Got my first flat tyre yesterday for ??? years.
Ok nothing strange in that you'll say as people get flats each and every day.
BUT if you have locking Hy wheel nuts check them now before YOU get a flat.
I couldn't get the locking nut off at the side of the road so took a chance and managed to drive to a local tyre repair lockup .
Well, the mechanic couldn't get the "key" to turn with hand held brace and resorted to using an air gun set VERY VERY high. The key kept splipping off the nut but eventually he got it off. Key insert is not in the best of health. I believe the technical term is f***ed.
I never knew he could speak every european language known!
When I take car in for service next week I'll be asking for new locking nuts under warranty!!
Bets on my chances of a new set are be taken.
SO CHECK YOURS NOW AND MAKE SURE YOU CAN GET THEM OFF BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

HI Guys, i am new to this Forum however i am after a few quick tips.
I have bought a 07 SR I30 about 6 months ago. I am used to building a rather different type of car and was just going to use this as a work car.. However.. i am starting to get over the lack of power for this engine.
I am currently dropping it down on King Springs and slapping a set of 20'' rims. I will be gettin larger diameter headers and stainless 2 1/2 inch exhaust and K&N flter.
however i am wonder if anone knows if there are an other mods that can be done ie remap/chip etc or if i should just shave the head and bring copression down etc?
Was thinking Turbo or Clutch type Charger (4agze style) however warranty people will hang me if i blow a piston

at least with shaved head they are not really gonna be able to tell it is running higher comp. (of course 20's wil be off if it goes to warranty)
any ideas or methods would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi all, i'm new to the forum and hope there is not a topic on this already.
I have ordered my i30 CRDi SX but its still 5wks away

I have been looking on the internet and magazines and it says that the i30CRDI 1.6 does 0-100km in 11.6 seconds.
Does anyone think that the time is a bit slow and has anyone tried and gotten a faster time
Look forward to posting a bit more

Hey, guys - first time poster here.
I've only been living in Perth a few months but have decided it's time i give myself a bit more freedom and get around to buying a car.
I haven't bought a brand new car before so this is all new territory for me. I would absolutely love to get an i30!!!
As i need an auto i would probably be looking at the SX model (cheapest) and wondered if anyone would recommend a good dealer with any advice on getting a great deal?
I'm just a few blocks away from Johnny Hughes on Shepperton Road and don't really know what other dealers out there have to offer.
Thanks for any tips and advice in advance

My i30, crdi 1.6, is due it's 12 month service soon and I've been quoted by Hy dealer circa £160.00, slightly higher than expected but informed this is because it requires fully synthetic oil.
Any others had a price for 1st or 10,000 mile service?

Following on from discuusions in the "3 months too long to wait" topic.....
I have just got off the phone from the dealership where I purchased my i30.
They told me that what they are telling all of their customers to do is to go in (say at the 1000km free service) and say that they need a second remote so that their partner/friend/whatever can pick the car up after you have left it somewhere without setting the alarm off.
Obviously he couldn't vouch for other dealers but they have had a load of remotes sent over and all they need to do (under warranty) is fill out a form and send it to Hyundai (head office I assume) and then they can program one of the remotes they have in stock to use with your car.
He actually said that mine is still the only one they have received with 2 remotes!
Hope this helps....

Hey guys,
Just asking for some tips...
How do I get the smallest amount of fuel to be eaten when driving I30? What is your experience? In what RPM - At what gear level? What speed?
I have petrol I30 (1.4) and so far my average combined (driving in town, mountanis and on highways too) consumption (after drivin 1500km only so far) is 6.8 - 6.9 litres per 100km.
What do you think? Can I get it lower? How? What do you recommend?
thanks,

Hi there,
I have had my I30 from new for around 9months now. It is yet to do 6k and I seems to be having some problems which the dealers cant fix!!!!.
1. There seems to be a flat spot on the engine when cruising at low speed. It seems to happen for a few seconfs then seeems fine.
2. Rear seatbelt audible warning. This sounds when I have too passengers sat in the back with their belts on. The dash display is telling me the person in the rear middle does not have their belt on. There is noone sat in this seat.
3. The ESP off light comes on randomaly even though I have not turned it off. Pushing the button seems to do nothing. Turning of theengine and removing the key is the only fix.
Has anyone experiences simular to these, if so did you get a fix??
I have had it into 2 different dealers now and both say their computers find no fault when they plug it in.
Regards
Dale

Hi guys,
I just got my new I30. Everything is nice, great so far. Top notch

I just didn't know one thing - I was surprised that the trip computer is not able to show Immediate Fuel Consumption. This is what I really wanted

Q1:
Anyone has an idea if it would be possible to "TURN ON" somehow? Can guys at Hyundai service turn it on? Using some of Software Configuration Tools or so?
Please let us know your ideas and experience.
Q2:
Also one more thing - I am checking the average consumption a bit - it is currently about 7.8l (only driven 270km so far) in town conditions. Wanted to ask... Is it accurate? How can I go lower? I read that 6.5 or 7 is possible to achive too. You have any ideas how to achieve that? Drive on low revolutions (rpm) ?
Thanks,
 |

I have probably one of the first released i30 SR manaul petrol cars, purchased in Australia December 2007.
Since new we have had a problem with it stalling on rollout, you have to rev the engine to stop it from stalling.
When we told the dealer where we purchased the car about it months later, he said that there is a software update to fix the problem and to get the new software at our next service. At our next service interstate the Hyundai service center new nothing of the update.
Does anyone know of a software update for the i30 manual?

Guys, i got a new question for ya...
With new I30 I ordered - purchased Safety Matrices (to prevent stealing of Al - discs) for Wheel Discs. I realised that on each wheel - on my Aluminium Wheel Discs there are only 4 matrices, but there are 5 spots for the matrices to be put.
I'd like to ask you - Does it have to be like that? Is it OK? Or should I have 5 matrices there?
Anyone has the same stuff on wheels (4 matrices put and 1 "looks-like-free" place)?
Attaching image of my wheels from the side - to show you what I am talking about - The "free" spot is on top left corner...Check it out and please let me know...
thanks,

Since Im new to owning a diesel vehicle, I got into a discussion with a friend of mine who has been driving trucks for many years, yes the truckies are going to be striking for a couple of weeks and I dont blame them at all, but thats another thread perhaps.
Time to stock up on groceries is my advice.
NEVER let your car run low on diesel, not only does it overheat the fuel system, the whole system will have to be purged of air and considering these cars are still relatively new, and thus the support is also new, it can be very costly and time consuming to get it done.
This is just a word of warning for those that think you can carry a jerry can of diesel and pour it in after running out of diesel and restart, do so at your own risk.

Friday saw us perform final tuning and then testing of the i30CRDi PCM upgrade. We have a couple of these cars now and have been performing testing in the pair of them to speed up the R&D process. As of today we are able to announce the i30 CRDi PCM upgrade available to the general public for $995
Now heres, what you get for the money -

Power gains are strong right across the board, which result in enough instant urge to get the front wheels spinning in second gear (if you so desire) and stop that diesel feeling of the engine 'laying over' as it revs. This little 1600 will spin to nearly 5000rpm if you so desire

Bringing the boost on earlier with more aggressive VGT (Variable Nozzle Turbo) control gives a nice sharp ramp into torque. Overall boost pressure has been raised to 22psi up from the factory 19psi

A driving loop consisting of a city cycle that saw the CRDi driven from Port Adelaide across to Kensington (at 1pm - 2pm so it was busy) and then back down through Morphett Vale, and along back the coast through the suburbs saw astounding average fuel consumption of 4.5l/100km
Performance Testing on the Drift Box has shown a best 0-400m time of 15.76 seconds, and 0-100km/h sprint of 8.22 seconds. This is lineball with a new SV6 in straight line acceleration, and a massive 1.4 seconds faster to 100km/h than the i30 was with the original tune in place. Its all good
To recap then, for i30 CRDi owners -
We offer the PCM upgrade (mail order) featured here for $995
We also have a rear muffler 'delete' pipe that sounds great for $100 (we didnt use this in our performance testing, however it does sound great)
Add $30 for overnight airfreight, and its a simple upgrade
The PCM is located on the side of the airbox and is held in position by four 10mm bolts -

Greetings all.
I have an I30 SLX petrol manual (only had it a couple of weeks).
In every brochure or online review I have seen on the I30, the trip computer seems to be an easy-to-read white or light blue readout on a darker blue background.
On mine however, the writing is a darkish blue on a black background. Needless to say, it's really hard to read, especially when the sun is bright. At night it's not to bad if you adjust the dash illumination to the right level.
Do any of you have a similar issue? Is mine faulty, or is it just the way Aussie SLX petrol models are made?
Cheers

We have clocked around 36,000 km's on our SR i30, we had to get new tyres as the fronts were getting down and one of the left hand rear tyre wire belting let go and made it very unsafe, these were Hankook 225/45/ 17 tyres.
We went to replace them wiyh Maxxis tyres and thats where the problem was noticed, none of the wheels were true, they all had a degree of buckling in them, one was so bad it was dangerous, which was also the wheel which we had the tyre problem. These are the standard SR i30 Hyundai 17"x7" mag wheels with the chrome inserts.
So now I have got some ROH Mantis wheels coming in the next couple of days, these are $270 each, the genuine Hyundai mags are over $700 each, not that I would get them!!
Have we had anyother problems? well Yes, but that will be another post!

Maybe this Q was already been answered somewhere but I couldn't find the answer

Just want to know if I can use the standard iPod USB cable to connect my IPOD 5th gen (IPOD video) to the USB connector and to listen through it to the music. I'm not intrested in the extended features you can get while using the Hyundai cable since I usally just put the IPOD on shffule and listen to it.
Did someone tried it out ? if so can you please indicate how was it ?
Thanks,

Hi all, up early here, i'm going to drive the i30 to work, as i have to go to other side of Sydney to a friends after work to pick up parts, for a friend thats coming up from Melbourne Friday.
so as i'll use one of the motorways i can test cruise control but traffic will be heavy, but moves at about 80kph too 100kph just have to watch sometimes as slows down fast but don't ask me why? but as i'm used to CC no problem, just still getting used to the new car. i'll see my mad mate the Italian upholsterer while i'm out there see if he can put quality carpet in and quality seat covers as i like his high quality craftsmanship and he keeps the best in stock does good work. might just get him to make them like mats in the front.
anyway i'll let you know how it all goes with cruise control.
by the way had my GPS in the car and the speedo it fast, the trip or odometer is fast too, so a trip computer could not be accurate till that is sorted out so what you see as your average fuel useage be it petrol or diesel will in fact be showing less than you are actually useing. but this is normal you see most cars have fast speedo's and the odometer goes fast , but with my falcon it takes hundreds of miles to see the odometer go a few k's faster than the GPS shows, with this i30 SX it shows in only 15k so it's bad! will check tyre diamiters and distance in a roll from the different tyre sizes they come with but Hyundai will have to fix this, as service intervals come up too fast!!

The throttle on my i30 diesel auto stopped working at a busy intersection yesterday (Friday). Managed to creep the car to the edge of the road. A hairy experience in heavy traffic and rain.
Called the RAC who inspected and called a tow truck. Vehicle taken to a nearby Hyundai dealer. They reported all OK mid Saturday morning. Said they had found a "lose wire" bid me fare well with "I hope it keeps going".
Me too ...
Given two returns for cruise not working due to faulty electrical, now this, I am becoming suspicions of wiring in general. Anybody else with similar problems??

I had a cruise control fitted by my dealer pre-delivery. It has just broken down for the second time in 3,000kms. Indicator light goes out, fuse is intact.
On both occasions it has quit at the automatic entry gate to a public car park in Perth CBD. Two different car parks.
I don't suffer coincidences like that easily. I think there is spurious radiation being generated at the gates which is blasting the CC. Has any one else had similar problems and if so has a solution been discovered?

Hi All,
Since the launch of the i30 I have seen many "performance mods" (I use that term loosely) on Ebay for diesel vehicles, my understanding is these mods boost the fuel pressure at the rail and that is pretty much it...
Some of these so called performance modules cost in the hundreds (if not over a thousand) of dollars.
I am not interested in those, what I am after is a full remap of the ECU via the OBD port to:
a. Remap the fuel maps
b. raise the turbo boost level. etc...
Is anyone aware of, if this remap exists and/or is anyone working on one ?
I understand the i30 ECU is a Bosh model that has been worked/modified previously ?

Checking my engine oil after 4880 miles, engine cold and overnight, I see that it has just moved to below Max.
Does anyone have any stats on oil useage for 1.6 diesels?
Reading the Handbook it mentions engines with the Particulate filter.
Do UK models have this as this will effect the oil to use?

Hi, this is my first post here lol.
My Husband and I were looking at the i30 online last night and were very interested in it. I was wondering if you could answer some questions for me about the car.
Firstly, how many anchor points does the car have? We will be needing 2.
Will there be enough space for 2 car seats and a booster seat across the back seat?
Now for the silly question lol. How many cup holders does it have and were are they located?.
Thank you in advance for your help

.
Oh, I forgot to mention, we have had 3 hyundai's before and love the cars. We have had 2 new excels and we are now currently driving around in a 2003 Getz.

Hi Everyone,
Have updated the Flyer I prepared earlier to reflect our new URL etc...
So (for new members..) the idea is to print a handful to have in your car for when you spot an i30 in a car park or the like. Just slip one under the wipers and hopefully "pull" a few new members. Imagine we might not do better than say 1 in 10 as not everybody is a car fanatic.
P.S. Remember most inkjet printers printing is not waterproof unless you use special papers so shambles and eye30 have probably only got a window of 10 days a year they can use them...
Rgds,
Dazz

For a while now, I've heard a sort of clicking/switching sound coming from just behind the steering column or somewhere around there.
It almost sounds like a thermostat switching on/off or the sound that usually accompanies a warning light coming on.
Just wondering if anyone else has heard anything similar and maybe knows what it is?

It's interesting that in europe it was given only 4 stars.

Hi guys,
Most of our entries in this forum seem to be pretty positive.
Thats stands to reason as we here for the most part own and love our i30"s.
I just thought it would be interesting to list some of the thing we love about our i30 but also some of the little quirks that bug us as well. Come on there must be something.
I will get us started. I love the overall styling of the vehicle. I love the fuel economy of the manual deisel. I love the leather wrap sports style steering wheel but hate that it doesnt have cruise controls mounted.
What I dont like is a short list. I find the blue digital odometer hard to read on a bright day or when wearing sunnies. While I said I like the style, I am not big on the rear tail lights, not sure they do justice to the rest of the car.Thats about it.
If thats all i can find to complain about, I must be on a winner

Taken from Go-Auto 28/5/08
By MARTON PETTENDY
THE increasing disparity between petrol and
diesel pump prices due to soaring demand for
diesel fuel in Asia has dramatically increased
the length of time it takes to recoup the extra
cost of purchasing diesel cars, a GoAuto
investigation has revealed.
The retail price of diesel in Sydney last week
reached $1.80 per litre – up to 35 cents more
than unleaded petrol at the same sites – and
experts predict the recent earthquake in China
could further increase the demand for diesel
there and therefore its retail price here.
The soaring cost of diesel, which has on
average increased more than 17 per cent so
far this year – far outstripping petrol but still
well below the international benchmark diesel
price rise of 40 per cent in Australian dollars in
2008 – has also attracted the attention of petrol
commissioner Pat Walker.
Last year, sales of petrol passenger cars to
business purchasers rose by more than 88 per
cent and sales to private buyers increased by
almost 63 per cent. Sales of diesel passenger
cars to private buyers have risen more than 50
per cent so far this year while private petrol car
sales have dropped by fi ve per cent.
In February, BMW predicted that diesel
models could comprise up to 80 per cent of its
sales within fi ve years and SsangYong has this
year repositioned its brand to offer an all-diesel
range. Data provided exclusively to GoAuto by
JATO Dynamics reveals that many European
brands are more reliant on diesel car sales than
ever. Peugeot increased its mix of diesel vehicle
sales from about 11 per cent in 2003 to more
than 52 per cent last year, while Volkswagen
went from just over a one per cent share of diesel
sales in 2003 to 46.5 per cent in 2007. Others,
including Alfa Romeo, Saab, Dodge, Chrysler
and Renault, have increased their diesel sales
mix from zero in 2003 to more than 30, 27, 16,
13 and 13 per cent respectively.
Diesel vehicles remain a tiny proportion of
overall new passenger car sales in Australia,
but that could soon change with news last week
that Holden has committed to producing a diesel
Commodore within two years, joining Ford which
last month confi rmed to GoAuto that it plans to
offer diesel versions of both its homegrown
Territory and Falcon models from 2010.
This time 12 months ago the wholesale
diesel price was $121.83 and unleaded petrol
cost $127.73 wholesale, making diesel roughly
six cents cheaper than petrol a year ago.
Based on the current wholesale price
disparity between petrol and diesel of 23 cents
per litre and an average annual mileage of
20,000km, it will take BMW 320d drivers more
than eight years to pay off their car’s $3100
higher purchase price over the equivalent 320i,
while the Hyundai i30 diesel’s $3500 price
premium over its petrol sibling will take more
than 11 years to recoup.
Calculated on a $4000 price premium over
the equivalent petrol version and an ADR81/01
average fuel consumption estimate of 8.5 litres
per 100km (compared with 10.8L/100km for the
petrol), it will take buyers of the forthcoming
Commodore diesel more than 12 years to pay
off their diesel investment. Twelve years!
Before the rapid diesel price hikes that
began about a year ago, Ford predicted a diesel
version of its Falcon would take between three
and fi ve years to offset its extra cost. Using the
same formula, a Falcon diesel could take an
extra 17 years to pay for itself on current diesel
prices. Let us repeat: 17 years.
The figures are much worse when calculated
on the average retail price differential between
petrol and diesel of about 30 cents nationally, let
alone the 35-cent disparity seen at some outlets
in Sydney last week. In those cases, the diesel
purchase price premium pay-back period is
beyond 30 years for the oil-burning Commodore
and more than 40 years for the Falcon.
The RACV’s government relations manager
David Cumming told GoAuto this week that
the widening gap between petrol and diesel
prices was a direct result of booming demand
for diesel in Asia, and the fact that Australian
crude oil prices were linked to the Tapas crude
oil price in Singapore.
“For 25 years the two (petrol and diesel) were
on (price) parity or diesel was slightly below it
and demand for diesel in Asia is the only reason
we pay a premium now,” he said.
“The disparity has come about purely
because diesel operates on the same market
price in Singapore – the defi ned product price.
Asia runs on diesel and China and India’s
demand for diesel is immense. Unleaded is
almost a by-product in Singapore.”
He said the price premium for diesel was
expected by some quarters to continue to climb.
“I’m led to believe there’s a supply and
demand imbalance in Asia for diesel which
leads to a premium being paid in Australia.
There’s a view that in the wake of the
earthquake they may even consume more
diesel, because the only way they’re going to
be able to get electricity into those devastated
areas is with diesel engines,” he said.
Mr Cumming said the diesel price hike,
which has also been exacerbated by stockpiling
by major Chinese refi ners ahead of the Olympic
Games, was bad news for both current owners
of diesel vehicles and customers of new and
upcoming diesel passenger models, many of
which have or will become available because
of increased demand and improved Australian
diesel fuel quality standards.
“And of course the timing couldn’t be
worse – just when all these new diesel-engined
passenger cars are starting to come to Australia.
“People can communicate with us via our
website and I had more than 20 complaints last
week from diesel people. Nearly all of them
are saying they’re considering selling their
car, but I don’t know if their car is going to be
worth very much,” he said.
Mr Cumming said that last week’s $139 price
high for Tapas crude oil in Singapore, which
has since reduced to $127, would not fl ow
through to pump prices for a month or so, but
he was reluctant to join in recent predictions of
$2.00-per-litre petrol by the end of this year.
“I’ve never put my head out that far.
I’m prepared to do it on a fortnightly-byfortnightly
basis. Anybody that’s prepared to
go out there and say $2.00 by the end of the
year is a very game man. These prices are not
about supply and demand. This is purely what
the speculators have got out of the US dollar. It
appears to be a bit of a game now, to see how
far they can push it,” he said.
“Where are we going with diesel? No doubt
$1.90 in the foreseeable future is possible.”
Mr Cumming said he had no problem with
retail fuel prices, with the Melbourne fuel
market taking an average profi t margin of just
four cents per litre at the moment, and reiterated
the fact that only a very small percentage of
diesel is sold to private motorists.
“That’s why there is no competition over
the board price for diesel, because all the big
boys either buy it bulk on contract or long-term
tender. In many cases they probably would
have hedged their costs anyway – they might
have a fi xed-term contract for 12 months and
may well be buying at last year’s price right
now.”
But he again took aim at federal government
inaction on what the RACV has long described
as a tax on a tax: the 10 per cent GST surcharge
on top of the 38.1 CPL federal government
(petrol and diesel) fuel excise. Once again the
latter applies only to private motorists, with
trucks over 4.2 tonnes paying only 19.6 cents
a litre excise plus GST, and farmers, miners,
railways, forestry workers and the like all
paying no excise or gaining a tax rebate.

How can you tell when your car was built?
I have a sticky "plate" by the door latch, passenger side with letters and numbers on.
Is this the "build" plate?
If not where is it?
If so how can I interpret the info and find out when my i30 as built.

On my car it came with black underbody protective seal but where the exhaust runs by the rear wheel there is none, just the body paint.
The dealer check other cars they had on display and they were the same.
Is this the same on all I30's?

...the VW Golf TDI!
Drive had this to say about the i30 CRDi in summary:
The engine is world-class, the build quality good, the space efficiency of the design impressive and the pricing - as always - unbeatable. But the dynamics are flawed. A set of grippier tyres is needed, as is the Protectz safety pack. You will feel better about having your nearest and dearest in this car if you spend the extra dollars.Original article.

I've posted in other postings that I achieved some 69 MPG
I've just remembered that the on board computer was showing 57 mpg.
This is a discrepency of 12 MPG!!!!!!!!
Also, the distance to empty seem odd and based on my assumed averages it would appear that I'll be empty but will have just under half a tank!!!!!!
How accurate are these and should you rely on them?
What are your views?

On a few occasions over the last few weeks the radio (on FM) has stopped pumping out sound for a mega second. I put this down to cut in signal from the radio station.
But today when playing a CD the music stopped mid track for a few seconds.
CD has been played before and no problem.
Has anyone else had this?
