Hi. I am new here so I just want to start by saying hello everyone. I have just purchased a second hand hyundai getz 1.4 hs 2006 with almost 240 000 km on the clock. I have a few problems with it and I have no idea what is wrong. Firstly lets talk about the throttle problem. Some how when I am standing still and release the clutch enough for the engine too take load the cars revs drop(Sounds normal) pics up to idle(Sounds normal too) but the problem comes in when I depress the clutch again the revs will climb up to 2000rpms when at opperating temp and to almost 3000rpms when cold but drops down too idle again. This can be repeated in any manner so I have no idea what could be wrong. Second I have noticed that after doing a long trip that my oil has depleaded. Thus I asked someone to drive behind me too see if the car gives off any smoke. They say that it does give off smoke and too them it looks blue so I stopped the car, put it out of gear and reved it up a bit too see if it smokes. At idle there is no visiable smoke but between 3000rpms to 5000rpms it gives off smoke. Has anyone ever experienced these problems before and what do I do to fix it. From my knowledge as a deisel mechanic the oil could be valve stem seals or piston rings but I am not sure which it is without performing a compression test(which I dont really want to do as it sounds like it can cause damage to the engine). Also is there anyone who could provide me with a service manual (detailing service intervels, what each service consists of and how to do it) , workshop manual (deatailing how to overall the engine with disassembly and assembly) and a owners manual(the car did not come with one the previose owner "lost" it. Thank you in advance. Wish I could have rather have found an i20 in a good condition for the same price as the getz

Its an aluminium cylinder that sits just after the air filter plumbing (plastic) and before the intake manifold (the 4 pipes where the fuel injectors go). Easiest way to find this is to have someone press the accelerator, and look for a part that is pulled by the accelerator cable - this controls the butterfly valve in the throttle body.

Here's a picture of the TB in a 1.3 engine, it should be roughly similar in your 1.4. The air filter plumbing connects to the right of the TB as shown in this diagram. In the context of this diagram, filtered air comes in from the right to the left until the surge tank, and then downwards into the manifold.

Edit: And here's a photo with the TB circled in blue - again, this is in my 1.3L car (ignore the orange circle, that was used on another thread). To the right of the blue circle is the plumbing that comes from the air filter. At the bottom right of the blue circle is the accelerator cable and spring loaded mechanism that controls the butterfly valve sitting in the TB.

If you're not familiar with engines or this procedure, its probably safer to get it checked at a garage - and you can observe & learn how they do it.

At times, deposits in the throttle body can cause engine revs to rise in the manner you've described. Other causes can be worn cables, or clutch needing adjustment, overhaul or replacement.

Before embarking on troubleshooting those issues, its good to get this one out of the way.
