i have a 08 Sonata with 28K miles on it. all 4 OEM tyres (michelin Energy MXV4 S8) are almost to their Wear mark...is the normal? i am not a aggressive driver at all. most driving is 80% interstate, 20% city. hyundai warranty document states to go to a Michelin tyre dealer for any tyre issues. when i went to Sam's club yesterday, the guy showed me that there is no tread warranty on this tyre from Michelin......28K is too early to changes tyres in my book.....what have others experienced with these tyres....any advice on where to go from here??

Thanks

I would think you still have a Tire warranty, or a pro rated portion of a Warranty. Is Sams club an authorized Michelin Dealer. What does

your Warranty book say? I would get my Front end looked at as this is not normal wear for a Sonata!

Tyre warranty is not provided by Hyundia but with the tyre manufacturer. I'd start there FIRST. Let them tell you what is wrong. Any Michelin dealer can help you. I got 37K (US) out of mine. Could have went another 5K, in a summer climate, but winter is coming up and Yokohama looked good to me.

You have tyre warranty info in your owners packet. Don't go to Sam's go to a reputable Michelin dealer.

any advice on where to go from here??

Thanks

On the '06's, the first thing I noticed was that the tire warranty is literally a joke - regardless if it is construed as a Michelin warranty, a Hyundai warranty, or whatever. I was a federal attorney for 30 yrs and that document is a lawyer's dream - it is quite long and says quite nothing.

Where do you go from here??

First check out your car for obvious problems. Also, tire pressure maintained and driving habits??

Second, the big names in tires like Michelin now make a range of tires ranging from maybe OK to good. Check out the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus tires. I bought a set from Costco (special order) and am happy with them. They are slightly cheaper than the original tires, yet actually do come with a meaningful warranty including treadwear. Plus, you get the Costco warranty. Check tirerack.com.

It has been common practice for several years now that the tire manufacturers do not offer a treadlife guaranty on the tires on new cars even if the same tire is available aftermarket with a treadlife guaranty.

At the same mileage as you, 28k, my tires looks like new........... I keep the air pressure at around 34-36, usually not even bothering to check it between oil changes....

Why I'd gladly take this over one of those 1000 Page Federal Legal Documents that say nothing KN. Somewhat like Federal Union Contracts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif)

This Warranty is quite clear. Michelin stands behind our Tires tread for 6 (Six) Years, although you need to present the defect within the first 12 Months (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) if I am reading this right, but in any case it is a pro rated 2/32nd Tread wear Warranty only. If the Tire is defective and dangerous, that they don't stand behind nor care about. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

Actually the warranty on the Pilot MxM4's is not quite clear, as your interpretation shows.

What we got with the original Michelin tires on the '06's is a "defects in materials and workmanship" warranty which is stated to be good for six years or until the tread is worn to 1/16" whichever comes soonest. Try convincing a tire dealer, car dealer, or whatever that your tire was defective in some manner. You better be prepared to go to court with a team of experts. This is a "wannabe" warranty.

As to treadlife warranty, there is none whatsoever. If you are interested in actual terms of vague warranties, try going to tirerack.com. Look up the Michelin Pilot MXM4. There is a header just for the warranty. No treadlife warranty is a common feature of so-called "high performance" tires.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus tires which I mentioned in my post are a notable exception. They have a clearly stated treadlife warranty of 6 years/45000 miles. Look it up.

You may prefer your warranty over a union contract -- well, it is a little lighter to carry around.

So there is no Treadwear Warranty? I know what I posted is a joke, but it looks like the ONLY coverage on this worthless "Limited" Warranty is the 2/32 Treadwear, as you need to refer to the "How Replacement Charges are Calculated", if you have a Tire with a defect in workmanship and materials. It seems the two are linked together but I could be wrong. Hey we could use a resident Board Attorney, even a ex Federal one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) No pay though?

Also you have to send them the Tire to Inspect, and purchase a replacement one at full retail too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif) And did I mention the Pro rated amount they pay too?

Tire companies will find any way they can to get out of giving someone a new set of tires. They'll blame anyone but themselves, the car, the dealer and sometimes the customer. I know here there is really no warranty on the OE tires as compared to a set of replacements you've bought. The only thing I'll suggest is to whine and complain as much as you can. The squeaky wheel gets the grease right? I've been having this same problem with the Bridgestone Deulers that come on Santa Fes.

P.S. The Michelin tires that came OE on the Sonatas and Azeras aren't 100% "Michelin" tires. They're manufactured in Korea under a licence from Michelin for installation as OE on the vehicles.

Not sure that is applicable to those Hyundai Models made in America. Wouldn't make sense?

I was looking at a new Caddy station wagon a couple of days ago, and it had the same Michelin MXM4 tires that came on my '06 Sonata.

Moral: With new car tires, you can't be sure what you are getting - except you WON'T be getting much in the way of a warranty.
