Does anyone know who actually makes the maps that go in the Sonata? I was chatting with someone at MapnSoft yesterday to try and find out what the differences might be between V7 that was just released and V8 which is slated for the fall. He told me he couldn't tell me that, and to contact Hyundai support. Is that the correct avenue?
Do you think it would be beneficial to wait for V8 and an extra $100? I am currently on version USA03.07.06, so I'm pretty far behind. BTW I would love it to look like that system in the Grandeur, you think there is any chance of V8 looking like that?
Mine is scheduled for a Tuesday delivery, so hopefully I'll know soon. I currently have V3, so I'm interested to see the differences. I'll post as soon as I get it loaded.
I just got the update and installed it. It took about 40 minutes for the update to install. I was on map version 2.11.13. After the update, I'm on map version 05.09.01. I thought since this update was called "V7" and "7U03" that my map version would be version 7something, but nope. I called Mapnsoft and they told me that what I got is the most current version, and even though I ordered V7, that doesn't mean the maps are Version 7. That sounds fishy to me, but ok. If someone else gets V7, can you please go in and check your map version and let me know what version you have after the update? Thanks.
The update is definitely different from my previous version...more of a 3D look than a flat look if that makes sense.
I'll say this--don't pay a dealer to install it...it's easy as heck to install.
Just a quick follow-up to my post above. The way the version number was explained to me was to not associate the "V7" with meaning the maps will be numbered with a 7. I was told the V# is just a sequential way of numbering the software updates and doesn't mean the maps are "version 7".

Yep, had to leave the car on the whole time. The whole time during the update there was a big message on the screen warning to not shut it off during the update/install. So far I only drove a very short distance in town with it, so I haven't used it much. But here is a quick very basic comparison of the difference in look so you can see a little bit of the difference. Sorry, these pictures don't show much..I'll try to get some better pictures actually out on the road in the next few days.
I didn't start my car at all, just put it in ACC mode. I checked on it after 15 minutes or so to make sure it hadn't gone to sleep, but it never did. It took about 45 minutes to finish.
I've installed V7 and have noticed a few changes to the phone interface, allowing favorite numbers to be stored. I had the speed limits displayed on V5, so they should be on V7 too.
The map version after the update is USA.05.09.01.
I will test out things more and post any more changes I find.
I'm on the v5, and I can say that there was no warning there for speed limits.
Also, many highways simply don't have the info in the maps. I had my car for 6 months before I even had the speed limit indicator show up on the screen.
i still cant make up my mind if this is worth the 100 dollars... when i can get up to the minute info on my phone.. grrr.. if it looked prettier and had a better UI, I would.. but it seems like the UI is the same and the map layout is the same.. that is a big let down.. More 3d would have been nice
I would say the UI is basically the same as what I had before (which I'm pretty sure is the same as what you have now BiGMERF). One small change I saw was a little star that is basically an icon to click that then lists your favorites. You can customize what is listed there from several choices such as a certain destination, the button to cancel the route, etc. Beyond that, I haven't yet found much in regards to changes....well, other than it looks a little better and has roads listed that are in my neighborhood that weren't listed before....which I guess is the real purpose of a map update
It looks like if Hyundai wants to keep their reputation going up they might want to cut ties with Mapnsoft. Who is watching the store with such a screwed up system? I like version 5 very well except for the fact that it doesn't display all posted speed limits, GPS Speed and can't see the outside temp anymore without touching some button. This is definitely a do not buy $99 special unless you are coming from V4.
Question for the Canadians out there .... how have you ordered a map update from the MapnSoft site? It only allows for the country of USA and only the US states?? Does that mean I would have to get it shipped to someone down there and then fwd to myself?
I am from Canada and ordered but I need the files as the USB i shipped to someone in the states and won't see it for a bit. Can anyone upload the files for me to download. Will save me shipping costs and a lot of time. Hyundai's update system in canada is screwed up.
Does the upgrade allow the user to directly enter GPS coordinates?
I think that option may have come and gone in prior versions -- not included in my 2013 Sonata but it took several calls to Hyundai customer support before anyone figured that out.
You can see a display of your current GPS coordinates on the setup info page, but I don't see any way to set a destination using them.
Has anyone gone to there dealer service dept. to get the map update and if so do you have the tsb update.
I was at my dealer today for oil change and tire rotation and asked if they had the nav update. They said they didn't have it yet and that they couldn't find the update tsb.
I have a 2011 built in April of 2010 with whatever came with it. I read that the new update has taken away the outside temp. Is this true? I would like to update but do not want to do away with my outside temp.
Is there a way to correlate the Map version displayed on screen to what Mapnsoft calls V5, V7, etc? I asked Mapnsoft and after a week they simply said they are shipping V7. I got a second Hyundai - a preowned '13 Elantra Coupe SE and it had the touchscreen changed out and I'm trying to determine what version is in it. The listed Map version is 4.04.015. What Mapnsoft version does that correlate to - V4? V5? Based on the interface and comparing to my Sonata which I upgraded to V5 last year I'm thinking this is V4?
Please do. I just ordered mine yesterday hopefully I get it by weekend.
