First of all, hello to everyone here. My name is Ian, and I am new to these forums and new to Hyundai. I just purchased a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0L and want to do some minor (and cheap) mods to get it as close to 300HP as possible... preferrably to the rear wheels. What is everyone's advice on doing this?
I've never owned a car with a turbo before, and don't know much about them. Is there a way to increase the boost on the stock turbo, i.e. by flashing the computer or changing the size of something to increase airflow? I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this stuff. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!

I'm new to this forum, but since I just picked up a new Genesis Coupe Grand Touring V6 model, I thought this forum would be pretty informative, which I can see it will be. While the car is even better than I expected, both looks and performance, I do have a nagging problem I'm looking for advice on. The headlights are the first Xenon lights I've experienced, and they are definitely different from what I'm used to. However, the right headlight was misadjusted much higher that the left one, so I took it to the dealer for adjustment. Now, I've got some strange overlap where the lights are bright to a point and then there's a dimmer area in front of that, in addition to the step up feature of the lights on the right. I was told this is so the lights shine higher on the sidewalk. All I know is that it still is far from correct. My other friends with these type of lights have a definite line of light from both headlights that are even, not staggered all over the place.
My question is, can I just adjust these myself, since the dealer already screwed it up once already? I assume there have to be "factory specs" for adjustment, not just a "guesstimate" approach, but I'm not sure the dealer can really do it any better than me. I haven't looked yet, but I guessing there must be some adjustment screws by the light assembly. Has anyone else had any issues like this, or know where to look for adjustment instructions? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Im Looking into becomming a vendor on this forum, but I would like to get a feel on what the outcome would be. I would be selling custom pre cut vinyl overlays such as roof overlays ,tail light overlays and etc. I’ve been building custom overlays for about 3 years now and I’m proud to say that we have serviced quite a few Genesis owners. I could have this ready to ship within a week after getting my sponsorship setup. I just wanted to get some feedback and any suggestions from the people on this forum before I finalize as a sponsor.
Thanks.
Daniel

Is anyone in the CA area familiar with this company ?
http://www.progressauto.com/news/16/ I'm seriously considering trading the Miata in the spring when the pricing for the car goes back up.

As promised, import car tuner GReddy debuted its X-Gen Street Genesis Coupe at the 2009 SEMA Show. Apart from the wild and wacky paint job (a SEMA necessity), the modified 2.0T model is the kind of car we'd like to have in the driveway.
The philosophy behind the build was to improve performance in all areas. GReddy calls this its "Total Tune-Up" theme. First up is what's under the hood, with a larger turbocharger and an intercooler setup that produces 350-hp and 320 ft-lbs of torque for a 0-60 mph time of under 6.0 seconds. The kit is fully available from Greddy and includes all the other components, like the downpipe, blow off valve, etc. GReddy also offers the sweet looking quad-exhaust system.
That exhaust fits nicely with the JP USA rear diffuser. The rest of the car's aerodynamics are also directly from JP USA.
In terms of improving performance in other areas, the GReddy Genesis Coupe gets a set of 19-inch Volk Racing G2 wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes R888 tires. And inside those lightweight rollers is a GReddy big bake upgrade.

Today I thought I would try pairing my laptop with the car over blue tooth, and it worked. There is some limited file transfer access, although no files are visible there are 2 folders. Processes and update_ftp, so it would seem that there is a possibility of getting updates to the ECU in the genesis coupe and possibly some hacking could be done.
I thought this was pretty interesting.

Hyundai couldn't have chosen a more appropriate venue for the launch of the tuner-friendly Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec than the SEMA Show. Shown for the first time at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, the R-Spec model gets all the goodies included in the excellent Track pack, but without all the added luxury features, making it not only lighter but much cheaper than you might exepct. Hyundai has priced the car from $23,750, which is $3,000 less than the standard Track model.
Hyundai calls the car a "perfect blank canvas for tuners."
The R-Spec model includes such goodies as 19-inch gunmetal finished alloy wheels and performance tires, Brembo brakes and a Torsen limited-slip differential; but does without items like Bluetooth connectivity, automatic headlights, cruise control, trip computer, chrome interior accents and steering wheel audio controls.
The car also gets a set of front strut camber adjustment bolts. It will be offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission and will come with R-Spec badging. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec will be available in three colors, Karussell White, Bathurst Black and Tsukuba Red.

After much anticipation, Rhys Millen Racing has finally unveiled its mid-engined V8-powered Genesis Coupe at the 2009 SEMA Show. The RMR460 gets its name from the powerful Tau 4.6-liter V8, that has been borrowed from the Genesis Sedan. But RMR wasn't satisfied with leaving the engine stock, instead choosing to upgrade the engine's internals (with things like JE pistons) ad a set of eight individual throttle bodies for optimum throttle respponse and power. Output is rated at 500-hp!
Finally, a new transmission was needed to get all that power to the rear wheels and for that RMR went to Mendeola for a five-seed sequential box that allows the car to reach a top speed of 182 mph!
Additional modifications include an RMR Signature Edition Kit, a carbon fiber rear spoiler and rear hatch, Sparco seats and 20-inch HRE 560 series wheels, with some big 285/30/20 rear Toyo T1R tires.

If you're shopping for a sports coupe in the low $20,000 price range that offers the best combination of fuel efficiency and style for the street, along with grin-inducing performance capabilities around a race track, chances are you're well aware of Honda's front-wheel drive Civic Si and its high rpm screamer of an engine. At just $21,905 it's a heck of a value, but you also need to consider Hyundai's $22,000 Genesis Coupe 2.0T ($23,250 with 5-speed automatic transmission), a rear-wheel drive machine with sexy styling and a taut well-balanced chassis.
While these two might not seem like competitors, on paper the Honda and Hyundai are surprisingly closely matched, with 0-60 mph and 1/4-mile times favoring the Honda by 0.2-seconds in both acceleration tests but favoring the Hyundai by 0.1g of lateral acceleration around a 200-foot skid pad. With a power-to-weight ratio advantage to the Civic Si at 14.72 lbs/hp compared to the Genesis Coupe 2.0T at 15.85 lbs/hp, physics should come into play and allow the Honda to accelerate faster and reach higher straightaway speeds around our test track. But with wider tires and better weight distribution (54/46 front-to-rear, compared to 61/39 for the Civic) thanks to its rear-wheel drive design, the Hyundai should be able to close the gap with higher cornering speeds.
Of course how things look on paper is rarely how they play out in the real world, so to put all this theorizing to the test we headed to our local 1.4-mile 9-turn test track on a warm and sunny afternoon. Hey, it's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it!

Hyundai is introducing the R-Spec version of its Genesis Coupe 2.0T at the SEMA Show, Nov. 3-6 in Las Vegas.
The tuner-friendly version of the Genesis Coupe 2.0T will be the first production R-Spec model to arrive in the U.S.
Priced at $23,750, the R-Spec features the same core performance equipment as the 2.0T Track model but with non-essential equipment removed to reduce cost and weight. The result is what Hyundai calls a “perfect black canvas for tuners”.
The R-Spec has the same tuned suspension, 19-inch gunmetal finish alloy wheels, performance Summer tires, Brembo brakes, Torsen limited-slip differential, all core equipment on the Track model. The R-Spec also receives a set of front strut camber adjustment bolts and R-Spec badging.
Gone are non-essentials such as Bluetooth connectivity, automatic headlights, cruise control, trip computer, chrome interior accents and steering wheel audio controls. The result is a $3,000 savings from the 2.0T Track model. The R-Spec will only be available with manual transmission.
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec will be available in three colors, Karussell White, Bathurst Black and Tsukuba Red.

I'm worried that Hyundai is going to do something that really ticks me off. What I'm talking about is that I'll buy a 2010 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 and then the very next year Hyundai will give the car a factory tuning and it will have more horsepower and torque and still sell for the same price as last year's.
I'm not familiar with Hyundai's history, so does anyone here know if Hyundai has a habit of doing this? I know Chevy is really bad with this, such as screwing over 2001 Z06 owners as well as LS2 C6 owners.

Just got my new Genesis Coupe 3.8 on friday, waited 82 days for it but it was well worth it!!

Originally i got the 2.0T but they apparently havent been making any for a while now, took my dealer 9 weeks to figure that out.... The supply in my area of the 2.0T's is pretty much 0 at this point so i moved up to the 3.8 instead of waiting until February. The 3.8 is well worth it though!!!

Sorry I've been absent from the forums for a while now, but I have had quite a few things going on at work. We've been through a buy/sell here at the dealership, which basically means we've been sold to another automotive group. It was just total confusion for a couple weeks due to us changing computer systems, vendors, etc. Basically anything and anybody we did business with or talked to on a daily basis had to be changed in some way. Things have thankfully returned to some sense of normality, but I hope I don't have to go through it again for a long time.
But anyway, on to the up side of this post...

A couple weeks before we started hearing about the buy/sell, I traded in the lil Accent on a Norschleife Gray Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track. Quite an improvement, I know. I've had it for a month as of the 20th (Monday), and it's got 1700 or so miles on it. I'm nearly certain that mine was the first one sold in the state of Louisiana, but if you live in the state and bought one before March 20th, speak up. As soon as the oil filters I ordered come in, I'm going to put some Mobil 1 in it. (Just in case any of you need to know, the 3.8 V6 Coupe takes a different oil filter than any other Hyundai uses. I thought it used the same filter as the 3.8 Genesis sedan, but I was wrong. Make sure your dealer has one in stock before going for your first oil change. The part number is 26320-3C700.)
I have to say that I am very very pleased with this car. It has more than enough power to get me jailed for quite some time. I'm going to have to find myself a racetrack somewhere to periodically go visit. The car is not happy doing anything less than 80 mph, and driving it around town stoplight to stoplight in traffic under 45 mph is just not fair to the car. It's like keeping a thoroughbred racehorse in a fenced-in back yard in the middle of suburbia. I would love to put on a set of headers, a full true dual catback exhaust (or header-back, lol) and an intake. That however is going to set me back about $3000, so it's just wish right now. If anyone wants to donate to the "make my car faster" fund, PM me and I'll give you my paypal address... lol j/k.
However, that being said, the more traffic you drive in, the more attention you will get. This car attracts it like crazy, because if you've ever seen one in person, you know that you can't help but look at the car every time you walk by it. I still do that, and I drive it every day... lol. I swear, people act like they have never seen a Hyundai before.

I have nearly tripled the amount of people who call themselves my "friends", and I should start collecting money from everyone who asks the question "so when are you gonna let me drive it?" I usually answer with "NEVER". I am overprotective of it, and so far have only let my brother drive it.
I wish I could count how many people I've seen snapping pics of it with their phones while driving next to me or sitting at a stoplight... It's usually the people driving the "competition" cars: Mustangs, a couple Lexus IS's, a 350Z or two, swarms of G35s, and even a guy in a Porsche Boxster (which btw I can beat as long as it's not a Boxster S). For some reason it seems to really get to the G35 guys, because they almost get offended at the very sight of the Coupe, and they feel it necessary to try to embarass me or put me in my place and prove that it's still "just a Hyundai". When they realize that not only can I keep up with them, but that I can give them quite a run for their money and many times leave them behind, it does nothing but **** them off. I, of course, thoroughly enjoy it to the fullest.
I took the car on a road trip a couple weekends ago and discovered that it attracts "fleas", as I call them. It's those people that notice the car immediately, so they run up next you you and match your speed to get a good look. Then they will speed up to pass you and move over to your lane to get a look at the car in their rearview mirror. Of course this causes them to drive like an idiot, so you pass them. This makes them have the sudden desire to ride your back bumper like they are glued to it and start taking pics of the rear and rear quarter views of the car to show all their buddies. I've found the only way to lose these "fleas" is to totally leave them behind. This is how I managed to take the car to 130 so far, but the road conditions (Louisiana interstates are like washboards) and traffic conditions would not permit me to try to reach the limiter at 150, which was my goal. (And before I get the flamethrower aimed at me, no, I don't do that often, in fact this is the first time in years that I've done it in years. I was a Paramedic for quite a while so I have plenty of experience driving very fast in traffic, as well as the understanding of what that can lead to.)
So enough talking already, bring on the pics, right? LOL... enjoy.

How's this for a school assignment: take a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, construct a twin-turbocharger system to make it pump out 500hp and present your work at SEMA.
That's the task facing students at John Hennessey's Tuner School.
Best known for his work with Dodge Vipers, Hennessey has assigned students at the State of Texas-accredited academy with the task of tuning the 3.8L V6 Genesis Coupe.
Students from the previous class got their hands on the Coupe first. Starting with a baseline 253hp on the dyno, the students constructed cold air induction and cat-back exhaust systems and mixed it a bit of nitrous. The end result was a jump to 380hp at the rear wheel.
With that class graduating, the current cohort has been asked to push the Genesis Coupe even further. The plan is to construct a twin-turbocharger system with a pair of GT30R turbos with the goal of topping 500hp.
The project Coupe will also be fitted with new wheels, gauges and aftermarket seats to make it presentable at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, starting November 3rd.

So, I'm in love. I saw the 2.0T with the spoiler at my Seaway Hyundai dealer -- it's one HOT car. It was in the bright blue. Not quite metallic - but **** nice. They also had the Nodischlife Grey 3.8 Track. Wow. What a beauty.
In Ontario winter is unpredictable and sometimes awful -- what are your thoughts about having this as a full season driver? I'm 5 years into the Elantra come January -- When 2011 model year might be coming out - 2010's might be on sweet deals... Would you drive it in snow?

Tonight at 9:27pm I left the dealership lot in my shiny new 2010 Genesis Coupe. It is a Canadian 'base' V6 which puts it roughly equivalent to the American GT. Manual in Acqua blue.
I'm impressed, especially when I went through the richy rich area of town and people were ogling it and gawking at red lights. I've never had anyone in a Lexus IS-F ogle one of my cars before, but it was a nice feeling.
So far I've obviously taken it pretty easy on it, but I've gotten the pedal down far enough to impress me. It's no rocket ship, but it's fast enough to get you in a mess o trouble in a hurry.
I'll post pics and more information tomorrow. It's 1:49am right now and I need some shut eye.

I was just curious as to how the coupe is holding up as far as build quality is concerned. Such as rattles, squeaks, etc. My friend's Altima coupe developed a rattle after 2k miles and is still there at 23k. Along with a few others. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced an issue yet, as I am considering purchasing a Genesis Coupe myself. However, I CANNOT stand rattles or minor squeaks. Major pet peeve. Thanks for any input.

I can't stand the green indicator lights telling you that your fog ligts are on and that your tail lights are on. Who cares????
They should illuminate to tell you that they are NOT on and they they need to be turned on. Not the other way around.
It's very annoying, also the fact that they are bright green and don't go with anything else on the dash that is in blue.
if it was in the same blue i don't think i'll mind, but they are so bright and bother me when i drive, they just stand out.
Anything that can be done to switch those off or something?

At this stage Hyundai don't appear to be planning to bring the Genesis Coupe to Australia. Although they have been showing it at our motor shows, and a few media spots etc.
Do you guys have any tips on how potential coupe owners over here should campaign to get the vehicle to Australia? Are you best off just going to your local dealer and registering your interest? Or are there other places that I should email etc?

I am buying a genesis 2.0T coupe and right now I am looking at the base model, the dealer I went to did not have one to test drive they only had the 2.0T with the premium package. My concern is that the base audio system is crap in which case I would probably upgrade to the premium package with the infinity system and a sub.
After looking around on the internet I have discovered that the premium package is VERY different in Canada and the USA. The Canadian on gets the following:
Infinity audio system with 10 speakers including a DVC sub, 8-channel digital amp
Heated seats
Leather seats/interior accents
power tilt sun roof
the price in Canada is $3000.00 (vs. $2250 in the USA AND you DO NOT get push button start)
Has anyone played around with the base sound system or own one, what do you think about it. Although leather and heated seats are nice my focus is on the audio as i do not want to end up with the same sound system as in the accent and I'm trying to keep my payments low.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

FYI, the October issue of Consumer Reports tested the Genesis Coupe, Mustang, Camaro and Challenger. Gen came in 3rd (barely) to Camaro and Mustang and way ahead of Challenger. CR did have negative comments re: the ride and suspension in the Genesis.
Appears that suspension is an issue to which Hyundai needs to pay more attention. Edmunds Inside Line also had negatives re: first drive of Equus and it has appeared many times in reviews of Genesis sedan and Azera. Except for this one issue and a few QC ones, upscale Hyundais would be **** near perfect.

So i called Hyundai dealership to confirm what bulbs are for the Genesis.
Headlight (low beam) - H7
Fogs - 880
Anyone do the upgrade yet? Any issues?
I noticed the fuse for the fog lamps are a 10A. Looks like it'll have to be bumped up to a 15A like i did for my 08 Santa Fe or the fuse will keep popping on you.
I'm placing my order today for my HID kit.
Anyone looking to pick up a kit for cheap direct from China (where they're all made) go to www.VVME.com It's where i've bought all my kits for the last few years. You won't find them cheaper.
My only question is now, i just noticed they changed their website and added Digital Ballasts. Can anyone tell me the difference between the regular ballasts and the Digital ones? The extra $10 or so is not a big deal, just want to know what the difference is.
Thanks

Hey guys, currently have an 08 4cyl accord. Its a pretty good car its just getting boring. I want something a little more sporty. I have been doing some research over the past couple of weeks on what to get. I have looked at the G8 GT V8, Geneis Coupe V6, Camero V6, and MazdaSpeed3. I test drove a V6 Gensis and was pretty impressed. Unfortunately the dealer had neither a track edition or a manual tranny on the lot. I test drove a red grand touring which was pretty sweet. I love every angle of the car except for the front (wish the would change that)...it looks like it sucking on a lemon from the front. Only bad thing i can say is my salesperson didn't know squat about the car. Every question i asked him he fumbled. Anyways here are my questions:
1) For people that had the chance to test drive both the Grand Touring & the track how much worse is the ride in the track edition? Its it really harsh. Thats what sucks about these "professional reviews". The reviewers can never agree. Ive heard all the way from....its not bad at all....to its quite harsh over the bumps. I took the grand touring to a road which i knew was really really bad and it did quite well i thought. I'm buying this thing for the fun factor though and i definitely don't want to take away from that...but i don't know how much less fun a grand touring would be compared to track edition. How much better handling will it have with the limited slip diff, stiffer shocks, and bigger tires
2) Ok now for tires. I live. in central IL. While the winters aren't usually that bad (depending on the year)...we do definitely get a few heavy snowfalls or more a year. Will the track edition with its low profile tires be so bad in the snow that your going to have to get an extra set of rims/tires (big expense!!)? I remember in the forums everyone recommending an extra set for the mazdaspeed3. Do you think with traction control you would be ok most of the time. Heck even on hyundai's site they say "Not recommended for snow"
3) Hyundai cars have traditionally had horrible resale values. I think the sonata has turned into a pretty good car but yet it still doesn't have that great of resale. Do you think the genesis will be different just in case you want something different after 3 years? Thats whats so good about the accord. I'm not even 2 years into payments and yet i won't be loosing a dime on this car.
4) Do you think if someone is willing to wait until say near the end of the year (right after christmas) you would get a lot better deal? Right now the dealers are not willing to come that much off of MSRP. I'm hoping i can negotiate a track edition with a manual for 29k if i decide to go with the GC
5) This is more of a personal question. I'm trying to think between 3 colors: Yellow, Red, and Blue. Which one do you guys like the best? The Yellow is kind of cool in the sense that you can only get it in the track edition.
6) This is a easy question for you guys. Does the GC have an instantaneous fuel economy meter?
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
Ncage

Hyundai continues defy doubters, setting a new world record at the world-famous Pikes Peak Hill Climb in a race-prepped Genesis Coupe. Driver Rhys Millen piloted his Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe drift car to a time of 12:09.397 in the rear-wheel drive Time Attack Class, beating his nearest competitor by 1 minute, 23 seconds and besting even his own previous time by 22 seconds.
"Driving the Genesis Coupe for the first time at Pikes Peak in front of thousands of fans is an amazing experience," said Millen. "Nothing compares to the pressure and thrill of Pikes Peak while competing against yourself for the record."
Millen also said the Genesis Coupe performed superbly, even though by the summit the tires were worn down to their steel belts.
The Pikes Peak Hill Climb, which takes place annually on Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado, starts at an elevation of 9,300 feet and finishes at an elevation of 14,110 feet - where the air is so think drivers' reaction times begin to slow and their race car engines lose 30 percent of their power. Drivers drift around 156 corners, nearly missing guard rails and trees, while avoiding cliffs with 2,000-foot drop-offs.
2009 marks the 87th annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the second-oldest motorsports event in America, second only to the Indianapolis 500.

Just wanted to say hey and Introduce myself.
Have been a fan of Hyundai's for a while and have been trying to get the wife on board as well but to no avail, she has always been an american car girl and has had some nice ones (Z28, Lincoln MKviii and mot recently a Cadillac STS) But as she has been sadly learning, once they get a little older they start to fall apart. I work at Rental car company and therefor get to drive alot of different makes and models and have been a big fan of the V6 Sonata and Azera.
I brought home an 09 v6 Sonata over the weekend and let her drive it, though she liked it for some reason she did'nt love it, maybe it was the color, if it was Black with black leather I think that would have helped alot. Well she is finally fed up with the Caddy and we went car shopping last night, but old habits came out and she was looking at Chrysler 300c Hemi's and Chargers but she was'nt happy with the warranty, so I said humor me and go look at new Hyundai's if you want a good warranty.
luckily the dealer we were at was 2 mins from a Hyundai dealer so she agreed, when we got there the fist car that catches her eye is the big black Genesis sedan parked out front and instantly makes a B-line to it but is not ready to pay 40K for a car.
And then it happens... she sees the Genesis Coupe and and is like "Wow, What is that???" 2010 Coupe 2.0t premium in Karussell White. She drives it, Loves it and buys it 30 mins after getting there and finally seeing that Hyundai's are no joke.
I will get to drive it when we go out and and on weekends but it is her daily driver, but I have my choice of cars from work and I find myself usually in a V6 Sonata any way.
Later G

Has anyone with the 3.8 w. auto trans have comments on the downshifting during hard acceleration at highway speeds? RPM jumps from 2k to 3k up to 5.5k to 6.0k as gear drops from 5 or 6 to 3. My concerns are smoothness while in downshift and how fast the gears climb back up when returning to cruising speed.

If am down to two Genesis Coupes in the same color, with two different trims on the lot, but the one I want has a spoiler I DONT want, could swapping the whole trunk/spoiler be a possible solution. I know you cant the dealiership take a spoiler back off, so could they swap the whole piece the spoiler is on? Anything wrong with doing that, any reason I wouldnt want that?
Also, If I instead have the dealer track down my exact need sin another state, could I get stuck with a car form a state with higher emissions standards that has been modified for that states standards, therefore causing any kind of performance loss ibnt he way the car is set up??
Trying to buy one for my daughter and having trouble with the color she wants.
Thanks for your opinion

So, I got word that my favorite service manager (Dale) was now a sales guy, so I thought it'd be nice to pay him a visit and encourage him a little.
Well, the visit turned into him showing the Genesis coupe, then I was introduced to the manager, then I got to start the coupe (mmmm, rawr)
After a while the manager said to let him run the numbers and he promised he would make me a deal I would be able to consider. I hemmed and hawed, then I did it so that Dale would get some practice.
Took a little while since it was a holiday monday, but they came back with $510/month based on $36,000 at 2.6%.
I almost bit.... I was sooo close. You see, my credit had been AWFUL when I bought my sonata and I accepted a loan at 15.9%. I knew it was a bad idea, but I was told that it would boost my rating, and sure enough, it did

Unfortunately the car was silver. Silver is a great color for some people, but it just doesn't do it for me, so instead of taking it home I took some pics.

Does anyone have a specific date as to when the Genesis R-spec is supposed to go on sale? All I can find on the internet (where everything is true) is mid-year.

It's been a long wait for fans of affordable and fun-to-drive rear-wheel drive machines with Japanese build quality and style. But thanks to Korean superpower Hyundai, the wait is over in the form of the Genesis Coupe 2.0T, a machine clearly built for young (and young at heart) automotive enthusiasts with a passion for technologies commonly associated with the 'sport compact' segment, like turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, nimble handling, sporty styling and a sub $30,000 price tag. The 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T ticks off all those boxes and more, making it what's likely to be an instant classic among the hardcore enthusiast and tuner crowds.
The fact that Hyundai has provided a selection of press photos that include images of the car drifting or power sliding and the fact that the company's corporate website shows the car being thrashed on a race track should tell you a lot about who their target market is with the Genesis Coupe 2.0T. Think 18 to 35 year old males who follow the FormulaDRIFT racing series and want to have a little drifting or track day fun of their own.
Similarly, by equipping the Genesis coupe with a 2-liter turbocharged and intercooled inline-4 cylinder engine (sharing the same GEMA World Engine architecture as the engine found in the 291 horsepower Mitsubishi Evolution X), Hyundai is clearly trying to appeal to the 'tuner' crowd made up of hands-on owners who like to find ways of turning up the boost pressure for a little extra power.
Further indicating the Genesis Coupe 2.0T's hardcore performance orientation is the availability of a Track model that's equipped with a Torsen limited slip differential, big Brembo brakes front and rear, and suspension tuning including stiffer front and rear spring rates, larger diameter front and rear anti-sway bars and more aggressive shock valving.
