Check out the latest issue of Motor Trend. Comparison test between the Veracruz and the Lexus RX350. Believe it or not, the Veracruz wins!!!! It's about time. I figured even if the Veracruz was better, that the Lexus would have still won since Toyota pays off the car mags.

Hello All,
Anyone know if any after-market navigation double-din units work with the steering wheel control? For example, would the steering wheel controls work on a Pioneer Avic D2?
Thanks!

How is the Veracruz getting 18/25 mpg with its 3.8L V6?
The Santa Fe weighs 400 to 500 lbs less (depending on 5/7 seats and FWD/AWD), but it gets between 19/24 and 20/25 mpg (again, depending on the trim). And the Santa Fe is only a 3.3L V6.
That's two big factors (weight and engine size) that should put the Santa Fe way ahead in mileage, but the Veracruz just about matches it somehow.
Also- are the Veracruz numbers obtained from the new EPA system for measuring, or will its mileage go down next year along with all other vehicles?

I want to search by GPS co-ordinates in the Veracruz 2008 navi system. can I do that ??
I have obtained the co-ordinates of my destination from Google maps and want to reach that place using the navigation.
But I do not find the ability to search destination by co-ordinates in the navi system.
I thought all GPS systems allow you to reach a place if you know the coordinates of the place.
I am very disappointed.. :-(

Well, my windshield wipers stopped working in a Vancouver downpour last night.
I hear the motor cycling but the blades don't move. Stuck in the middle of the windshield.
Hyundai reliability is now certainly becoming questionable.

I thought I would post this HOWTO on changing the oil in a Vera Cruz. I was unable to find this info online with images
and thought it would be helpful to the community.
The Subject:
Our 2008 Limited Vera Cruz with 4034 Miles.

Here's what you'll need to change the oil:
Oil Filter with two o-rings ( Purolator Model L35610)
6+ quarts of Oil ( I used Fully Synthetic 10w30 Mobil 1)
10mm socket(for the engine cover bolts)
17mm socket(for the oil drain plug)
Drain Pan
Funnel

1. Pop the hood and use the 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the 6 engine cover bolts. Remove the engine cover and set it aside.

2. Dust off the top of the engine and surrounding areas. I used an old clean rag because I didn't feel like busting out the air compressor that
is stored in my shed. This should lessen the chance of dirt or debris entering the engine via the oil fill cap or the filter housing.
3. Locate the filter housing. It is on the right side of the engine as you are facing the engine bay.

4. Using your strong hand, twist the cap on the filter counter-clockwise to remove. There will be some residual oil on the cap and insert.
I had a plastic container ready to place the filter cap into so as not to drip on the engine. Set this to the side for the moment.

5. Losen the oil fill cap near the front of the engine. This will reduce the vaccuum and let the oil drain more freely.
6. Slide the oil drain pain under the front of the vehicle and grab your 17mm socket and ratchet and slide under the front of the vehicle.
The drain plug is on the right rear bottom side of the engine and is black in color. Remove it and let the oil drain.

7. While that is ocurring, break out the new filter and o-rings. Replace the o-rings on the filter cap. There is a small and a large o-ring.

7. Insert the new filter into the housing making sure that it seats down all the way.

8. Replace the filter cap and tighten firmly.
9. Check the oil drain pan. If the oil has drained to your liking, replace the drain plug and tighten to 32.5 Ft Lbs.

10. Hold a funnel over the oil fill hole and gracefully pour oil. I put in 5 quarts and the dipstick barely registered "low".
I ran the engine for a minute or so and then checked the dipstick again. It stil registered "low". I added another quart
which brought it to the "full" mark.
11. Replace the engine cover and be sure to tighten all 6 bolts.
Please let me know what you think of my HOWTO.

I have an 08 LTD Veracruz The other day when starting the car the A/C unit was not working. No lights or anything. We did hear the rear working. After grocery shopping it worked again.
Also, sometimes the steering wheel will not return back to fully recessed after turning the "key' off. If I quickly turn the ign. on and off again (ever so slightly with more force) it does return.

Hey all,
Where do I get this faceplate (or they call it center facia) for NAV unit to be integrated?
Please refer to the picture, I marked it with red box. If anyone got it, how much did you pay for the faceplate? If I get the factory Nav, is it plug-and-play or do I need to do anything? I have Infinity 6CD changer with NO RES and VC is 08 model.
I saw a pic of the factory unit and they seemed to have different connectors. I think mine has 24pin and 8pin connector.
Is there anyone who installed aftermarket Nav unit like Pioneer, Kenwood..etc? How difficult is it to install it yourself?
I like the factory unit but it doesn't have bluetooth and backup cam built in.
Anyway it all starts with faceplate so if anyone got it in the US, where and how much did you pay for it?
Thanks in advance

Hi all~
Recently(about 6 months), I changed my fuel grade from regular to premium(because of more high milage 16 mpg to 20 mpg). Since then I had problem which was misfire. It seems like every 1000mi show misfire. The dealer upgrade the computer system two times and so on. However, it keeps showing misfire.(4 times already)
Is there any correlation between fuel changing and misfiring?
I'm seriously thinking about changing a car.
by the way, I have 2007 SE AWD
Thank you

I own a 2008 Veracruz Limited FWD - almost 10K on in now so far mostly happy with the car (word of warning never break the rear window 1200.00 to replace it - don't ask me how it is embarrasing)
Anyway - is anyone else noticing a severe pull or tramline? My car is terrible even on pretty level raods - if I get on a road that has any tire grooves in it at all it will either pull to the right or left.
car has been aligned twice and tires replaced and it is still there and it is bad if you let go of the steering wheel it shoots right or left - I have found very few roads here in Ohio that are totally flat!
Dealer says everything is in spec and this is normal?????
BTW 18 inch wheels (with fake chrome covers
any help would be apprecaited

Wife has a 2008 VC, fully loaded. Like everyone else, we received two keyless entry/ignition fobs with the car. She keeps one in her purse and, since it's her car, uses it constantly. I have the other fob and leave it hanging on a keyholder under the kitchen cabinet, except when I'm driving the car. Her fob has performed perfectly. The one I'm using seems to eat batteries. Since we bought the car early in 2009, I've been thru 3 batteries in that fob and am now on my 4th. Her fob is still on the original battery.
Anyone have any ideas - or the same problem?

I just purchased a 2008 VC Limited and I have noticed that when I start off the line fast then let off the gas I get a hesitation and a down shift. Just wondering if this is a characteristic of the VC, or something isn't correct. It isn't consistent so I know it won't happen when I take it back to the dealer.

I just bought a 2008 limited VC with Nav and I have been trying to find the wiring harness to connect a Parrot 6100 BT. I found 1 company that will build this cable. Apparently it is complicated with all the amps that are installed. I will update this site when I get the cable and let everyone know if it works.

Hi, everyone. I am a newbie and have a quick question about my 2007 Vera Cruz. I have 22000 miles on the vehicle and generally am very pleased with it. Lately, however, I have noticed that as I slow down to stop, the transmission makes a "clunking noise" when down shifting to 1st gear and shifts hard into that gear. All other gears down shift smoothly and quietly. Am I seeing a development that I should be concerned about? Thanks for any advice.

Hi all, please kindly describe your driving experience in a Veracruz over 70 Mph.
I own a 2008 Veracruz Limited 2 WD with about 4000 miles on the car. Enjoy the car immensely other than the steering wheel vibrates over 70 Mph. The dealer inspected the drive shaft, etc (they are OK, verified by independent mechanic) and concluded the symptomps originated from the tires and wheels. The tires and wheels have been re-balanced 4 times by Hyundai, Firestone and Les Schwab, including using the Road Force Tire Balancing System.
My local Hyundai service manager is very suspicious about the wheel upgrades that come with the car. Hyundai calls it "chrome clad alloy wheel", basically it is a fancy chrome cover welded/fused into alloy wheel. He is requesting Hyundai to provide either new sets of the standard Limited alloy wheels or new sets of the "upgraded wheels" so they can be installed to my car, test theam and see if the problem goes away. As of today, the rep refused to authorize the request but did not provide other alternatives.
Anyway, I am sure the steering wheel vibration is not normal and I'll continue to press the issue till Hyjndai fixes it.
It'll be nice to have fellow owners share their experiences with the car
Thank you

Ok, I've spent the last month trying to figure out if there any differences between the 2010 and 2009 Veracruz?
I know the pain options have changed, I'm interested in a Black limited AWD, 09 was Black Diamod and 10 is Black Noir Pearl
Does anybody have information?
Also it's a major dissapointment that it doesn't have a backup camera.
Thanks,
BBjr

I have noticed that the interior door hanndles that are black are actually painted black - mine are peeling and flaking black paint. Is this a warranty issue? I also have the vinyl peeling from the door arm rests. The front were replaced under warranty but not the back. THis must make the dealer nuts when the quality issues like this show up. Anyone else with this problem? Thanks

OK,
So i purchased the 2009 Veracruz at the beginning of August. I like the vehicle overall, but was a little disappointed in the headlights. I was surprised that HIDs were not an option even for the limited model.
Today, I installed an Oracle H11 HID kit for the low beams. The high beams received a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra upgrade. The 194 "marker" lights that share the reflector with the high beams were replaced with Amber LED components.
I am pleased with the light output, and the way that the headlights look aesthetically. Due to excellent projector designs, the light cut off is well defined, and oncoming traffic is not blinded by the new setup.
Overall, I'm very pleased. I was surprised that I hadn't seen many others doing this yet. Maybe I've just missed it.

Hi everyone,
My wife and I are looking at a '08 or '09 Veracruz and a we have concerns about the accessability of the third row. We have one kid now (22 month boy) and another arriving in July. We definitely want both child's seats in the second row, but we'd really like access to the third row without removing the child's seats. If we have the carrier base (Graco) installed in the middle of the second row and the Britax behind the driver (both on the 60 side of the 40/60 split), will we be able to fold down the 40 side to access the back row? Does anyone have experience with this setup (or a similar one with just one seat installed in the middle)?
Thanks

My question is something I haven't tried yet but I'm sure someone has. Once the vehicle is started and the key fob removed (key out alarm going)how far can you get? Does it disable the car when it gets beyond a certain range? Does it do anything other than go till its shutoff or runs outs gas?

Hi all, I have an 08 VC that I got in Feb 08, and 15000 miles later, only one problem has come up. My AM radio is lousy with noise now, anything above 800 is garbled, and static filled, but mainly with the engine running, I can turn off the engine and most of the noise goes away. When I first got the VC, I was impressed with how quiet the AM was. I listen to 890 WLS in the mornings, and miss it a lot now that I can't hear them. I am thinking it has a bad ground somewhere, although I do notice that the XM radio will revert to saved slot 1 if I go from one channel to another, for example I have 40's through the 90's saved in 1-6 on XM 1. If I am on the 80's and want to go to the 90's or the 70's, sometimes it flips to the 40's.
Has anyone else encountered this? I am taking it to the dealer during lunch to setup an appointment, since I have the recall notice, might as well get all my gripes taken care of. It is a very short list, sometimes it doesn't idle smoothly, the rubber around the rear drivers side keeps coming loose, and the radio is noisy on AM. Other than that, this has been one of the best cars I have owned, and after 26 years of driving different cars, that says a lot.

Hate to be a pain - but could anyone who reads this that has an 08 Veracruz with leather - please post some pictures of your leather seats? Please see my other post that explains the problem here:
http://www.hyundai-forums.com/index.php?sh...c=36035&hl= I need other pictures in order to fight some more with Hyundai... apparently the districts service manager 'ruled' that nothing can be done... and Hyundai consumer affairs is telling me if he said that, then that is the final decision.
PLEASE HELP?? THANX!!!

Last week I went with my iX55 with V6 3.0 diesel engine, 240 hp and 451 Nm torque, to a dieselspecialist.
They fixed a 2-channel (turbo- and common railpressure) powerbox and now the engine has more than 280 hp and 550 Nm.
The car is not only just faster but especially way better driving/reacting !

Hi Guys,
Today i had a problem in one of my remotes in my veracrux 2008 Limited.
Problem is that the door is not unlocking when i press the button on car door (keyless entry)
The battery on it is OK, the remote itself is working when i press the lock/unlock from the remote itself, but when i press the button on the door, nothing happened.
also when i open the car and i can switch on the car with no problem while the key in my pocket, and it didn't show that "Key Out" message.
The problem only with locking/ unlocking the doors.
The spare remote is working fine, so probably the problem is on the main remote i have.
does anyone ever encountered such issue? or any idea how to fix that?
thanks a lot in advance.
Best Regards,
migo

Hello All, I am new here and hope to find useful info about my Veracruz.
I went to the beach the other day and got bogged in the sand. I pressed the 4WD lock and tried to get out but still got stuck further. At the end I got pulled out by my brothers Ford 4x4 truck. I am not experienced driver when it comes to 4WD but wish to learn. I have faith in my Veracruz, so can anyone please tell me what is the 4WD Lock button and what is the EPS OFF button. Also what is the best way to drive in the sand? What gear should I use, the D or get to the sport + - mode and be on 1st or 2nd gear??
Please answer me quick cause I plan to go again in 2 days and hopefully stay on the sand and not in it!! LOL
Thanks

Hello,
Has anyone else had any issues with the navigation system in their VC's. The other day I started the car and the navi and the stereo didn't work. The screen is stuck in the welcome screen that just displays' the word Hyundai. I've called the dealer and they have no clue, so I have an appt for next week, but I thought I would save myself the trip and try trouble shooting it here.
So far I've pulled the main audio fuse to check if it's broken. It's not. Aslo, I've pushed every button combination you can think of to see if there's a way to reset it. Neither worked.
I noticed from the fuse panel diagram there is another audio fuse, it's a 10a. However, the diagram on the panel cover does not correspond to the actual fuse box. Before I just started pulling 10a fuses I thought I'd check here first.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I ended up getting the nav software on my phone, and it seams to work better. Many more POI's and it hasnt been wrong yet. Does anyone know if there has been any updated software developed yet?

We had a CEL last week - it went on for my wife on her way home from work. The next day I drove it to the dealership to get an oil change and for them to look at the cause of the code (we are taking it tomorrow on a road trip - so I wanted to be sure everything was fine before doing it!).
Dealership did the oil change and said there was no computer record of a code - and that its "probably nothing".
2 days later the light came on again - this time I took it to my brother-in-law (a mechanic) who has an older laptop with OBDII reader. He hooked it up and found that there WAS a code - a "C3200". His software couldn't give us more info as it was an older version and did not even have a Veracruz listed.
He found some vague reference on the web to it being some sort of an Entertainment System error. However i can't find anything on it - I even looked at www.hmaservice.com and there is nothing there either.
Has anyone ever seen this code? Anyone know of a place to look this up?
I am going to be calling the dealership and giving them an earful for lying to me about the (lack of) code. I will ask them about the code too - but just thought I would ask here as well, is there a good source of codes online? I have found some - but they just seem to be limited to engine specific (P-) codes.

We just purchased an Veracruz this past weekend. We went for the 2009 GLS with the premium package 'negotiated' at 31K vs the 09 Limited with a sticker price at just under 38K. The only thing not in the package we want to add is Bluetooth. I have seen the aftermarket 'Hyundai compatible' (mounts in the sun glasses holder) selling for $325 via the internet. Does anyone have any experience with a Bluetooth add on for the Veracruz?

Hey can anyone tell me if they feel like their VeraCruz never goes all the way into overdrive?
At any speed when I take my foot off of the accelerator, the car slows down immediately. It never feels like my car can coast. It feels as it the car is in a lower gear and will not release. My speed will slow dramatically..... Gas mileage is fair at 21.5 on highway as I drive all highway miles. I have fried a set of Michelin Latitude tires in 38K miles as front end will not stay aligned. I have rotated and balanced every 3K miles. Of course, Hyundai and Michelin are no help here. Michelin is giving me 25% on new set of Michelin and they tell me LTX MS launch is next month, so I will replace with those instead of Latitudes.
Any help here would be great. I love this car, but problems with transmission and ESC are concerning.
Thanks

OK,
I took apart my brand new Veracruz dashboard so I could investigate the whole DVD/Navigation system. Keep in mind this is the USA Navigation made by LG. Not the one that is sold in the Middle East and Asia as it includes a TV/Aux in option. I wish mine had that as a feature but it does not.
To get the Dashboard apart use a butter knife and pry off the side black air vents starting at the top first. They just snap out. Unplug the Harzard Harness on the left one and the interior temperature sensor on the right one. Place them asside and get your favorite magnetic phillips head screw driver and remove the 6 screws from the silver plate. Once you do this unplug the Clock and the Airbag light from the top and rotate the bezel around and let it hang down. I did not need to unplug all the HVAC controls. Now you have 4 screws, 2 on each side of the radio. Remove these screws and gently pull the radio out. The only wire harness you need to remove is the top one but I found it easier to remove them all so I could get to the harness a little easier. The 32 pin harness is what you need.
The LG Model Number on this unit is LAN-8670NH
There isn't squat on the web about this unit, including the hmaservice.com website.
I did find a couple of Chinese websites talking about this unit being showcased at CES by searching google with the Model Number
Since I had no information I did the whole trial and error approach. I unplugged the top 32 pin connector from the radio and the DVD/RADIO/NAV still functioned however the XM stopped working. I drove the VC around the block while playing a DVD and the DVD continued to play without the warning message. That was a breakthrough as that told me the VSS was in that harness.
Considering there is only 12 wires in the 32 pin connector it was not that difficult to test. It took me about an hour and a half of testing to find the correct wire.
The wiring harness is as follows:
1 = Grey/Orange
2 = open
3 = open
4 = Blue
5 = Orange/Black
6 = open
7 = Green/Orange
8 = open
9 = open
10 = open
11 = open
12 = White
13 = Yellow
14 = open
15 = open
16 = open
17 = White/Grey
18 = open
19 = open
20 = Orange
21 = open
22 = open
23 = Black
24 = open
25 = Brown (this is the vss wire)
26 = Green
27 = open
28 = open
29 = Black
30 = open
31 = open
32 = open
I removed the pin from the connector so I did not have to cut the wire. I did this so I could put it back for Warranty claims etc.. I found that the middle of the white connector pops up slightly by using a paper clip which releases some of the pressure which hold the pins in. That was not the only thing holding them in though. The pins have a release that can only be compressed normally by using a special tool but I used a push pin needle and pushed it into the tiny square hole above the larger but still small hole on the end of the connector. It took some wiggling of the wire and needle at the same time in order to release the pin but it came out. I did this for 10 other pins before I got to the Brown one. (of course, I am just surprised it wasn't the last one I tried, knowing my luck)
So I taped of the pin and then taped it back to the rest of the wiring harness to protect it so I can put it back at any time.
Once you get the wire all taken care of snap that middle piece of the white plastic connector back in place and insert the harness back into the radio.
I Put everything back together and performed a test drive (only the 11th time, geesh) This one was enjoyable though, because everything worked including the DVD
If all was done correctly you should also have a functioning DVD Player while driving.
I do not accept any responsibility for anything that could possibly go wrong with either this procedure or any voiding of warranty or any accidents that might occur from the watching of a DVD while driving, etc..... Be smart and don't watch it while driving. Let your passengers enjoy it while you watch the road.
Good Luck!

In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? I’ll also be updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner.
Participants report repairs the month after they occur using a one-page survey form. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
I'd like to include the Veracruz in this research. All I need is for about a dozen owners to sign up, and I'll start collecting data. I'm already collecting data on most competitors, and will have results for the 2007 MDX, Acadia, and Outlook in August.
To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.
