if you checked it when engine is cool/cold on level ground and it is 1 inch over full it is WWAAAYYYY overfull.... take it back to the garage and get them to drain some out!
Oil level should only be checked when engine is cool/cold, and sump should never be over full mark.

Key words here: Level Ground. Important to check the oil when it has had time to settle. And make sure that dipstick is wiped clean prior to reinserting to draw out for a true reading. Personally, one inch above the "Full" mark is a bit more oil than I would be comfortable with. I would visit the garage just to have them look at it and give it a pass/fail opinion. That way the burden is upon them should a problem arise as a result of extra oil being inside the engine. You don't want that oil foaming and the pump cavitating. But have it looked after as soon as you can.

By "garage," did you mean an independent garage or the dealer's service department?

It would be presumptuous for me to tell you how to handle your business. But I'll do like my wife does :)wink2:) around the house and tell you anyway, my friend. It's always a good idea to check your levels and do a quick walk around after having these services performed. Do it before you leave the premises. If all looks good, no problem. If you find something amiss? You're already there!

I prefer that sump level be on "F" with all the trapped oil trapped and coating interior of engine/cylinder head to run back.. then after sitting overnight, the mis-placed oil will collect..
