Okay I am on week 7 of owning my new car and I have a noise..
It's normally after the cars warmed up, and when the car is idle, waiting at a light.. So basically the noise stops when i hit the gas to go.. The car's check engine light isn't on, and the car isnt running rough at all.. It's just the noise! Anyways, it is like a chattering cricket and i can only hear it when my radio isn't on so the sound is barely noticable.
I'm told just tell the dealership when i go in for an oil change.. I know I will tell them for sure.. but should i do it tomorrow, since i have it off, or wait until I change the oil.. Does anyone know what it could be? I think it has to do with a chain/belt myself, but i cant be sure in newer cars

My recently sold 2000 Gs accent is running rough the new owner acclerated the car on the freeway to a speed of 100km/h and all of a sudden the car has begin to shudder, as though it wants to fail, but it can't.
I have :
1. Replace the fuel tank with new fuel, and an injector cleaner.
2: replaced all spark plugs with new- what an easy job !
3: disconnected the battery supply over night and drained all power from the Engine management system as they can play up.
4: check for moisture build up in fuel tank.
All of the above have been performed, not sure what is going on, the car was well ooked after in my hands, it has only changed hands for four days.
Tested the battery with ign off 14.43volts engine on 14.73-14.65, aircon on 14.55-14.78, tested volted boot 12volt light 14.48- 14.67 fluctuations, is it the battery !!!!
It sounds like a tractor and I have been told it isn't accelerating as much, also when you accelerated whilst the car is stationary the bom bom bom sounds and roughness are minimal. Please help !!!! The battery indicator says charge, but it doesn't seem to be charging is this the issue, if so it is still under warranty!!!

Here's a pic of a turbo install on a Kia Rio5 which has the same engine and chassis as our Hyundai accent.
This setup was commissioned by Kia to show what is possible with the aftermarket. I assume this kit was designed by
Alpine Developments

So like I said a few days ago guys I did manage to get ahold of Alpine regarding a turbo kit for our cars. The told me that they're actually starting development of that kit in the very near future and to keep in touch with them regarding this kit.
So sometime this next year most likely we can actually see a turbo kit for our cars. Keep your pocket books ready and your ears open and you can finally make these little hatches something to contend with.

Well. I am selling my toyota celica. (tomorrow actually). and the other day I was at the hyundai deallership looking around, and the elantra 07' is what I was looking at, but once the sales lady invited me inside, I saw the most amazing car on the lot. a Tango Red Accent 07' Hatchback. and I completely fell in love with it.
its 5spd with the alloy wheels, and cd player upgrade, and sunroof.
now Im supposed to be finalizing the sell on the 2nd of april. they are simply holding the car for me as of now, because my uncle who will be getting the loan for me, doesnt knwo what to expect of this car.
So I was wondering. how does it run, can I rely on this car everyday?
is it peppy enough to get out on the highway an keep up in the fast lane?
How many miles can I expect out of this car?
I need it to last atleast until my loan is paid off. and hopefully long after.
Well I hope I get the info Im wanting to hear so my uncle will approve, and I can go pick up my baby!

Well it's been quite a few months now, and Hyundai UK continue to offer just one model of the new Accent - the
Accent Atlantic available in THREE colours, and only in hatchback form (
Click here to see what I'm talking about). It's weird though... Nothing's been mentioned as far as what the plans are for the Accent, and I've yet to see one in real life - I've seen NONE! I made a promise to myself that I'd buy an Accent SR when (IF) they brought them out over here, but that is sooo not going to happen!
It's a shame

I experienced a spooky thing a couple days ago..... and remember, my Accent is brand new (about 900 miles on it). I found myself in one of those situations where it was better to punch the gas {to avoid an idiot driver} than to hit the brakes. {you know... the type of situation that a lame driver would hit the brakes for anyway, making a bad situation worse}.
So, my tranny drops down to a "way" lower gear, and completely revs out ! Geez, I hate to do that to a brand new, not even completely broke in motor :-( In somewhat of a panic, I instantly back off on the throttle. So the scary thing was, for about 1 to 2 seconds, it felt like the tranny had jumped completely out of gear ! But in retrospect, I think what happend, was that the tranny had shifted to where it thought I wanted it to be..... but then, when I immediatly let back off, of the throttle, I confused it.
Finally, after completly letting off the throttle for a second, I gave it some gas, and it took off normally, in the apropriate gear.
Also in retrospect, I remember having this happen a couple in my automatic Geo Metro as well. When I told my mechanic about this, he said he has even had this happen in his Toyota Highlander.
Anybody here ever experience this with their Accent ???
Just curious,
Fish

Here are a couple photographs of the mods I recently completed.
-The first one is simply the Korean-spec emblems for the equivalent model. This has definitely set my car apart from the other Accents I have seen on the road. ($12US/each)
-The second mod was a minor paint job to the brake calipers. Duplicolor has a brake kit product that provides everything you need to do it ($14US)
If anyone has any other cheap suggestions, let me know.

Hey all,
Just wondering if you could offer some tips to remove or conceal some scratches on door panels. I had to remove a window crank to fix the windows and something w/the clip got screwed up and now I can't help but notices scratches all around that area. Any suggestions?

I just purchased an SE a week ago and was wondering what would be the best sounding muffler for it? I don't like winey loud and obnoxious, but a subtle little roar on take off would be fine. The lower toned the better. And would their be any tips that would give me what I seek or do I need the muffler as well?

I knew right from the start, that I would end up getting some aftermarket wheels for my Accent GS 3dr. I think the solid alloy rims on the SE look pretty nice, but at a glance, they almost don't look very different from the 14" steel wheels and hub caps on the GS.
Anyway, I have a good hookup on brand new wheels and tires, any brand, any size, for 40% to 50% off (from an actual shop too..... not stolen... but depending on how you look at it, almost ;-)
So then, the SE comes with 205-45-16's. Of course this is what Hyundai recommends, for an "upgraded Accent". I personally think that 205-40-17's would look better..... but I have a few concerns; 1) Would my ride get a lot rougher ? 2) would I be much more likely to bend a rim from hitting big bumps or potholes ? And 3) how much additional wear and tear would 17"s put on my suspension ?
Either way, I'm expecting some sweet aftermarket tires and rims, for maybe $600, so I'm not complaining :-)
Peace,
Fish
PS, in deciding between the 16"s or the 17"s, I'm placing 60% importance on function, durability, and ride, and 40% on the "coolness" factor ;-)

My tranny feels good (it sure better, with only 500 miles on it !)... solid, but not slamming. The only thing that feels a little odd to me, is that if I don't give it much gas, while getting up to 35 or 37mph (most of my in-town driving) it seems to hang on to 1st for a normal length of time. Then it shifts smoothly into 2nd. However, it often shifts really quickly into 3rd....... "or" is it kicking quickly into over drive, because I'm already getting up to speed, and backing off on the peddal ?
Next question; If I turn the over drive off, during my in-town driving, will this substantially lower my fuel mileage ? I guess losing a mile or two to the gallon might be worth it, if it substantially increased the longevity of my tranny.
How many of you with the 4 speed auto's, leave your over-drive on at all times, vs, those that turn it off when staying below 40 mph ?
Your suggestions, and experiences please,
Thank you,
Fish
PS, I bet a 5 speed sure would have been fun, but as I have said, a 5 speed turns me into Mario Andretti ! ;-) The poor car wouldn't last half as long for me, as an auto trans will.

Hi! I got a Drive+Play for christmas, and I have a question-
For those of you familiar with those, I currently have it hooked up to power on via the cigarette lighter outlet. I want to use the wiring provided to hook it up to the radio so it powers on when the car goes on in the '07 Accent., instead of having it plugged into the outlet. I do not want to cut any wires because there are more than one yellow wires and red wires and do not want to use the wrong ones.
My question: Does it matter which yellow/red/black wires I use?

I think it might be a little different if I was the owner of say a "Napa Auto Parts" store..... and I bought 10 Accents, slapped Napa signs on the doors, and handed them out to employees who couldn't care less if the the car broke down in the first month..... and who consequentally abused the heck out of the poor things.....
But none the less, mine will be used for some hard-core pizza delivery. Sure, I will do my maintenance religiously, but I will flat drive the wheels off of this thing, and I'm wondering if this would be considered "commercial use" ? Have I overlooked anything stating that this might void my 100k warranty ?
Thank you,
Fish

supposedly due to arrive in a couple days anyway. None of my local dealers up here in Nor Cal had the exact model and color that I wanted in stock. But I have finalized a deal on an 07' Accent GS 3dr.
So, I have one MAJOR concern, and one "how to" question.
The concern is (and I did read the whole thread about milage) I see people talking about "babying" their Accents.... and / or "mostly freeway miles" and STILL getting lower than expected MPG ??? Holy @$%$ ! I deliver pizzas every day ! Almost all in-town.... and yes, sure I'm going to drive the thing as easy as possible, for at least a few weeks, but the fact is, I will end up driving the freaking wheels off this thing, like I would (like I basically have to, to make a living) with any car I own ! I mean, yes, I change my oil every 3000... sometimes even 2500 miles, as well as all the other general maintenance stuff too. But to give you an idea of how hard I drive, I go through the break pads on my Metro, at a rate of a new set, every 2 to 3 months ! Thank God for life time break pads.
My previous delivery car is / was a 97" Geo Metro, 3-speed automatic, which was rated at 30/34. So anyway, on those rare occasions when I used this car for long highway trips, and kept the speed to around 60mph, sure, I think 34 was pretty close..... but delivering like a maniac ??? Uhhh.... maybe 23 mpg !
So what's my new Accent going to get..... 18 ? Geeez I sure hope it can squeeze out at least 21 ! Otherwise, I may has well bought a Chevy Tahoe for my delivery wagon....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, and for my "how to". I know I will basically NEVER have more than 1 passenger for the front right seat. I know the rear seats fold forward, but they are still tilted at somewhat of an angle, plus the upper seat cushions themselves will take up some space. I'm considering completely removing them, then cutting a nice "form fitting" peace of plywood to lay over the top of the bottom cushions, and continue right back to the back of the car. Of course I would even carpet it to match the rest of the interior.
So, how hard is it going to be to remove these upper cushions ? Will their be any unforseen problems or complications with this ?
Thank you.
Fish
PS, Other than my concern over the gas milage, I'm pretty stoked to be getting a new Accent GS. I think they are great looking little cars..... and I'm even getting my favorite color.... Apple green :-) Can't wait to see it with tinted glass, and some cool after market tires and wheels.
They tried to tell me something about that, and I just brushed off the whole idea.
First off, because I have a close friend, who is also a certified mechanic, who works out of his garage. For $25, he will change my oil and filter, plus do the other 21 point inspection (or whatever you want to call it). He WON'T ever "make stuff up", but at the same time, he doesn't miss too many actual problems either. Great to have friends like this, especially when you drive for a living.
But anyway, another buddy of mine got the ol' "free oil changes for life" talk, with his Ford Focus. So the first time 3K rolled around, he went on in..... Only to hear, "Oh I'm sorry.... We only do the oil changes every 5K" ! For my buddy and myself, this is completely unacceptable. He's now going back to our mechanic friend I mentioned above, every 3K religiously.
Besides all of this, I trust "automobile service people" about as much as I trust "auto salesman". One time I thought I found an honest one...... but it turned out he was lying about that too ! Doh !
Peace,
Fish
Anybody else have one? They didn't show any pics, but it was in an Accent shown at Chicago last year. If you go
I've had my 07 hatchback since October 2006. The rear side trim panels creak and click every time I go over the slightest road irregularity. It's starting to get really annoying and I'm going back to the dealer to see what they can do.
Anyway, is anyone else experiencing this problem, or any other noisy panel issues?
I know this may seem like a dumb question, but will using these have any effect on the warranty?
The service interval shown in my maintenance schedule is 7,500 miles (for normal driving) and that just seems too long NOT to ne using synthetic.
I understand that the K&N filter is one of the best out there.
At this point I have every intention of keeping this thing for 10+ years and I am perfectly willing to pay a little extra help ensure it is kept happy.
It would be a little ironic however if this were to have any negative effect on the warranty.
Peace,
Dan
Hey All..
Have a 07 Accent 3dr. Was driving down the road at around 80kph - beeped the horn a few times, 4 to 5 quick blasts and all of a sudden the Parking Brake light came on and all gauges (Speed, Temp, Gas, Rev) reset to 0 and returned to position. No change in performance when this happened, very strange. Any ideas? I've done it a few times and I'm going to take it in to Hyundai tomorrow to get it checked over, searched around and couldn't find anyone with a similiar issue.
Thanks!
Here are a few photos from the K-Daddyz Kustomz group out of California teamed up with Hyundai Motor America. HMA is currently in production of 35 aftermarket tuning and body parts. They are said to be released within the next couple of moths through dealers. I already found a Strut Tower Bar, but the HMA website want
s $675 for it the Dealer my cost want's $500 for it, but the guy said he would hook me up with it for about $200. I can't wait till they approve the Turbo for this beast. It is gonna be awesome. BTW this Accent has a Turbocharged motor, with a Nitrous Kit, and full roll cage, all custom made. The sound system is done up by Infinity!! (My favorite, I have 2 infinity subs and a infinity 611 amp.) So I am stoked that they are finally thinking about us.
Hey all,
Lately I've been looking at aftermarket rear spoilers for my 2006 Hyundai Accent. Currently I have a stock rear spoiler.
The spoiler I'm interested in has a distance of 41" - hole to hole.
This of course sparked a couple of questions :
1) What is the distance, hole to hole, on the
stock rear spoiler?
2) If there is a difference in the hole-to-hole distance is there any way to adjust it so that the spoiler will fit? (Perhaps some sort of a tool or a bracket of some sort).
In any case....the spoiler I'm looking at is on EBay.
If you search for "Item number: 290029847669" you'll find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Well after I got my car back from the body shop after my accident I noticed a good amount of scrapes on my trim in the car... well today I installed an amp and subs in my car and i had to take the drivers seat out so i could get under the dash to drill a hole through the firewall for the 8 gauge power cable. Well, while I was taking the seat out the drivers door it kinda killed the trim below the seatbelt and below the door. Does anyone know where I can get replacement trim pieces for cheep. I would hate to bring my car into Hyundai because they would probably tell me my warranty is void after drilling a hole through my firewall. lol
I am including some pics of the damaged pieces and of the spiffy job i did putting the wire through the firewall.
I'm sure with the front ones you have to remove the door, but I'm scared to do that and break a clip or cause a rattle somewhere if I do it wrong. Please help!!!
About a month ago i purchased a black 2006 accent... a few days ago i took it to a coin car wash:
first: i used a foam brush attached to a hose and scrubbed down the car
second: i used a pressure washer attached to hose and rinsed
third: i used the pressure washer with soap and then rinsed it off.
As soon as i was finished i walked by the hood and notice about 20 to 30 ranging from 4 to 7 inch scratches all over in all different directions on the hood. I immediatley backed out of the car wash and as i looked at the car more i noticed these (white) scratches were all over the car mostly on the hood, on the corners of the trunk and a few in odd places. i went to the manager and showed them and they told me nothing like that had ever happend before i know it happened at the car wash because it would be impossible to walk by that and not notice it!!!
i need to know if anything like this has ever happened to anyone im going to hyundai today to show them
thank you
Last night I had a chance to really sit in the car and do a good review of it. For those who did not read my previous posts, I just returned a 4 door 2002 Honda Civic at the end of a 4 year lease. So this is my impressions of the car, not some press material...
Interior:
The fit and finish is very good with the exception of the door handles who feel a bit on the cheap side. The instrument cluster is well positionned and the gauges are easy to read. The only thing missing is a warning light for windshield washer fluid level, something usefull in a Northen city like Montreal where you use a lot of this stuff. A very minor detail, the colors around the temp control dial are a bit to bright, so you have to dim the dashboard a bit to get rid of the blue glare in the corner of your eye.
The seats are confortable and like the choice of fabric, this material should last a long time. The 8 way manually adjustable driver seat makes for finding a good driving position very easy. The backseat has enough room to seat two adults without the risk of them never being able to get out again...
The trunk is well finished and looks very clean. The opening is on the small size, but this is to be expected with the overall size of the car.
Exterior:
The fit and finish is very good and the paint job is excellent, no trace of orange peel or any other paint defect. The doors close with a solid feel, much better then last years model (the dealer had a 2005 in the showroow so I could compare), but need a bit too much force to close properly.
The overall shape of the car is not as bold as say a Toyota Yaris, but it is much more modern then last year's Accent. The design is on par with other subcompact on the market and should not age too fast.
I also like the new roof mounted antenna, looks very modern.
The drivetrain:
The engine is a bit noisy if you push it hard, but under normal driving condition it is very quiet. It also has good power at low RPM, a result of the CVVT design I guess. Under the hood the layout of the engine (see pictures in one of my previous post) is very well done and looks like a much more expansive car with everything well protected.
The manual gearbox is both smooth and precise. It is actually better then what I expected after reading many reviews on the web who said it was not as smooth as Honda's or Toyota's. Mind you I did not drive a 2006 Honda or Toyota to compare, but when I compared the Accent 2006 with my 2002 Civic the Accent's gearbox feels better with shorter throw.
The only odd thing is the decision to put the reverse gear <<top left>> instead of the more commun (at least in Canada) <<bottom right>>. This is even stranger if you consider that the 2005 Accent had the reverse gear in the <<right place>>!
The tires:
My car came the the 14" Khumo tires, and last night I had a chance to drive on snow covered streets. My first impression, those tires might work in the summer, but for real winter driving I will need to purchase winter tires next fall.
Fuel economy:
I got the car last night, so no chance to do nay calculcation on this yet...
Handling:
The car seems very solid on the road. The steering is a bit heavier then on the old Civic at low speed, but nothing to write home about. The brakes are powerfull for the class of car and are easy to control.
Overall I think the 2006 Accent is a very good car for the price.
How is everyone doing? My name is Clint and I own a '07 Accent Hatch, recent owner of the '03 Accent Hatch. If anyone needs any help on cheap HP upgrades or technical/mechanical help with their Accent hit me up. I have learned a good amount about the way the 1.6L works, during my Tear Down and Rebuild of the top half of the motor. If any would like I can post a few pics of what the inside looks like. I know there is nothing for the '07 yet, but if anyone finds anything on performance upgrades let me know. Also check out www.sharkracing.com for All Hyundai's up to 2005. They have everything from Turbo Kits for the Accent, to Lambo doors for the Tiburon.
My mother just bought a new 4 door accent. It has 55 miles. She called me the other day because she could not get the windshield wipers to stop. I told her to read the car manuel.. Anyhow I ended up going over and sure enough they would not turn off. I then drove it to the dealer. Very annoying driving in hot dry weather with the wipers on. It has been 3 days now and we are still waiting for parts. New wiper motor and switch were ordered. This is our first experience with Hyundia and I am not impressed. Nice car, cheap price good warrenty. But 55 miles and already in the shop.
After crashing my '06 Accent and having it in the shop a lot of set backs are causing it to take forever for my car to be fixed. The longest set back is its been taking the shop about 2 weeks just to find the right size tire for the car. Its like they almost don't exist. I will hate it if I cannot find new tires when the ones on now get old. I have the sports package so my car has the 15" alloy wheels. Does any one else have the same wheels and have already had to get your tires changed? If so how much work was it to find them? I am debating if I want to get new rims or not. Oh yeah try not to crash your Accent because it takes forever to get parts.
Hi all,
Just filled up for the first time in my new '06 Accent.
Imagine my dismay when I realized that my mileage was only 26.47 MPG (11.25 Km/L)
Most of my trips are relatively short (12-15 miles or 20-25 Km). And my driving is somewhere between city and highway. The fastest I get up to is 60 MPH (100 KmPH). Some waiting at lights - but nothing like in the city.
I'm hoping that the second tank goes a bit further. Anybody else have a similar experience?
Thanks.
When I bought my '06 Accent I put a lot of thought into the Elantra. At first I was going to get an Elantra until I noticed that they didnt come with much. The Accent came standered with 6 air bags and ABS. For $1,000 more you can get it fully loaded with alloy wheels and power everything. All together I payed $14,100 for my new '06 Accent fully loaded. I think the whole .4L difference is not worth it. The Accent overall is a much better car. Rest my case, if da glove don't fit you must acquit.
The launch next year of a new Hyundai Accent might not seem like an event to keenly anticipate, but this concept preview suggests otherwise. The Accent SR provides an early look at the next Accent and, dressed up in full hot-hatch regalia, it looks good. Good enough even to break out of its ghetto as the new car of last resort for the credit unworthy and the hopelessly cheap. The upswept beltline, pronounced wheel arches, and creased body sides mark a strong departure from the current car. The SR concept is further dressed up with a rear spoiler, rocker panel extensions, eighteen-inch wheels, and a low ride height. The interior’s video-game overtones are obviously pitched at the Gran Turismo generation: There’s an 8-inch LCD, touch-screen controls, and three (!) USB ports. The engine is a 2.0-liter turbo, but Hyundai won’t disclose its power output. Memo to Hyundai: sport-compact enthusiasts do not want an automatic. That probably doesn’t matter, because “the Accent SR is not scheduled for mass production” according to Hyundai. Certain elements will make it into production, however, such as a strut-type front suspension, beam axle rear suspension, and curtain air bags. The dimensions, 159 inches in length, 98 inches in wheelbase, and 58 inches in height, should also be a reliable indicator of the production car.
