Replacement key and fob for 2010 Elantra?
Hello all!

My first post on this forum, so please excuse me if I'm repeating a question that's been answered before.

I'm in Ottawa, Canada and I've lost the chip key and fob for my 2010 Elantra. My wife and I are now sharing a single key/fob, which will surely lead to disaster sometime soon.

Money is tight right now, I'm afraid. Is there a reasonably economical way to replace the key and/or the fob? Do places like Canadian Tire or NAPA supply replacement chip keys? I've seen blank keys and unprogrammed fobs on eBay, but I'm assuming you'd have to take these to a dealer or a locksmith to have them cut and programmed, right? Would they actually do this, or would they insist on selling you the whole shebang themselves?

I assume an Elantra keyfob is the same as any other fob with the same button layout, but can you trust third-party key blanks?

Thanks in advance, and happy new year to all!

You get what you pay for... buy your stuff at local Hyundai dealer of choice and let them provide cutting of the blank, and programming of everything in one visit..

Be sure you have all keys present and all remotes present..

You can probably find what you need on ebay. Check the part numbers. I have several of these that I will never use but I would only go with the correct part #.

The key fob will need to be programmed and the trick is to find a dealer who won't shaft you. As I recall, mine did it free.

Know any techs in the shop? Kin folk that know techs? Bribe one by offering to take him to lunch if he can hook you up. LOL Not ethical, I know, but I will assure you, it's been done. Those guys like to eat, too. ;) As long as his appetite isn't calling for steak, lobster, and champagne. In that case, get the dealer to do it.
