Transmission fluid burnt smell

Recently I did 2 drain and fills on my elantra HD with 112k miles about 2 weeks apart on the transmission replacing the fluid with Valvoline Maxlife atf. When checking the fluid level it smells burnt but still has a red color to it. Any body else used this fluid for extended amounts of time? Am I being over critical? TIA

Was the old ATF dark brown or black? Not an expert, but the burnt smell concerns me. You might consider doing a 3rd drain and fill which would dilute the old fluid to almost zero. Whether or not you do a 3rd drain and fill, I suggest you do a drain and fill at every 30,000 mile interval.

Also, Please update your profile. Easy to do. Click on "CP user" in upper right of screen (on smartphone use PC mode). That will take you to a page where you can click on the "Edit Profile" link on the left side of the screen. You should update the year, model, and engine of your vehicle. Also, please include your general location city/area, state, and country. We have members all over the world. Different countries may have differences in models and laws/regulations. THANKS!!!

On the initial drain, the fluid was a dark red. On the second drain, it was had the dark red color and had a burnt smell, which makes sense since there is still old fluid present. The Valvoline Maxlife says it is suitable for use in Hyundai/Kia SpII spIII applications and have read reviews of Hyundai owners having good experience with this specifically. So I'm a little baffled.

Last night I smelled the fluid that was at the end of the dipstick and it smelled fine. I think I'm just being overly critical, I may do a 3rd flush this weekend to make a increase percentage of maxlife fluid and less of the SPIII fluid remains. I found this formula while doing some research to find the percentage of new fluid while doing drain and fills. Thanks for the help all.
