Getz 1.1 Vibration at low revs and stiff 5th gear

Hi,

I am a new owner of a 56 plate Getz 1.1.

The car seems great so far however I have noticed a couple of things.

When I am in 3rd or 4th and reving up from low revs (1.5k) at Betweeen around 1.8K revs and 2K revs the car will vibrate quite alot.

Note sure if it is related but 5th gear can be quite stiff when trying to change down from 5th to 4th.

Finally sometimes the car will not go into reverse but when you release the clutch and try again it will go in ok, although I did read that this was a normal thing to happen on some cars.

If anyone has any advice on the above it would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

HI, I have had a look over the engine mounts and they seem to be ok. What is it exactly I am looking for with regards to them being faulty? IS there a way to test them etc?

Do you think the Engine mount problem could possibly affect the stiff 5th gear issue. I have noticed that if I pull out of 5th gear slowly it will come out without much force, it just takes some time.

I also found out that if you coast to a stop in 5th gear it is very very hard to get it out of 5th gear and needs some force (I wont be doing that again!)

Thanks

I am still having this issue around getting stuck in 5th Gear with the car if anyone has any ideas what could cause it?

I let the car go into 5th, came to a stop and turned the engine off and the car was still stiff to get out of gear. I thought this would eliminate the clutch being and issue. You can get it out of 5th but have to wiggle it around for about 10 seconds. If you then put it back into 5th it will go in and out of gear fine as though the gears are now lined up ok or something??

Could it be the 5th gear syncro thats playing up? That is what a firend suggested.

Thanks

Hi,

THought I would just give an update on this incase someone has a simular issue in the future.

I took the car to a Gearbox specalist and it is now repaired. I was told the following items were faulty:

5th Gear hub
Blocker PLates
Syncro

They have been repaired / fixed (Just the 5th gear, not the whole gear box) and cost about £400 including labour. Luckly I still had warranty on the car and this covered £350 of the cost :)

I still have the vibration issue so they two were not connected and I suspect this is a faulty engine mount as already suggested.

Thanks
