Hi all
hoping my I20 comfort will be with me in the next few weeks, fingers crossed
just wondering how good the ipod connectivity is. can u cycle through the songs using the steering wheel controls etc rather than having to physically touch the ipod (not good when driving)
also do track names etc show up on the radio display?
thanks

after looking at various manufactures offerings under the scrappage scheme I settled for an i20 1.2 comfort 2010 my. I placed an order on monday 13th july. I was told there was 10 unallocated to customers on a ship that docked in 2 to three days the predicted collection date was 7th August. on wednesday 22nd july the dealer rang me to say it had arrived at the garage and I collected it, prepped and taxed on friday 24th July.
incredible. Very pleased with the car apart from the cheap and nasty gear knob?
garage was doncaster hyundai
Cheap and nasty gear knob now replaced with momo offering as shown in the accessory book. it makes the interior look that bit different but at a price? it's well made and fits and is a big improvement on the std nasty thing.

Hi guys,
I am new to the forum.
I was interested to comapare my average fuel usage with other members.
Thought may be a good idea to collate information from all i20 users.
Official VCA fuel data is given below.
1.2 Petrol
44.1 62.8 54.3
1.4 Petrol
39.2 60.1 50.4
1.4 CRDi (57Kw)
51.4 74.3 64.2
1.4 CRDi (66Kw)
51.4 72.4 62.8
Points to note:
Source of fuel can vary the results.
Extra Weight inside car can vary the results.
Driving style can vary the results.
\summer\winter can vary the results.
My car has done 2000 miles.
Hyundai i20 5dr Classic 1.2 RED.
Total fuel used= 200 litres.
Average Milage = 10 miles/litre (45.4 mpg)
Best Milage = 450 miles on 42 litres.
I would appreciate if other users posted their figures for comaprison.
Thanks

Got my i20 1.2 5-door last weekend and it's left me with a big grin on my face. Great drive, lotsa fun. All I can say to you guys with i20's still on order, stay cool..its definitly worth the wait! Now thinking of a mudflap set prior to the bad weather, the Hyundai ones look pretty good but are they easy to fit and actually do the job of protecting the car? There are some 'cheapies' on ebay but are the factory ones worth the extra £££?

Guys I have a Momo steering that was gifted to me.
Now the aftermarket steering adapter/hubs which come from 'BOSS' typically have a label H1 / H2/ or H3
Im not sure which to get. Also since my ride has the airbag config.
Would the steering adapter for the Getz match the i20?

Hi all.
Just took delivery of my new i20, 1.2 5 dr Classis today.
I'll start by listing a few things I like about the i20.
Good fuel economy.
Smooth gear change.
My favourite item, boot tool storage tray above spare wheel, under carpet. Cleverly thought out, in my opinion.
Sure there's plenty more

Keep em coming........

Hi there everyone
I am the new and proud owner of a 1.2 Comfort i20 in Diamond Black with the red trim interior. This is my and my partner's first brand new car and we both absolutely love it. In spite of most of the reviews I'd read of the i20 beforehand (which were pretty uniformly negative towards it's interior - cheap plastics, dull place to be, blah, blah, whine) I love the inside of the car. The one thing which is less than great is the gear knob, although I don't mind it as much now we've got the car as when we were viewing cars in the dealership. I'm still potentially interested in upgrading it though. Hyundai's UK website suggests that the gear knob upgrade is only for Classic models, which seems bizarre seeing as it's the same gear knob as in the Comfort.
Any advice on this and/or other gear knobs (bit of chrome and leather would be nice) which are suitable for the i20 would be gratefully received.
Thanks and happy motoring...
Long live the i20!

I am intending to buy a new i20 using the scrappage scheme.
As small Hyundai's appear to be popular at the moment and dealers have waiting lists do you think it is worth trying to get something off the list price?

Hi All, don't know if anyones noticed this problem with the handling of the i20
My I20 petrol is 16 days old, have clocked 1200kms, since beginning I've been
having a problem with 2 things
1) There's a knock sound from the right steering wheel assembly when the car goes over a rough patch of road, however not on standard bumps.
it seems as though suspension or the steering assembly is loose, its more prominent in case the clutch is pressed and then one goes over the rough patch.
the workshop did replace a spring in the steering assembly but the noise is still there.
2) The steering is a lil hard, as after manouvering a turn it does not fully comeback but takes noticable manual effort. also while driving on a straight road it does not stay stable, if one leaves the steering, the car start slightly turing to either direction and has to be brought back.
Over all a great car with amazing jazz built in. its just the above 2 issues are bothering..

Just spoke to someone that owns an i20. This may or may not be a common fault. Apparently if you press the cd eject button whilst ignition turned off. Fuse pops out of car fuse board, only happens when ignition turned off. If prob occurs, locate internal fuse board & push fuse back in. Think it's a yellow one.
I shall give it a try wnen I get my i20 (hopefully by end of Oct).

I am really enjoying my new i20, but have a question about the door locks.
When the car gets to about 25 mph the doors lock themselves, I dont mind this to much but would like the option to be able to turn this function off some times.
I can not find anything in the hand book on how to switch this on and off.
One other thing, the handbook is a bit brief about what the radio options unde setup are, some are obvious but I am still trying to work out what some of them mean.
Thanks in advance for any information.

Because of a low garage door I want to replace the supplied antenna with a shorter 'bee-sting' 23cm one.
However the latter has a 6mm thread while the i20 male thread is 5mm. It comes with a 5mm to 6mm adapter and the shop said I could remove the existing thread with pliers.
Has anyone done this? Is the existing meant to come out without damaging the seating? Once started the pliers would doubtless ruin the thread and I am a bit scared of that. Any advice appreciated.

My wife had the car to the dealers today. Its only a week old 2010 1.2 Comfort. It was only going to have the auto door locks switched on but whilst there I was informed that car was being recalled for a upgrade to the wiring. Took about half an hour, don't know what the problem was as wasn't told. Might be worth giving your dealers a ring.

I have an i20 CRDI, 3 months old, clocked 7000 kms. From day 1 I have been having problems with the alignment of the front wheels. When I accelerate, the steering becomes stiff and moves straight (normal) or sometimes slightly to the right, however, when I take my foot off the gas, the wheels start moving towards the left (even if the road is banked sloping to the right). The movement is subtle but on long drives, my arm starts to hurt.
Wheel alignment has been done 3 times within a span of 1 month despite road conditions being great, each time the alignment was off, tires have been rotated back to front, balanced. The problem does not seem to go away. The folks at hyundai have been very patient with me but have not been able to solve my problem.
If I am not mistaken, EPS in i20 works this way: The sensors detect the motion and torque of the steering column and a computer module applies assistive toque via a electric motor coupled directly to the steering column.
MY QUESTION: Can the Variable Assist Computer Module Program have a snag OR is it possible that the electric motor is NOT getting proper electric power for the steering to respond properly? Can anyone suggest what else I could check?
Thanks for reading

EPS Electronic power steering warning light.
Had my I20 13 days now (180 miles on the clock).
Last night EPS light came on and all power assistance to steering was lost.
Pretty scary!!!
I was able to stop after a half mile or so. Stop / started the engine and all was well.
Car booked into the dealer for Saturday. Hopefully they can find some diagnostic’s and fix
Just thought I’d share. Hopefully, this will not become a common theme.

Dear all,
I own an i20, that does not display the fuel consumption reading on the dash main screen. It only shows trip readings in km. I mean you can only use it to measure a certain distance in kilometers.
I want to ask you, since some i20 models show real-time fuel consumtion as well, is there any way to manually activate it somehow.
I am asking this since in my Opel Corsa car, there is a certain procedure you follow by pressing some buttons on the dash, that eventually lead you to a secret menu, that give you the ability to enable this feature.
Thank you.

I picked my new i20 1.2 Comfort up on Monday, with just over half a tank of petrol. At that point the "miles to empty" showed about 215. When I got home I rest the trip to zero.
I've just driven up and down the A3 dual carriageway at different speeds, resetting the mpg trip at each speed. (62mph = 55 mpg, 70mph = 48mpg!). The last stretch was in 40mph roadworks. When I got home the mpg showed 56mpg; the fuel guage showed just over half full, but the miles-to-empty showed 177 (about 3-4 gallons ?).
Sorry if this is getting a bit boring, and I know that 60 miles (total) is really a bit early to judge these things, but I'd have expected the miles-to-empty figure to be based on the current mpg figure. Or is it that the fuel guage drops at a different rate above and below the half way marker?

Hi
I ordered I20 diesel on 24th August - have been told delivery in Dec ( 4months +++???) but maybe Jan what with Christmas and New Year. Have no confidence for Jan delivery. Trapped with an old car due to be scapped and MOT due in Jan/ bad breaks - don,t want to spend money on it. I was originally told three month absolute maximum with more likely 6 - 8 weeks del date, also informed that the deal must go through in 4 months under scrappage rules - asked the dealer what happens if over and had no reply. Great way to start a 5 year relationship with a dealer/manufacturer. Mislead and trapped.

I've just picked up my new i20 Comfort 1.2 today; only driven it about 10 m8les from dealer, then spent about 8 hours reading the documentation! Still, it seems very nice.
One thing which surprised me - it can read a CD of WMA music files, as well as MP3 - so I needn't have replaced WMP9 with WMP11, and installed itunes! Then when I put an MP3 CD I'd made earlier into the stereo unit, I'd assumed I'd be limited to purely sequential or to random. Instead, I found tha the current track title etc., was displayed, and that I could spin the ....thingy....knob to see and select any other tracks.....absolutely fantastic.
However, the thing I'm posting about is the RAC Breakdown cover. If you read the Hyundai website on this, the cover looks very basic. When you read the documentation with the car, it looks a lot better. For example, although it doesn't specifically mention "home start", it doesn't exclude it. However, unless I've misread it, it doesn't seem to cover car recovery to a UK address, and it definitely doesn't cover accident, vandalism or attempt at theft.
My cover with National Breakdown includes these, and has higher limits in some cases, for example £60pp/pn for a hotel instead of £30. Since my Nat Bre cover costs (vis the CSMA) about £55 a year, I'm tempted to keep it on at the same time as the RAC, though obviously to use the RAC cover first.
Anyone else faced this dilemma, and what have you done about it?

Hi all,
My first post.
Just ordered my i20 1.2 Classic, 5 dr. Will pick it up end of month.
Goodbye trusty Astra :-(
Came accross this engine tech info regarding the new 1.2 Hyundai engine
http://www.zercustoms.com/news/Hyundai-Kappa-Engine.htmlDoes the 1.2 engine have a cambelt or chain? Thinking about future maintenance. Have previously read it has a cam chain. Which would be good news regarding future maintenance.
Do those front seats get any softer?
Thanks.

I ordered an i20 on the 4th August, the dealership told me approx 6 weeks. It has now been 8 and all they have said to me is that the computer shows factory.
I decided to call Hyundai's head office, they have told me it is now being built and should be docking at the end of October and be in the dealerships at the beginning of November! This would take it to approx 12 weeks. If I was told this in the first place I may not have ordered one I'm not sure I can do anything now as this was done through the scrappage scheme. The dealership have not contacted me once in the last 8 weeks. It seems as if they don't care as they are selling more cars than ever throught the scrappage scheme.

My I20 developed an airbag fault a few weeks after delivery - the airbag light stayed on. Took it to the dealer and they said a loose connector had been found and fixed. A week later the same thing happened. Took it back and they said they would keep it for a couple of days to investigate. That was on 21 July! Since then they have told me there is a fault with the driver's seat airbag and that the whole seat has to be replaced at a cost (to someone - not me) of £2,500! It took 4 weeks for the new seat to arrive when they discovered it was the wrong colour. They expect another seat to take another 4 weeks to arrive. In the meantime they have given me use of a courtesy car but this is ridiculous. How can a major car manufacturer seriously hope to sell cars in volume in the UK without having a readily available stock of spare parts? What if you have an accident, how long would it take to get it back on the road? I'm lucky that the dealer has given me a replacement car - they don't have to according to the warranty conditions. I would not choose Hyundai again unless they can get the parts situation sorted.

I'm currently waiting for delivery of an i20 Comfort. I don't have an Ipod, but do have a very good Sony MP3 player, so I currently see no reason to change it.
Does the car come with a stereo 3.5 to 3.5 lead?
If not, what is the best length to buy? Amazon can supply 30cm, 50 cm and 1.2metres, and I can't remember how far it is from the socket to somewhere where the player can rest. (The dealer is a bit far away for me to pop down and have a look).
Can anyone with appropriate knowledge suggest a good make - there seem to be hundreds of them, with widely ranging prices.
From a previous post, it seems I can simply copy about 1500 songs to a 2GB memory stick and plug it in, then select random play; is this correct?
Many thanks for any replies.

I ordered my I20 comfort petrol in Sparkle Blue on 31st May in Blackpool and am still waiting. The dealers told me delivery should be mid July, then mid August, they have admitted they don't know much about how Hyundai work as they have not had the franchise very long and could only tell me my car is at sea. I rang Hyundai head office who said the dealer can find out the vessel the car is on from their screens and ring Tilbury to get a docking date. When I rang my dealer back to tell them this they managed to tell me the ship is docking on 14th September. It will then take a max of 14 days for registration, 5-7 days for delivery to dealer, so I am looking at October! Not impressed 5 months is not good enough, I have had to replace the exhaust on my car this week which will be scrapped when my Hyundai is finally delivered.

Guys,
I can't tell if this has been covered before, so apologies if it has - I couldn't find any reference to it in a search.
We've recently bought a new I20 CRDi Style - so it has the higher spec sound system. I want to fit a Nokia CK7W car kit but need some advice on:
Which telemute lead I need?
How to dismantle the dash to remove the integrated head unit?
Has anyone done this or a similar installation on the I20 yet?
I spoke to Autoleads in the UK and they don't know which lead fits yet, but they gave me a couple of options - both of which depend on me taking the headunit out to check what the plugs look like!!!
Any advice is appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi, I am a newbie to this site ..... came accross it by accident, it looks like a good'n so have joined. HELLO EVERYBODY!!!
I've traded my ancient Skoda Favorit on the scrappage for a new i20 Classic 5-door in red. Handover is set for this Saturday.

Points to watch out for please. I've seen the paint at the front needs watching and I guess i'll soon find out if I have a 'shin problem' when I depress the clutch but are there any other quirky little things I ought to keep my eyes open out for?
Your comments most welcome.

Whenever I fill the car up, I can never get more than about 30 litres to go in, although the fuel tank capacity is listed as 45 litres. When I'm just going backwards and forwards to work I usually wait until the light comes on before I pop to the petrol station. The gauge always show full afterwards. I can't figure out why this would be and the dealer was drawing a blank too. I wondered if anyone else had a similar problem.

Hi i20 owners and potential owners.
Just thought I would advise whats becoming an issue with the otherwise fantastic little Hyundai i20.
On the forum www.hyundaiownersclub.co.uk it has been reported that a 5'4" female driver has been having problems when using the clutch on her new i20 diesel- she has adjusted her seat position and the steering wheel so that it is in an ideal position for driving but she has found that as she depresses the clutch pedal her left leg (well her shin) comes into contact with a piece of hard plastic put there by the manufacturers to hide wires and some other essential parts.
Now this young lady is an advanced driver and she found that by taking her seat back another click this left her unable to push the pedal down fully and therefore gave her no proper control of the clutch as it was not fully depressed. So she and her Father approached Hyundai to inform them of this potentially body damaging part on their 5 star Ncap approved i20.
I took a look at the euroncap results on the i20 here
http://www.euroncap.com/results/hyundai/i20/359.aspx and noted that in their assessment euroncaps first comments are
Adult occupant
"The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. Stiff structures in the dashboard presented a potential hazard to the femurs of the driver and passenger."
Now surely Hyundai MUST have read this (If they haven't already maybe they will now)but they actually told this young lady and her father that they ought to have seen it before they bought it, further requests for assistance to Hyundai Technical Services has left them feeling that they should not have bothered calling Hyundai as they lacked any interest at all.
These buyers are perfectly happy with the i20-It does everything the owner wanted and is by their own words a fantastic little car that covers the miles just sipping fuel BUT her shin gets scraped every time she depresses the clutch pedal and only wants Hyundai to perhaps reduce this board by a couple of inches to prevent this from happening.
I can confirm that other short women have also commented on this fault. As the vehicle has been purchased by mainly females they are the ones being affected by this problem- Any menfolk usually are taller and as was stated earlier if the seat goes back further this doesn't happen.
However it is still a minus point with euroncap although they still gave the vehicle a 5 star rating- perhaps they should rescind this or alter it to a 4 star rating until Hyundai do the proper thing and resolve this as quickly as possible.
For information a disabled driver vehicle specialist has looked at the problem and agreed with our young advanced driver that this could be quite a serious problem if there was an accident and he thought that a small modification of the part could be made to correct the problem.
This of course has cost implications (about £80 for 2 hours work)and then brings up the question of who should pay for it the customer or Hyundai and now you have read this perhaps you too can make up your own mind re this issue.
You maybe having a similar problem and felt you were mistaken or being silly and had better say nothing about it in case you were ignored or not believed. This is now the time for you to stand up shout about it and be counted after all if you own an i20 and don't want to break your leg in an accident then something must be done and soon.
I think I had better tell the guy on the forum that I have posted this here for all to see but I felt this is a serious issue and everyone should know and this forum is one of the best places to make these issues obtain a resolution- It was so in 2004/05 with an issue on the Tucson and we finally got Hyundai to act due to the impact of the mail they had with reference a problem with that vehicle.
The same can apply here the more people are affected and take issue with Hyundai the quicker their response to complaint.
Thank You
Itza

Washed the car yesterday & noticed the front bumper isn't painted on one side in the wheel arch area, & has poor paint coverage on the other side. It's quite obvious now I've spotted it, can't see how I've missed it in the 10 weeks I've owned the car! I'm going to take it into the dealers next week, not sure if not noticing it for 10 weeks will be a problem? Anyone else had this problem?

Hi Folks,
Looking to testdrive a 5 door i20 this weekend as last weekend Mr Clark's salesman said they didn't do testdrives at weekend and only had 3 x 3 door i20s left. Hoping visibilty out of 5 door will be better.
Wondering if I should make the effort as looking at the posts I'm wondering if it's worth it. This'll be first new car and don't like sound of some of the problems you have been having.
Give me something to cling to here and tell me you think it's a great wee car! Please!
Thanks
Doug

Has anyone experienced problems with the accelerator of the i20 feeling sticky/jerky?
When I tried to maintain a rpm standing still I found it almost impossible to get to the rpm I was aiming at as I couldn't control the accelerator finely enough. The salesman advised me this was the same for all i20s.
If anyone could tell me their thoughts i would appreciate it as apart from this problem I think it's my ideal car!
Thankyou
