Help! After overnight rain or drizzle, my 99 Atoz starts first time & all appears well, but after 1/4 mile I get the odd judder - & after 1/2 mile the engine splutters then dies - made worse if I press on the accelerator. If I wait for about 10 mins, it drives away as if there were nothing wrong!!! Dry days, hot days , cold days - absolutely no problem. Just wet days, after the first 1/2 mile or so, & once it has sat & vegetated for 10 mins the problem does not recur that day. Any ideas please??? Thanks!

Hi I just bought an Atoz+ on ebay with full service history, new cambelt, 60k etc. When I drive it is noisey. A few scapes and sounds - I guess there is not much to this car and not much buffering but as you faster you get a noise I can't live with. Sounds like front right, doesn't happen in neutral else very quiet - only when in gear with engine on or off at speed - kind of 1) a scraping 2) a wow wow wow wow - like a bus. A friend said maybe drive shaft or something... Too noisey to live with and annoyed as said nothing about it on ebay. Also first tank got me 32mpg.. I thought these did more? 1L
Thanks

Hi,
I'm the owner of this beaut:

There is a mayor problem though - it won't start in wet or damp weather! Sometimes the engine dies when driving - when the revs go down. I had the same problem last winter though it used to start after running the starter 5-10 times. Today it wouldn't start at all.
Anyone who had this problem and knows what's wrong? When I asked at my local shop they went like: "I dunno..."
Thanks for any help.

I need a coolant tenperature sensor, and the Hyundai part is £50. Does anyone know of a UK replacement part, please.
I have had my Atoz for several years, and from the outset the temperature gauge has only just moved up a bit. I checked the thermostat operation OK, and then haven't bothered to fit a new sensor. as I do litte mileage, I now realise that the emgine management is probably setting the fuel for a cold engine.

I bought an S reg Atoz+ on Friday and on the way home (some 100 miles) the car broke down - long story cut short, it turns out that the alternator has died.
Could anyone please tell me how to change the alternator? I am picking up the new one tomorrow.

Hello,
My mum has a problem with her car. Her reverse lights and front fog lights do not work for some reason. I've checked both literally all the fuses on the car and they are all fine. I've also had the light assembleys off and all the bulbs are fine. Has anyone got any other ideas I could try?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I have a 2001 Atos Prime and am becoming quite dissatisfied with the small engine...I drove a 1600 cc car for two weeks and then returned to my Atos...which I love dearly...but now I find that it is not that much fun to drive anymore now that I have had better/bigger. My question is ...can I keep the car I love to look at , but give it a bigger engine? Someone suggested that I install a Hyundai Accent engine. Has anyone here ever done that or heard of it...and is there any advice you could give?

Hi,
My wife has a 98 atoz+ 1.0 and it appears to have an ignition problem?
It started to misfire and stall so I replaced the plugs, leads, dizi cap and rotor arm, this sorted things for about 6 months when it started doing it again. The leads were shot!? So new leads again and all is good. Year later and its doing it again!! Leads are fine this time as are plugs, inside the dizi cap the aluminium contact posts seem to build up corrosion very fast and need scraping off as does the rotor arm, when I do this it will be fine for a few days or even a week or two but it starts missing and jumping in the end, (it will run pretty well at up 2 about 1/3 throttle and if you keep the revs up but any more than 1/3 will miss and jump and stall?? (until i clean the cap and arm again)
Any ideas on this?? as it is a real pain in the back side.
P.S Its loads worse in the damp weather.

Just brought a Amicia GSi auto 999cc 2002, I have high pitched whistle/hissing when turning corners or going round a roundabout, any ideas what it could be, one suggestion has been that it's the power steering pump under load, and it's
by-passing pressure.
Think I have found the cause of the noise,

it's the drive belt on the alternator slipping under load, when I switched head lights on to check them today the extra load is on the alternator the noise was there, rear brake lights on when braking on roundabout loads the alternator belt slips.

After how much kilometers the timing-belt of Santro (Atos) should be checked/changed?
I am asking this because I have heard that if it brakes on the move then it causes serious damages to the engine, therefore it should be inspected and changed well in time.

I see from the Hyundai UK website that the Amica is no longer listed in the "New cars" category. The listing starts with the i10.

For the past 6 months (!) the engine warning light on my Amica stays on. My local friendly mechanic has replaced the ignition coil which made the light go off for a bit. Then the spark plugs were replaced which made it go back off for a shorter period but solved the other problem. This is that when it is damp the car has no power until it has warmed up and 'chugs' quite a lot. On a dry day I take it on runs of 300 miles with not a hint of a problem. I know these descriptions are quite simplistic but any suggestions on how to make the light go off for ever. If I need any parts can anyone recommend an online shop that dfoes them cheaper than main dealer?
Thanks
Dave

Hi,
the misuss took my car out today and it was fine, we had to nip out in it 10 mins later and as we started to drive off the car started "clugging" or jolting forward, a bit like jamming on the brakes ever 5 secs....
wasn't the hand brake and she was in gear, tried it in 2nd and same thing, in reverse it was fine and another thing is it kept stalling.
i have no idea about cars but i need to have it working as i need it for work (when i pass my test...) been told it might be the "selector"?
if anyone has any ideas then please let me know.
thanks
Paul

Hi to all
I have an Atos Prime 2002 model. It does not have a tachometer. I want to buy a tachometer and fit it under the dash. I know that one of the wires has to go into the ECU. Just don't know which pin it is. I looked around in this forum but no mention of Atos/tachometer was found.
Any help please?
Another thing- where is the ECU located. Is it under the dash?
Thanks.

I have a 2002 Hyundai Atos. It is supposes to light up a "key" light as I turn the ignition to the ON position. If this does not light it won't start. It is supposed to protect against robbery (immobiliser). The problem is that it sometimes lights and sometimes not. I've had this problem for quite some time but after turning the key some times it finally lits. Lately I've had this problem but it won't light even after turning the key some dozens times. I have tried with the spare key also with the same results.
If I go to the dealer I will get robbed, so I'm trying to find someone who has had the same problem and found a workaround. Is there any easy way of fixing it? Or can the immobiliser feature be disabled?
Thanks for any help.

Hi to all.
I have a Hyundai Atos Prime (2002 Model). Never had any problems with it since I bought it. Now i have noticed that when i shift into reverse the gear sometimes grindes. This happens even on starting the car after being parked for some time. To avoid this grinding noise i first shift in Ist gear and then into reverse. It seems Ok then but since this noise has started just recently I am thinking that there is something wrong.
All ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all.

Hi
My Mum's Atoz failed its MOT on the windscreen (front) washers not working. There was no noise at all when pulling the washer stalk so I assumed that the pump was probably duff (it was, tested by using a multimeter to check that the power feed to the pump was OK when the stalk was pulled - it was. (See dismantling notes below for instructions on how to access the pump for testing.)
I found that there are TWO separate pumps, one for the front screen, one for the rear screen. Both plug into the washer bottle found between the inner and outer wings (nearside.)
KEEPING IT CLEAN: Best bet first of all is to put on a pair of latex gloves sold at most car accessory shops, to avoid getting grubby. To access the pumps / washer bottle, first the nearside front road wheel needs to be removed and the car supported securely - CONSULT THE USERS' MANUAL ON HOW TO DO THIS CORRECTLY AND SAFELY. Then remove the plastic wing liner inside the wheel arch. The liner is held on via various plastic and metal screws - plastic ones are an 'inner and outer' design so the inner bit is unscrewed and the outer bit can then be pulled out. Take the liner right off so that both pumps can be seen and you don't test the wrong one, as I did at first ! First, unclip the two pump wiring connectors by pressing the release clips. Then take off the washer bottle itself. First, detach the rubber hose that connects the front washer jets to the bottle. Then take off the bottle. It is held by one 10mm bolt inside the engine bay on the inner wing plus two 10mm bolts that hold the filler neck on. Once these are off, simply slide the bottle forward to detach it from a plastic guide clip attached to the underside of the inner wing and the bottle can then be taken off. Refitting is a reversal of removal, as they say.
Test both pumps to make sure that you are replacing the right i.e. duff one! A new pump can be bought at Hyundai for around £45 incl VAT, but the Halfords version - HWP15 - fits fine and is around £15; you just need to cut the short length of wire off the old pump as close to the pump as possible, and then add two waterproof connectors to the two cut ends to allow the new pump to be connected up. Test it for leaks once the new pump is installed and whilst it is still accessible i.e. before refitting everything, as the rubber grommet sealing the pump can get pushed in when installing the pump and leak. (Install the pump with a slight twisting action to make sure it seals correctly.) Before reinstalling everything and once the bottle has some water in it, also test that the pumps works correctly. (If it runs but there's no water coming out, it might be that the two wires, now with their two new separate connectors, are connected the wrong way round - reverse them and test it again.
Well, that's it: the wing liner removal and refitting is slightly fiddly and a bit grubby, but the whole job only took me about a hour and a half of actual 'doing' time (rather than figuring-out time) in total.

Hello Members,
Looking for a litle help if possible. I purchased a 1999 semi-automatic Atoz 3 years ago. Car was in perfect condition and ran without problems for the first year. I then had problems with the gearbox ECU and solenoid. Both were replaced by the local dealer at some cost but the problem did not go away. Currently the car is drivable but there is this continious alarm coming from the ECU, beeping every 20 seconds or so. Diagnostic tests at the Dealership reveals no faults. Any input would be appreciated.
Regards
Ian Mackay

Our atoz has started cutting out when ever we stop at traffic lights or a junction. At first when we put the gearbox to neutral it stopped happening but then started doing the same. It even cut out a few times when driving. The problem seemed to get reall
