smoke on start up

hi all.
new to this forum and owning an excel and a 1.4 manual getz'
we bought the getz with 29000 on the clock for a really good deal from a private owner.
as usual with every car I buy I did a full check over and all oils.
now...when filling it up with fresh engine oil it would hardly go down the filler hole as it was all glugged up with gunck
which makes me think it had never had a service before..
anyway, few weeks later it started to blow smoke for about a minute at cold start up when parked on an angle, when parked straight it won't do it which makes me think some or one of the valvestem seals has either **** itself or just cracked due to the probably still factory oil in the engine.
not fussed replacing them but it might be because of changing oil/brand...
went with Castrol as usual and in this case 10W40 magnatec.
has anyone had any probs with blowing a bit of smoke and using oil?
cheers.

shouldn't be puffing smoke with only 29k on it... sounds like previous owner has used "stop smoke" or similar before selling the car!
have always used Magnatec in ours without problems, just pay a few bucks more and get a Hyundai oil filter, makes a huge difference.
have you done a full service on it or are you just "topping up" ? seems like it needs a good service.

You don't say how old the vehicle is. It may have been sitting around for quite a while unused.

Maybe it is time to have a good mechanic go over the vehicle. It may also pay to put a good flushing oil through the engine and change all the filters. Be guided by your mechanic. Don't forget to even change the cabin air filter which is located behind the glove box and forms part of the heater/air con assembly.

cheers for your replies.
don't think the previous owner has used stop smoke, more likely she didn't have it serviced at all.
not really willing to use engine flush and he like as that make things worse.
it's a 2009 model so 5 years of not having it serviced can kill an engine real quick.
it's fine ones that minute of smoke has cleared and won't do it again when you start it the next day...
it's up for it's big 45k service and I am a (suziki tech) mechanic so will do all that myself so it getz done properly.
see what happens after that.
will take the rocker cover off to check the pcv and clogging up of the channels as I had a similar problem witht my vitara blowing smoke.
thanks all, will let yous know what ill find doing the service.
