Azera vs. New Genesis Interior

Today I had a chance to stop by my dealer and get my first look at the new 2015 Genesis. While the car was very nice, I could not help but compare the leather to my 2013 Azera.

The Genesis is very nice, but My Azera definitely has significantly softer and nicer leather. I actually took the salesman out to see my Azera, and he agreed.

I still like the new Genesis, and with the AWD option, it will be in strong contention for my next ride. I paired my iPhone 4 with it, and the Bluetooth streaming has the song metadata on display, which is not on my 2013 Azera.

The quality of the interior was one of the key reasons I bought the Azera. It was much nicer than anything in its class including the Lexus ES, and Acura TL.

I was at the dealer this evening... sat in the '15 Genesis again. The leather in the Premium package is very good, but not quite as soft or supple as the Azera. Very close, but the Genesis' seats felt "stiffer".

Sorry guys but, softer doesn't mean better and yes the upgraded leather on the new Genesis is better than the standard.

I love the leather on my Azera but, I think the leather on the Genesis is more luxurious. Just my opinion. I understand what everyone is saying. I also think that the Genesis leather will stand up better than the Azera. Softer leather has a tendacy to tear more easily.

Lets face it, we all got the Azera cause we liked it. Sure the new Genesis is awesome to some and not so much to others, but if your having buyers remorse or envy issues ever since the release of the new Genesis, well kindly accept it and lets keep these threads solely about the Azera.
We can all get the Genesis at a later date and then compare, but for now "GO AZERA FOR THE WIN"!!!

p.s.-please don't take what I just posted personal

The cars I looked at had the Tech package and one also had the Ultimate Package.
Both of those had the same type of leather, the Ultra Premium Leather. I have not seen any models without the Tech Package. I'd be interested to see the difference.

By the way, I'm not suggesting that the Genesis is inferior. Just that the Azera is softer. Actually, the Azera Leather is very similar in feel to the seats in the 2014 Genesis, and also the Equus.

The new Genesis is a really nice ride, and as I mentioned, I may buy one someday. I'm not knocking it, just noticing that it's different than I expected. If you've compared your Azera to a Lexus ES, you'll likely agree that the Azera leather is softer, and IMHO nicer, unless the Lexus has the semi-aniline leather option. What did surprise me a bit was the fact that the Genesis was not more like that style.

When the 2015 Genesis first hit the dealerships, my wife and I went in to look...and ended up test driving the car. I thought the leather in the Genesis was better than the leather in my Azera, and yes, I have the Tech package in my 2012. It just felt more luxurious, but that could be due to the fact I was sitting in a car that was $15k more. :grin2: I still love my Azera, but I have to admit driving that Genesis was soooo sweet.

My Son buys cars at auction for large company, and knows a GM from a local Hyundai dealer. That GM was aware of the differences, and had info from Hyundai that sheds some light on the issue.

That GM said that Hyundai changed to a thicker leather to improve longevity and reduce warranty claims. (Not that the issue was necessarily widespread) The info he had was that the newer leather would likely break in and get a bit softer over time, but probably would not have the same feel as the previous leathers used in Azera, '14 and earlier Genesis, and Equus.

He expected to see the newer leather type used in other models as new versions of cars are introduced.

If you check out the new '15 Sonata, it's not the same grade of course, but it's been moved in the same "thicker" direction.

So, bottom line, definitely thicker, and should be more durable according to that GM.

My 2 cents---------- The Azera has a better looking interior...just look around and you see better switch gear and trim work...better seats etc.
I was very interested in the Genesis until I sat in one...I said to myself why spend the bucks when I didn't get this magic feel about the car

I haven't sat in a new Genesis, but from the pictures I have seen the new interior does not appeal to me as much as the 2014 Azera. I don't care for the horizontal asymmetrical look of the center stack and much prefer the more flowing and balanced look of the Azera's interior. The same it true of the new 2015 Sonata, versus the previous generation.

The Genesis horizontal interior looks alot like my Kia Cadenza to my eyes. Too bad Hyundai may be going for a "safer" more conservative look. I liked the interior styling of the Azera - it was a tough choice - but I'd rather not see the differences between the two cars evaporate.

I just came back from a service visit at the dealer, where I had the opportunity to check out the interior of the 2015 Genesis. The seat was slightly less comfortable than my 2014 Azera. There was less interior storage in front, just a glove box, a center console bin and a few small open cubbies. There was no covered bin in under the AC controls, and extra pass-through cubbie behind it, like in the Azera. I also did not like the double doors of the center console bin. They open "barn door" style and block your view of the bin contents. You have to lean over the bin to see in. The cupholders were quite small, too. I did like the design of the seatback pockets, though. They expand more and would hold thicker items. Overall, to me, the interior style does not look as stylish and isn't as functional as the Azera.

Simply put, there was nothing about the Genesis that would make me regret buying my 2014 Azera, even if I could have bought the 2015 Genesis for the same price.

I also went to my Hyundai dealer today after taking the wife to the airport this morning and I also sat in a 2015 Genesis for the first time. My first comment was "this is an old mans car". I did not like the wood trim finish. It was not a glossy finish but a flatte one. I did like the Heads Up Display and I wish the Azera had it. I will stick with the Azera. I am not into 40K plus vehicles.

My dealer has 8 of them on the floor now - they're just not selling. So, they are offering some small ($2k or so) discounts, which is interesting. Partly demographics, but surprising nonetheless, considering all the hype and advertising.

I suspect this trend will continue...

Just my lay person take on it all.
