Alright, so today i was changing the oil in the accent and after i took off that big plastic shroud to get to the oil filter, i notice this white/clearish piece just hanging out there. I checked in the engine bay to see if there was a matching piece to the one that i just found...no luck. I snapped some shots of this thing to see if any of your guys know what it could possibly be.
It looks like a cap of some sort that the one end maybe snaps into place so it doesn't move.....thoughts?

I'm stumped.

So, yesterday an idea popped into my mind. Me and one of the carpenters from work cut all the pieces, and i put it together when I got home.
I will be carpeting it when I am finished so that it will look like it is just the back of the seat.
Specs--1.29 cubic feet and ported. Realistically, this is a little big for the 8", but will be perfect for a 10" sub.
I AM NOT FINISHED! Still have to put in the terminals and buy the carpet. Start saving for a 10" sub also.
The bucket is just in there for reference so you can see how much room is left.

Sunday I installed a Hyundai Ram Air Kit.. So nice.. And the best thing of it is.. It's blue!!! My car sounds a tad bit more aggressive sounding now when I accelerate. Driving her around today I did notice a bit more power too. I'm happy.
If anyone is interested, I do have photos of the step by step installation, although when I was installing it, the Hyundai Directions were very descriptive and we didnt run into major issues. We did have one issue that left us racking our brains when we were mounting the heat shield but it worked out..

Hey everyone, first-timer here.
So here's the deal. I'm coming home from Iraq in August, so I'll have a little bit of money to throw towards it, but I have a 2006 Hyundai Accent, and I need a way to use my iPod to listen to podcasts and whatnot on my commute to and from school. Everywhere I look online, adapters are only made for 2008+ Accents. Is there any way to install an auxiliary port or something besides buying one of those cheap tuner things that require a weak radio station? I'd like to keep my factory radio, but if that's not possible I'd want it sharp looking and not too fancy. Thanks in advance!

so i took the bumper off of my 08 Accent because some a** left me a cute little mark on the front end while it was parked >:(
a few issues i noticed that i thought might be helpful if you ever find the need to remove it
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!!!! nothings worse then blowing your airbags up accidently while fixing something simple lol
be EXTREMELY gentle with all the little pop-in-pins dont strip them its very easy to do so if you're having trouble with them take a small flat head screw driver and put it underneath the peice you are trying to remove and pry up ever so gently....dont go ape s*** youll break something
you will have to remove the inner fender covers so removing of the wheels will be helpful with the inner fender covers there are three screws in the door side of the fender that will involve some prying to remove them but do be careful not too destroy anything or scratch the paint....there is also one more pop-in-pin right below those three screws that needs to be removed
once the bumper is off (it wil involve some prying grunting and what not) NEVER force anything....if it feels attached...it probably is double and triple check to see if there is a pin or a bolt you missed
now that the bumper is off removing of the grille is pretty straight forward....dont lose any of the billion mini-screws that hold it on and you're gonna need some strong thumbs to remove the bottom strip of plastic that serves as a mini-air dam as well as a scrape surface for steep driveways and speed bumps
im pretty sure that i uploaded a pic with this soo thats essentially what it should look like when its done =) hope this helps anyone in there quest for removing a front bumper

New to the forum, had a question. Just purchased a used 2007 Hyundai accent with the original CD player/car stereo. Does anyone know if there's a way to hook up an auxiliary input for an ipod? I assume if there were a way it would be in the back of the stereo...is there an input jack back there?
thanks

I have anew 2009 Accent w/ auto transaxle. The owners handbook says to use SP III fluid. The only fluid at the locals parts house that mentions SP III is Synthetic. A call to 4 parts houses produced the following results: 3 said the right fluid is all-purpose Dexron/Mercon, which I happen to have for my old Ford Ranger. One said you cannot use any standard fluid and have to buy the stuff at the Hyundai dealer. What's correct?

Hi all.
I just bought a new Accent. I saved about 2 grand ditching the radio. As I was going to install an aftermarket one anyway... it seemed like a no-brainer.

So, the first thing I did was hop onto the crutchfeild site. And as i did more and more research I've noticed a lot of complaints about the schoche (sp?) dash kit. So I decided to go with the Metra kit. So I bought the 2009 wire harness, and dash kit. 70-7303, and the 99-7321.. as well as a Pioneer DEH-P710BT

I followed all instructions down to the T, and I didn't like how the radio sat in the kit with the cage on... it seemed far too deep in.. So i went ahead and mounted the iso plastic pieces... didn't make a whole big of a difference in depth, but allowed me to put the trim ring to make it look stock..
My question is... is there any way to make the radio less deep with the kit i've bought?
Also, i found another possibility, but i'll have to wait till I get the part from the dealer..

So around 1145pm last night, I was in DC driving home from a dinner and as I was turning LEFT on a yellow light I saw one car on the middle lane of a three lane section going north and another car sort of in the distance on the far left lane coming up quick... AS SOON as I realized that car was speeding I sort of slowed down a bit wondering WHY that car wasn't slowing down... and SUDDENLY I heard my friend say, " OH NO OH NO OH NOOOO!"
CRASH
That F'in car side swiped the rear tail of my car and I sort of went sideways a bit then gained control and stopped.... it took me a few seconds to realize what JUST happened...
Well I asked if my friend was ok... I went outside to see the damage and it wasn't as bad as I thought but STILL BAD enough wanted to cry... then I MADE THE MISTAKE of going to the other car (two africans driving toyota 03 Rav4) to see if they were ok and they started screaming at me... because of temporary shock I ACTUALLY thought it was my fault SOMEHOW... well we waited for the cop to come and make a report...
LONG STORY short he didn't give ANY of us a TICKET BUT BUT BUT BUT... something my friend NOTICED was that the traffic signals were a little bit different than the lights in VA. Apparently when MY traffic light is GREEN OR YELLOW OR EVEN turning RED the opposite side (north bound) of the SAME ROAD has RED LIGHTS... THEN the intersecting street gets a green THEN the opposite side (North bound) gets green while my side (south bound gets red before turning green.
SOOOO since MY LIGHT WAS YELLOW theirs was ABSOLUTELY RED!!!!! NO way AROUND IT... I stood there IN THE RAIN for what seemed half an hour studying the lights and EVERY SINGLE TIME MY south bound lane was turning YELLOW THEIR (north bound) lane HAD ALREADY been RED....
THOSE **** went through a RED light which is WHY they never slowed down, slammed their brakes OR EVEN HONKED THEIR HORNS...and what GETS ME is that fact that they even BLAMED ME!!! while i was nice enough to ask if they were ok.... JESUS where do these people get the balls??? THEY ARE AT FAULT go through a RED and BLAME ME?!?!?!?! WOW.... well the officer just wrote up a report, couldn't find a guilty party due to weird traffic signals he said and just left his info with us, though he did note the fact that while MY lane was yellow theirs was RED.... THESE PEOPLE EVEN CALLED THE AMBULANCE AFTER the officer was writing a report....(mind you they had NO PROB screaming at me and jumping up and down about the front damage to their car AND ALSO I AM an EMT and I noticed no evidence of shock, wip-lash or bleeding or anything) anyways the EMT's did basic vitals and left without them... They eventually got in their car and left... while I needed the cop's help to jump start mine... SIGH... I HOPE those **** were on the phone or something so they can get blasted... the audacity these people had.... GUILTY OF RUNNING AND RED AND STILL BLAMING ME...!!!!

So I get in this morning and I notice that the CD is playing, but no sound is comming out of the speakers. I checked AM, FM, CD & XM and still I have no sound. Everything looks like it is working right, but there is just no sound. I tried the mute button and I tried changing channels on the radio... No sound. It is like the connector for the speaker wires has come loose. It worked just fine yesterday on the way home.
BTW, this is an 09 Accent Hatchback, 5 spd, orignal factory installed radio. I am the orignal owner, 5 months and 10k miles into it!
This is the first problem I have incountered w/ the car. WHere should I look? I'd rather fix it myself real quick if possible... otherwise I'll have to sit at the dealer for them to fix it.
Thanks!

Does anyone know what the signs are if the clutch is going bad? Lately when I'm coming to a stop, I hear a clicking sound in the front left of the car. Also today when I put it in reverse to back out, it didn't sound very good and I needed to give it more gas. Usually when I put it in reverse it will go without gas. How much do you think a new clutch would cost? My car has 36k on it

Hi Guys
I am from SA and have a 2007 Accent.
Does anyone else feel that the ventilation fan on the Accent is very weak, I have to turn
mine to at least 3 if i want to feel the air moving.
My mom has a Kia Rio and hers is pretty much the same.
Is there any way to improve it, i have read that the Accents have a filter under
the glove box but not sure if that is true or not.

This past weekend I made a trek to Memphis, TN to be with my S/O. Some good interstate time in my Accent. On returning home Monday night, I noticed other oncoming vehicles kept flashing brights at me. My headlights are stock OEM, no bulb changes, I did have my fog lights on (it was foggy in some places). No weight in hatch area. There is nothing I've done to make lights brighter. I was just questioning why they were flashing me, I'm used to this in the RX and the G with their xenon lights, but not in the Accent.
Is the stock headlights that bright? Were people flashing me b/c I had my fogs on (I know in some states fogs are illegal if it's not foggy)? Anyone else experience this?

I have been driving manual for 3 months now and I notice that whenever I get the timing wrong from 1st to 2nd gear (i.e. rev too high for next gear), I hear a knocking sound the moment I engage the clutch quickly which appears to be coming from the clutch or engine mounts. Since I have not driven other manual cars, I am not sure if this is normal. The higher gear changes seem to be OK. I think it's due to my bad skills. What do you guys think? Is there anything wrong with the car or is it just me?

My office mate at work is 4wd enthusiast. He drives a 1989 Jeep Wrangler through mud, water, and almost anything else imaginable. In order to keep water out of the engine while crossing a river, he routed his air intake to come in through the cabin. Is this something we could with our Accents? has anyone done this before?

Hi all,
Was bored one day so decided to do some mods to the daily driver, '08 Hyundai Accent GS. Pretty much everything can be seen in the one pic except debadging the rear.
Painted engine cover (White with chrome). Front strut stress bar. AEM short air intake. Short shift kit.

Definitely need to clean the car. Have 15" alloy wheels on order, probably will powder coat them white. The interior accent pieces I put on previously are starting to peel so I will probably follow some of the posts I've read and just paint the interior pieces, white me thinks. Eventually will weld up an exhaust to get rid of the "lunchbox" muffler.
Has anyone thought of installing a universal closed air intake system like this one from K&N?
http://www.knfilters.com/universal/apollo.htm I have one sitting around but haven't taken the time to figure out how to route the intake pipe so you might actually get good air flow when compared to the stock box. The filter housing itself I believe would just replace the AEM air filter and fit perfectly. I'll have to test it out.
Have a good one.

Hi,
Question #1
Is regular checkup for every 10,000 km necessary? Or can I skip servicing at the dealer and do it on small workshops?
Last time I did service to my Accent 2008 was 40,000 km and changed oil after then for an average of every 6,000 km.
I am now on 61,000 km and a sheet from service says I must service that car on 60,000 km.
The official service costs a lot, around $600 and It is painful.
Question #2
What is the expected maximum kilometrage for the car (i.e the distance the car can run smoothly before i need to buy a new car) given that no bad accidents/damages happened and service is done frequently.
Thanks.

SO, here are some pictures of the things that i have done to the car so far

Hope you all enjoy.

These are white LEDs that i replaced the day i got the car....bright white in real life

Debadged...

These are the light bars i made for my footwells....next picture is them in action

nice blue glow...(if you have narrow angle LEDs, sand them down so the light will be diffused!! Thats what i had to do.)

now the finished product from my other "teaser" thread...

shifter surround also...

altogether...

And of course you cant live without some pedobear action!

Looks good, eh?

I dont really plan on doing much more...couple of engine mods and hopefully window tint very soon. I'm very happy with how everything came out.

I've been seeing 2 things so far on how to take these out. Some say theres a screw around the ash tray that gives you access to this, and others say to simply pry out the dash carefully. I'm wanting to install a double-din pioneer headunit, without wrecking the dash you know? The stock headunit just isn't loud enough.
Any insights to help?

I have been thinking of a installing the short air intake system that is built by AEM and sold by Hyundai under their own name. My goal here is to increase my fuel economy and hopefully get a bit more power available by easing the load the engine requires to draw in air. I have read that drawing in warm air from inside the engine compartment does increase fuel economy because the warmer air has less oxygen content in a given unit of volume. The best analogy I can think of is blowing up a balloon and placing it somewhere hot and cold. It's diameter will increase in the hotter environment and decrease in the colder one. The lower oxygen content will result in a leaner burn (i.e. less gasoline). Something that confuses me here is that the control unit will sense the leaner burn and open up an intake control valve allowing for more air. Here's what confuses me. Should the opening of the intake valve restore the air/fuel mixture and bring me back to where I was to begin with?
A shorter intake system would seem to have less frictional loss so I would guess that the engine would have an easier time sucking in air and cycling about. Also, the intake area looks bigger than the stock tube we have in our Accents. This makes me think that more air can come in too. Again, wouldn't the control valve compensate by closing a bit?
I have also read that short air intake systems reduce the amount of available power due to the drawn air being warmed by the engine. So it seems that these systems are not really "performance" upgrades. Is that true?
I would really like to see two power curves, one with the stock intake and one with the short air intake. Is there any difference?
Has anyone actually installed something like this in their Accent? I would love to hear some feedback on this.
All of this is confusing to me and I am grappling with the interaction of all the variables.

Hi again, two posts in my first day! I am going to need to replace the tires on my 08 Accent SE in the next couple of months and would be interested in any recommendations. I need all-season tires and the comfortable ride, low noise, and wet traction are probably most important aspects. I wasn't very impressed with the Kumho Solus 16 factory tires. According to the Kumho website, the Ecsta AST or ASX are recommended. Also found Fuzion ZRi in the 205/4516 size.
The car has the factory wheels.
Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Video of Problem
YoutubeThis happen before about a week ago, got a jump, car started right up.
I took the battery to Autozone to get it charged, the guy said that it was 100% fully charged.
My mouth just dropped, that did not make any sense to me.
This time I was cleaning my car, vacuuming it, listening to music.
The radio went out, I took the keys out of my car. Jumped it and runs fine.
Has this happened to anyone before? Oh BTW i did not leave the keys in the ON position, left in the ACC.
Does anyone know the problem?
What should I do?

Hi,
I'm in possession of 2008 Accent 1.4 with manual transition and 6500km bought in Jan 2009.
I'm experiencing following "problems":
1. When engine is warmed up its idle speed is steady and around 650 RPMs which is considered as normal. What annoys me are slight vibrations on steering wheel and most noticeably on co-drivers seat. It can be seen with the bare eye how co-drivers headrest vibrates ~0.5 cm peak to peak. Also, vibrations can be sensed when you put hand on cars body. I've done comparison with Getz 1.4 which has ~150 RPMs higher idle speed and there is no sign of vibrations on steering wheel, seats, body and there is no signs of them even when you put hand on the hood.
Just to note that ECU is flashed in order to solve rough running upon cold startup and that problem is solved. Engine is working correctly while driving, i.e. no choking, stalling etc.
Is this behavior described above normal or not?
2. Sometimes, when I want to shift from idle to the 1st gear, I press clutch and move shift lever to the 1st gear. Just before it enters gear "dull" sound is produced. That sound can be produced when in idle, and gear lever is brought up to 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear without pressing the clutch. Of course you don't push it int the gear, only bring it close to it.
So sound is present in 70% of situations no matter clutch is pressed or not.
Otherwise transmission is working correctly, i.e shifting while vehicle is in movement works perfectly (no abnormal sound)
Is that sound normal or I should alarm dealers service?
Thanks.

I am jw who has high miles on their accent?have you had any problems along the way?
I have 64,940ish, almost 65,000.Unfortunately I have only owned this car since April 9th,2009 and i bought it with 58,000 miles on it. My drive to work was half a mile, so you can tell that i do a lot of driving when i am out of work.As far as maintenance goes:
*what should i be expecting to change/replace? I don't know much about car engines so I will have to bring my car in to get it looked at. I don't have a personal mechanic that i can go to, i didnt buy my car from a hyundai dealership, it is a preowned dealership that deals with all imports so they are the ones looking at it.
*Do other dealerships get charged more to buy hyundai parts if its not a hyundai dealership? should i find a hyundai dealership to bring it to just to be safe?
*Do i need to replace timing belt? auto trans fluid? spark plugs? a/c filters? get a new battery or something? i really dont know so please help me out guys
*i have heard that dealerships charge more (duh), so i just want to make sure i dont get taken for a ride, thanks for any help you have!

I've never been a fan of the stock SE three-piece grille/emblem area. I really liked the way the old SR Concept grille looks. The four-door grille is a close approximation--but is it shaped identically to the stock 3-door grille? Will it fit into the hatch's grille opening?

I doubt there is, but I'll ask any ways, is there a sub out on the stock Hyundai stereo? If not, what are you doing to add one? Also is anyone having alternator whine through the stereo when they use the Aux input?

Took out ENTIRE stock airbox added Spectre 3inch filter. Sounds SOOOO GOOOD. Amazing improvement low, and highend. Stays very cool. Took out all stock airbox parts except what the ecu mounts on. So that Hyundai would MOUNT THE ECU TO THE AIRBOX. But anyway, it ended up costing me 9.52 all together. The intake was really 26.79 or some but got a friend at NAPA that hooked me up. Anyway, video and pics, enjoy.

I am just wondering if anyone has actually been to a "bass/spl competition" and actually had their subs tested. If so what is your stats and what are you running for amps/wires/caps/subs/etc. I am going to buy an SPL meter at radio shack, its $45 so its prob not the most accurate but it will give me a good idea of what im running close to. The only reason i want to know is because its so loud inside the car, but not that loud outside, so if people ask, which they have before, i can tell them how many dbs im pushing

Most people dont care, but i do so if you arent interested in this thread dont post negative things please. just for comparison :Telephone dial tone-80dB, Sandblasting/Loud Rock Concert-115dB.(Pain begins -125dB).Jet engine at 100'/Gun Blast-140dB. so i am hoping to be at least 100 db

wish me luck

I called Autozone and Consumer Auto Parts, they had no idea what kind of engine coolant i needed. I ended up buying the one that is universal to most cars. Can anyone tell me the exact specifications of the coolant? i dont want to put this in before i know its ok.PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!
