I own a 2007 Santa Fe 3.3, and a 2014 Sonata GLS 2.4. I have been using Amsoil Signature Series 5w20, and Wix filter on the Santa Fe since it was new,(70k now). I just finished with the last freebie from the dealer on the Sonata. I am now going to switch to synthetic. I like Amsoil, but it is expensive, especially the shipping and handling. My question is: is it worth the extra expense to stick with Amsoil. I am thinking of using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. My local Walmart sells 5qt bottles for $25.17. I don't know if the Wix filter from Amsoil is made any differently than the ones I can buy locally. I also don't know if there is a filter comparable to the Amsoil EA series. The bottom line is: I plan on keeping both of these cars for a long time. I just don't know if I will benefit that much from the extra expense of the Amsoil products. Would love input from anyone who has knowledge of this. Thanks.

I like Royal Purple which I can get at a good price on Amazon. However, the more research I do, the more I believe that I should just be using whatever brand name synthetic is on sale for my daily driver. IMO, more important that brand of oil is to regularly change the oil and use a good quality filter. Wix is a good filter regardless of whether or not you buy it from the Amsoil dealer.

There's a number threads on oil and filters if you want more info. Here's one you might want to check out: http://www.hyundai-forums.com/sonata-yf-turbo/133523-oil-filter.html

As you plan to keep the cars for a long time, check eBay for multipacks packs of OEM filters. I believe the OEM is best as it's engineered for the engine and buying somewhat bulk will bring the price in line with aftermarket. Crush washers are often included as well (spin-on type filter only of course)

Also, consider replacing the drain valve with a Fumoto valve. Makes the DIY oil change less messy. I use WalMart's house brand of full synthetic (~$17.50/5 quarts) and change more frequently (every 5-6K kms)

Fumoto Valve | Qwik Valve™
