I am not sure what to think. After looking at the headliner, and how it fits, and knowing the dealer broke my hood latch just setting up the horn to confirm locking, I am not sure I want them to try to replace it. I would like the lights working, but not alot of faith that they would do this very good.

In my cars I always turn off the interior lights. I just never saw the need for a light to come on when the door opens. I guess I got used to it coming from a Jeep and a convertible background -neither of which had dome lights.

All,

I have had two issues I am attempting to chase down and have seen many post about these issues on all the different forums.

I drive a 07 Sante Fe Limited with the Infinity 605 watt system plus the rear entertainment and the 3rd row seat.

My issues are
1. Front MAP lights on the 07 to date don't come on when you open the door. This is a real safety issue as my wife and daughter will not drive the vehicle at night
due to the almost non existence of light in the front seats when the vehicle is unlocked or the doors are opened. They can’t see if anybody is hiding in the front seat especially when the sun shade is closed. You get no external light to help. My dome light is about 2 inches behind the 2nd row seat into the cargo compartment. I believe this is because I have the sun roof and the DVD entertainment system. Frankly this is not acceptable and does pose a safety risk to the both of them. See pictures.

2. The infinity stereo has a hissing in the background that is very noticeable at volume levels below 10.

My dealer has been good but these two issues they say are not fixable at this point in time and referred me to the Consumer Affairs number.

During my conversation with Whitney today at HMA CA, the bottom line is we need to push our dealers as well as HMA Consumer affairs to fix these issues. Everyone who is having these problems must report them the dealers and to HMA Consumer affairs. It’s not good enough to share our stories in the forums. I have include in my case these different forum communications and issues but we must all open separate cases and complaints.

Volume of complaints will get both of these issues resolved. They told me once they get enough information and complaints and they are ready, the ones who have contacted and complained will be notified via a campaign letter.

PLEASE report the problems to your dealer and HMA CA.

Below are the instructions for HMA CA.

- First have your VIN number with you.
- Call HMA Consumer Affairs @ 800-633-5151
- @ first prompt say "Consumer Affairs"
- @ Second prompt say "representative"

You'll now get a human case manager. Inform them of the above mentioned issues and that it's not acceptable.

Together we can drive this change.

Thanks,
Bob

I just called HMA service to file my complaint about the dome light issue (I don't have the Infinity stereo - so that was all I had to complain about). I told the gal that I bought an early production model (Nov '06) Santa Fe that didn't have functioning front dome lights (when the door opens) and that I heard that the later run Santa Fe's had the problem fixed - therefore I wanted mine fixed. The gal then said something to the effect that that is just the way they are and that a fix wasn't in place - but they are aware of the problem. I then told her that I talked to my dealer who talked to his Hyundai Tech Rep that said they are working on a wiring harness fix, they just didn't have it finalized - she didn't know what to say. Her pat answer was that she didn't have an answer.

So that is three different stories:

1) Hyundai will replace your headliner to resolve the problem
2) They don't have a resolution
3) They are working to replace just the wiring harness to the lights

Whatever they do (or maybe don't do) - I filed a complaint to be another voice.

Thanks for the tip Bob.

Well ,I don't want to get anybody's hopes up but I just left the dealer and they are ordering the parts for the new front dome light fix. They will call me when they get the parts. As soon as I get it fixed, I'll inform everybody about the fix. Probably in about 2 weeks. I'm not going to rejoice until the fix is done. I will keep you posted. Gord

Don't give up, stay on them. Your voice is one of a growing bunch and the more we call and complain they cannot dismiss it. These things don't happen overnight.

Is the fix gonna require that you replace the whole headliner, or just run a new harness?
