For the past few weeks I have been trialling a tuning box manufactured by a German company ASA Autotechnik Saretz and I have compiled the attached report giving details of my findings. Should you want more info from me contact via a personal email and I will try to answer those questions posed.
A really special price to forum members has been negotiated with ASA Autotechnik Saretz who can offer a Tuning box, plus appropriate connecting cable complete and delivered to your door for an all-inclusive Special price of € 99 plus shipping costs of €10 to the UK. (A total of €109)
Members in other Countries should check shipping costs prior to purchasing but I have been advised that they will be as reasonable as is possible)
Please Note: -
This is a considerable saving on the regular ASA Autotechnik Saretz Internet price of €148 plus postage.
This is the best available offer on the Internet. Contact them by Email to order at
shop@autotechnik-saretz.de ENGLISH is spoken and understood.
When ordering please quote reference Itza/ASA ECO CR/Special Offer
If you have another vehicle that has any other type of diesel engine, ASA Autotechnik Saretz possibly manufacture a tuning device for that as well so contact them to see what they can offer you.

Hi guys n girls
Im currently in the market for a car -the first car that i've ever purchased for myself as well! I get all the features and what not of the i30 but take away all the features of the car and why did you buy it?
Was there something special about it or did you really just go on the "yeah that has all the features" - i guess im talking about before you test drive it and what not. I've been reading over this forum and others and im impressed as i was actually thinking the corolla and hadn't even thought of the i30 as i always thought of them as cheaply made but i guess from reports they are not?
Anyway im just looking for a more emotional connection i guess you know rather than just specs and features.

Hi all,
Just purchased an i30 in Australia and was looking forward to instant iPod compatibility.
Sadly here in Australia (as opposed to Europe/UK) we don't get the "Hyundai iPod full control cable' as standard. It commands $110 AUD as an option. But we do get a 512MB i30 labelled USB stick..... ? hmmmmmm
Can any current i30 owner post a picture of the 'exclusive' cable connections for the iPod or describe the same?
The manual warns one away from using Apple's original usb cable. Is this true?

2. Is there any way to pause the iPod, this woudl enable playing other audio from my iPhone (like Pandora, or other streaming audio Apps)

Hey guys
I just got a 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring (at least that's what they call it in the USA- I really wish it had a more unique name) Anyways... I really love the car, but I want some tuning options. I was thinking of getting a short ram intake, but with the creative intake that Hyundai put on this car I doubt I'd get much out of it- and cold air is out of the question for me as I'd always be scared of hydro-locking.
I was thinking of some good exhaust ideas (catback and muffler)
Can anyone suggest a good site to order performance parts that would work on my 2.0 Elantra Touring
How does Hyundai's warranty view tuning on their cars?

Hi All
Just wondering if the iphone is compatible with the cable supplied by Hyundai? As the pin configuration is different on the iphone to the ipod there may be differences. I would like to know the following:
Does the iphone charge whilst plugged in?
Does the warning come up about a non-compatible device being plugged in?
Thanks

I just recently bought a 2010 Elantra Touring and noticed the passenger's head restraint sits much further forward than the driver's to the point where it is uncomfortable to sit in the passenger seat with it installed. When I removed the headrests to have a look, they are identical except the passenger headrest's metal bars are coming from the back of the underside of the headrest while the driver's metal bars come from the middle (causing the passenger headrest to be futher forward). Are the two headrests supposed to be the same and I have a defective one? Or is there a reason they are different?

Hi all. I'm new to the forum, and am hoping that someone else may have the same problem and possibly knows what is causing it.
I've got a 2010 Elantra Touring Sport, and when I double click the lock button on the key FOB the horn sounds. Every now and then, it doesn't beep nearly as loud as it should (it still makes noise, but you have to be standing right next to it to hear it). My local dealer says that they couldn't find any problem (they didn't actually check, they just kept pressing the button to see if they could replicate the problem).
It doesn't seem to be a real big issue, but I am concerned that if it's the actual horn as opposed to a problem with the key FOB, then my horn may not work when I actually need it to.
Thanks
Ross

I have a new i30 and use my ipod regularly (connected to the USB port).
the music plays great but there is one MAJOR issue. The stereo system does not recognise the Ipod's taxonomy. Instead of showing menus by artists, genres, or albums, it groups all the music in my Ipod in folders (randomly as far as I can tell) and assign a four letter code to teach song. Songs within a given folder are organised in alphabetical order. the songs are of any band, genre or album.
We have found this to be very annoying as we can't choose what song we want to play. Even more annoying is that connecting the ipod to the USB port blocks the control pannel on the Ipod so that I have no choice but to use the I30s stereo to choose songs.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there a solution, should I ask my Hyundai dealer for help (given that the stereo is the original from the factory).
Many thanks!

Hi,
What is the difference in spec between these 2 models. I've seen a garage in Darlington offering a 2010 model for £600 less than the current list price. What would I be getting if I bought the brand new model as opposed to the 2010 spec. Comparing like for like that is. My interest is Comfort Diesel
Thanks

Hi, I'm a newbie to the forum and Hyundai cars. I,ve bought a new steel grey i30 CW wagon. I carry around a large, heavy musical instrument. Problem is, dragging it out of the cargo bay is going to put a scratch one careless day on the rear bumper. Has anyone seen the factory accessory "Fabric Rear Bumper Protector"? "FABRIC"??? What's confusing is that it's listed as an "interior" accessory. The last one on the Nissan X Trail was an aluminium job. Any knowledge on an aftermarket bumper protector that works?? Thanks.

Firstly, I am a newcomer to this forum!!
I am investigating the possibility of replacing the highbeam lamps on my i30 with xenon HID ones. But I do not know enough about modern car electronics. Specifically, does the i30 have CANBUS? What considerations need to be made regarding the ballasts that are needed and the cars electrical/electronic system?
Has anybody had any experiences that they could share?
The need for better lighting arose from an incident that I had with a 'roo.
The alternative to upgrading the high beams is to install driving lights but that would involve a heap of extra trouble including some sort of bar on which to mount them.
Any suggestions?

Hi Guys,
Wondering if anyone else has had problems with the i30 radio?
I bought a new car almost 3 weeks ago, and after 3 or days trips, the radio and display screen just died.
I took it to the dealer who said it was faulty and needed to be replaced.
First the told me a week, I rang today to see if it was in and now it's 3 weeks, and they claim they are unable to follow up and find out the status of where the radio is, which seems a bit weird as I would have thought they'd have some type of tracking system to tell them where orders are??
Are the i30 radios reliable, did I just get a dud or do they often cark it? I had no phone car kit or blue tooth installed, just the standard ipod cable that I was using.
Secondly, if anyone else has had a replacement radio, how long do they take (i'm in australia)?
As you can imagine, I'm pretty annoyed as since buying the vehicle I've been without the radio/display longer than I've had it!

Now it's summer and I was able to try the air con for a full 20 mile journey. Here is the surprise: on 1.4 i30 petrol, keeping air conditioning switched on (not climate control btw) seems not to affect the power delivery or the fuel consumption at all! Perhaps makes a 0.2 mpg difference but on fuel consumption meter, the diff is barely registered.
It seems a big and pleasant contrast to my last car a 2.0 litre petrol where you could really feel the power loss on switching on the air con.
Anyone else observed this?

Hi all, I'm having issues with the front wipers on my 2009 i30 slx crdi.
Several times now in heavy-ish rain I've had to pull over as I couldn't see. Other drivers continued driving so it wasn't that the rain was that full on.
The wipers clear the screen fine on each pass, they just don't seem to move fast enough to keep up with the rain and maintain visibility.
I contacted the useful folk at Hyundai & asked if they'd had any issues/other complaints (no) and asked what speed the wipers should move at on maximum (illuminating reply was:
"Further to your recent enquiry, I would like to advise that the wiper blades will move at the maximum speed when switched on that setting. "
When I replied asking:
"So that I can check that my wipers are in fact moving at the maximum speed when switched to the maximum setting, could you please tell me how fast that is, eg how many passes across the windscreen? " the reply was go see your dealer.
Bah. Not impressed.
So if any of you wonderful people in i30 world feel like turning your wipers to maximum and counting perhaps how many full passes (there & back=1) in say 15 seconds and posting for me that would be a brilliant help.
Also if anyone has had similar issues and/or has suggestions for a fix, that would be great too (preferably not any that involve me choosing between the red wire and the blue one.)
Cheers
Anni

I have the i30 crdi estate 1.6 115ps with 16000 miles on the clock now.
The vehicle has been serviced as per hyundais recommendation, and the oil is black but level is ok.
Recently I have noticed that when i start up the engine can appear to faulter or miss, whilst this occurs the exahust kicks out quite a bit of smoke, eventually the faultering stops and so does the smoke, on occasion i have to re start the engine to stop it. this has occured first thing in the morning, and also after standing for five hours after a 100mile motorway trip. Im not sure if its related but the motor can faulter whilst cruising on the motorway and accelarating gently, no issues if i put my foot down.Any ideas please.
also TA on the radio does not work, and the noise on tight right bends i mentioned in an earlier post is still present but no worse.
apart from these issues this is the best car I have ever owned, one year down the line.

I have a brand new i30 diesel auto that has begun misbehaving on first driving after being standing overnight.
At somewhere around 1250/1500 revs it begins to hesitate as though not quite sure what to do. There is also a swishing/hissing sound and that combined with the hesitation , as though travelling over a series sof regular low undulations, is irritating. It goes away on accelleration and seems to behave proerly thereafter.
The dealer says he has never herd of such a thing!! I think it will not do it when under accelleration or power, only when slow and low revs. Any ideas, please. Peter Grey

Hello...and help, advice needed ! I don't even know if I'm in the right forum/topic group......!
I'm totally new to my i30, I'm thinking of getting a towbar fitted to pull a small trailer just for camping trips. Problem is my local hyundai dealer seems to be quoting expensive parts top buy and fit them, and I'm not brilliant at fitting things mechanical myself....so I was wondering whether I should try to get another towbar company to do it...but what type of tow hook should I get? Is it best to stick with the actual hyundai recommended one or can i get a good other option?

Good afternoon all,
Just a newbie to the forum, I think I've searched in all of the right places but I cant seem to find the info' I'm after!
I have just ordered a new SLX CRDi hatch and I'm guessing (as with all other new cars that I have had recently) that the headlights won't really be up to par for lots of highway & back roads night driving. On my last car (Xtrail) it was easy enough to fit a nudge bar and some decent driving lights (Light Force) but I seem to be having trouble finding anything that will suit/fit the i30 as yet. Do any of the learned members of this forum have any ideas at all in this area?
Look forward to your posts!

Just would like to compare my i30 with others...
There's a 1 inch unswept vertical gap at the right hand edge (see from driver position) if my front windscreen (UK version).
Into this gets swept all the dirty water so it's a front blind spot when combined with the pillar width. And a bit annoying.
On my other & previous cars, I'd adjusted out such gaps (by removing wiper arm and replacing, one or 2 sprocket steps anti clockwise).
My question is: What typical gap do you other i30 owners have on the RHS? (or is it LHS for LHD). And has anyone successfully adjusted this without the risk of fouling the windscreen edge seal?

Hello Everyone,
(First and foremost, if you wanted the Elantra Touring in the Elantra section i apologize, I know the Elantra Touring US is an i30 CW everywhere else, so i figured I would start here)
I was driving my Elantra touring on the highway yesterday, when all of a sudden the Battery indicator light, and the electronic power steering system [EPS] light came on, and i wasn't able to accelerate, however I was able to brake so i pulled off with my remaining momentum. I let the car sit and reset it, it ran fine. I took it to Hyundai to get it checked out today, they said there was nothing wrong with it. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem before, or if it was some computer glitch in my system that caused the car to do that.
The car is 09 Elantra Touring with just under 5k miles. Please let me know if any other information is required, my car is staying at Hyundai til Tuesday when I'm able to get a ride to pick it up.
Thank You for your help

I got the dealer to provide i30 mats when I bought my car. They look good and the driver's mat has the i30 logo. Although I have only done 8500 miles in 8 months, holes are appearing in the driver's mat where my heels come into contact with the mat. Have other drivers had the same experience?
Has anyone any suggestions as to any material which could be attached underneath the mat to enable me to keep using the driver's mat? or will I need to replace it?

Good Day All
I have recently purchased a new i30 and am very pleased with the car. However the other day (Wednesday) I got in the passengers side and noticed a crack in the windscreen (right hand side) approx 30cm long.
Upon further investigations it appears to have started from underneath the rubber trim, I cannot see any point of impact, the crack does extend right to the edge of the glass.
Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences of this and what reaction they had from Hyundai.
At the moment Hyundai (without having seen it) are saying it is a heat issue!! This seems a little convienent and have referred me to the insurance company.
Any advice is welcome.
Happy driving

Hello all.
First, let me introduce myself. I'm Jim, I live in the Netherlands, and I have recently bought a 2007 model 1.4 petrol i30.
I love the car, but I am used to a little more power.
I would love some suggestions for the best bang I can get for my buck. Perhaps a turbo kit or exhaust system?
I read a post somewhere suggesting a nitrous kit might be the best way of adding a lot of power, but I worry about the strain that might put on the engine. Also, I would prefer a mod I might have a chance of fitting myself, and I have heard that nitrous is best done by a pro.
Has anyone out there had experience of successfully power modding the 1.4?
TIA.

Hi. I am about to buy an i30 Comfort here in UK, (in preference to the very similar Kia Cee'd).
In UK spec cars the seat height adjustment (and also lumbar support) is fitted only to the driver seat. However I would like to have the seat height adjuster also fitted to the passenger seat, and the dealers will not entertain any special order (say they cannot).
Is it possible (for me ideally) to retrofit a height adjustable left hand seat subframe (ie passenger seat) without too much messing about?
Is the seat that is fitted to a fixed height subframe the same as the seat fitted to an adjustable height frame?
Obviously these frames will be made for LHD cars, and so must be obtainable by some order process, and may even be the same as those supplied in UK for Kia Cee'd's that come armed with both height adjustment and lumber support on both front seats.
Next question ..... anyone know if the lumbar support can then be retrofitted to passenger seat?
Thanks for any help - meanwhile looking forward to new car.

I've now done 800 miles in my new i30. I like everything about the car EXCEPT the noise which intrudes into the cabin, especially on the motorway. There's a lot of tyre roar from the fitted Hankooks, which is amplified by what sounds like a lot of wind noise as well. Is it just my car, or does anyone else think their i30 is noisy? Any replies would be greatly appreciated (even if you think yours is quiet!). Thanks, scolas1

I've just taken delivery of my i30 fitted with at my request, cruise control. Two questions really:
How come a Hyundai engineer in Korea can fit cruise control and connect it up to the dashboard so you can see the graphics as described in the hand book but a Hyundai engineer in UK can fit the same item and I end up with a very small and dim green light to indicate on/off
and
now that I have the small green light version are there any instructions anywhere? The dealer certainly doesn't have any.
Any help appreciated
Regards

A minor issue but let's see if others have had it:
- Newish i30, the seatbelt height adjuster slider mechanism makes clicking noises when the driver moves/car goes over bumps. Not very loud but only 3" from driver's ear it IS annoying in an otherwise nice quiet car! I think that putting a finger on the slider cover stops the noise and the noise can be replicated by pushing/releasing that cover. Found that the passenger side equivalent height adjustment slider is tighter and does not click as a result - but maybe because that belt is not used much.
So the question is, anyone else had this and is the cure a simple one?

Hi,
I've just picked up my new I30 2.0 CRDi Premium and I have a button which I have no idea what it does - neither did the dealer. I looked in the manual and it's not there either!
It's on the panel by the drivers door where the ESP button is - it's a symbol of a front windscreen with what looks like a heartbeat going through it (best way I can describe it I'm afraid).
Does anyone have any idea what this does??
