Engine Light Warning

Hello All,

After some advise if I may. I am the proud owner of a 2006 Hyundai Getz, when I originally purchased the machine second hand it had done approximately 52,000kms. Currently it has done 92,000kms, so as you see it gets a fairly light work out. Primarily used for quick trips to and from work. Its been a great car, I get it serviced regularly, the last service I had I noticed prior then when the engine was worked pretty hard going up long steep hills and long straights the engine LED would flash, I would lose some power. I would pull over check fluid levels, get back in the car and all was well again. I mentioned this to my mechanic they replaced a couple of distributor leads and claimed to have fixed the issue. Now I have started seeing the same problem resurface. I'm concerned their initial diagnosis was incorrect and something else appears wrong with machine. It happened again to me recently when going up a steep incline doing 85Kms/hr, the engine LED flashed, there was a noticeable loss of power. I pulled over switched off the car, checked the fluid levels all perfect and then waited a couple of minutes. Restarted the car and all was well again.

Any thoughts on what I might be dealing with here? The engine has plenty of power after the incidents. The drive is still smooth generally and machine has plenty of responsiveness when driving.

Kindest Regards,

Gryzor.

A flashing CEL is from a misfire. Check the plugs, wires and coil. Driving with the light flashing will ruin and clog up the catalytic converter. Could be a clogged fuel injector too.

When they remove the plugs see if any are white compared to the others. This will indicate a bad injector.

But they should be able to pull the code and see exactly which cylinder is misfiring.
