Is synthetic oil required for the 2015 Genesis 3.8L engne

I'm hoping someone here can tell me if synthetic oil is required for maintenance of the new 2015 Genesis 3.8L. I just leased one yesterday and I now think I was ripped off by the finance manager who told me that it required synthetic oil and therefore I would benefit from purchasing a prepaid maintenance package because of the cost of synthetic oil changes. To me the owners manual isn't clear/I don't understand their jagon. I also checked the quaker state website and they report that Advanced Durability 5W-30 meets hyundai's requirments and this is NOT a synthetic oil.

Thanks in advance for your replys!

No it's not required...If you plan on keeping your Genesis after the lease ends then Syn. oil would be a good choice.

I use synthetic oil in my Genny. I use Mobil 1 and I change it at 7500 miles. But it’s not required

Synthetic oil is not required for the 3.8 Genesis. In fact, the owner's manual makes no recommendation at all regarding conventional or synthetic oil. The service manager at my dealership even stated that Hyundai does not recommend synthetic oil for any of their cars! Even a call to Hyundai required 10 or 15 minutes for the agent to research the question. The response was that any oil that meets the standards stated in the manual are acceptable. Further internet research brought up a press release from Hyundai dated February 28, 2014 stating that a partnership between Hyundai and Quaker State (Shell, Pennzoil & Quaker State) makes their full range of products--including synthetic--appropriate for Hyundai vehicles. I am giving a copy to my dealer to see what they say. I would like to use synthetic and believe that the dealer would, too as the dollar margin should be higher than using conventional oil.
