Hi Folks,
New member! Pick up my 3dr 1.4 Comfort in Black this evening! Can't wait... Metallica's "One - Live" from S&M is going to break in the sound system... \m/
I have read reports of members using USB pen drives as opposed to iPods with the USB connectivity, but no reports of manufacturers or specifications. Could you post your experiences? Should I stick with a tried and proven 4GB stick, or buy a 32GB drive and hope for the best? Are Kingston better than SanDisk? Etc etc.
Some owner advice would be much appreciated!

Hi,
This week we picked up our new i20 editions 3 door - well pleased with it, the seats are fantastic.
However, a few problems, firstly, no insurance company recognised there was a 3 door version of the editions & had to insure it as a 5 door with the insurance company making a note that it is in fact a 3 door! Anyone come across this before?
Secondly, when we were picking it up, it had a stain in the roof liner - they got their cleaner & he cleaned it off.
Then, when we got home, we noticed a small scratch on the dash, right in front of the steering wheel. We tried to wipe it, but it's still there & now we know about it, it is really noticeable. This is our first brand new car & want everything, well new - but at the same time it seems a bit petty to return it & what could they do about it? I know there are a few professional companies that would do it, but the local dealer?
I think we'll bit the bullet & take it for them to have a look at, but like I say, it seems a bit petty, but we paid a lot of money for a brand new car.

Hi,
My father has just bought an i20 which he loves.
I am thinking of getting him a simple to use mp3 player. He said he can see a 'hole with aux written next to it. lol
Im too far away to go and have a look but can anyone tell me if there should also be a USB slot or is it missing on this model?
He tried a neighbours mp3 player in the socket using a 3.5mm male-male lead and presses aux on the radio but it came up 'no media' on the radio display though there were songs on it playing as he unplugged the mp3 player and plugged in the headphones
thanks i advance.

Im planning to upgrade my music in my blue i20. A simple upgrade for now since im not satisfied with the factory 6 speakers sound:
will purchase a set of 6x9, a 4 channel amp and 12 inch sub to link up with the factory fitted headunit (I still want the steering control functionality).
Later will install a car pc and a more professional music setup.
Anybody out there with some cool ice in their i20s? Would like to hear your views and see your setup.
watch this space for updates about my setup.

I just bought my Hyundai i20 last Friday and I must say I am very happy with it. Ride is peppy and grip is solid. Interior is very smart too.
I just have one curiosity/ slight concern. I noticed that on the mudguard just between the front and rear wheels below the rear door is a 15cm x 10cm square 'sticker' of black colour hardly noticeably from the rest of the car's body if not after a good look.
I wondered whether this is a normal protection against any gravel etc hitting the car's body while driving (as the salesman said) or else there is anything they might be covering (in which case it would demand further assesment).
Just two final notes. My car is a black three door comfort version and this 'sticker' can be found on both the left and right side - identical in appearance and position.
Look forward to your valuable assistance.

Hi guys,
I am new to the forum.
I was interested to comapare my average fuel usage with other members.
Thought may be a good idea to collate information from all i20 users.
Official VCA fuel data is given below.
1.2 Petrol
44.1 62.8 54.3
1.4 Petrol
39.2 60.1 50.4
1.4 CRDi (57Kw)
51.4 74.3 64.2
1.4 CRDi (66Kw)
51.4 72.4 62.8
Points to note:
Source of fuel can vary the results.
Extra Weight inside car can vary the results.
Driving style can vary the results.
\summer\winter can vary the results.
My car has done 2000 miles.
Hyundai i20 5dr Classic 1.2 RED.
Total fuel used= 200 litres.
Average Milage = 10 miles/litre (45.4 mpg)
Best Milage = 450 miles on 42 litres.
I would appreciate if other users posted their figures for comaprison.
Thanks

As small Hyundai's appear to be popular at the moment and dealers have waiting lists do you think it is worth trying to get something off the list price?

I´ve just bought a tuning kit from Promotech.
According to them, the hp should be up 30hp to 145, and the torque up to 310 nm.
And it should consume less fuel.
Sure, and i´m Superman.
But it´s true
The car has more power, and it consumes less fuel.
Atleast at a steady speed of 120km/h on the highway.
How is it possible to tune a car like that???

Just upgraded my i20 classic on happy returns
One thing I've noticed though is the handbrake travel is much longer than my previous i20, the old one was 6 clicks, the new one is 8-9 clicks. It may be because the new model has disc brakes as opposed to drums on the older model. I was just wondering what the travel's like on other members i20's?
The only other small winge is my wife's shin does slightly touch the dashboard when pressing the clutch, as mentioned in a previous thread, wasn't a problem on the 2009 model.

Hi guys,
I fitted a H4 HID kit in our I20 over Christmas, stupidly not realising it needs a Hi Lo kit!!
Anyways we have low beam, but no high beam.
I ordered the Hi/Lo bulbs and they've been sat on my desk for almost 2 months now. Just not had a chance or decent enough weather here in the UK (Snowing yesterday even) to get round to fitting them.
Looking at the bulbs however, it looks like I might need to remove the headlights as access especially on the nearside is severly restricted due to the battery, airbox and fusebox - I cut my hands just putting the regular H4's in.
I think I'll need to remove the headlights but just wanted some opinions from those of you that might have already fitted a Hi/Lo kit to this car..
Is removing headlights necessary? And if so, what is the easiest way to remove them?
I know there are bolts on the top, but will the bumper need to come off to get to any other bolts?
Please help - hoping to tackle this job on the weekend, and if I do, I'll take some pics and make a How To for you all..
Cheers

EPS Electronic power steering warning light.
Had my I20 13 days now (180 miles on the clock).
Last night EPS light came on and all power assistance to steering was lost.
Pretty scary!!!
I was able to stop after a half mile or so. Stop / started the engine and all was well.
Car booked into the dealer for Saturday. Hopefully they can find some diagnostic’s and fix
Just thought I’d share. Hopefully, this will not become a common theme.

Just taken delivery of my shiney new i20 and wow! What a refreshing change to my lumbering old Mondeo.
Anyway, I went for the basic spec model that came with steel wheels with wheel trims (as opposed to the alloys), and I rather fancy swapping the wheel trims for something that I don't mind getting scuffed, thus keeping the originals pristine for when I eventually sell her on. Trouble is, I can't seem to remove the original wheel trims! I can unclip the outer rim, but the hub won't shift...
Silly question: Are the chrome nuts a part of the wheel trim, or are they the actual nuts holding the wheel on? In other words, do I have to remove the nuts to replace a wheel trim? Or are the trims just stiff and need a bit more 'encouragement' to remove?
Hope someone can help me before I break something.

Hi i20 owners and potential owners.
Just thought I would advise whats becoming an issue with the otherwise fantastic little Hyundai i20.
On the forum www.hyundaiownersclub.co.uk it has been reported that a 5'4" female driver has been having problems when using the clutch on her new i20 diesel- she has adjusted her seat position and the steering wheel so that it is in an ideal position for driving but she has found that as she depresses the clutch pedal her left leg (well her shin) comes into contact with a piece of hard plastic put there by the manufacturers to hide wires and some other essential parts.
Now this young lady is an advanced driver and she found that by taking her seat back another click this left her unable to push the pedal down fully and therefore gave her no proper control of the clutch as it was not fully depressed. So she and her Father approached Hyundai to inform them of this potentially body damaging part on their 5 star Ncap approved i20.
I took a look at the euroncap results on the i20 here
http://www.euroncap.com/results/hyundai/i20/359.aspx and noted that in their assessment euroncaps first comments are
Adult occupant
"The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. Stiff structures in the dashboard presented a potential hazard to the femurs of the driver and passenger."
Now surely Hyundai MUST have read this (If they haven't already maybe they will now)but they actually told this young lady and her father that they ought to have seen it before they bought it, further requests for assistance to Hyundai Technical Services has left them feeling that they should not have bothered calling Hyundai as they lacked any interest at all.
These buyers are perfectly happy with the i20-It does everything the owner wanted and is by their own words a fantastic little car that covers the miles just sipping fuel BUT her shin gets scraped every time she depresses the clutch pedal and only wants Hyundai to perhaps reduce this board by a couple of inches to prevent this from happening.
I can confirm that other short women have also commented on this fault. As the vehicle has been purchased by mainly females they are the ones being affected by this problem- Any menfolk usually are taller and as was stated earlier if the seat goes back further this doesn't happen.
However it is still a minus point with euroncap although they still gave the vehicle a 5 star rating- perhaps they should rescind this or alter it to a 4 star rating until Hyundai do the proper thing and resolve this as quickly as possible.
For information a disabled driver vehicle specialist has looked at the problem and agreed with our young advanced driver that this could be quite a serious problem if there was an accident and he thought that a small modification of the part could be made to correct the problem.
This of course has cost implications (about £80 for 2 hours work)and then brings up the question of who should pay for it the customer or Hyundai and now you have read this perhaps you too can make up your own mind re this issue.
You maybe having a similar problem and felt you were mistaken or being silly and had better say nothing about it in case you were ignored or not believed. This is now the time for you to stand up shout about it and be counted after all if you own an i20 and don't want to break your leg in an accident then something must be done and soon.
I think I had better tell the guy on the forum that I have posted this here for all to see but I felt this is a serious issue and everyone should know and this forum is one of the best places to make these issues obtain a resolution- It was so in 2004/05 with an issue on the Tucson and we finally got Hyundai to act due to the impact of the mail they had with reference a problem with that vehicle.
The same can apply here the more people are affected and take issue with Hyundai the quicker their response to complaint.
Thank You
Itza

We have a problem with the rear door on the i20. You unlock the car, pull the rear door handle from the outside and nothing happens! Pull the handle again and it opens!
This only happens with 1 door. Any ideas before it goes back to the dealers?

As title really - does the Hyundai Happy Returns scheme exist on the i20?
I bought one on the scrappage scheme and and it delivered in January. If I can trade it in for a brand new i20 next December for about £600, I would be keen to do so. Unfortunately I can't find ANY mention at all of this scheme on the Hyundai web-site.
In fact, does the Hyundai Happy Returns scheme exist on any Hyundai car?

Had my car 3 months now and just checked all the tyre pressures, yeah lazy I know.
Offside pair 33 psi (as per the book), nearside 34 psi (dropped them to 33 psi) and spare 38 psi. The skinny spare should be 60 psi, seems bloody hard to me but there you are, so I'll top it up next time I'm at the garage.
3 months, 3200 miles, not one single problem, lots of enjoyment driving it = one happy bunny!

after looking at various manufactures offerings under the scrappage scheme I settled for an i20 1.2 comfort 2010 my. I placed an order on monday 13th july. I was told there was 10 unallocated to customers on a ship that docked in 2 to three days the predicted collection date was 7th August. on wednesday 22nd july the dealer rang me to say it had arrived at the garage and I collected it, prepped and taxed on friday 24th July.
incredible. Very pleased with the car apart from the cheap and nasty gear knob?
garage was doncaster hyundai
Cheap and nasty gear knob now replaced with momo offering as shown in the accessory book. it makes the interior look that bit different but at a price? it's well made and fits and is a big improvement on the std nasty thing.

Hi
Went to fill up today but cannot get the filler cap panel to open using the remote cable pull from inside the car, i suspect the cable has stretched or maybe something is misaligned.
Does anyone know of this problem or more importantly how to to fix it?
Where is the best place to look for adjustment,is it at the cable pull inside the car?
Dont want to have to travel to the dealer as yet,so want to have a look first.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

I ordered my i20 with side mouldings fitted, when it was delivered last month one of the mouldings wasn’t straight so I arranged to bring it back another day. Brought it back and it was duly done....but still wasn’t straight! Brought it back yet again and this time it was fine.
Then I got a letter from plod, my car had been clocked at 55mph in a 40mph limit. It was the time that got me, not a time I’m usually out in my car. I scratched my head about it for a few days, removed the splinters from my fingers and realised that I was sitting in the dealer’s showroom at that time and date, waiting for the moulding to be done!
I knew they had taken my car to a body shop elsewhere in the town to be done so I contacted them to confirm that the car was indeed there at that time and date, then tackled the dealer. The Police had confirmed that the picture clearly showed the driver so there could be no argument, and there wasn’t. They gave me the drivers name and address which I duly passed on to plod, and I’ve heard no more about it.
I was advised that the owner of the dealership should know about it so I tried to contact him, waited a couple of weeks for the promised return phone call but it never came. A call to Hyundai themselves resulted in a swift call back from the owner!
Now I was angry about 2 things, the first being the way they treated my car and the second was that where the mobile camera was the guy KNEW he’d been nicked but kept quiet, hoping I wouldn’t twig and so carry the can. The owner tried to play it down and I got the impression that he thought generally it was a big deal.
Needless to say I won’t be using the services of that dealer ever again, more so that since this incident they have closed that branch, opened what is basically a shop and drop off and collection point where you take the car there, THEY drive it to another branch (about 20 miles away) repair/service it then drive it back again, using your fuel!
The lesson is that you should make a note of times and dates whenever anyone else is driving your car and think twice about trusting your dealer....just in case.

Hi All,
Long story this so bear with me!
So for the first time in my life i took the plunge and bought a brand spanking new car last year. i got a shiny new i20 1.4 in June with the scrappage scheme. All fine and dandy, works like a dream etc etc.
3 weeks later, i come home from work to find that some scumbag has nicked the number plates, front and back. Ring the police and the Dvla, who tell me they'll put the license number on the central police database but there's a high chance i'll be stopped in the future and i'll get letters from the Dvla about speeding fines i've incurred/not paying at petrol stations, the normal things that scumbags who nick number plates use the stolen plates for.
As time went by i didn't get stopped once and never received letters from the Dvla so i thought i'd got off lightly. 2 months later, my parking/brake light kept flashing randomly every time i was driving, checked the brake fluid and seemed to be fine but the light kept coming on for longer and longer. Took it back to the dealers and after a good half hour look around they told me the master brake cylinder needed replacing. I was honestly quite shocked as i didn't expect a new car to have such a major issue after 2 months! Anyway they fixed it under warranty so no problem.
Come boxing day, driving back from my girlfriends parents, 11pm at night, we're at some lights waiting to turn right. A black cab pulls up behind us, but then as the lights turn green to go straight on only, he obviously thinks it's green to turn right as well and slams into the back of us. The rear bumper's cracked, number plate lights are all broken and hanging off. Upshot of that was a quote of £676 to get it fixed which was going through our insurance...which leads us upto last week when again i came home but this time to find we'd been burgled!
It just happened to be the occasion that my girlfriend had left her set of car keys at home and you guessed it they nicked the car...absolutely gutted. really couldn't believe my luck. I was honestly hoping the police wouldn't find the car and i could claim on the insurance. They eventually found it yesterday and it's currenly sitting in a car pound in Enfield.
Which kind of leads me to my question, if - as i'm starting to believe - me and that car just don't get on and i want to sell it, am i going to have issues or have to knock 1k maybe more off the value to sell it now it's going to be tarred with the 'stolen recovered' tag?
Maybe i should just move to a nicer area.

Last week my wife phoned Hyundai uk about the £50 M&S vouchers they were sending out, asking where ours were as we had to wait 6 months before taking delivery of my i20.
I have just taken a phone call from a lady in their call centre letting me know that we will NOT be getting any vouchers as the people who got them were chosen at random & also informed me that Hyundai customer services will not answer emails or phone calls - but did we want the address to write to for them to ignore that as well - another pr feau pas I believe as if foghorn leghorne the MD can come out in the press saying he wants to keep his customer base gained from the scrappage deal he has lost this one already - when I am in a position to change this car - IT WILL NOT BE FOR ANOTHER HYUNDAI - thank you, rant over !

Just had a letter this morning asking me to take my car to be checked
"Recently Hyundai identified that on some Hyundai i20 models it was possible for the throttle cable to come into contact with the main wiring loom, which could over a period of time cause damage to the loom. In such cases the fuse that protects the affected electrical circuit would blow, resulting in a failure of an electrical function."
It will take less than 20 minutes apparently and is of course free.
My model is a 3 door 1.2 bought in july 2009 Bristol UK
Any one else had this through?

Never really settled with my i20, due to reasons stated:-
Poor fuel economy (43mpg mixed), even though I'm a slow driver. No where near the 54 stated. Very disappointing!!
Hard suspension, little bumps, feel very big.
Low front bumper clearance.
Constant dash rattles (as from new).
Hate the aircon coming on automatically, when you just want heaters only.
Wheel trims, killer to clean.
Front windscreen (inside), always misting/freezing up.
Being hyper-critical, very boring gear knob on classic models.
Expensive main dealer servicing.
Sold my i20, now gone back to Vauxhall

Hi All
Some one has knocked the right front wing of my beloved i20 - the panel is a complete "right off"
I don't suppose anyone knows how much this would cost to replace? Is it worth getting it repaired by a main dealer?
Your help is appreciated

We took delivery of our I20 at the end of November. It had a slight dent some 15cm long and about 5 degrees from the horizontal on the passenger's side of the dash/facia. The dealer consulted Hyundai and a new dash was ordered and fitted last week. The new dash has a similar but slightly longer dent in the same position. The dealer is now suggesting this might be normal and related to the airbag. Does your dash have a dent or is it smooth?

while changing the dealer tax disc holder I found a crack at the bottom of my windscreen which probably was only noticed as it crossed the vin number, took it back to the dealers and they are ordering one under warranty.

Hy, i have an i20, and after only 50km my temperature gauge was/is stuck at 25.5C.
When i turn the knob left or right the temperature stays that way and you cannot change it..
I have an automatic AC ,everything other on that knob-the buttons Auto and OFF work, but the gauge is just stuck..
Everything else is working fine.
Can anyone please help me?
Thank you!

Even after just standing overnight all 4 disks have a light coating of rust on them, ok it comes off after braking a few times but just overnight? If I leave the car a few days the rust is progressively worse and often the pads are stuck to the disk. To free them I have to give it a little burst of power, resulting in a not very nice 'clunk' as they free up. Surely this will accelerate pad and disk wear?
Has anyone else had a similar problem or got a solution?

Hi Guys,
Just thought I'd share this news with you guys, The Hyundai i20 1.6 GLS is one of the Finalists in the 2010 SAGMJ / WESBANK CAR OF THE YEAR competion in South Africa. I think its great that this car finally gets recognized and not passed over like the Getz.
Hopefully, it can take the title. Here is a little quote from the article on the sponsors website:
"A vote consisting of the full members and a jury made up of 30 selected members of the SAGMJ have chosen the following eight finalists to partake in the 2010 SAGMJ / WesBank Car of the Year competition to compete for honours in the country's premier motoring event.
* Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4i Turbo Petrol
* Audi Q5 2.0 T S tronic
* Chevrolet Cruze 1.8 LS
* Hyundai i20 1.6 GLS
* Suzuki Alto 1.0 Litre GLS
* Toyota Prius 1.8 ECVT Advanced
* Volkswagen Golf VI 1.4 TSI 90 kW Comfortline
* Volvo XC60 3.0T Geartronic
South Africa's Car of the Year competition - sponsored for the past 25 years by wheels bank, WesBank, with additional support this year from Total, Hollard Insurance, Garmin and Varta - is unique in the world in that the victor is determined not by popular vote as in most countries, but by actual testing of the finalists to determine by what margins they meet criteria for COTY honours."

I picked my new i20 1.2 Comfort up on Monday, with just over half a tank of petrol. At that point the "miles to empty" showed about 215. When I got home I rest the trip to zero.
I've just driven up and down the A3 dual carriageway at different speeds, resetting the mpg trip at each speed. (62mph = 55 mpg, 70mph = 48mpg!). The last stretch was in 40mph roadworks. When I got home the mpg showed 56mpg; the fuel guage showed just over half full, but the miles-to-empty showed 177 (about 3-4 gallons ?).
Sorry if this is getting a bit boring, and I know that 60 miles (total) is really a bit early to judge these things, but I'd have expected the miles-to-empty figure to be based on the current mpg figure. Or is it that the fuel guage drops at a different rate above and below the half way marker?

Hi to all.
I have an i20 classic and in less than six months it has developed an engine fault. One of the engine cylinders is not firing and after three attempts over three months to repair it, changing the spark plugs and the coil, the dealer mechanic is still scratching his head. I am no mechanic but previous vehicle faults I have read about and experienced lead me to suspect that the electronic engine management control unit is defective.
However in the meantime I am expected to drive this car around despite massively reduced engine power (20mph on hills) and occasional cutting out while the dealer orders individual parts from Korea taking weeks at a time. No courtesy car is forthcoming, no concern expressed and my completely justified criticisms simply dismissed to the point that I have been told to take the car elsewhere if not satisfied.
The car will be returned to the dealer again tomorrow for a fourth attempt to repair it. I will not buy Hyundai again...not because the car has developed a fault but because the response from Hyundai dealer network under the much heralded manufacturer backed '5 year warranty' is inadequate, insulting to customers, effectively useless and totally unacceptable.
