I took my car this morning to the local dealer for all 4 winter tyres to be swapped with my summer tyres. About 2 miles from the dealer the Low Pressure Lignt came on. I waited a couple of hours after getting home and all 4 tyres are the same pressure (35 psi, should be 32psi according to the label by the drivers door).
I went for a run on the the motorway but the light was on. When I start the engine the light flashes then stats on.
Is it another trip to the dealers ?
The tyres were just swapped over , they are on the same wheels.
I've found the problem, I was unscrewing the valve cap to let some air out and some air leaked out, I put the cap back on and moved the valve about and air is leaking badly so either a faulty sensor or not been put back properly. The other 3 tyres are fine.
There are known issues when they unscrew the schroeder valves. The valves tend to crack. The good news is you had your tyre replaced in the dealer, so you're covered under warranty. If Kwik fit or another had done the tyres, you'd be £180 out of pocket.
When one of our TPMS sensors snapped during a tyre swap last winter, the Service Manager at Hyundai told me that the replacement sensor had been modified or revised. Well, we'll see when we have our tyres swapped over this year!
Thinking about this problem. Hyundai are replacing these safety devices with a modified unit then that's admitting that they were initially faulty and required rectification as this is a safety issue then all the faulty units should be replaced as a manufacturer safety recall.
I've had similar thoughts about this myself. However, Hyundai don't do recalls in the UK unless the wheels are about to fall off or the DVSA forces them to do so.
I'm still to have our winter tyres put on, been a bit too busy to sort it, but hoping that we don't have another TPMS valve or stem break.
In the meantime, due to the significant drop in temperatures, our TPMS light illuminated the other day because the cold had literally dropped around 3psi out of all four tyres. Air put in, light extinguished, job done.
It's your Tire Pressure Sensors. They damaged them - you need to go to Hyundai to put new ones on.
