Hi,
I'm new to the forum having just bought an 03 Getz for my kids to learn to drive in. I only received one key with the car and it is not a push button key fob but I'm told there is a chip inside it!!. The key seems to open the central locking by turning it in the lock. My question is, can I just have a duplicate key cut or does the chip do something?
Thanks
Nick

If the key has an actual chip, aka transponder, just getting a key cut will allow you to unlock the car, but it will not start.

What you can do is have Home Depot cut you a key for $3. If they say no because you have a chip insist you don't care it's just a backup key to unlock doors.

Then try and use it to start the car. If it doesn't work, you have a key to unlock the doors if you lock the main key in the car. And you also know you're going to need a more expensive key now. Lol

Oh, boy! ^^^ What he said! Most key cutting stations have a device that can tell you if there is a chip inside. I know Lowe's does.
