For the past few weeks I have been trialling a tuning box manufactured by a German company ASA Autotechnik Saretz and I have compiled the attached report giving details of my findings. Should you want more info from me contact via a personal email and I will try to answer those questions posed.
A really special price to forum members has been negotiated with ASA Autotechnik Saretz who can offer a Tuning box, plus appropriate connecting cable complete and delivered to your door for an all-inclusive Special price of € 99 plus shipping costs of €10 to the UK. (A total of €109)
Members in other Countries should check shipping costs prior to purchasing but I have been advised that they will be as reasonable as is possible)
Please Note: -
This is a considerable saving on the regular ASA Autotechnik Saretz Internet price of €148 plus postage.
This is the best available offer on the Internet. Contact them by Email to order at
shop@autotechnik-saretz.de ENGLISH is spoken and understood.
When ordering please quote reference Itza/ASA ECO CR/Special Offer
If you have another vehicle that has any other type of diesel engine, ASA Autotechnik Saretz possibly manufacture a tuning device for that as well so contact them to see what they can offer you.

Rear Differential Shudder - Rectification
It has come to the attention of very many Terracan owners that a shudder from the rear differential occurs at low speeds with the steering wheel slightly off centre.
This problem has been caused by the ongoing abnormal wear in the LSD (Limited Slip Differential) unit due to incorrect lubrication of the LSD componentry.
In order to rectify this situation I suggest strongly that you do the following:
Return your vehicle to your preffered or local dealer. Aware them of your on-going problem with the rear differential.
If they say that they cannot rectify, or they find nothing wrong with the rear differential, then provide them with this information.
The rear differential fluid is to be that only of LS-90 grade, if they have acces to Genuine LS-90 fluid then insist on it's use. However any LS-90 fluid will be sufficient as the grade is not exclusive to Hyundai.
The additive that must be used in conjunction with the LS-90 however, is exclusive to Hyundai and the part no. is:
53410 - 4AQ70
The additive may take a while to get to your dealership if they are unaware of it's existence, but be assured it does exist.
The reasoning behind taking your vehicle back to your local or preffered dealer is it is now up to you to demand the installation of a new differential along with the new oil and additive.
Once this has been carried out, the vehicle must be driven in a "figure of eight" manner until the noise has demished completely.
This action works the additive into the LSD to ensure that the LSD is efficiently lubricated and treated.
Good luck "King of the Land" owners!!!

I have a 2006 Hyundai Terracan 2.9 CRDi. It is lacking power on the bottom end to the point that it can't make it up steep inclines and is dangerous getting out into traffic. Once the turbo kicks in it is fine. While going up long hills (we live in Costa Rica) the transmission (automatic) has to kick down a lot because the engine just bogs down. We have cleaned the injectors twice, as well as had the injector pump cleaned. We have purged the filters and the fuel lines. We have checked the vacuum lines and one was off and after putting it back on the performance increased a bit, but not to the normal point. It started doing this after we had a leak in the injector closest to the firewall which was causing an airlock and the truck wouldn't start. We fixed that injector and replaced the sensor (in Spanish it is the Sensor Arbol Cevas - no idea in English) that is closest to that injector (top of engine close to firewall). Since that repair we have had this problem. The air cleaner is new. I am not sure where to turn now. Help.

Hi All
I'm hoping someone can help me here. Being a clumsy idiot and helped by the way too big gap and lack of an effective seal round the hand brake lever on my 2005 Terracan, I have managed to drop an item (unfortunately one of some value) down into the depths of the centre console

I can't believe I'm the only one to do this, so has anyone found a quick way of removing one of the plastic panels to get access to the area round the base of the handbrake lever? The rear panel (the one that incorporates the rear passenger ashtray etc. looks as if it is a seperate moulding, but I can't figure out how it is removed by anything other than brute force (I'm hoping to put it back together again afterwards, so I would prefer a more subtle approach if possible

)
Any help will be appreciated and if you have the relevant diagrams even better!!
Cheers
Dave

My 2005 CRDi auto has now covered 12000mls and what started as a vibration from transmission on pull away has now progressed to the shudder reported by other owners.
There is no diff whine at present so I am wondering if it is just a matter of having the diff oil replaced with the revised stuff or is it likely that damage will have occured to the bits that are sticking/slipping.
My suppling dealer is very new to Hyundai so I would like to gain as much info as possible before approching them.
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Regards to all
Chris.

hi my 02 terry 3.5 petrol is engaging 4wd for no reason the a/t light flashes on the dash but then goes back to normal intermitently. auto transmission bloke says its electrical. auto electrician found faults(throttle body sensor and solenoid in transmission). replaced throttle body sensor but fault is still there. transmission bloke dosent think the solenoid will cause it to engage 4wd for no reason but believes it still needs to be replaced. i think its ecu or sensor prob but diagnostics not picking it up. anyone have any ideas that may help

Just been told by the garage that my Terracan has failed its MOT because one of the brake pipes is badly corroded and the rest don't look too clever either! They are going to replace them all, so a large repair bill is heading my way. It's 7 years old and done 60,000miles, with one careful lady owner!
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or is it just me? I'm just curious, that's all.
Other than that, I've been very happy with the car for the last 7 years.
Thanks all

New to Terracan Forum - learn something new every day.
I have 2.9 CTRD Auto - getting something like 25 mpg - heard about "chipping" to improve BHP and mpg - does this work and at what benefit or can it cause more problems than good
I am in the market for a new wiper motor - none for Terracan on e bay (as far as I can see) - does anyone know if another Hyundai model may be compatible / direct replacement?

We have an 05' Terracan that will not start. Long story but here goes.
We travelled up north two months ago. Around 3200km in total. When we got home, the car would not start the next day. We took it to Hyundai who came up with the response that they found metal fragments in the fuel system and it was the pump. So we bought the car home and examined it as it would be cheaper for us to do it.
We had the injectors tested and were told they needed to be reapired so this was done. Injectors back in and the car sent t Hyundai for re-coding. They said there was a mis fire but there was no code on their machine so they said it must be a mechanical error. Not sure if I rely on Hyundai's word anymore.
We got the car home again and it ran fine. The noise was due to a missing air filter. One last start and the car went bang. Misfire? Now, it won't start.
Can anyone give me a reason why it won't start?
Could this be a pump problem? The valve was replaced in it too.
Any help is appreciated as we are getting fed up now and don't know where else to look.

I traded in my old kia sportage with this terracan 2003 model 2.9 crdi few weeks ago, it has 157K km on the clock. Seems to me it is in A1 condition. But because I have been accustomed to the smell of the diesel exhaust from my sportage, I can sense
a very different smell on the exhaust of terracan, really different from my previous vehicle. Would blocking the egr valve can improve this kind of thing? I guess it is lacking air, hence the smeel.
I have noticed that the egr pipe going to the intake is becoming hot a few seconds after starting the engine. I have read somewhere that the egr valve does not operate at idle and wot but only on mid range like cruising on highways. Does this
means my egr valve is faulty? Also, they say, it will improve performance by blocking the egr valve. What can you say?

Hi all, my first post
I have this problem since I purchased the vehicle second hand from October last year (2008). It is a 2005 Hyundai Terracan diesel with an automatic transmission. It has now done almost 65000km on the clock.
If I put my foot down on the accelerator and let it rev past 2100 rpm and immediately lift my foot off the accelerator and let the engine come back down to idle, the tacho will show the rev drop below idle (at around 800rpm or so) and causes the engine to cut out.
I have been to the dealer service center for about 3-4 times now and still have not got this problem resolved. I am close to desperation on this problem and am in need of further enlightenment.
To date from what they told me, they have fixed the following things to no avail:-
1) Fuel line pipes - replaced
2) Brake switch - replaced
3) Engine tune up - the service manager actually showed me a bunch of 8 digit hex codes and I presume these are for all four cylinders since there were four lines of this but all have different hex codes on it.
I am hoping that someone has experience with this problem before and could shed some light as to how to resolve it.
This problem is not only annoying, it is also dangerous. I rather not have my missus having to sue Hyundai if something happens to me because of this problem.

Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the headlight settings on a 2005 Terracan.
I'm looking at taking mine to France when we move there and would like to know if this is possible or where I could get some LHD light clusters.
I know in the manual it shows how to align the headlights, but do these adjusting screws enable the necessary changes to be done?
Thanks

Have a 2004 terracan - 3.5L V6 Petrol, No Compression Cylinder #1 - Apply Compressed Air into Cylinder - Exhaust & Inlet Valves appear to be sealing dependant on position of Crank. What Baffles me is in two positions of crankshaft with compressed air into cyl the compressed air is coming out of cylinder #2 plug tube, alternatively turn the crank over 180 deg compressed air comes out cyl #6 plug tube. No comp air coming out exhaust or intake which indicates valves sealing. I have the top half of the inlet valve removed - Any suggestions on why this is happening - Was chasing ring fault on #1 piston but would have expected comp air out of oil cap/crankcase
Cheers

Hi
I'll try and be concise about the problem as it's turning into a long story.
*New starter motor about a year back.
*New battery about 6 months ago.
*For past 3 or 4 months have problem starting if car not driven for couple of days
*Assumed drain due to device but measured amp draw when switched off is 0.04A which I think is low/ok.
*If battery is unplugged takes 3 days to drop from 13.23V to 12.92V (0.31v drop) (and starts ok)
*If battery plugged in then takes 2.5 days to drop from 13v to 12.74V (0.26v drop)
*Have unplugged alternator and left for several days, voltage drop the same.
*Will start from jump start every time.
*Will always start if been driven in previous 24hours.
A friend has suggested it may be a starter motor fault where the motor requires higher than normal voltage to start. Has anyone else had similar problems ?
Any help with this much appreciated as the problem is starting to drive me nuts.
Thanks
Dave

Hi All,
I have a 2001 2.5 Tdi Auto which has developed an intermittment surge. When running at around 2500 to 3000 rpm, the motor stutters or seems to surge up and down the revs between 2500 to 3000. I can kick down and accelerate through this, but if I try and cruise at this speed it becomes disconcerting? It also seems worse if I accelerate hard from stationary?
I am a complete novice when it comes to diesels and this is my first one, so any tips gratefully received.
cheers

I wonder if anyone might happen to know if the ECM in my car, a 2004 Terracan with the 2.5 litre turbo diesel, actually has any control of the diesel injection? Does the ECM act similarly in the 2.5 and the 2.9 engines?
Yesterday while on the highway, something quite strange took place. I have felt for quite some time that the power in my engine is very weak. While on our way to San José, early in our trip, after descending a hill, we began to climb up a hill, when suddenly, as if something in the fuel system had come unplugged, the engine began to pull very hard, enough to actually set me back in my seat. There are lots of places on this highway where the terrain in up and down, so lots of opportunity to see if the engine will continue acting the same way, and it seems that it has. The car began acting like a sports car, lots of power in the hills and an ability to pass just about anything.
I have been wondering if something that was holding the computer back from giving the enging full power, suddenly corrected itself or if perhaps the timing belt suddenly slipped a tooth and retarded the cam timing or ??? I would imagine that if the timing belt were to slip one tooth, it would slip a lot more teeth and calf the engine.
The sound from the engine now is different too. There is a lot more of the distictive diesel rattle while idling and under power.
There is more to this story........ a while ago I began experimenting with a hydrogen generator, creating hydrogen gas in a generator system under the hood of the car and injecting the gas straight into the air intake of the engine. In the beginning the gas changed the sound of the engine making it quieter and more powerful. However, the system that I built soon developed leaks and the engine was not getting very much gas. I need to design and build a much more secure system. About three weeks ago, I quit using the generator and the engine has continued being very quiet at idle and under power, until yesterday when this other condition took place. I do not think that my engine has sensors that would detect the presence of hydrogen gas in the exhaust system and consequently, cut back on the amount of diesel going to the injectors, or increase it and change the way the engine runs, but I don't know if it does or not. Anybody have any ideas about the association between the ECM and the pump?
Thanks to Robert for the info about the brake light switch, I'll check mine. Jeff Macleod, in Costa Rica. Cheers.

Hi, my 60,000 mile service was £680 with Hyundai Manchester and the 80,000 was £445 with the Hyundai dealer in Bedford.
However there was a small problem that could have been more serious for me. After the service, I drove from the UK to Romania again without a problem, but then 3 days after I arrived the Terracan would not start. On looking at the engine the problem was obvious diesel was pouring from underneath the new diesel filter, when I put my hand under the filter there was a blue sensor just hanging. This was the water sensor that screws into the filter.
The garage had over tightened it when screwing it in and fractured the plastic and then it finally broke from vibration (Romanian roads).
The Romanian Hyundai dealer ordered the part from Germany which took a week to arrive, but they removed the sensor and plugged the hole in the bottom of the filter until the new sensor arrived so that I could continue driving. While the said they do not recommend this, as I was only doing short journeys it should be ok (thankfully it was).
I telephoned the UK service department in Bedford and told them what they had done, they apologised and told me that when I get back to bring in the damaged part and receipt (£60 including labour and vat) to them.
I believe they will be honourable.
The lesson is always be very careful when screwing the water sensor into a new filter "DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN"

Greetings. I have a terracan 2001 TDI, and I'm getting some bullbars and some halogens, and decided to change all my night light bulbs. Low beam/high beam and fog lights. I installed HID already on my low beam and high beam, being H7 and H1. Now, ive searched through some forums and ive read there are different types of fog light bulbs. Being H3, H3C and I read today there are versions with HB4 (9006 I think). Any of you know what bulb is my terry using? They are the round style ones.
Thanks for the heads up.

I have a 2003 Terracan Highlander and the front seal has failed on the LHS under the AC compressor where the drive shaft slides in. I only brought the car 50kms before this happened. It has a full service history, but I don't really know the history of the car. I am use to seals failing, however I have had oil go all the way up the breather tube as well which makes me think it was due to pressure. I had a look on the side of the road and the oil level seemed fine now (maybe over filled by mechanic) and I cleaned as much up as I could and did a short drive and no more came out. Tried to limp to town and it did it again. Has anyone else had these seals fail and am I right in presuming this is due to pressurising???

I have a 2005 Terracan 2.9CDTI that's done about 35,000 miles. I've been towing long distance on M/Ways and A-Roads, intermittently for a year with frequent local non-towing use. A couple of weeks ago, at the end of a 250 mile tow, it had sprayed some oil out the front seal of the rear differential. Cleaned it down and topped-up and watched for more leaks during warmed-up local, non-towing driving including some 10-20 mile M/Way drives. No more oil until a 10 mile tow when some small amount has come out.
Is there a differential casing vent that might be blocked or has the seal worn out? If the seal has gone, is it a difficult job to change it?
Can anyone shed any light please?

Hello All,
I am writing this while my hubby is busy so please excuse the non techincal speak. I will try to describe my problem as I see it and hope you will all understand.
When I turn the ignition on my terracan the engine starts fine but it will not rev up, there is nothing from the accelerator at all, it just sits still with engine running but nothing working, I have to lock, unlock, open and shut doors and be patient (not one of my good traits) for about 10 minutes then it will start and run perfectly. I have no idea if locking or unlocking, opening or shutting doors has any effect but it is something to try whilst waiting.
There does not seem to be a pattern with this, it will work fine for a few weeks then mess about two or three times a day then work fine again for days so it is really confusing. Although my hubby thinks it may be worse if the car has done short journeys.
I am hoping someone else has had this problem and can help us diagnose what it is.
My hubby may well come onto this thread and add more techincal speak to help you out.
I love my Terracan so please someone help.
Thank you in advance
Kaz

Hi
We changed the fuel filter on my Terracan a couple of months ago - just out of warranty so first time that a non-hyundai part fitted. Since changing the filter the 'water in fuel filter' warning light is coming on every couple of weeks. If we drain the filter the light will go out but it comes on again after a while (every 200 miles or so). The car is running fine both before the light comes on and also when it is on. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi, I really like my Terracan and drove it from the UK to Romania in January and spent a month driving it around there in bad weather conditions in Transylvania. It really proved an exceptional 4x4. My two complaints were softness of the rear springs and the tyres I was using, normal road tyres on snow and mud, not good.
However I was checking my MPG very closely on both the journey there and back, which included very bad mountainous weather condition in Romania and into London at this end. On the European motorways I was travelling between 60 to 75 MPH. I was very surprised when it all calculated out at 35.5 mpg over 3,500 miles. I think this was very respectable for such a large engine.

Do any of you know a link where I can get a Fuel Injection Pump (PUMP ASSY-ACCELERATOR 3 /Part No. 33105 4701) for Hyundai Terracan 2004 Automatic 2.5 ? I'm having problems with the car's power while I drive. It won´t speed up more than 60km/h.

How's it going,
Was wondering how I can replace the center console on my 2010 Tucson Limited. And where I can find a replacement for it? Dealerships?
Thanks.
