I am not sure it ever locked now. I lock the car from the key fob, or from the door buttons, and everything works as should. Except the rear hatch does not lock. I have read the manual looking for some setting i have missed. But it does not lock no matter what i do. Am i missing something?

woops...nevermind, on a hunch i tried something .

Its the proximity key...if you are holding it in your pocket the hatch will open. But once the key is moved away from the vehicle the hatch will not open.

So i guess this can be added to thinks i didn't know about my hyundai.

I am not sure if that is some kind of safety feature or not. None of the other doors open when the key is close by, just the hatch.

Imagine this scenario:

Walking up to the car with full-ish hands, and you want to open the hatch. If it didn't just open with the key nearby, you'd have to go to one of the front doors to unlock it first. Not too convenient, which is the whole point of the proximity key. I'm thinking since it's an electronic release, it never really locks just won't release without the key.

It's simple. The door would all unlock (click) as you walk nearby the car, even if your just walking by in your driveway. The door handle is a mechanical handle which require a button. The hatch has no mechanical handle, it's actually a button. So it's basically the same system.
Ford cars have a sensor that you can put your foot underneat to open the hatch.

Hm.. your guys set up seems different to mine. If I walk past the car with the fob in my pocket and the cars locked the only thing that happens is the welcome function (Mirrors unfold and puddle/handle lights illuminate). I have to actually press either of the front doors button to unlock all the doors, or if I need to access the hatch then press the button under it to open it. Reading the posts above, it sounds like the car physically unlocks its self whenever you walk near it? Is this an American thing?
