For the past few weeks I have been trialling a tuning box manufactured by a German company ASA Autotechnik Saretz and I have compiled the attached report giving details of my findings. Should you want more info from me contact via a personal email and I will try to answer those questions posed.
A really special price to forum members has been negotiated with ASA Autotechnik Saretz who can offer a Tuning box, plus appropriate connecting cable complete and delivered to your door for an all-inclusive Special price of 99 plus shipping costs of 10 to the UK. (A total of 109)
Members in other Countries should check shipping costs prior to purchasing but I have been advised that they will be as reasonable as is possible)
Please Note: -
This is a considerable saving on the regular ASA Autotechnik Saretz Internet price of 148 plus postage.
This is the best available offer on the Internet. Contact them by Email to order at
shop@autotechnik-saretz.de ENGLISH is spoken and understood.
When ordering please quote reference Itza/ASA ECO CR/Special Offer
If you have another vehicle that has any other type of diesel engine, ASA Autotechnik Saretz possibly manufacture a tuning device for that as well so contact them to see what they can offer you.

Need help in locating a front mask(bra) for 2009 U.S. version i30 (Elanta Touring). Looking at front end shots of the i30 it looks like a mask made for the i30 would work on my Touring model. Have checked links posted on this site and cannot locate a source for above. Nothing available in U.S. yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all
I was wondering if anybody knows whether or not the Bluetooth Phone Kit will do media streaming to the car's speakers for the i30 (like the Tucson).
Thanks,
Jason.

Hello all ,
I am looking forward to the delivery of i30cw!
In the meantime, how are current users of the following accessories finding their purchase?
iPod Direct Connect1. Is the iPod Direct Connect compatible with the iPhone?
2. I know you can control the songs on the steering wheel controls, but can you control it via:
i) the dashboard console
ii) the actual device itself (iPod or iPhone)
Bluetooth Phone Kit1. Is the Bluetooth Kit an add-on without installation or incorporated into the vehicle as a customized fixture?
2. With the iPhone 3G now Bluetooth Stereo capable (i.e. users can now play music to a Bluetooth headphone), has anyone tried streaming music to their Bluetooth Phone Kit installed on their i30 (and how did it go)?
Thanks for any or all parts of my questions. Apologies for the multi-part questions, but I appreciate your response to any part of it!
Cheers, Jason.

Hi, I'm a newbie to the forum and Hyundai cars. I,ve bought a new steel grey i30 CW wagon. I carry around a large, heavy musical instrument. Problem is, dragging it out of the cargo bay is going to put a scratch one careless day on the rear bumper. Has anyone seen the factory accessory "Fabric Rear Bumper Protector"? "FABRIC"??? What's confusing is that it's listed as an "interior" accessory. The last one on the Nissan X Trail was an aluminium job. Any knowledge on an aftermarket bumper protector that works?? Thanks.

Hi All,
I wonder if anybody can help me with my strange problem.
For the past 18 months my Hyundai i30 USB and CD player behaved perfectly. However, in the past few months, something strange happens. When I listen to a USB stick or a CD, occassionally the playing stops, and instead I get the FM radio tuned into a station while the display says "TRAFFIC INFO". I have to switch the radio back to USB/CD mode to resume play, however within a few seconds, the same situation repeats.
I tried browsing through the radio's Setup menu and disabling everything there, but to no effect.
Would anybody know what could be causing this behavior and how can I stop it?
Thanks,
Arie

Does anyone know where to source a Garret Turbo for a 1.6 CRDi, and maybe quote shipping to Eastern Europe?
I'll consider any source (Australia, Europe, Asia etc). Just need a price (and link if possible)

I've recently bought a hyundai i30 hatch. I'm thinking about getting a towbar fitted and a towbar mounted cycle rack for 3/4 bikes. The thing is, I haven't got a clue where to start and what the cost would be. Don't want to fit it myself.
I would prefer a detachable type so it looks neat when not in use (vain).
All advice re make of bars, equipment required (adapters/electrics), fitting costs, suitable tried and tested carriers (tilting ones look good so boot can open without detaching) would be very welcome. Can my hyundai carry 4 bikes this way or is it too much? Does fitting the towbar affect my 5 yr hyundai warranty?
thanks.

Hi all,
Just purchased an i30 in Australia and was looking forward to instant iPod compatibility.
Sadly here in Australia (as opposed to Europe/UK) we don't get the "Hyundai iPod full control cable' as standard. It commands $110 AUD as an option. But we do get a 512MB i30 labelled USB stick..... ? hmmmmmm
Can any current i30 owner post a picture of the 'exclusive' cable connections for the iPod or describe the same?
The manual warns one away from using Apple's original usb cable. Is this true?

Hi, i've joined to highlight there may be a batch problem with i30 SX Petrol Manual key chip receiver. My vehicle is currently experiencing the same ignition fault symptoms as another post on here that was diagnosed at tweed Hyundai in late 2008.
These symtoms are - car will only start occasionally (intermittent- this has only started in the last 2 weeks and is getting worse).
trouble starting - engine turns over fine but no ignition (there is fuel present)
engine power and electronic systems seems OK (once finally running - sometimes take 10 minutes).
Randomly won't start.
I bought my i30 SX in Adelaide in Dec 2007 which suggests it may be from the same batch as the tweed heads vehicle further down in this forum with the same problem (purchased in Jan 2008).
It's going in to Hyundai on Monday to get checked - will keep you posted

Hyundai People have installed a Parrot CK3100 hands free in my new i30, and while there is a conversation on the mobile outside temperature goes very high like 40-50ΊC. It goes down at reality some seconds after the conversation is over.
Does anyone else has this problem?

Could we please divide this forum up into a couple of subfora? Specifically, one for the i30 and one for the i30cw/Elantra Touring. I am trying to find information regarding the Touring, but it's kind of a tough go right now and I thought this idea would work great given the volume of users on this site. Thanks!

When driving, my turbo seems to "kick in" about 1500rpm no matter what gear I'm in. And before you say it not dress gear but mechanical gear!!
When in 1st or 2nd this has the effect of pushing me back in my seat. In 4th or 5th the pick up is instant and overtaking is a breeze.
Is turbo "kick in" factory set or can it be tweeked?

Bought my i30 1.4 GLS six months ago, just did 5000km and finaly the car is broken down.
I love everything about it, very satisfied with the sound insulation, built quality, suspension, consumption etc.
Only one issue remains : whenever I go over a moderate bumb I hear a noise that I think is coming from the steering rack or the left front wheel.
It sounds like metal to metal contact and it freaks me out.
Anyone has the same problem? Or a solution maybe?

Hello anyone with a towbar on their i30 (bob and ???)
My new towbar came with a neat plastic cover over the"slot" where you poke the tongue in. They just put the tongue with Towball attached in the boot and a couple of chain clasps in my console.
When I put the tongue in the slot two things happened:-
Firstly, when I pushed the pin up from underneath it came up against the base of the plastic bumper so I had to put real pressure under it so I could do the bright orange nut up tightly before putting the locking pin in place.
The when it was tight I could still wobble it slightly side to side. Noisy and would have been noticeable while driving. (major technical fix here, have pens to the ready... I jambed the clip part of a black pen cap in the gap (worked rather nicely but shouldn't have been required)
Then...later noticed a new sticker in my drivers door jamb with towing weights etc... and it says quote "for towing of trailers only" ...lucky I didn't buy that little caravan to put on my new block for amenities use!!!!
Never had a towbar before (except on my Company vehicles) but assumed all towbars were made equal???
Thats it for now (photos to come)
Rgds,
Dazz

I have a one year old SX i30 and for the entire time that I have had the car I've had a frequent metalic rattle (one of the dealer service guys described it as jingle bells). It took me awhile to realize the connection but it only makes the rattle when the car body gets warmed up by being out in the sun. I have worked with the dealer (been in 6 times on this issue now) after I raised it during my 15,000km service. They replaced one of the struts that opens the tailgate and, when that didn't fix it, they took the hatch to a smash repairer and redid many of the spot welds. They had the car for a couple days and then it smelled like paint for awhile afterward - they said they had rewelded things and put a padding between the various pieces guaranteeing it won't rattle. It, of couse, still rattles.
It still is rattling pretty much whenever I park it outside for awhile (there is an undercover car part at home and work so that is not all of the time). It is very high pitched (sounds like a bell) and loud enough where I can hear it over the radio.
Then there is the rattle that comes from my glove box (even when it is empty) as well.
I am not sure how to proceed - these rattles really get to me and I think the dealer is about done with working with me on it. Do I have to just live with it? I am a bit concerned that they found dodgy/broken spot welds on my hatch - if they didn't weld that together properly what else didn't they? Once they found those they got more cooperative and offered to have them fixed. I both got a sense that they considered the matter closed and didn't want to hear from me again and I am startting to feel guilty about a 7th visit on this issue. I suppose I could go to another dealer or maybe that is worse/suspicious?
I have been happy with the car otherwise but these two noises, the rattle from the back in particular, are killing it for me and making me regret the Hyundai purchase every time I hear them...
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance...

I have recently purchased the 2009 i30 SR manual and wanted to know what the 0-100 time is. I'm assuming its obviously faster the the 1.6CRdi. You may ask why I haven't tried it myself and that's because I havent finished running in the engine as of yet and want to wait until after the first service.

Wondering whether anyone else has had any issues with iPOD's crashing (requires recovery) when connected to the iPOD cable when the car is switched off.
We have had several occasions where the iPOD simply freezes after about 30 mins of inactivity. When the radio is working (and before the iPOD freezes) the radio functioons work fine, with access to folders, play lists etc.
When the problem occurs The iPOD is blank, and no buttons work. The radio shows "AUX Connected". When you connect the iPOD to the host computer, it installs a recovery USB driver and iTunes says that it must recover the iPOD to factory defaults. Doingso restores the iPOD to factory defaults, so you can then re-download all of your music to the device.
This happens without fail, after about 20 mins of the car being off.
Naturally no one in the service centre has had this issue before.
Radio SW version is V1.0.0 AUS

I have just had the PARROT CK3100 LCD Bluetooth kit installed by my local Hyundai dealer.
I found a picture on the Hyundai web site of this model mounted on the air vent to the right of the radio, and suggested they fit it there. They did, but as soon as I touch it it falls off. The mounting is obviously designed for horizontal bars rather than vertical, as in the I30.
Have they used the wrong mounting, or is it just not suitable?
Anyone else using this bit of kit?

I have had my I30 Estate (1.6 CRDi Comfort in UK) almost a week and in general love it, but I find the steering a bit vague. The self-centring is fairly weak, and it tends to wander if I don't concentrate. I expect I will get used to it.
It has 15in wheels with185/65 R15 Kumho tyres.
Anybody else noticed this?
Some people have criticised Kumho tyres - is this one of the criticisms?

From reading postings on this subject there seems to be a wide variation in fuel consumption.
Can you post your best and worst over the next few weeks and against each the type of driving i.e. town, motorway leisure, mixed etc
If enough enter details I'll collate and do a summary posting at the end of May.
This way we'll see if figures given by Hyundai are achieveable.

Anyone have any ideas?! Would be much appreciated!

hi all,
im new to this forum and a new i30 owner
sorry im starting on a negative but have a couple of problems with my i30 (has anyone else...please let me know)
1) filling up with petrol is a very slow process and i can not put the whole nozzle in because the pump handle just keeps clicking
2) have had to put my car in for a repair (its only 4 months old) the seat belt warning lights flash intermittenly, awaiting diagnostics on that
other than those 2 faults i am very happy with the car, its stylish, comfortable economical, and lush in vivid blue
thanks for reading and happy safe driving

I took my car to the company and after a check they changed a part from the steering wheel. after that my car has exactly the same problem. The company told my that a ECU update will fix the problem. Hi,
Anyone had problems with there rear door handle?
Both mine have snapped, the end cap has broken away in the same place around the screw mount.
They dont get any heavy handed use, if fact very little use at all.
The first one I just glued back on as I thought it was just a one off, and a distance to my dealer, and assume rip all the inner door cards off to fix.

Has anyone noticed a slight roll-back after applying the handbrake?
On coming to a stop on a slight hill and applying the handbrake, my car rolls back very slightly after I take my foot off the brake pedal. It feels as if there is some slack in the brake pads at the back.
I took the opportunity to investigate the rear brakes while I had the wheels off to grease the hubs (to stop the alloy wheels corroding and sticking) and I found what looks like a combined drum and disc arrangement. There is the expected disc brake caliper but the handbrake cable goes to the backplate, not the caliper.
I was able to rock both rear wheels slightly and could hear a slight clunk as the brake shoes take up the slack.
This seems to me to be a very reliable set up because the more usual rear brake caliper with integrated handbrake mechanism is very prone to seizing. The only drawback I can see is from the slight increase in unsprung weight, but then there's the excellent multilink rear suspension to deal with that.
It seems strange to me that the engineers would have designed in so much slack, has anyone else noticed this with their i30 ?

On another post I mentioned this issue. I have decided to start a new thread that deals specifically with this issue.
Problem
Twice since getting the i30 (7 days ago), it has failed to rev passed 3000rpm. It is stll drivable as it has normal performace up to 3000rpm. In fact, in 4th and 5th, we have never passed 2500rpm.
We have found in both instances that stopping and switching off the motor and then restarting it fixes the problem.
I phoned the service manager and reported the problem a day prior to the 1000k free service. he was pleased I did as it gave hime time to research the problem with Hyundai. Apparently, the problem has been reported in three other cases in Australia and no reason or answer has been found. They were hoping that some data from the ECU would on our vehicle would help them in finding the cause and a solution.
I am interested in finding out if anyone else has heard of this issue or experienced it themselves. It may go unnoticed if you do not rev passed 3000rpm in 1-3 gears. As a matter of course I ensure I take the engine passed 3000rpm on every trip just to see if the issue is present.
Also of note is that our vehicle has ESP fitted. I have tried turig off ESP, but it has no affect. We have looked for warning lights that might indicate an ECU problem, but there are none when the issue arises.

Picked up my brand new vivid blue i30 CRDi SLX this morning, bright and early of course!
Lovely car, as we all know.
Spent most of the morning playing around with the USB interface trying to get a handle on how it works, and optimising a 120GB Western Digital portable USB drive to work with it the easiest way.
My aim is to get it working with about 30GB of music on the drive. Here are some observations so far. If anyone has any useful comments, then please feel free to respond, I'd appreciate the help.
- The WD HDD powers fine via the 500mA supply from the i30 USB port, but the startup time of the HDD is long enough that the i30 head unit does not recognise it quickly enough when the ignition is first switched to ACC. The outcome of this is that, if you are driving along listening to the music on the USB drive, then stop and turn the car off, when you get back in and turn the car on again, the head unit does not see the USB drive for a while, then when it comes online it thinks a new USB drive has just been plugged in, searches through it and plays the default first track again instead of continuing play from the last point.
- When a small USB pen drive (the one that was supplied with the vehicle) is used, it commences play from the last point, as it is supposed to.
- The initial search time when 30GB of music is first attached is very long, maybe just under a minute, though I don't see a way to improve this.
- I have seen a report from someone else that they are able to access more than one partition on a drive. I don't seem to be able to do this at all. It always shows me only the files on the last (alphabetical drive letter, as Windows determines it) partition. How can it be made to see more than one partition?
- The biggest problem I have with the interface is the fact that it does not seem to handle nested folders. By which I mean, if you store the mp3s of an album in a folder called "sergeant pepper" for example, then store that folder within a folder called "the beatles", then store that under a folder called "B", then when the i30 reads the USB drive, it assigns all the tracks in an album to a root directory, with only the album folder to differentiate them. Whilst this is fine if you only have a GB or two of music (as was intended I suppose when they designed the interface), if you have 30GB of music and want to jump from ACDC to Paul Simon (quite a large change in mood I will agree) then you have a lot of button-pushing to do, it will take you 5 minutes! By storing mp3s under the alphabetical letter of the band's name, it is quicker, but you may still have 300 or 400 songs to scroll through.... I am guessing they wanted an interface that was simple enough that people wouldn't get distracted whilst driving etc., and of course for a small data set it works great, but causes a problem with a large data set. Any solutions?
Cheers,
Benjamin/

Have had our i30 1.6l crdi for about six months now and am very pleased with it. I have always serviced my own vehicles (often in remote areas) and have plenty of experience with diesel 4wd's in particular. However, looking at the i30 engine bay, I can't see how to easily spin off/on the diesel cartridge filter as it has a 'shroud' around it. Is there some sort of trick to this - am sure that it can't be too complex! Maybe one has to remove air intake pipes to make room? Certainly the oil filter is easy to replace and there is no reason that the diesel filter should not also be.
Any advice on diesel filter removal would be much appreciated!

Hi all,
Since May 2008 I am the proud owner of i30 1.6i Style version.
Recently regularly the car alarm sounds, whereas there is nothing wrong.
The car dealer thinks that this has to do with contact failure on the cap, doors or trunk. He can only guess not say exactly.
Does someone have experience with this and how has this been solved?
Thanks in advance.
Jurgen

Hi,
My TA function on the radio only seems to work now and again. When TA is selected the radio seems every now again (presumably when a TA message should come through) to suffer two short mutes (1 sec each), but it does not tune to the station with the TA.
Anybody else had TA problems
Thanks

Hey everybody,
I'm about to purhcase a Hyundai i30

4th hyundai in a row....
anyway
used to have a getz/click/hella and decided to change the speakers in the doors. I got the front ones changed with very little hassle as the door pannel was only held on with a few screws and studs.
After looking at the i30 in the show room, the door pannels seem to be held on in a different, higher quality way.
Can anybody help me on how to remove the door pannels, front and rear, so i can change the stock speakers to after market ones
Many thanks

Hi Folks,
Dave has kindly parted with some of his own folding stuff to pay for our own domain....
The good news is...If it's ok with you guys...
We would have a better and easier to find web address
www.i30Ownersclub.com
With no adds
Have total control
No relying on a third party (that can't provide guaranteed back up)
We would be able to back up and recover (in the event of a crash)
Dave is prepared to copy all the postings over
Only downside...
Need to re-register and save a different link...
IS THAT OK? Please bear with us on this we value your membership, friendship and input.
Cheers,
Dazz and Dave
Big thanks to Toxxic for his help so far in getting the New New site up and running

Hi. I just wondered if the "Solar control windscreen" blocks radio signals?
For example to a Navigation Unit attached to same.
Thank you...
