Hello to all

There are many, many topics on this forum about headlights, HID lights, fog lights, different ways of modifying running lights, brake lights, and more!
There are discussions about what is legal to use, and, what will simply upset all oncoming cars. This is about my search for more light, that is either completely legal, or, if not legal, it is impossible to tell it is not legal. I do not want to modify my wiring to do it, nor do I wish to risk melting any wiring either.
Many people have differing opinions about what is best. My best is simple, not too spendy, legal enough to never get stopped in Ohio, easy to do, and will not upset anyone when it's time to sell it.
The car is an 06 Tucson GLS 2.7L 2 wheel drive in the stock silver color. Stock wheels, and nothing special to look at.
My reason for different / better lighting is not so much about looks, but rather helping the guy behind the wheel to see better at night, and during poor weather.
Some basics you need to know before you start.
What size/type bulbs you have. What works on my Tucson, may not work on your Veracruz - you need to confirm before buying! Your Owner's Manual will give you some info, but this page will teach you everything!
Philips bulb selector siteOR this Sylvania site
Sylvania bulb selector siteThe key is to determine the 'size' or 'type' of bulb in each position you wish to change out.
I wished to change:
My headlights - brightest, legal bulb I could.
My foglights - from clear to yellow, and brighter if possible
My front 'parking lights' - from clear to AMBER (who ever heard of white parking lights?! - YUCK!!), and, if possible, brighter
My headlights are 9003, also known as 'H4' bulbs, and also as "HB2" - generally, get one of the comman names and you'll be safe.
My foglights are "881", and my front 'parking lights' are "168".
Using your favorite search engine, and by putting in a search string like " 168 bulb yellow" - you will find many different brands and styles to choose from! Be careful because, many sites will tell you that the 168 and 194 are the same bulb - sadly, not quite true! The '168' tip is straight, but some of the other bulbs have a 90 degree bend in the tip, or may be a different wattage!
Speaking of wattage... Two important factors here, generally more 'watts' means more light, AND, more heat, and more current draw through your wiring. So, unless you know what you are doing, or like to roll the dice, swapping out a stock bulb for a higher wattage bulb *can* be a risk! This is something to consider - many people tell you that you can double (the wattage) safely, or you simply need to put in a higher rated fuse - OK?! True, most of the wiring in my car is tougher than it needs to be for the stock bulbs - but *I* think it is because they (the car maker) want it to live a long and trouble-free life - and, who am I to mess with that?
I did go up slightly on my foglights however - but, they are not on all the time, they are on their own circuit, and not many will be able to tell they are not DOT legal for on-road use - as the Owner of the car, I choose to roll the dice on this one.
The headlights '9003' bulb stock is 55 watts lowbeam, and 60 watts highbeam, or 55/60W. There are many aftermarket bulbs that stay with the stock wattage. Some have different shades of white, some go to a bluish-white, but many say something like "+50%" or "+80%" meaning they provide 50% or 80% more light for the same watts used. This is LEGAL!!! And it will say right on the bulb case if they are "DOT approved" or not for on-road use, or off-road use only.
The Sylvania "SilverStar" is a well known and popular bulb (9003ST) and the "SilverStar Ultra" (newer and whiter) is 9003SU - these are what I have used in the past.
Recently I have found out about the Philips "X-treme Power"
bulb.
This bulb strikes me as the current best of show, and I ordered a set back on 08-28-09 and they just arrived today!
Whenever I can, I try to buy my stuff on Amazon (as I like shopping there), but I find I can't always get exactly what I want on Amazon, so then I need to find an outside vendor like the one above. Good knowledge on the site, great prices and selection, horrid shipping! No tracking to speak of - you get it when you get it...PERIOD!
For the front parking lights I bought some cheap $2.99 special no-name bulbs at my favorite auto-store. But, being me, I had to see if there is anything better, so for roughly $13 bucks, I got the PIAA bulbs - we shall see how different they are from the $2.99 specials...
For the foglights, I did go through Amazon, but from a different vendor that sells through Amazon - still, shipping not as good as Amazon themselves, but better than SUVlights!
Headlights - $39.99 plus $4.95 shipping - 11 days
bulbFoglights - $28.00 plus $4.25 shipping - 8 days
bulbPIAA front parking lights $12.85 plus free shipping - 3 days
bulbno-name front parking lights $2.99 locally.
Your Hyundai Owner's manual will tell you how to replace these bulbs, and, if desired, the proper way to aim them - the biggest caution I'd point out - DO NOT TOUCH the glass part of the bulb - you *may* put enough oils on it to shorten the life (I also wash my hands after taking everything apart, and prior to installing the new bulbs).
Personally, I believe yellow (amber) foglights do a better job than clear ones. I read a paper recently that stated otherwise. I have also read many old papers that agreed to having a yellowish tint providing better light in poor weather conditions. Only you can decide for yourself! Also, the *cool* factor of NOT having what every other Tucson Owner has is for me

Same reason for the amber front parking lights - it makes zero difference driving at night, but makes a GREAT difference (to me) sitting in a parking lot - same thing, makes mine a bit different.
One point to remember? "+%" type bulbs will have a shorter life than the standard bulb. How short really depends on how much you use your lights? In the past, I normally get 8-14 months before losing one, and as most all bulbs dim with age, I always replace in pairs.
One last point if I may? Generally speaking, most ALL automotive lighting is made by either Philips, or Sylvania - even HELLA does not make though own bulbs! So, buying a 'brand' doesn't really do too much for you in my book - the brand *might* SPEC out the bulb slightly different than the version sold by Philips or Sylvania - but it beats the no-name stuff all to ****! So, be careful of where or whom you buy your lights from!
I don't really consider this a 'mod' - but whatever, it's a nice safe, fairly easy change that can bring you great satisfaction if you drive a lot at night or in poor weather.
Below are a few images of the bulbs.

Hi all
I have managed to trial some pollen filters from a korean company who will provide them to all forum members at a really great price. I am as most of you know not emloyed by any of the products manufacturers of the items that I try out- I get a sample, test it and then try to give an unbiased opinion on it, then I negotiate a lower than normal price for forum members (I honestly do not profit at all by doing this).
Please read my write up and save yourself loadsamoney when comparing to OEM supplies. This company will provide filters for any make of vehicle if you want any others but will want dimensions and Lhd or Rhd details.
This is important Rhd models have different filters to Lhd Models so ensure you follow the right link when ordering (For Tucsons and New Kia Sportage)Pollen filters can be ordered by clicking on the http links provided by carfilterkor below
BUT PLEASE READ THE ATTACHED REPORT(Pdf) FIRST.
Note !
Please ensure you pay for the filter cost plus the $7.99 Packaging/Shipping charge as this will include a tracking number, so you will be able to track your purchase.
Thanks

On the Tucson, the time can be changed from the normal am/pm display to the 24 hour reading.
Example: 1.00pm can be changed to 1300.
To do this, you need to press the "R" button for 2.5 ~ 3 secundes (or untill the display changes).
So far, this feature is on the late 2004+ Elantra & Tucson only.

My wife has a 2006 Tucson Limited. We are at the end of this set of tires but not sure what everyone suggests. We live in North Carolina so we get some Winter snow but not a ton. Depends on the year. So I need an all around good tire. I was looking at the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max and a Firestone FR710. Any thoughts on either of these? I'd like something quiet. The firestone is buy 3 get the 4th free so i'm leaning towards that.
Thanks!

I am short and need a stool to reach the open hatch door to close it.
Is anybody aware of either an after-market product or a home-made system for attaching some kind of (attractive) attachment to the rear door to assist with reaching the open door?
Thanks.

I bought new brake pads and rotors for my '05 Tucson. I have changed pads before, so that's easy to me.
I would like to know how hard it is to change the rotors on it? Any special tools or procedures I need to be aware of?
Thanks In Advance,

I have a 2010 Hyundai Tucson Limited 4WD and I recently had an accident due to what seemed like a malfunction with the acceleration. I was pulling into a parking space in a structure and tapped the gas to pull forward, but instead of increasing the speed slightly the car made a vroom sound and lurched forward hitting the wall in front of me. The airbag deployed because the front end sensor on the bumper was hit. I took it to the dealer and they said the computer couldn't detect any issues with the car.
Has anyone else with the 2010 Tucson experienced anything like this? I've seen some posts about jerking, but did the car jerk forward like it was lunging? It was pretty scary and the dealer said they'd never heard of it happening before me.

Just purchased a 2011 Tucson GLS, I tried out the the usb port to play one of my cheap mp3 players and it works fine, I can change the songs with the stereo controls. But when I plug in my ipod, it reads "error" and my ipod's display indicates its ejecting, which is strange because the USB port is also labeled "ipod" I have the latest Ipod Nano so I know its not outdated, someone told me you have to use another cable for the ipod, not the white cable that comes with your ipod. Does hyundai include this cable with the car because I never got one of those cables? If I do need to use another cable, what exactly is the difference between these cables that causes one to work and the other to not?

Hi Fellow Tucson owners!
I have a 2006 2.0 litre which overall we love. Recently it's begun an intermittent mid-speed vibration which feels like it's in the front end. Tires look good and the dealer can't find anything (of course it doesn't vibrate when we take it in). The vibration can get quite pronounced (scares my wife). I can't think of a thing than might cause this... anyone have any clues?

I have a 2006 Hyundai Tucson. For the last few months, I have been having a problem with the heat/ac. You can hear the blower working and blowing air, but no air comes out the vents. If you fiddle with it for a while by turning it off then back on, it will eventually come back on. Its getting harder/longer for it to come on now. It will continue working till you turn the blower dial to off. Then the problem starts once you try to turn it back on to get air flowing again. Its like the blower door is getting trapped - of it has one?? I dont know where to start looking for an obstruction. Also you can hear a clicking noise while its not blowing... but when it starts to blow the clicking noise goes away. Any ideas? Also I noticed I haven't changed the cabin air filter! Didn't know it had one. Could that be the cause of the problem? Thanks for any help!

hi
i've been having some trouble with my tucson for a few weeks now and i could really use some help figuring out what to do next.
My tucson would intermittently shift down while i was driving on the highway and then it would stay in 3rd gear. It would also stall occassionally when i was stopping at red lights. If i parked it and then go to drive it 2 days later it would not start. it would turn over but not fire.I hooked it up to the reader and the camshaft and crankshaft sensor codes appeared so, I have changed the crankshaft sensor, the camshaft sensor and the fuel pump and still the thing will not fire. Iam really frustrated and would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Came across the forum in a Google search on my car problems and was hoping there might be someone who has had these problems with their car.
Every now and then my turn signals (and consequently hazard lights) will stay on and no longer blink. They turn off after making the signaled turn, like normal and there are no other light or electrical problems with the car. They just stay on when they are put on. Usually, turning the car off for awhile will seem to let it 'fix' itself, but it's been two days now and the problem hasn't gone away.
With the air, whether hot or cold, if I change where I want it to blow (say, if I change it from defroster to main air out of the dashboard) the two middle vents above the radio won't work at full power. You can feel them blowing, but slightly. Usually there is a series of clicks that happens. I think last I counted it was eight times in sets of twelve, before it stops and eventually (anywhere from a few hours to a week), they'll start working at full capacity again.
Has anyone has these problems, or any advice on what I can do myself before taking it into a shop?

Hi:
I am a new member to this forum and my first post here.
I bought my 2006 Tucson 2.0l FWD last October with 21,000km on it. I just brought it to the local Hyundai dealer for an oil change @ 29,000km (18,000 miles) today. I was advised to be prepared to replace the timing belt soon (because of the age of the car, but definitely not the mileage on it!!). On all my other cars, I was always told to replace the timing belt closer to the suggested mileage (not the age of the car). So is it more crucial to look at the mileageor the age of the car? I don't really want or have the $$$ to replace the timing belt well in advance of when I really need to. All advice are apprecaited! Cheers!

I have a 2005 Tucson GLS 2.7L AWD. I have an upshift problem going into 3rd gear when merging into traffic from a dead stop. There was a severe shudder and than the shift. With normal to maderate acceleration the Tucson shifts perfectly. I decided to take it the dealer. The tech who took the car for a test drive came back and said they would have to reprogram the car. After a hour or so the service advisor came out and told me everything was finished and to drive gently for awhile. For how long he did not say. He did caution me that if it happened again I would need a new transmission. I also spoke to the tech and asked him what he thought was going on and he was evasive.
Does anybody on this forum have any idea as to what is going on with my suv. I would appreciate any information anyone has to offer as to why I would need a new trans.
I have 74k miles and atf is squeeky clean.

My 06 Tucson was happily cruising along and as I was contemplating it's arrival of 220,000kms, a grey cloud flies out from under the dash. Hmm, doesn't smell good. Next thing, it coasts to the side of the road losing all power. Takes it to the auto electrician who proceeded to tell me that the ignition computer ate it's own brain, then tried to turn everything under the dashboard to a molten plastic pulp. What concerns me is that when (if?) I replace the offending part, what are my odds of it happening again? And on it's path of Korean destruction, what else can it wreak havoc with on the way? Doesn't sound like it's burnt anything that will jeopardise it's repair, but where will I find another ign. computer without paying more than vehicle purchase price? She's an 05/06 Tucson Sports AWD v6. If the worst comes to worst, I'll strip her out and put the bits on ebay. Other than the computer issue, she's totally faultless.
HELP!!
When I get my hands on her burnt bits, I'll put up some pictures. Everybody likes pictures.

Second, We do not hear a beep after locking the doors ( pushed the button twice ) with the key fob. The lights flash when we unlock the doors. All the fuses are good.
Is this interconnected...???
I have worked as a GM service tech before, but need a little help here.

Hello!
I'm new to these forums, but I have a question already. It's concerning my Mom's 2006 Tucson Limited. Her driver side exterior door handle does not work at all. However, it does work from the inside but the lock (the little plastic piece with the red stripe) is stuck and refuses to move. At least it is not the other way around, but my mom has to enter the vehicle through the passenger side every day. Is this a somewhat common problem on Tucsons? I'm planning on ripping out the door panel the next time I see her to see what went wrong.
I thought it might have been the door lock actuator that failed and got stuck, but I'm not positive yet.
Any suggestions btw? All the other doors still work normally.
Thanks in advance!

Last night while returning home, driving my wife's 2005 Tucson, 2.7, the engine shut down while driving. Scared the crap out of us. Thought I had major engine failure.
I put the car in Neutral, attempted to start, when turning the key to the start position, lost all electrical (or so it seemed as the headlights were on). I turned the headlights off, put the shifter in Park, and the car started right up.
Any suggestions as to what caused the engine to quit?
Thanks, Jim

Hi.
I signed up in hopes I'll find an answer on these boards.
Short story is I have a 2005 Tuscon 2.7 4WD that has just passed 100,000 miles.
While on vacation, 500 miles from home, the car suddenly would not start. It cranked just fine.
Finally called a garage in the next town. They put it on the hauler and took it to the garage where they hooked up the diagnostic computer. It reported the anti-threft system was engaged. Resetting the internal computer apparently reset the anti-theft system. Car started. I paid my $135 and drove back to the beach house.
Next morning, car was packed for the ride home, same issue.
This time we disconnected the battery and let her sit for 15 minutes, reconnected the battery, and tried again. No luck. Repeated the same procedure and let it sit for 20 minutes. Reconnected power and the car started.
Drove home (500 miles) without turning off the engine (two refueling stops). Got up this morning and the car starts like nothing was wrong.
So it appears I have the worst of all possible issues... one that is intermittent.
Anyway... I'm off hunting in search of answers. If anybody knows of helpful posts, link them below. Thanks.

Any help/advice on this would be great and also is this a normal thing to do spot weld the cage in!

My Tucson (2005 CRDi 4WD) didn't come with a keyless entry from factory. In fact they never marketed a Tucson with Keyless entry in this part of the world.
It has electric door actuators on all 4 door + hatch which can be activated by driver side door control panel but no keyfobs and by all probability no remote receiver as well.
Are there any after-market units or Hyundai OEM modules which can provide the keyless entry feature without cutting/splicing any wires?
I'm basically looking for any keyless entry units that could directly plug into the factory wiring harness/connector (if at all it exists)/ ETACS unit or something?
I'm sick of the manual locking/unlocking with the key but just want to avoid meddling with the factory wiring if possible. Any inputs would be highly appreciated

hi all,
have jut bought a 2006 Tucson in singapore to time with the birth of my first son, I receive the car in a week, but has just dawned on me that the car seat fastening system I am used to (Australian standard) will most likely not work in this car. I have been searching for some info as I need to buy a car seat in the next week before the car gets delivered, but can not see anything on line.
I have seen the difference in car seat designs as far as EU v's Australian standards for fastening systems, but not sure how either will work in the Tucson, or do I have to buy a car seat that is only secured by the seat belts ?? They are available in Singapore but not what I want to do.
Appeciate any advise
Signed
New Dad,
New Tucson owner

This may seem like a dumb question to you guys, but I'm trying to find the source of something killing the battery in my sister's 2005 Tucson if it is not driven for more than a day. My own car, an 04 Tiburon, doesn't have the odometer stay on and neither did the Elantra I used to own.
So, is it normal? Or should it be off when the key is removed from the ignition? Thanks.

Hi Everyone,
First time posting here and looking for help.
I have a 2010 Tucson GLS FWD with the popular equipment package (has NAV). I have had it for 3 weeks and love it so far.
I seem to have intermittent problems with the bluetooth using my iphone. It's a 32GB 3GS with ios 4.0. I had no problems pairing it.
Most of the time, everything works great but about 20% of the time I try to use the bluetooth and the phone gives a dialing error. The weird thing is that the phone menu on the NAV screen always shows 'connected' and through the speakers I can hear the phone dial, but then the error appears on the NAV screen (phone menu). What's strange is that the phone itself continues dialing but the call doesn't transmit through the bluetooth. It also has a tendency to lock up the NAV screen for a couple of minutes afterward, meaning I can't switch back to XM. When this happens and I look on the bluetooth menu on the phone itself under 'Tucson', the phone says "Not Connected".
This happens when the phone is connected via the USB/Aux cable as well as when it's sitting in my pocket.
Anyone had similar problems? Any solutions?
Thanks!

Is this normal for a brand new car?. thanks!

Hi everyone. Recently my 2007 Tucson's fan has been clicking when I turn it on. It is a steady click that does not increase with the speed of the fan. Going on a trip in a couple days and have no time to take the car in for checkup. There is only 26000 miles on it. Do any of you think this is a problem?
Thank you.

Hi everybody,
I have a 2006 Tucson limited. Are there any dealer-only programmable options available? I would like the doors to lock automatically (after I begin to drive off) and possibly for the automatic climate control to default to AUTO every time the car is started. Are these options possible?
Thanks, Andy

I want to buy a car video player gps navigation for my car and one of my friends recommend me this http://www.cargpsvideo.com/tucson-ix35-navigation_c870 ,he said that the products there are good, and there are various models of car's GPS. I went to have a look, everything there is cheap, but I still could make up my mind . Should I believe this? Is there someone once buy things there? Who can give me some advice? Are there any other good choices? Thanks a lot!

Just got a 2005 (registered in 2007) Tuscon 2.0 FWD. When I start the car, the warning light 'Airbags' would not go off !
How can I get it reset ? Can I 'DIY' ? It's quite annoying, with that warning light on while driving. Any comment ?

We have a 2006 Tucson. When we back up it just dies. I have notice at high speeds it seems fine. On start up it idles hard. When trying to pass on the highway it seems to hesitate then it kicks in. There is no check engine light and we had the same issue two months ago and the dealership did a engine flush. It seemed to help until now. I am thinking there is more that needs to be done. Can anyone help??

First off, hello. This is my first post so I thought I'd say hi. I'm awaiting the delivery of my 2010 Tuscon and am very anxious to get it. I drove sooo many other vehicles and decided on the Tuscon. I hope it lives up to my expectations.
I need a way to carry my bicycle. On my previous vehicle, I used a Yakima bike rack that hooked onto the OEM crossbars. However, the Tuscon doesn't come with crossbars, but per a local dealer, they are available as an accessory. I haven't seen any Tuscons with crossbars yet and am wondering what they look like. The dealer I called said he didn't have a picture and I can't seem to find one online. I need the crossbars to be relatively flat, i.e. not arched much at all the way some OEM crossbars are, for the bike to sit relatively level.
If the bars are too arched, I'll have to purchase a trailer hitch (thanks for the great info in that thread, btw) and a hitch mounted bike rack. I'd rather not do that since I have a perfectly good bike rack already. Plus the cost of a hitch and a bike rack will be much more than the crossbars. However, the plus side to the hitch mounted rack is that I can remove it very easily when I'm not hauling my bike. Also, the clean lines of the roof won't be disturbed by the addition of a bike rack. It is a low profile model though.
Decisions, decisions.... If any of you fine folks can help me out, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks again, and nice to be here.
S.

Hi everyone,
Has anyone got any idea how to find out make/model of my alarm/immobiliser on my 2006 2.7 CDX Tucson that I have just bought privately. Apparently my insurance company say the theft part of my policy is invalid unless I can prove the car has an alarm!!!!!!!
Any ideas????
Cheers in advance for any help.

05 Tucson. The driver side window just started growling like it was going to quit, then I noticed that its out off align with the rubber moldings in the car door window and therefore is working real hard to try to push the window up in place. As I would expect, my 5 year warranty ran out 3 months ago, with about 30k on the vehicle. Really disappointing as I used the power window rarely. It looks like the only solution is to take the door panel off to see whats getting caught up and making it misaligned. I didn't find anything via a search on the subject here. Who's had the door panel off and what tips might you have about how Hyundai does this set up? Thanks

2005 Tuscon. The A/C just stopped working. It looks like the compressor clutch is not engaging. I checked what looks like the fuse on the side of the dash and the relay under the hood. I don't have the schematics and was wondering if there are other fuses or switches to look for? I will be going under the hood today to check for voltage at the compressor. If I have voltage at the clutch and it's not engaging that would mean a bad compressor, right?
I don't know if this is related or not, but I discoverd this problem after one day when the battery went dead for no apparent reason. Battery one year old, charged and now is fine.
Thanks
Barry

Hi All,
I have a 2007 Tucson Limited and have given up with the useless aircon.
Is it always useless, or is mine faulty?
I recirculate the air and turn the temperature right down so it says "LO" on the display. Having the window down is far more effective. This also drowns out the clatter from the agricultural diesel engine too.
I'm not impressed!

An article in Motor Trend says the new Kia Sportage will be available with the 2.0 Turbo in the near future. Since it shares its chassis with the Tuscon, it follows the 2.0T will be available in the Tuscon at some point.
Here's the link
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/suvs/1...rive/index.htmlAnyone else heard anything about this?

Hey all,
Dumb question here, with a (hopefully) easy answer. I have a 2009 Tucson. I want to remove the floor mats for cleaning, but I'm not sure how to do so. There's a locking button mechanism to keep it in place, but I'm afraid to just yank the mat out and break it or something. The manual doesn't say anything about removal/installation of the floor mats... Thanks in advance.
