XG350 Power Steering Pump

Hey all,

I have a 2002 XG350. I replaced the power steering pressure lines last year, but just recently the power steering pump went. Sine I neede many other parts as well, I ended up buying a XG350L (unknown year) that was smahed pretty bad in the back end to strip some parts off. I have removed pressure lines from the pump and unclipped the rubber hose from the reservoir, and got the pump unbloted from the engine... But I cant physically get the pump to come out. I thought removing the tensioner would give me enough room, but I still cant get it out. Other items such as exhaust, axles, upper control arm keep it from fitting out.

If anyone has done this before, can you please explain what direction is the easiest to get the PS pump out? Like, which parts should I remove to free up enough space?

Thanks in advance.

Did you ever figure out how to remove the pump on the XG350? I am about to embark on this replacement and it looks very tight in there. In fact it almost looks like it is easier to drop the pump then remove the lines. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

danielgk is an unknown quantity at this point
I've done this, twice (own two XG350's). The first one turned out to be a leaking hose - not the pump, and the second one was for the pump bearing. The pump does come out, but I forgot exactly how. It does NOT come out the bottom like you would think. It has to be turned just the right way and then you can pull it up and out through the top. Going back in is much easier. Good luck.
