30K miles on my 2011 ET

Twenty-six months and 30,000 miles into ownership of a 2011 Elantra Touring SE/MT, I'm happy with my purchase. No serious problems with the car. The cargo space has proven its value many times. Gas mileage has consistently averaged between 27 and 28 overall, with a bit over 34 on the highway.

The only warranty work has been replacement of the steering wheel, which had defective leather skin. The original wheel alignment proved to be off spec, which probably accounted for the premature wear of the Kumho Solus tires at 25,000 miles. They were replaced with Cooper Zeons, which seem to be beefier and less noisy.

The original carpet floor mats wore out quickly and were replaced with all-weather rubber mats. I also added the rubber cargo tray in the rear, the bumper protection strip and the roof rail cross-members.

After about 20,000 miles, the car seemed to lose its rough edges. The clutch and engine became smoother and (maybe because of the new tires) quieter. I've really enjoyed the five-speed. No rattles or squeaks from the body.

There's more wind noise than I'd like and the leather seating always seems cheap compared to the seats in other cars. The Bluetooth telephone system works well, but it's not as nifty as the Bluetooth integration into audio systems that were available on other models at the time.

Here in Indiana, I can go weeks at a time without seeing another ET on the road. I have to admit I like driving something a little exotic.

What a day for a daydream.

I have put 34,000 miles on my Elantra Touring SE/auto in less than a year. I've used the car to move various items from Tennessee to Florida. With the exception of replacing the transmission at 24,000 miles, the car has not caused me any problems.
Yes, it is noisy (engine, tires, wind). But it is comfortable. It has to be for frequent 700+ mile trip. The tires are still original and should last to @50,000 miles. The tires are fantastic in the rain, crappy in the snow.
Fuel mileage is 29-32mpg at 75-78 mph. I wish it got better mileage.
This car has performed as expected. I truly like this car.

Ditto for my 25k miles '11 SE/MT. Love it! The only work needed was adjustments for the shifter cables. Right from new, it took a real effort to get it to come out of reverse, although all other gears shifted fine. After the adjustment, it shifts better than ever. Glad I bought it, especially after driving a friends '03 Matrix 5 speed. Ugh.

We also just hit 30 on my wife's ET. My wife's only complaint she wishes it had a few more horsepower under the hood but I think she feels that way in every car.
