For the past few weeks I have been trialling a tuning box manufactured by a German company ASA Autotechnik Saretz and I have compiled the attached report giving details of my findings. Should you want more info from me contact via a personal email and I will try to answer those questions posed.
A really special price to forum members has been negotiated with ASA Autotechnik Saretz who can offer a Tuning box, plus appropriate connecting cable complete and delivered to your door for an all-inclusive Special price of € 99 plus shipping costs of €10 to the UK. (A total of €109)
Members in other Countries should check shipping costs prior to purchasing but I have been advised that they will be as reasonable as is possible)
Please Note: -
This is a considerable saving on the regular ASA Autotechnik Saretz Internet price of €148 plus postage.
This is the best available offer on the Internet. Contact them by Email to order at
shop@autotechnik-saretz.de ENGLISH is spoken and understood.
When ordering please quote reference Itza/ASA ECO CR/Special Offer
If you have another vehicle that has any other type of diesel engine, ASA Autotechnik Saretz possibly manufacture a tuning device for that as well so contact them to see what they can offer you.

Rear Differential Shudder - Rectification
It has come to the attention of very many Terracan owners that a shudder from the rear differential occurs at low speeds with the steering wheel slightly off centre.
This problem has been caused by the ongoing abnormal wear in the LSD (Limited Slip Differential) unit due to incorrect lubrication of the LSD componentry.
In order to rectify this situation I suggest strongly that you do the following:
Return your vehicle to your preffered or local dealer. Aware them of your on-going problem with the rear differential.
If they say that they cannot rectify, or they find nothing wrong with the rear differential, then provide them with this information.
The rear differential fluid is to be that only of LS-90 grade, if they have acces to Genuine LS-90 fluid then insist on it's use. However any LS-90 fluid will be sufficient as the grade is not exclusive to Hyundai.
The additive that must be used in conjunction with the LS-90 however, is exclusive to Hyundai and the part no. is:
53410 - 4AQ70
The additive may take a while to get to your dealership if they are unaware of it's existence, but be assured it does exist.
The reasoning behind taking your vehicle back to your local or preffered dealer is it is now up to you to demand the installation of a new differential along with the new oil and additive.
Once this has been carried out, the vehicle must be driven in a "figure of eight" manner until the noise has demished completely.
This action works the additive into the LSD to ensure that the LSD is efficiently lubricated and treated.
Good luck "King of the Land" owners!!!

I traded in my old kia sportage with this terracan 2003 model 2.9 crdi few weeks ago, it has 157K km on the clock. Seems to me it is in A1 condition. But because I have been accustomed to the smell of the diesel exhaust from my sportage, I can sense
a very different smell on the exhaust of terracan, really different from my previous vehicle. Would blocking the egr valve can improve this kind of thing? I guess it is lacking air, hence the smeel.
I have noticed that the egr pipe going to the intake is becoming hot a few seconds after starting the engine. I have read somewhere that the egr valve does not operate at idle and wot but only on mid range like cruising on highways. Does this
means my egr valve is faulty? Also, they say, it will improve performance by blocking the egr valve. What can you say?

The problem appears to have been fixed with the use of Kalimex K-Seal £15.00 delivered to the door This has sorted the leak and is a lot less than the matrix £300 ++ for unit Plus a day to fit it. Spoke to Hyundai main dealer mechanic who has done three and it is a full dash removal plus drop the steering column.
this stuff does not block cooling ways on radiators like some RADWELD sealers. Google Kalimex for full details
Ran AC system with COMMA cleaning bomb in car footwell to clean up system. would reccommend to any one with similar problem to follow trhis route
gid
The car has just been serviced. No problem with the pollen filter. my mechanic says smell is antifreeze. The screen actually gets damp with the blower on and the moisture on the screen tastes of antifreeze. He thinks problem is tiny pinhole leak on heater matrix that is sending tiny quantities of coolant into air stream.
Any experience of this?? or does any one know best deal on a heater matrix, or how easy it is to get the old one out from within the dash!!!!!

Hi all. Just had 40k mile service done. Handbook says that both axles are due an oil change along with clutch fluid replacement. Neither item was on dealers service sheet, and when i queried it i was told they only get done "as and when". I have emailed hyundai uk to try to get an answer but does anyone here know if they should have been done? cheers

I wonder if anyone might happen to know if the ECM in my car, a 2004 Terracan with the 2.5 litre turbo diesel, actually has any control of the diesel injection? Does the ECM act similarly in the 2.5 and the 2.9 engines?
Yesterday while on the highway, something quite strange took place. I have felt for quite some time that the power in my engine is very weak. While on our way to San José, early in our trip, after descending a hill, we began to climb up a hill, when suddenly, as if something in the fuel system had come unplugged, the engine began to pull very hard, enough to actually set me back in my seat. There are lots of places on this highway where the terrain in up and down, so lots of opportunity to see if the engine will continue acting the same way, and it seems that it has. The car began acting like a sports car, lots of power in the hills and an ability to pass just about anything.
I have been wondering if something that was holding the computer back from giving the enging full power, suddenly corrected itself or if perhaps the timing belt suddenly slipped a tooth and retarded the cam timing or ??? I would imagine that if the timing belt were to slip one tooth, it would slip a lot more teeth and calf the engine.
The sound from the engine now is different too. There is a lot more of the distictive diesel rattle while idling and under power.
There is more to this story........ a while ago I began experimenting with a hydrogen generator, creating hydrogen gas in a generator system under the hood of the car and injecting the gas straight into the air intake of the engine. In the beginning the gas changed the sound of the engine making it quieter and more powerful. However, the system that I built soon developed leaks and the engine was not getting very much gas. I need to design and build a much more secure system. About three weeks ago, I quit using the generator and the engine has continued being very quiet at idle and under power, until yesterday when this other condition took place. I do not think that my engine has sensors that would detect the presence of hydrogen gas in the exhaust system and consequently, cut back on the amount of diesel going to the injectors, or increase it and change the way the engine runs, but I don't know if it does or not. Anybody have any ideas about the association between the ECM and the pump?
Thanks to Robert for the info about the brake light switch, I'll check mine. Jeff Macleod, in Costa Rica. Cheers.

Just bought 2003 Terracan. Car Has AC. Very funny chemically smell like celery coming through vents. AC is working with no obvious faults loss of charge to the system.
Any ideas what it can be??

Car was serviced yesterday, all fine on pollen filter and AC system, but my mechanics has confirmed that with the fan on the screen actually goes damp, with moisture forming. This tastes of antifreeze. He is guessing that there is a tiny pin hole leak in the heater matrix allowing a fine spray leak to enter the air stream.
Does any one have info on changing the heater matrix//Cost/supplier of new one??

I am planning on replacing my fron shocks (Terracan 2.9 cdri - 2004), since its around 100k kms and still using the original ones, which have proved to be very good.
Yesterday I called the Hyundai dealer and asked for them, and they do have them but are quite expensive ($US110 each), so I was thinking about OEM aftermarket.
Locally, I can find KYB, Monroe and Gabriel shocks. Probably Rancho. Right now I have an offer for KYB for around US$27 each whinch sounds very reasonable.
Any thoughts?
Thanx

I have some questions, and I hope you can help me.
1. I can feel that there is a strong vibration on the transmission especially at 2nd gear and low revs. Although it cannot be felt
throughout the car, I can feel it only when my hands are on the shift stick, as if the transmission or perhaps the diffeential is shaking abnormally. What is this? I did not hear any noise or anything, it is just this weird shaky shift stick at low revs. Any inputs, greatly appreciated.

My mother drives a 2002 Hyundai Terracan 2.5 TCI, which as been ragged over the years (prior to purchase) and with no experience in automobiles was bought. It suffers from the following problems, which I hope with your advice can be fixed...
1) The initial buyer swapped the fuel pump (electronic) with what appears to be a Hyundai Grace fuel pump. The car can rev up to 2100 RPM MAX mobile and only 3000 RPM stationary. I think it needs to be replaced with a 2.5L L200/Pajero fuel pump? How much?
2) The air hose intake is ripped to two, so it is wrapped in silicon and tyre rubber. Why did this happen, because of the heat?
3) CHECK ENGINE, which has also began to appear in my nightmares.
4) The rear spoiler is broken? Cost?
5) The lights are too old and appear to have cataracts. cost?
6) The right light with the turning signal fell off, in dramatic style. Can we get a new one with the whole lights package or should we reattach it like they attach fingers in grey's anatomy?
7) The windshield has a crack extending from top to bottom, which I can solve for 75$ new, is that expensive.
8) The standard AC buttons do not 'respond' to pressing anymore. Is there a fix?
9) The mirror's glass (each) has been broken and only a 2.5$ piece of glass lies there with horrendous visibility. The left mirror is chipped off.
10) The car cannot do 40km/h in 8 seconds with the A/C On due to problem one.
11) The bumper has been punched inwards, pieces chipped off, and clipped outwards from the sides. How much does a new one cost?
12) We want to paint the color of the car metallic black (all). Cost?
13) The rear windshield wiper is constantly stuck any help?
14) The headrests are stuck pointing forwards, and could break our necks in an accident.
15) The screw to the joint of the third row seat is missing.
16) BIG PROBLEM The turbo doesn't work and we need a new one...cost?
17) The car radio has been stolen, and retrieved broken, can we replace it with a screen?
18) The central cover of the steering wheel is bulging outwards
19) The panel attached below the steering wheel and around the keyhole is loose.
20) The panel with the 'Terracan' insignia below the door has been lost to thieves. any replacement?
21) One of the fog lamps doesn't work.
22) The electrical system was fried and replaced with cords and wires and a new fuse box.
23) The remote lock doesn't work.
24) an interior panel as cracked because of the heat.
25) Some of the doors locks and door knobs have been broken, some doors wont open.
26) A crippling arthritis has attacked the suspension making squeaking sounds on rough terrain.
27) When we turn, a sound like metal hitting metal appears.
I know we should SELL IT but it should be fixed so someone would actually buy it.
PLEASE HELP,
Desperate Terracan owner.

My Terracan has 106,000 kms. Clutch is still original (never been serviced). There are no leaks either on primary or auxiliary pumps. The push bearing sometimes "sounds" when idling in neutral, especially after some rough driving. Besides this, there is no apparent clutch (or pressure plate) failure, but I am concerned since considering kms driven, I know the clutch group may be near the end of its life.
In my history I have never had to replace or repair a clutch, so I do not know what to expect in "symnptoms" before expensive damage is done. I know I should expect some clutch "slipping" sometime down the road, but I am not so sure about this.
Any hints on what to expect?

Hi. I have a 2003 Terracan with automatic gearbox and have been suffering an intermittant starting problem caused by the interlocking system which only allows engine starting in PARK and NEUTRAL. By wobbling the gearshift, it will start, but this won't work forever. I disconnected an electrical plug on the right side of the gearbox which replicates the problem and would like to know the implications of replacing the switch. It also has a shaft with two flats on it in the same switch casting, so I don't want to remove it in case the whole thing falls to bits. A page from a workshop manual would be great. (Failing that, a wiring diagram so that I can short out the problem - yes, dangerous I know, but in the interim ??)Thanks. Tom tthomson@wanadoo.fr

Hi Everyone..
Have an 04 terry 3.5 lt ..it has been a great car..We have had it for the last 4 years and it has not caused us any trouble...until now... 6 months out of warranty and 78000 kms ..no 4wd just an easy life for it...3 kids wanted the room in it.
it appeared to be missing on at least two cylinders..I thought must be a coil pack as they do two cylinders each...So I took it to the local auto electrician for a test...not the coil packs..all working fine...off to the hyundai dealer for some further checks...
It appeared that a valve got stuck and broke a rocker and proceeded to chew part of the cam shaft and generally cause a great deal of grief inside the head and surrounds....dealer was stumped ...said he had never heard of this before....priced parts at over 5000...plus labour on top....at least another 2000
When I came too...he said that he would ask hyundai if they would at least come to the party and pay for parts as we are only second owner..always serviced with them etc....
Well I found out today that they will pay for the parts as it should not have happened and they can't explain why it did...but they will at least honour their product just passed warranty...
thankyou hyundai....
Just thought I would bring it to the attention of all forum readers that they are great at helping where they can..
Regards all

Got a major snag on 2003 terracan. Heater matrix renewed under warranty 2 yrs ago. Hundai and dealer want nothing to do with it as warranty run out but surely a major part does not need replacing twice in 6 yrs. Also horn wont work and garage says its an "airbag" problem but i am a bit, to say the least sceptical now with this garage.
Bill for the two repairs £1,300:00 including a major discount they say.
Help please.

Good morninig all,
I have a few questions about my 56 plateed Terracan ( 26500 miles on clock ) please forgive me if they sound the same as some all ready in the forum. Any advice would be great please.
1 When towing my caravan which is a small four birth at around 56 mph now and again the car seams to miss abeat and I can feel it as if some one is pushing my seat back gently. At first i thought it was wind on the front of the van but no sign of wind on the van window.
2 Very hot fuel filter after a good long run towing the van but not as hot as when solo is this engine bay heat or poss fuel filter on the way out.
3 Is or does this sound about wright 24 mpg when towing and 28 - 29 mpg when on a combined run.
4 Radio chopping in and out now and again ( sorry there was no instuction book when i bought the car second hand so think ive set the radio up correct ) as if power outage for a split second.
5 Is there any way to stop the tail gate from gettig covered in muck when it's raining ( which happens a lot in the UK

just latly ) or is there a differant relay for the rear wiper to slow the intermitant down.
6 The feeling of clutch judder i get when pulling away some times is this a sign of rear diff or clutch.
Sorry if they sound as if im complaining about the car i'm not the cars great, a big step up from my last 4x4 in build quality and performance keep up the good work Hyundai.
Any and all help welcomed

Hi everyone
I've just had my Terracan's windscreen replaced and it just doesn't look right. The rubber surround thingy has been fittted badly in that it's short by an inch on one side leaving the windscreen edge exposed and disappears into the engine bay by 2 inches the other side! Fitter said it was because the rubber is not marked with a 'centre point' but insisted that it was OK and water tight. I have insisted that it isn't right and they are going to re-fit it this week. I was told that we had to leave it 7 days until the gluey stuff goes off completely and then the screen is easier to remove. But I'm a woman, so what do I know!!
My question is: looking at the windscreen from the outside, there seems to be an empty groove running from top to bottom on both sides of the screen. At the top it runs away to nothing and the top of the rubber fits flush onto the top of the screen. At the lower edge it is big enough to get your finger into. Unfortunately, I can't remember if it was like this before the new screen was fitted! Can anyone check their screen and let me know what it should look like. Terracans are quite rare in my neck of the woods, so not much chance of finding one in a car park somewhere local.
Thanks
Gilly

Hi all, my first post
I have this problem since I purchased the vehicle second hand from October last year (2008). It is a 2005 Hyundai Terracan diesel with an automatic transmission. It has now done almost 65000km on the clock.
If I put my foot down on the accelerator and let it rev past 2100 rpm and immediately lift my foot off the accelerator and let the engine come back down to idle, the tacho will show the rev drop below idle (at around 800rpm or so) and causes the engine to cut out.
I have been to the dealer service center for about 3-4 times now and still have not got this problem resolved. I am close to desperation on this problem and am in need of further enlightenment.
To date from what they told me, they have fixed the following things to no avail:-
1) Fuel line pipes - replaced
2) Brake switch - replaced
3) Engine tune up - the service manager actually showed me a bunch of 8 digit hex codes and I presume these are for all four cylinders since there were four lines of this but all have different hex codes on it.
I am hoping that someone has experience with this problem before and could shed some light as to how to resolve it.
This problem is not only annoying, it is also dangerous. I rather not have my missus having to sue Hyundai if something happens to me because of this problem.

I'm interested in purchasing a Scan Gauge II computer for my Terracan to plug into the OBD II connector. Has anyone tried this? Do all of the computer's readouts work with the diesel engines? I'm interested in knowing my Terracan's turbo pressure, oil pressure, water temperature, instant fuel mileage and all that it is possible to monitor. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

There have been some posts about the polen filter and how to replace it. Well, I replaced mine today and decided to take some pictures and assemble an instruction manual.
Notes:
This is for a 2004 terracan. I understand newer models have varied but the principles are the same. Also, my original pollen filter was composed of two halves, but the dealer is importing only the single element filter which replaces the two part filter. Anyway, procedure is the same.
Pollen filter part number is: 97030-H1726.
Important: From my own experience, I do not recommend using the AC system without the filter. This will cause dust accumulation inside the evaporator cells, which by nature, get wet and creat mud. This mud will rust the cells eventually causing leaks. Very expensive to repair since the evaporator needs to be replaced and the AC system to be fully serviced.
Do not discard the old filter. Wash it by soaking it in warm (not hot) soapy water (liquid dish detergent) for about 15 minutes. Then rinse throughly and pat dry with towel. Let it air dry. Check for holes with a flashlight. If any holes found, plug them with a bit of elmers'glue or similar. Use this "recycled" filter next time.
Hope someone here can take advantage of this

I have a Hyundai Terracan Diesel and live in a remote part of Australia averaging about 40,000k's a year private.
When I bought my Hyundai it was recommended changing teh fuel filter every 30,000k's and the replacment cost was about $120A. Now Hyundai are recommending changing the filter every 20,000K's and the price of the filter is $390A.
The $120 filter is identical to the $390 filter, except that the dearer filter (in Australia) comes with a piece of wiring attached which is already on the vehicle and previously was just screwed onto any replacement filter.
At 2 filters a year, I will average $7A a week for fuel filters.
You can only fit Genuine hyundai filters or you will void your warranty.
Since the filter is integral to the vehicle actually continuing to run it would seem that to be eligible for warranty you must pay whatever Hyundai demand, with possibly the dearest fuel filter in the world. My question is what do Terracan diesel drivers in other parts of the globe pay for this item, and does anybody know where I can order them cheaper?

Moderators, I suggest this post be pinned since its important technical information). It all started about two months ago. My check engine light turned on breifly for a few seconds while driving normally (constant speed). The engine lost all power while light was on. Then, it all came back to normal. This happened about once a week till last week which happened two or three times daily.
Quite afraid suspecting some injection or pump failure (those are expensive to repair), I went to the local Hyundai dealer's garage and they plugged in the analyser. Error code #0229 (brake/accelerator switch error). They told me its a common error and very easy to fix. The brake switch has to be replaced, and they did. Also the error code then was cleared from the ECM.
The logics about this error code and behavior is as follows:
1) Braking and accelerating at the same time is NOT a normal driving behavior, so the ECM is programmed to detect such condition as an abnormal situation, then kills power to the engine in an attempt to protect vehicle and passengers from a possible accident.
2) The brake switch that is actuated by the brake pedal, has two sets of contacts. One set signals the brake light and the other set signals the ECM.
3) At some given point, the brake switch may issue a wrong signal (that the brake is being applied) when you are really accelerating (for example). Then, the ECM detects this abnormal condition and kills engine power and also signals there is something wrong, by turning on the check engine light.
4) Possible reasons for the faulty brake switch are: a) The actuator plunger (plastic) wears off enough (its in contact with the brake pedal frame bar) and it may short the contacts that signal the brake light without shorting the contacts that signal the ECM.

The inner springs in the switch loose tension producing the condition explained in a), and finally, c) The contacts itself get some kind of contamination (inside the switch) producing the same conditions.
The part is cheap (US$10) and I was not charged for the labor. If fact, is quite easy to do by yourself, but you will still need to clear the error code from the ECM.
IMPORTANT: I was told by them that Hyundai replaced the part (new part number) which means there is an actual difference, probably fixing this error. They also told me this error applies to every crdi diesel vehicle from hyundai/kia, with auto or manual transmissions. Also, that sometimes, the error happens but the check engine light does not turn on.About how old (miles/kms) for this to happen, it all depends on driving conditions, buy they told me they've fixed this in several terracans and starex vans between 80,000 and 100,000 kms).
I've been driving for a full week now and the check engine light has not turned on.
Se attached picture for details.

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and do not know very much about vehicles. I have a 2003 Terracan 2.5L Diesel 5-speed that I bought second hand here in Guatemala. Currently the truck will not rev (in any gear) above 3000rpm. When driving as you approach 3000rpm the truck hesitates and will not rev higher (or go faster than about 90-100km/h). I talked to the previous owner (a friend) and he said he has had the truck at least to 4000 rpm during his ownership. Red-line looks to be 4500. At all times the exhaust seems clean (no significant white / blue / black smoke) and the engine sounds normal (up to the hesitating at 3000). When I say hesitating I mean the truck pulls back as if it is lacking fuel.
The truck also seems to lack power but this could easily be related to the fact I need to shift at 3000rpm which is not optimal for the steep hills here in Guatemala.
The truck does not get driven much but recently I have taken it on several 250km+ trips....which for Guatemala is 4-4.5 hours...and have tried pushing above 3000rpms several times in all gears.
I have a good diesel mechanic here in Antigua Guatemala but he is not a Hyundai expert. I am fairly sure if I take it to Hyundai in Guatemala City they will have me into a huge repair bill.
Currently we are looking at the fuel pump and fuel pressure to the injectors.
Any suggestions for me that I can pass on to the mechanic?
Thank you for reading,
Donald

Hi all and thank you for this nice Forum.
I have just bought a 2nd hand terracan model 2002 diesel 4 cylinders , manual (from Korean) mileage was 45,000 KM in very fine condition.
Really it is so nice SUV .
I used to drive automatic car before!! Now I feel my manual terracan has no enough power on gear 2 and 3 on a rough land at low speed !
I feel as if it need to transfer the gear from 3 to 2 or from 2 to 1(thinking as if need more gear between 2 and 3 :-)
At a high speed it is ok (or I feel ok!!) but Im not sattisfied
Is this a problem in the car or in my skills ????? :-)

I have a 2004 Terracan 2.9 CDRi, manual trans.
I just noticed that only one (driver side) of the electric radiator fans is turning on when the air conditioner is turned on. I have not been able to get the other fan (passenger side) to turn on. There is no engine overheating and the air conditioning seem to be working fine, although, our weather is not hot enough as to push any cooling systems to the edge.
Anyone know if this is normal or if both electric radiator fans should kick in at the same time?
Thanks

Hi All - I am new to the site and I am wondering if anybody can assist me?
Hyundai Terracan 2.9 CRTD (2004) - Auto (Mileage 45K)
I have a couple of problems with my Hyundia Terracan
I don’t think either problems are related though as the second has been a problem for the past year but it never happened enough to warrant mentioning it at service
First problem
I can put my foot down sometimes and the rev’s will build as normal, then for no apparent reason they will suddenly just die, and it feels like the vehicle is kind of misfiring or the same sort of effect you get when you have water in the HT Cap of a 50cc 2 stoke motor bike, but it does not stall.
If I then back off the accelerator and re-apply the power, all is fine and it will quite happily carry on as normal. It can be very dangerous when over taking, if it happens at the wrong time…
Second problem
Also when I put my foot down sometimes the engine takes on a different sound, a deeper louder roar under load, but if I take my foot off the accelerator and re apply again the engine sound returns to normal… Any idea’s anyone?
I appreciate any feedback that may assist in sorting out both problems

I have had my terry for 3 years and it is now on 50K miles (still under warranty). Since approx Feb 2009 time the car does not perform as it should. I am getting a vibration/lumpy ride from the car and now and again it 'coughed'. I mentioned this to the garage when it went in for its service earlier this year, it took 3 attempts for the garage to accept there was a problem and eventually they changed the EDR valve. This stopped the coughing but it has not stopped the vibration/lumpy ride. The garage has said it is road noise. I dispute this as I can recreate the vibration on any road surface. It typically occurs at 2,200 rpm (in different gears), the ride is very lumpy even at 3,000 in 5th (70mph)
I have now taken the car to a different Hyundai garage to get a second opinion, they also say it could be road noise, however they have noticed that the ride from a terry is not that smooth, the car was a lot smoother last year!!!!!
I have had the wheels balanced, yes they were out but this has not made any difference to the vibration/lumpy ride, the brake disks were also changed (they needed it). The disks were also causing a slight vibration to the steering wheel. but since the disks change the vibration in the car is still there.
You feel the vibration/lumpy ride in the seat and not through the wheel, when the vibration is bad and you dip the clutch the vibration stops, road noise eh!!!!
I also have a 11 year old Alhambra with 165,000 miles on the clock, it drives very smoothly (I do approx 25,000 a year in the Alhambra) and currently I would rather drive the old bus than my terry!!!!!!
I have seen the entries regarding the brake switch and debris in the fuel tank, do you think I could be suffering from a simular situation?
Regards
Disgruntled Terry Driver!!!!!!

I have a Hyundai Terracan which was exported from Holland new to the UK and and the car's first place of registration is the UK. The car is currently in Spain as we are on holiday. The car was first registered on 17 July 2006.
The car broke down on 22 July (in Spain) and was taken to a Ford garage as the Hyundai garage was a 2 hour drive away. The Ford garage have informed me that the pistons have seized.
The UK Hyundai will not help with the warranty as they say the car was imported from Holland. They have informed me to get in contact with Hyundai Holland. The trouble is that even though Hyundai UK have 5 year warranties the Dutch only have 3 year warranties.
Because the car broke down 5 days after the 3 year warranty expired I believe I am onto a loser. But, and this is a big but, the car was registered from new in the UK and in my eyes I should have the 5 year warranty.
I am on holiday in Spain and therefore would be grateful for your help and assistance in this matter concerning the warranty.

Hi Terracan drivers
I own a 2002 Terracan with a 2.5l turbo Diesel powerplant. The car starts very poor hot or cold, the glow plugs are new and the compression is fine. When I hook up a second battery the car will start fine. I replaced the wires from the battery to the starter and to ground, rebuilt the starter and tried a new battery. Does anybody have any suggestion?
Thank you
Michael

I have just bought a 2005 Terracan CRTD. I was aware of a problem with the malfunction light coming on when the engine revs at 2800-3000 rpm. The engine stutters for a moment at the same time just like a rev limiter is cutting in for a split second.
I have read on this forum a number of similar compliants with a range of possible scenarios. I would appreciate any advice as to the possible cause.
The Terracan has the remainder of the 5 year warrenty until March 2010 but was last serviced at 42000 miles in October 2007. Mileage now is 60000 miles and I have receipts for previous services completed. Would there be a problem with the 5 year warrenty in light of the above.
Appreciate advice on the above.

2005 hyundai terracan has 50,000 miles, owned it from new and fully serviced. now on faster journeys 70mph+ it loses power after maybe 5-10 miles, however, 30+ miles of variable speeds causes no problems. No missfire, just gradual decrease in speed until any incline means changing down gears until almost stopped. Tried revving the engine and only manages 2500rpm or so. When left ticking over for a few minutes it is much better. Only coincidence with this, is that before first appearance of this problem, is that an hour before, the vehicle was driven in a major storm. Diagnostics analyser show nothing amiss but fuel filter is Very hot, too hot to touch. i still have 1yrs warranty but dealer unsure what to do next.

Hi,
Could someone please help explain where the jacking points are on a 2005 Terracan (Highlander CRDi if it matters)? The manual has a fuzzy picture which we can't interpret.
Thanks,
David

Hi, Global T-fans,
It's a pity that Hyndai stoped making Terracan in Korea Factory. I think this the most stupid thing the Hyndai top administrators did.
But luckly, the original Terracan production line is in China now, and still in making Chinese version Terracan.
I'll bring more info about this final Terracan in China.
Here is my brand new sliver Terracan made in China at 2009/Feb/25, I just brought it at March/25/2009.
Hope you all like it.
Thanx for watching!

All,
I've just replaced a hydraulic tappet (valve lifter) in my 2005 Terracan, as there was a distinct tapping sound from the engine. It’s a 2.9 CRDI, done about 143 000 km.
In order to get access to the rocker, I've had to remove the fuel lines, intercooler etc, however almost no electronic connections have been removed (expect from the diesel injector connections).
I replaced the tappet, and did not encounter any problems at all..
Now, the bloody thing won't start!!!!
I've tried to remove any possible air in the system, by opening the top of the fuel lines, and turning the engine. – No air seen, and absolutely no response.
First time I tried to start it, it started – but was only barely idling. Second time, it ignited on one/two cylinders. Now.., it’s completely dead!! – and I have no clue what the cause of the problem is.
Would highly appreciate any suggestions,

Hi All,
I have a 2005 Terracan, and have lately experienced a problem with either the automatic transmission or the 4wd transfer gearbox.
My model is a 2.9CRDI with an automatic 4wd system. (no 2wd drive option).
The car is making a loud squeaking/crunching sound when the engine is breaking the car. The fault occurred firstly when driving the car down a steep hill at 60mph. I immediately turned the car into neutral, and the sound disappeared.
I went to a mechanic today, and he claimed that this was not the automatic transmission, but rather the 4wd transfer gearbox. He also claimed that this was a normal fault on the Terracan. (Can anyone confirm..??), It would be nice if anyone could confirm this, before I start spending XXXX$, replacing the wrong parts.
The sound is present only when going downhill without any throttle. Apart from this the car behaves normally.
All help will be appreciated, Thanx guys.

Where should the toolkit be kept on a 54 Terracan? I have bought a second hand one and it's either missing or somewhere I haven't looked.

Sorry about the description but I'm no mechanic!!
I have a 2003 Terracan 2.9 CRTD, 54,000 miles on the clock, full service history.
I've had the car 18 months now and only had the one problem before (the many times mentioned, break light chip). However recently whilst towing my caravan I was decending a steep hill & when I geared down and the revs dropped to below 2,000 rpm I suddenly lost gears, there was no grating sound as you would expect but just a fine buzz and no matter what gear I tried , cluch in or out I just got this fine but loud buzzing sound, I found that if I reved above 3,000rpm the gears kicked back in. I have had the car to the dealers and after much soul searching agreed to them dropping the gear box, they found the cluch severely worn and replaced it (not cheap).
They told me that they were sure this must be causing the problem but if it was still there then it would have to go to a transmission specialist as they could not deal with it! I took the car home and on the way the problem started again, what I have noticed since is that if the car is free wheeling downhill (which it has to when the problem occures) the fine buzzing gets faster with the speed of the wheels if I drop into a lower gear and rev up then like I say the gears take hold again the danger being over revving of course (I think).
I've already been told about overwind and I did have the four wheel drive engaged for a longer period than nesassary but that was well over a year ago and there was talk of a problem with the 'dual fluid' or 'fluid dual' fly wheel (sorry) but the car dosn't have one, apparently; my local garage has been onto Hyundai and got no plausable explenation.
I don't want another expensive strip down of the transmission before I cover all angles so if anyone out there has any suggestions I would be very grateful and willing to hear them.
Thanks in anticipation.
Richard.

My name is Jeff, I am Canadian from the west coast of, and am living in Costa Rica. I have owned a 2004 Hyundai Terracan for one year now and enjoy tinkering on it. I am curious if anyone here might know what the stock turbo manifold pressure should be? And if adjusting the pump will bring the turbo pressure up at all and in turn, will that increase fuel mileage? Thanks, Jeff.
