Hi.. Getz is a 2005 1.3 owned from new with 77000 miles on the clock. About 18 months ago the engine management light came on, I did an ECU reset and it stayed off for a few months. It would then come on every now and then.
Over the last 6 months the car has started to stutter / misfire. This has got increasingly worse and the engine management light is now flashing.
I will start with the basics ie check / replace plugs and HT leads however is there a way of reading the error codes without diagnostic equipment as with a Corsa and the brake pedal test ?
Cheers, being a sunday not really in a position to do much. I have however ordered an OBD reader that should turn up later in the week as I figure its probably handy to have one with a house full of cars!
This morning I did a soft reset of the ECU and the engine management light has since remained off. On checking the plugs / leads, No 2 lead left half of its 'innards' on the plug as I removed it, in other words fell to pieces. Im hoping this is the problem as the symptoms of it ' missing under load' seem to point towards an ignition fault.
Obviously need new leads now and the plugs were changed 20,000 miles ago so likewise new plugs anyway, so a visit to Eurocar parts tomorrow and will update. If no joy will post fault codes when I get the reader.
Okay, another update. Engine management light has remained off and the car is running fine. However the OBD reader turned up today and is giving me an error code of P0038, heater control.
Now I understand that this is something to do with an oxygen sensor down near the cat. This sensor was replaced with the exhaust about six months ago. Should I return the car to the garage as the parts are on warranty? If not does it drastically effect the running of the vehicle ?
Any help appreciated..cheers ?
