Does anyone know if the Genesis Nav System is also touch screen? I know it has the media control knob down by the cupholders, but I was curious as to if it was touch screen as well.

Hi guys,
Could you please share your experiences about real fuel consumption of Genesis ?
Both V6 and V8.
I'm very curious what is the real fuel consumption of this car in city and HW.
Do u use standard gasoline or premium?
Rob.

Just curious, how do luxury car drivers feel about their new Genesis? Is it also a true luxury car?
I would especially like to hear from MB, big BMW, big Lexus, and other luxury car owners. Do you think the car is a legitimate luxury car in every sense, or a partial or total knockoff?
Have you taken other luxury car owners for a ride, and what were their impressions?
Happy New Year to all,,,

I have a new (2000 miles) '09 Genesis and the TPMS light comes on occasionaly. No pattern to it. The dealer says it is affected by radio frequencies and this will happen from time to time. Supposedly Hyundai is working on it. Anyone else have this problem?

FYI, the October issue of Consumer Reports tested the Genesis Coupe, Mustang, Camaro and Challenger. Gen came in 3rd (barely) to Camaro and Mustang and way ahead of Challenger. CR did have negative comments re: the ride and suspension in the Genesis.
Appears that suspension is an issue to which Hyundai needs to pay more attention. Edmunds Inside Line also had negatives re: first drive of Equus and it has appeared many times in reviews of Genesis sedan and Azera. Except for this one issue and a few QC ones, upscale Hyundais would be **** near perfect.

From what I can tell, the HD radio will pick up AM radio stations broadcasting in HD. I have looked on the website that list HD radio stations and see there are some in Atlanta as well as many other ares. However, When I tune these stations, I don't seem to get the HD programming. I am thinking that the stations are not very strong and likely need to get a "full quieting" signal in order to decode the HD signal.
Has anyone actually been able to pick up HD on the AM band? If so, I am wondering what you think of the sound.

Each year J.D. Power & Associates does a study that examines the most appealing cars to consumers and this year there is one big surprise. The Hyundai Genesis sedan topped the BMW 5 Series and Jaguar XF in the mid-sized luxury segment for the 2009 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.
The APEAL Study is based off of owner evaluations of over 80,900 new car consumers from February to May 2009 and takes into account over 90 factors and generally evaluates how those buyers or leasers feel about their car new car.
Other winners include the VW Passat in the Mid-sized car segment, the Nissan Maxima in the Large Car segment, the Honda Odyssey in the Minivan Segment, a tie between the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Avalanche in the Pickup Truck segment and the Smart fortwo in the Sub-compact Car segment. And on that note, we urge you to take the list with a grain of salt, as the Smart beat out cars like the Honda Fit.
In terms of manufacturers, Porsche topped the list for the fifth consecutive year, while domestic brands like Dodge, Pontiac, Buick and Cadillac showed the most improvement. As a manufacturer Cadillac placed third overall.
Overall, scores for 2009 improved over 2008, due mostly to improvements in the fuel-economy segment. J.D. Power lists three contributing factors to this increase: improved fuel-economy of the vehicles; an increase in ownership of fuel-efficient cars, with over 50 percent (as compared to 39 percent in 2008) of the surveyed vehicles powered by four-cylinder engines; and a drop in fuel prices that has also meant consumers are less interested in fuel economy.
One other trend that has emerged is the increasing appeal of domestic brands, as they ranked, on average, just five points below import brands. This compares to a difference of 15 points last year and 27 points in 2007.

Hey All
Dropped a 3K deposit on my new 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 w/ tech package last Thursday and the dealer just called... My New Car will be here Next Thursday!!!!!! (Got her in black with black leather.)
The only question I have is rather simple:
I have read reports online that the 4.6 with the Tech Package has a 40 Gig hard drive that you can store music on... Is this true??? I never read anything about it on the Hyundai website or the cars brochure....
If it doesn't, can I plug my 8 Gig memory stick into the onboard USB port and listen to the songs straight off there? (Would save a lot of clumsy CD's...)
PS: I will load lots of pics when I get her next week!

Just got my Genesis V6 and I am amazed and really happy with this car. I used to drive Acura TL earlier and most features in this are better. Howver one feature I wanted is when you use your remote and press and hold the open button then windows roll down. Anyone knows if there is a module available for remote windows rollup/down?
Thanks

I hear Hyundai has a tight grip on info about upgrade chip for Genesis, I also hear that they may be releasing one in about 8-10 months, that will enable higher HP(500hp) and better fuel economy and such. Hope this is true.
I look forward to that when it drops

Issue is acceleration to 60 from zero, or acceleration beyond 70 to pass on interstate. Acceleration seems to lag when stepping down in auto. Would try using manual shifting, but scared of exceeding redline. Does this 2009 Genesis 4.6 Tech protect itself from me by auto upshifting even in manual? If it does, does 0-60 time improve if put in manual at 1 and letting it upshift nearer redline than in auto?

I have been using premium fuel since I got my new 4.6 (1500 miles). What fuel are you using. This evening, I filled up with Regular fuel for the first time to see if I could tell any difference. What has your experience been between Regular and Premium fuel?
No conclusion yet but it does seem less power on normal acceleration from a light.

Wow, it sure is interesting driving around the major highways and areas of Atlanta metro where the high end vehicle owners tend to frequent. I find it amusing where people speed up to see what kind of car that is and pass you craning their neck to take a look. You can tell they are asking themselves, what is that!
Had a guy on a Harley speed up checked out the car passed me on the right taking another look gave the ol' thumbs up and sped off.
I have a winged badges all the way around. One person in a shopping parking lot asked me what kind of car that was. Told him it was a Genesis. He said, "oh I have heard of those. They are suppose to be nice. At first, I though it was a Bentley".

Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at
TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so it's possible to provide reliability information on new models like the Genesis quickly.
Because of the significance of the Genesis for Hyundai and the car industry as a whole, I'd like to have results for it as soon as possible.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.
For the details, and to sign up to help out:

I am just waiting to get my career back on track and once I get some money saved up, I'm going to take the plunge and get a Genesis. I had originally set my sights on a new Santa Fe but after seeing the new grille design

I narrowed it down to the Genesis or Genesis Coupe. After another month or so of pondering, I knocked the GC out of the running as it isn't practical for my lifestyle and going out with friends, etc. Plus I'm not an ostentatious person and the coupe is a bit flashy whereas the sedan is more subtle and toned down. So, I wanted to see what everybody thought of these ideas for my Genesis. She would be a custom, built-to-order car as follows:
Trim: 4.6
Color: Black Noir Pearl
Interior: Jet Black Leather
Factory-Fitted Options: Technology Package
Modifications & Accessories- Carpeted Floor Mats with embroidered Genesis logo
- No Front Plate (not drilled into bumper AT ALL)
- 20% window tint all around (except windshield)
- 3/8" drop with stiffer springs
- Debadge 'Genesis' and '4.6' logos. Retain Hyundai insignia on trunk lid and wheels.
- Custom Alcantara head lining to color match factory material
- Custom Exhaust (remove resonators, custom vibrant mufflers, two tips per side)
- Michelin Pilot Sport Summer High-Performance Tires
- Cultural Trust License Plate (standard issue; not custom)
- Matte Black License Plate Frame (no inscriptions) with screw caps
- Clear mask hood, mirror caps, door edges and inside door handle coves
- OEM Hyundai Car Cover
- Chrome Hyundai “H” Stem Valve Caps
I'm thinking about even getting a nice set of aftermarket wheels although I do like the factory V8 wheels.
Any comments or ideas? Thanks.

OK, so here goes... I am a young lawyer who ownes his own firm in a realtively small town in Newfoundland, Canada. Long story short, I really needed a good company vehicle to offset the expense of using my own vehicle for about 400kms a week...
Now, I looked at the Mercedes C and E, Cadillac CTS, Lincoln MKZ, etc., but they all seemed either SUPER pricey, or somewhat underpowered... (When I drop 50K + on a car, I WANT 300+ HP and a V8!) They also seemed to have one inherent problem as well... They all gave off the allure or image of "this guy is filthy freaking rich..." Now, I can see how some lawyers, doctors, professionals, etc. might want to give off that sense of success, but hey, I am in a small town where I know about 60% of the population... I offer reasonable services at reasonable prices and while I do make good money doing this, in no way am I out to give off the image of being a "rich showoff."
That being said, I really do appreciate a strong V8 engine, comfortable ride and lots of Technical Goodies. (I do well for myself, so why not spoil myself a little...

)
The Hyundai Genesis meets all my needs... It is powerful, roomy, very poosh, high tech and sophisticated, yet it doesn't have the "get out of my way little man," attitude of the other cars... I can drive in a high end Hyundai without seeming too "snobish." Yet at the same time, I get all the perks of the high-end car makers, at about 20K less. (Personally, I am not interested in spending 20K more on an E class just because of its name...)
Anyway, that just sums up my feelings on the 2009 Genesis...
My 2009 Genesis 4.6 with the Tech Package will be delivered next month...

I remember earlier this year I saw a Genesis in the show room with nice 18"wheels. They had cut outs and had 7 spokes. Im seriously thinking of getting one but when I went looking all the ones I saw had these hidious 18" wheels on them. What happened to the nice 18' wheels??? Those new wheels are a deal breaker for me.
Here are the ones I originally saw

These are the hidious wheels that are all I see now

Hey group,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I've been a Genesis owner for 2 two days now and all I can say is I LOVE MY NEW CAR!
I rolling in a black on black 4.6 with the tech package. It is an undeniably sweet ride. But it's also not my first Hyundai. I have previously owned a '88 Excel sedan and a '93 Excel hatchback. After months of mechanical problems, both ended up dying horrible, smoking, sputtering deaths.
So needless to say it took some soul searching when I found myself considering the purchase of yet another Hyundai. I did my research, took a test drive and finally pulled the trigger yesterday. I could not be happier. It rides like a dream with power to spare. It looks amazing, inside and out. There are more tech features then I've seen on any other car. It has a seat COOLER! No burned bum on the leather seats come summer time!
So, I'm looking forward to sharing the in's and out's of our new babies with you all. I'll just wrap this up with a, "Way to go Hyundai!".

Hi,
I'm looking at a used (old DEMO for which the dealer says he took title to make quota) 2009 3.8 V6 premium plus. Car has 8000 miles and seems to be in good shape. Dealer says it listed for 36K new invoice he shared was 33K. Is there any info on what the used market is like? I was thinking depreciation should bring the car to around 27K.
Thanks,
Dave

Ever since I got to see and hear a pre-production Genesis V8, I was pretty disappointed in the exhaust. It wasn't just the fact that it sounded too subtle, it actually sounded like it was strangling the engine. The poor thing couldn't breathe.
The video doesn't say who makes the exhaust but I think this sounds incredibly hot.

Our Genesis has a very "high pitched sound" which only I and a few others have heard. It's a high pitched sound, like something only a dog can hear or someone who can hear very high tones. I'm the lucky one. It's very annoying and it spoils the
car ride. Anyone else had this problem?
At least two of the dealers employee's have heard it, but no one know's where it's coming from or how to fix it.
One of the Genesis trained mechanics heard it and our salesman heard it. But no one seems to be able to find
where it's coming from or how to fix it. Kind of hard when they can't hear it.
We have been having this problem ever since it was new. It comes on and stays on anywhere from 30 sec to
1.5 minutes. Seems to come from the passengers side. We have tried to figure out if it's any of the accessories in the car,
but one time the sound went off when the engine was off.
We like the car but this noise makes it impossible to drive in. So, we have started the Lemon Law process in hopes
they can either fix it or give us a new car so we can start over.
I'll never buy a car in it's first year on the road again. We did this back when the Buick Riviera Diesel came out.
What a nightmare. And we said just before we said Yes to the Genesis, should we be taking a chance again ?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I have Genesis 3.8 with Premium Plus Pack.
Everything is good except lack of the parking assitance sensors.
(Without this, I already had some big chips on rear bumper.)
Since the instrument cluster is supervision type, if I have the 4 sensors for rear, 4 sensors for front and control unit, I think I can install the front/rear parking assistance system (which is included in Tech. package), after making holes on bumpers and intalling them.
Do you think it's possible?
Has anybody tried this?

The Hyundai Genesis (available to subscribers) outscores this month's field of upscale sedans and is now our highest rated vehicle in the category, just outscoring the Lexus ES. That accomplishment by the South Korean automaker solidifies its reputation as a builder of high-quality vehicles in several diverse automotive segments.
Spacious and well appointed, the rear-wheel-drive Genesis offers good value and is a compelling alternative to luxury vehicles costing thousands more. We tested the six-cylinder version, which offers more than adequate performance. A V8 version is also sold, but it was not available in time for our test.
The market for upscale sedans is very competitive, and some models blur the lines between upscale and luxury cars. (Luxury models are usually more opulent and costly.) In turn, automakers are offering more choices than ever in the segment.
This month's group of cars includes five new or redesigned upscale sedans. In addition to the Genesis, we tested the sporty, rear-wheel-drive, Australian-designed Pontiac G8; the new Lincoln MKS; the redesigned Acura TL; and the Nissan Maxima (all available to subscribers). All-wheel drive is available on the MKS and TL.
Prices for these upscale sedans ranged from $33,660 for the Pontiac to $40,880 for the Lincoln.
The cars in this group have notable differences. Some are tuned to be pampering cruisers while others are more sporty in character, and there are many iterations in between. The Genesis and MKS are more lavish. The Acura TL should appeal to those who desire a sportier drive. The G8 is a performance sedan. The Nissan Maxima is a pleasant enough car overall, but it doesn't offer a whole lot more than the less costly Nissan Altima V6.
In addition to those vehicles, we also tested the sporty Jaguar XF (available to subscribers), the newly christened replacement to the S-Type sedan. The XF, which went on sale last spring, cost $54,075. It comes with a V8 engine and is priced like competitors' V6s.
We also tested the freshened Acura RL luxury sedan with its new 3.7-liter engine. It's a slick car, but it's not special enough to command such a premium over the new TL. It's an update of our 2005 test of the RL.
Coming soon
Most models in this class are recent designs, and a few notable entries are in the pipeline. Watch for a freshened Audi A6 in spring 2009 and a redesigned Mercedes-Benz E-Class to follow soon afterward. A diesel version of that upscale sedan will be offered as part of the Mercedes redesign; such an engine is available with the current E-Class. A diesel-powered version of the A6 has been reported to be in the offing.

Automobile Magazine quote:
"But add a few bumps and the Genesis takes a turn for the worse. Unlike any of the other sedans,The Hyundai falls completely to pieces on twisty, bumpy back roads. Push it hard and the pavement irregularities send the Genesis heaving and wallowing down the road with the traction control light flashing and the steering wheel shuddering. When you're hustling with a car full of passengers, its soft rear suspension crashes onto its bump stops over moderately rough roads."
While I like the Genesis, and I actually think Hyundai is doing stellar with fit and finish and engine technology, I don't think I'm being unfair or biased in pointing out that suspension issues/problems/quirks are still the biggest impediment to the Hyundai truly challenging the established sport and sport-luxury stalwarts to date, and the Genesis has not resolved that issue.
This assessment by Automobile Magazine absolutely is consistent with my experience with the Genesis I nearly bought, and did not for the reasons cited.

An August review of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis V6 on Inside Line described the car as "the Cadillac of Hyundais." The Genesis beat out such semifinalists as the Audi A4, BMW 1 Series, Cadillac CTS-V, Honda Fit, Jaguar XF, Lincoln MKS, Mazda 6 and Pontiac G8.

PRESS RELEASE:
Ward's Announces 2009 10 Best Engines Winners
SOUTHFIELD, MI – Amid plummeting vehicle sales, thousands of job losses, an economy officially in recession and pleas for federal assistance, a handful of auto makers have cause to celebrate.
Ward's Automotive Group announces its 2009 10 Best Engines list, which reflects the diversity of powertrains that will play a role in reshaping America's automotive landscape.
Selected by Ward's editors, the 2009 list marks the 15th year for the Ward's 10 Best Engines program, the North American auto industry's only awards honoring powertrain excellence and considered by many to be the "Oscars" for automotive engines.
The winners for 2008 (engine and tested vehicle):
* Audi AG: 2.0L TFSI turbocharged DOHC I-4 (A4 Avant)
* BMW AG: 3.0L turbocharged DOHC I-6 (135i Coupe)
* BMW AG: 3.0L DOHC I-6 Turbodiesel (335d)
* Chrysler LLC: 5.7L Hemi OHV V-8 (Dodge Ram/Challenger R/T)
* Ford Motor Co.: 2.5L DOHC I-4 HEV (Escape Hybrid)
* General Motors Corp.: 3.6L DOHC V-6 (Cadillac CTS)
* Honda Motor Co. Ltd.: 3.5L SOHC V-6 (Accord Coupe)
* Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd.: 4.6L DOHC V-8 (Genesis)* Toyota Motor Corp.: 3.5L DOHC V-6 (Lexus IS 350)
* Volkswagen AG: 2.0L SOHC I-4 Turbodiesel (Jetta TDI)
Awards to be presented during Detroit auto show in January.
"A decade ago, few consumers in the U.S. paid serious attention to hybrids or diesels. This year, they have to, if they don't want to be pinched the next time fuel hits $4 a gallon," says Tom Murphy, executive editor of Ward's AutoWorld magazine."The diesels from VW and BMW and the Ford Escape Hybrid all got better than 30 mpg (7.8 L/100 km) during our testing, and often they topped 40 mpg (5.8 L/100 km)," he says. "And the diesels meet the strictest emissions regulations in the world. If Americans want to find a vehicle that consumes less fuel and is fun to drive, our list is a great place to start."
Among the winners is Ford Motor Co.'s redesigned 2.5L 4-cyl. hybrid-electric powertrain, which motivated President and CEO Alan Mulally's Escape Hybrid cross/utility vehicle to and from Washington D.C. for federal-aid talks, makes the cut.
During Ward's testing, the front-wheel-drive HEV managed to easily surpass the federal fuel-economy rating of 34/31 city/highway mpg (6.9-7.5 L/100 km).
BMW AG's new 3.0L inline 6-cyl. turbodiesel scores a slot on the list in its first year available in the U.S. Joined by the auto maker's twin-turbocharged and direct-injected gasoline I-6 engine, which returns for the third year, the diesel employs a sequential twin-turbocharger system that provides the 335d sedan with impressive fuel economy and a stunning 425 lb.-ft. (576 Nm) of torque.
Volkswagen AG joins the clean-diesel party this year, as well, with its new 2.0L 4-cyl. turbodiesel powering the Jetta TDI sedan. Fun to drive and frugal at the pump, the TDI is an affordable and entertaining alternative to many larger gasoline and hybrid-electric powertrains.
Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd. appears for the first time on Ward's 10 Best Engines list with its all-new Tau 4.6L DOHC V-8. Introduced in the new Genesis luxury sedan, the engine's velvety power delivery, competitive performance and attainable price epitomize the Korean auto maker's drive for world-class engineering.Related Stories

Ward's 10 Best Engines
Chrysler LLC's venerable 5.7L Hemi V-8 returns to the rankings with added refinement, power and variable-valvetrain and induction technology. Its guttural roar and low-end grunt serves double duty this year in the all-new Dodge Challenger R/T and Ram pickup.
Toyota Motor Corp. scores its fourth consecutive 10 Best Engines win with its Lexus 3.5L DOHC V-6, a brilliant design that employs a unique, combination direct- and port-injection fueling system that helps generate 306 hp and 277 lb.-ft. (376 Nm) of torque.
General Motors Corp. and Honda Motor Co. Ltd. also make return appearances with their high-volume V-6 engines exemplifying practicality balanced with precision engineering.
GM's high-feature 3.6L V-6 with direct-gasoline injection returns for the second time. Tested in the Cadillac CTS, yet flexible enough to proliferate through the auto maker's CUVs, the advanced V-6 makes a hardy 304 hp on regular gasoline.
Honda underscores its longstanding reputation for great engines with the encore performance of its 3.5L SOHC V-6 in the Accord lineup. Merging exceptional performance with reasonable fuel economy, the engine employs advanced cylinder deactivation in the sedan and engaging power delivery in the coupe.
Audi AG's 2.0L TFSI turbocharged 4-cyl., freshly revamped with 211 hp and a mighty 258 lb.-ft. (350 Nm) of torque for the all-new A4, rounds out the list with a fourth-consecutive 10 Best Engines placing as one of the best all-around turbo-4s on the market.
This year, six Ward's editors nominated 32 different engines for the Ward's 10 Best Engines competition. The nominee list consists of the 2008 winners as well as all-new or significantly improved engines.
Over a nearly 2-month period, the editors evaluated and scored each engine against all others in a number of objective and subjective parameters. Each engine must be available in a regular-production U.S.-specification model on sale no later than first-quarter 2009, in a vehicle priced no more than $54,000, a price cap indexed to the average cost of a new vehicle.
The awards will be given at a Jan. 14 ceremony in Detroit during the North American International Auto Show.
