I am driving a Getz 1.4 2006. For the last a few weeks i am hearing a strange sound from the front like "vuuuuu" while the up-down movement (especially down movement) of the shock absorbers and springs. i renewed the very-old shock absorbers with brand new ones (Monroe) but the sound remains. the sound is like a speeding up fan. it goes after the shock absorbers get idle position but i hear it everytime the front move towards the ground. i hope i could explain my problem.

what might be the cause for it?

Hi

you could consider this beeing a electrical fault ?
my argumentation:
When the front presses downward there is a lose connector/wire that sends it signal to the ECU :"start the fan , I'm a bit hot".
Check your water tempereature instrument , does the engine run very hot?

Have you tried to force the symptoms at stand-still.( start the engine, let it run for 5 min to warm up, push front end down. If the radiator fan starts going you could have a sensor fault/wiring harness fault. (Check the water temp sensor, located near the dipstick). You would also be able to see if it's actually the radioator-fan. The other suspected fan is the heater-matrix fan. Try turning the heater completely off while driving, If the sounds disappear you have at least found your culprit... But it's is fiddly to work there..

You could also consider the generator/water-pump/Air-condition-pump belts. (right hand side of engine, when facing forward). check tension of these.. push the middle of belt with a finger or two , they should flex 10-15 mm . At least not totally slack.

Bearings gone bad would be louder at either left or right turns, with a more grinding noise. If the bearing is wery bad the appropiate wheel would have more "drag" , this could be checked by driving at 40 km /t at a straight , letting go of the stearing-wheel. (Not folding your hands in the lap , be ready to catch it... ) if the car starts to stear against either right or left , yuu have more drag at that side. Try a full lock turn at a empty parking lot , to hear for the "wheel-bearing" noise. If you have a knockin sound the CSV-joints could also be faulty.

good luck ..!
