For the past few weeks I have been trialling a tuning box manufactured by a German company ASA Autotechnik Saretz and I have compiled the attached report giving details of my findings. Should you want more info from me contact via a personal email and I will try to answer those questions posed.
A really special price to forum members has been negotiated with ASA Autotechnik Saretz who can offer a Tuning box, plus appropriate connecting cable complete and delivered to your door for an all-inclusive Special price of € 99 plus shipping costs of €10 to the UK. (A total of €109)
Members in other Countries should check shipping costs prior to purchasing but I have been advised that they will be as reasonable as is possible)
Please Note: -
This is a considerable saving on the regular ASA Autotechnik Saretz Internet price of €148 plus postage.
This is the best available offer on the Internet. Contact them by Email to order at
shop@autotechnik-saretz.de ENGLISH is spoken and understood.
When ordering please quote reference Itza/ASA ECO CR/Special Offer
If you have another vehicle that has any other type of diesel engine, ASA Autotechnik Saretz possibly manufacture a tuning device for that as well so contact them to see what they can offer you.

For my 2003 Elantra: If I replace the CR2032 battery in my keyless entry fob, does that somehow cancel the code, which would then require me to pay a Hyundai dealer to reset it? Or do the fobs each have their own unique unchangeable code which is saved by my Elantra's ETACS module, meaning I could change the fob battery and still have it operate correctly?
The local Hyundai dealer wants $64 to set a fob for my car (!) so it would be nice to know before making an appointment.
We might just change the battery in one of them as an experiment.

i am fortunate to have a Nokia 6303 classic mobile, this has a standard 3.5 mm stereo headphone plug which fits nicely with the aux socket. The phone has voice command function. What this allows me to do is use my phone hands free with the audio coming over the built in speakers, i do not need to position my mobile close to my mouth as its microphone picks up my voice when the phone is sat in the tray next to the socket. No need for an expense hand free kit.

Hi people,
Hyundai People have installed a Parrot CK3100 hands free in my new i30, and while there is a conversation on the mobile outside temperature goes very high like 40-50ºC. It goes down at reality some seconds after the conversation is over.
Does anyone else has this problem?
thanks

Hi
I have an i3o comfort. I want to replace the standard 15" alloys but don't want any warrenty problems so would like to replace with the alloys with chrome inserts fitted to the Premium model. Any one done this and at what cost. I have also considered the Alloys shown in the accessories area of the brochure. The LS Graphite appears to be made by Borbet and can be obtained much cheaper than from the dealer. Same goes for the Rial Como and Porto which appear to be Wolfrace wheels. Has anyone fitted any of these wheels to their car and any pics.
Thanks

Hi all
New UK i30 owner here. My wife has an i30 1.6crdi comfort and I've just taken delivery of an i30 2.0crdi premium (second hand, 8,800 miles on the clock).
My wife got two remote keys with her car, and I got one remote key and one standard key.
To the questions:
Is it possible to buy a second remote key, and how expensive are these? I'm sure some of you have lost a key at one point or another?
My wife can open my car with the standard key but obviously the alarm goes off until she starts the engine - so not ideal.
Thanks in advance

Hello anyone with a towbar on their i30 (bob and ???)
My new towbar came with a neat plastic cover over the"slot" where you poke the tongue in. They just put the tongue with Towball attached in the boot and a couple of chain clasps in my console.
When I put the tongue in the slot two things happened:-
Firstly, when I pushed the pin up from underneath it came up against the base of the plastic bumper so I had to put real pressure under it so I could do the bright orange nut up tightly before putting the locking pin in place.
The when it was tight I could still wobble it slightly side to side. Noisy and would have been noticeable while driving. (major technical fix here, have pens to the ready... I jambed the clip part of a black pen cap in the gap (worked rather nicely but shouldn't have been required)
Then...later noticed a new sticker in my drivers door jamb with towing weights etc... and it says quote "for towing of trailers only" ...lucky I didn't buy that little caravan to put on my new block for amenities use!!!!
Never had a towbar before (except on my Company vehicles) but assumed all towbars were made equal???
Thats it for now (photos to come)
Rgds,
Dazz

My lovely i30 of 3 months was broken into last week with some scumbag putting a brick through the passenger window. They went in the glove compartment and took my handbook and my box of locking wheelnuts which had lain there since July and I kept on delaying putting them with the spare wheel.
The handbook was £35 to replace at the dealers;new wheel nuts were also £35 plus an hours labour to cut off the existing ones at £80! totalling £150 which is my excess! Then a further £60 as excess on a new window. So it cost me £210 for some scumbag to break into my car.
Moral of the story is get those wheel nuts in a safe place in your car!!
PS. What is the procedure to change the clock time?
PPS. Cant access the i30 owners club site when clicking on link?

Hi just wanted to say hi before posting ,
part 1 got home and when I tried to lock the car it turns out that the red light on the key fob shows ok, but the central lock does not function using the remote , but functions manually.
Later I tried the spare key and same luck.
Any body knows of a way to reset the reciever in the car at least that is where the problem lies me thinks.Car is still under warranty but its a pain to go to the dealer.
Thanks guys for all the help.
Part 2 hi again, this morning I tried the fob again and all seemed to work perfectly, only to out that later it would not lock the system ,so I assume it is an intermittent faul.
Any ideas please?
cheers

Hi,
Just joined as i will have an i30 soon. Only a moan really having just read the post from isellhyundai Oct 28 2009,12.36pm. in the i10 forum. Is he not missing the point? It is easy to understand that if they sell a lot more cars than expected there will be a delay but just tell the customer.I am a motability customer renewing my car so it is not really a problem as i keep my present car but it is the principle. Due to change on November 9 and ordered on August 10 and told there was a 3 month wait so did not think there would be a problem. Phoned 29/10 to check all is ok ,said he has not seen car and will check and get back to me. As expected no call back so phoned 30/10 and told the factory are saying mid November and delivery takes 3 weeks so should get car 1st or 2nd week December. Does this sound likely? He must have known for ages that i would not get the car on time, just tell me. I wonder if this is my dealer!

Unlucky enough to have puncture. When changing the wheel I noticed that the wheel arch plastic liner on the nearside fitted exactly with the bodywork and had a slight lip which tucked into the sill in a precise fit. The offside wheel arch liner is about an inch longer than the bodywork and extends about an inch below the sill.
Are other i30s the same or is this just a slight fault?

Hello, Advice sought please. My wife has just purchased an i30 and I intend to fit parking/reversing sensors. Can anyone advise if is it necessary to remove the rear bumper or is there access from the under side. If the bumper has to be removed where are the fixings, if access from the under side what has to be removed to gain access.
Thank you.

Hi Guys,
Got my i30cw several days ago. I can't believe how smooth the ride is so far! Hope its not because its new.
Anyway, my i30 came with the ipod cable thrown in. But...I have no ipod, iphone or anything Apple!
I do have several thumbdrives sitting around though. After searching this site/net, I have ascertained that
1) A flashdrive is still readable
2) It has to be formatted to FAT or FAT 32
3) It cannot be too large a capacity (8GB/16 GB max)
However, does anyone have any pictures on how to hook up a non ipod mp3 player to the car? Do you guys use the cable already provided, or is that doable at all?
Pardon my ignorance, but am not so good with such stuff
PLs help. thanks
Norm

Hi again, (see my previous topic about delayed order) - My dealer advised me to phone Hyundai customer services direct today to find out why my i30, which was ordered in July and was promised over two separate occasions since then to be ready for me by mid Sept, was not in fact even made yet. So, I phoned Hyundai, they told me that my car was one of 42 July orders for i30's that were not built because of a missing component. They have been told this by the factory in Korea and they will be given priority and they did not know when they would be made or delivered to the dealers. So, I reminded Hyundai that their I30's are built in their Czech factory and explained that my order was for a standard i30 comfort model - so, I asked what was the missing component - they did not know. But given that my car is a standard car - then the missing component would be for all i30's not for just 42 cars. It did not make sense what they were now telling me. Also, when they told me that these would now be treated with priority but did not know when work on them would begin - It just seemed to me that they were using the word "priority" to pacify me without doing anything about it. So, I asked them if they would know any more tomorrow - and I was told no. I asked if they would keep me informed and was told yes they would phone me in a couple of weeks time when they would be likely to know more. Not good enough. I have left it that I will phone their customer services again tomorrow - and I'm going to continue to phone them every day until I get more actual and truthful information. I felt really sorry for the customer services guy at Hyundai, and I told him so because he was only repeating to me the lies he was told to say. If they were only straight from the beginning. I also asked him how long it takes to make a car to give me a better idea of timescales, and he told me he did not know that either. So, I've got nowhere and I've been lied to and fobbed off. I'm unhappy and my scrappage car is not too happy either. She is making unfriendly noises when I start her up and her windscreen wipers stopped working. Oh things are not good. never mind.. Has anybody else been told there's is one of the 42 cars that should have been built in July but wasn't because of a missing component? best wishes from a really grumpy Petrang.

I am about to change the engine oil on my i30 crdi for the first time.
I did a lot of research, what oil to use. I will be using "Castrol edge sport 5W-30 Synthetic.
Can any one tell me, will there be a lot of engine oil running out and make a mess, when I remove the oil filter casing(cover)??

I have still not got the hang of the climate control in my i30es. When I drive with the A/C switched off eventually the windscreen starts misting up. I am aware that the use of A/C does affect the mpg so I`m trying to restrict its use. I keep trying to press the various buttons in different combinations but its getting annoying now! Also with the onset of winter how does one ensure that the car is warm. Is it the simple task of turning the knob as far into the red zone? I think I preferred the slider control in my old Accent.

I'm over in the UK and stumbled across this forum the other day. Very nice and easy to navigate around
I wanted to ask you all a quick question, as I don't have kids and currently only have a small ford fiesta, so I'm not able to compare things very easily. But, those of you who do have i30's, if you have famalies, how do you find car for space?
Mainly, is the boot big enough? Do you ever run out of space? Do you have a roof box to help spread the load?
Thanks

A friend and I are debating exactly what's under the hood in the North American Elantra Touring (I30). I'm arguing that it's a G4GC (Beta II), he's arguing that it's the same motor as the 4B11 that went into the Lancer Evo X. I can find the sticker but haven't actually spotted the stamp on the block to confirm one way or the other.
Can anyone shed some light on which it is? And any key differences, other than the differences in bore and stroke?

I just called Hyundai in the U.S. to ask a question and the line went dead. I really think the person hung up on me.
This is the deal:
We bought a new Elantra Touring this weekend at a dealer in Northern California. It was the most stressful auto buying experience I've ever had. I literally had nightmares about it that night.
And to top things off, when I got home, I realized that our car qualifies for the current Gas Lock incentive that Hyundai is offering - not that the dealer let us know that. Specifically, if you do not wish to do the Gas Lock, the fine print says that you can get $1,000 off the cost of the car. That is the option we would have taken if the dealer had let us know about the incentive.
I really do not want to talk to those men at the dealer again in my lifetime if I can avoid it, so I thought I'd try just calling Hyundai to see what they could do for us. I was just at the beginning stages of asking the question when the line went dead.
I'm new to Hyundai. Is this the kind of customer service I can expect? I really like the car, but I'm longing for my days of owning a Subaru where the customer service is good.

I'm looking for a bicycle rack for our Elantra Touring - do not want a roof rack, but rather, one at the back - needs to hold 2 bikes.
Will we need to get a hitch? If so, what can we expect to pay (in U.S.)?
Any bike racks you can recommend? Would prefer one without having to install a hitch.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Hello, I was trying to locate a factory chrome "i30" emblem. I work at a Hyundai Dealership in California but can not purchase or order the emblem through my parts department since it is not available in USA. I have even asked my Factory Rep. to see if he could get one through Hyundai and he had no luck. I have searched the internet time and time again and have not been able to find one. Please if anyone knows where I can order one let me know.
Thank You,

On another post I mentioned this issue. I have decided to start a new thread that deals specifically with this issue.
Problem
Twice since getting the i30 (7 days ago), it has failed to rev passed 3000rpm. It is stll drivable as it has normal performace up to 3000rpm. In fact, in 4th and 5th, we have never passed 2500rpm.
We have found in both instances that stopping and switching off the motor and then restarting it fixes the problem.
I phoned the service manager and reported the problem a day prior to the 1000k free service. he was pleased I did as it gave hime time to research the problem with Hyundai. Apparently, the problem has been reported in three other cases in Australia and no reason or answer has been found. They were hoping that some data from the ECU would on our vehicle would help them in finding the cause and a solution.
I am interested in finding out if anyone else has heard of this issue or experienced it themselves. It may go unnoticed if you do not rev passed 3000rpm in 1-3 gears. As a matter of course I ensure I take the engine passed 3000rpm on every trip just to see if the issue is present.
Also of note is that our vehicle has ESP fitted. I have tried turig off ESP, but it has no affect. We have looked for warning lights that might indicate an ECU problem, but there are none when the issue arises.

Does anyone know if there is a workshop manual available for the i30 yet or know when/if one will be available?
When I had my Accent I would go to
http://www.hmaservice.com/ but i30 not listed as this is US site.
With the 5 year warranty I wouldn't attempt any repairs but if anything does goes wrong I like to know what it is so I can compare my diagnosis with what the dealer says.

Hi,
I have, only a week ago, purchased a base model i30 which has manual airconditioning Spring commenced in New Zealand on September 01 so that the daytime high is only about 17 degrees. The aircon appears to struggle to keep the in car temperature down to a comfortable level[I wonder what will it be like when faced with 30 degree heat!]
Q1 has anyone else had a similar problem ?
Q2 is climate airconditioning a higher powered unit than manual?

From reading postings on this subject there seems to be a wide variation in fuel consumption.
Can you post your best and worst over the next few weeks and against each the type of driving i.e. town, motorway leisure, mixed etc
If enough enter details I'll collate and do a summary posting at the end of May.
This way we'll see if figures given by Hyundai are achieveable.

I've recently bought a hyundai i30 hatch. I'm thinking about getting a towbar fitted and a towbar mounted cycle rack for 3/4 bikes. The thing is, I haven't got a clue where to start and what the cost would be. Don't want to fit it myself.
I would prefer a detachable type so it looks neat when not in use (vain).
All advice re make of bars, equipment required (adapters/electrics), fitting costs, suitable tried and tested carriers (tilting ones look good so boot can open without detaching) would be very welcome. Can my hyundai carry 4 bikes this way or is it too much? Does fitting the towbar affect my 5 yr hyundai warranty?
thanks.

Hi All
Just wondering if the iphone is compatible with the cable supplied by Hyundai? As the pin configuration is different on the iphone to the ipod there may be differences. I would like to know the following:
Does the iphone charge whilst plugged in?
Does the warning come up about a non-compatible device being plugged in?
Thanks

Hello all ,
I am looking forward to the delivery of i30cw!
In the meantime, how are current users of the following accessories finding their purchase?
iPod Direct Connect1. Is the iPod Direct Connect compatible with the iPhone?
2. I know you can control the songs on the steering wheel controls, but can you control it via:
i) the dashboard console
ii) the actual device itself (iPod or iPhone)
Bluetooth Phone Kit1. Is the Bluetooth Kit an add-on without installation or incorporated into the vehicle as a customized fixture?
2. With the iPhone 3G now Bluetooth Stereo capable (i.e. users can now play music to a Bluetooth headphone), has anyone tried streaming music to their Bluetooth Phone Kit installed on their i30 (and how did it go)?
Thanks for any or all parts of my questions. Apologies for the multi-part questions, but I appreciate your response to any part of it!
Cheers, Jason.

My wife left the keys in my i30 at the airport and it locked itself. (very clever but not convenient) I can go back with the spare key and open the door manually. Will that set off the alarm? Will it open. Once in I can get the other keys, but it is a 3 hour trip so I want to be sure it will work.
Thanks

Driving the car to work, and all of a sudden, the gearbox shat itself!!! arrghh!!! drove straight to the hyundai dealer... 4000rpm @ 30kph!!
Still waiting to find out what is wrong with it but has anyone else had any issues with their gearbox?
