Check out the latest issue of Motor Trend. Comparison test between the Veracruz and the Lexus RX350. Believe it or not, the Veracruz wins!!!! It's about time. I figured even if the Veracruz was better, that the Lexus would have still won since Toyota pays off the car mags.

Last couple months I have had alot of oncoming traffic flash me as if my brights were on. Also gotten some dirty looks when behind someone at a stop light. I have confirmed that high beams are not on but it does seem that aim is higher than it used to be.
Anyone else seen this on a Veracruz (2008)? Its out of warranty so don't want to take to dealer if possible.
Thank you

I'm looking for some answers to questions about the Infinity radio in the Veracruz. No one at the dealer is radio savvy so maybe someone else has the answers. I have the Infinity radio with the 7 speaker configuration (2 tweeters in the upper-door, 2 full ranges in the lower door, 2 full ranges in the 2nd row doors, the over-powering center speaker in the dash and the sub-woofer in back. Actually a 7.1 system). There are numerous threads regarding the less than stellar performance of the radio so I am trying to come up with work-arounds.
1) Right now the radio is equalized too much to the center speaker when using AM or FM. One thread suggested turning off Surround Sound but I am guessing that is a setting on the RES version as it is not on mine. Does anyone know if the dealer has access to any hidden set-up codes for the radio that might access this? (I assume it’s the same embedded chip for both radios).
2a) The RES and the NAV versions boast a 10 speaker 600 watt output. Does anyone know if the amp is within the radio or if it’s a separate amp? If it is separate, I assume I can buy it and add it to my existing radio?
2b) Where are the 3 additional speakers mounted when you get the RES version? Just wondering.
2c) If the extra audio amp is embedded in the RES chassis, could I switch my radio for an RES without having to add the read playout modules?
3) Has anyone found a way to boost the sub-woofer?
It’s amazing that once again a car company thinks the audio is a secondary issue. Ya..It’s a little better than some and falls short compared to others but all-in-all, it’s a crummy radio. I'd test a model with RES or NAV however the dealer does not have one on the lot. I assuming the extra power alone makes it a lot better.
Love the car...hate the radio.
Thanks

I thought I would post this HOWTO on changing the oil in a Vera Cruz. I was unable to find this info online with images
and thought it would be helpful to the community.
The Subject:
Our 2008 Limited Vera Cruz with 4034 Miles.

Here's what you'll need to change the oil:
Oil Filter with two o-rings ( Purolator Model L35610)
6+ quarts of Oil ( I used Fully Synthetic 10w30 Mobil 1)
10mm socket(for the engine cover bolts)
17mm socket(for the oil drain plug)
Drain Pan
Funnel

1. Pop the hood and use the 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the 6 engine cover bolts. Remove the engine cover and set it aside.

2. Dust off the top of the engine and surrounding areas. I used an old clean rag because I didn't feel like busting out the air compressor that
is stored in my shed. This should lessen the chance of dirt or debris entering the engine via the oil fill cap or the filter housing.
3. Locate the filter housing. It is on the right side of the engine as you are facing the engine bay.

4. Using your strong hand, twist the cap on the filter counter-clockwise to remove. There will be some residual oil on the cap and insert.
I had a plastic container ready to place the filter cap into so as not to drip on the engine. Set this to the side for the moment.

5. Losen the oil fill cap near the front of the engine. This will reduce the vaccuum and let the oil drain more freely.
6. Slide the oil drain pain under the front of the vehicle and grab your 17mm socket and ratchet and slide under the front of the vehicle.
The drain plug is on the right rear bottom side of the engine and is black in color. Remove it and let the oil drain.

7. While that is ocurring, break out the new filter and o-rings. Replace the o-rings on the filter cap. There is a small and a large o-ring.

7. Insert the new filter into the housing making sure that it seats down all the way.

8. Replace the filter cap and tighten firmly.
9. Check the oil drain pan. If the oil has drained to your liking, replace the drain plug and tighten to 32.5 Ft Lbs.

10. Hold a funnel over the oil fill hole and gracefully pour oil. I put in 5 quarts and the dipstick barely registered "low".
I ran the engine for a minute or so and then checked the dipstick again. It stil registered "low". I added another quart
which brought it to the "full" mark.
11. Replace the engine cover and be sure to tighten all 6 bolts.
Please let me know what you think of my HOWTO.

I just purchased a 2008 VC Limited and I have noticed that when I start off the line fast then let off the gas I get a hesitation and a down shift. Just wondering if this is a characteristic of the VC, or something isn't correct. It isn't consistent so I know it won't happen when I take it back to the dealer.

I was driving on a trip recently at night and used the purple mood light to illuminate the center console area.
When we arrived at our destination, I ;pcked and armed the vehicle and the front headlights turned off as usual.
However, when we opened the car the next morning, I noticed the mood light was still on. The light area was hot, so I assume it was on all night.
Anyone else have this problem, or does your mood light turn off when you exit the vehicle and lock the doors?
Thanks

Anybody knows where to get a double din dash kit for installing an aftermarket in dash GPS? The factory in-dash GPS is lacking compared to units offered by Pioneer, Kenwood and Eclipse, ie: no IPOD control, built-in bluetooth and back-up camera connection.

I am looking at the hard rubber cargo tray to protect the back carpet. I've had these for other cars I owned and they are really nice. Heres the question: The place I usually buy from (Weathertech) has about a 2 inch ridge that come up around the edges so that not only is your carpet protected but if something spills, the liquid if containted. I have been looking at the Hyundai pictures of their cargo mat and it is just not clear if it has a lip or not. It appears there is definitly not a lip along the back edge but the sides are not clear either.
If anyone purchased the Hyundai verson, can you tell me if it has a lip around the edge or is the cargo mat just flat.

Wife has a 2008 VC, fully loaded. Like everyone else, we received two keyless entry/ignition fobs with the car. She keeps one in her purse and, since it's her car, uses it constantly. I have the other fob and leave it hanging on a keyholder under the kitchen cabinet, except when I'm driving the car. Her fob has performed perfectly. The one I'm using seems to eat batteries. Since we bought the car early in 2009, I've been thru 3 batteries in that fob and am now on my 4th. Her fob is still on the original battery.
Anyone have any ideas - or the same problem?

,
When I press the brake during slow movement and stop condition in a queue or traffic jam the brake paddle gets lower and lower until it reach failure, It is new car 2008 model and brake pad changed recently which I thought it might be the cause of problem, the local mechanics requested me to change brake assembly kit and promised this problem will disappears.
When I went to agent, he simply told me to pay nearly 400 us$ for repair,
When I enquired about it the problem and why it should happen to a new car , since this is not a consumable part,
no comment is given.
I think this problem should be dealt with, since it can cause accidents. And I am worried because my children are always with me in the car
Any one else faced similar problem or have similar issue please share,

I love my new Veracruz but have two annoying issues that I would like some feedback on
Ignition : It takes too many turns of the engine to start the veracruz. Around 80% of the time it will not start unless I try to do it a second time. My dealer has checked it out but cannot find any fault with the starter. I think it might have something to do with the fuel line but they also discounted that.
Radio: It I change the radion settings ( bass / treble etc) and then turn off the cra upon restart it loses these settings and reverts back to the old ones. This also occurs with radio stations and cd tracks.
Please help!!!

Ok, I've spent the last month trying to figure out if there any differences between the 2010 and 2009 Veracruz?
I know the pain options have changed, I'm interested in a Black limited AWD, 09 was Black Diamod and 10 is Black Noir Pearl
Does anybody have information?
Also it's a major dissapointment that it doesn't have a backup camera.
Thanks,

How is the Veracruz getting 18/25 mpg with its 3.8L V6?
The Santa Fe weighs 400 to 500 lbs less (depending on 5/7 seats and FWD/AWD), but it gets between 19/24 and 20/25 mpg (again, depending on the trim). And the Santa Fe is only a 3.3L V6.
That's two big factors (weight and engine size) that should put the Santa Fe way ahead in mileage, but the Veracruz just about matches it somehow.
Also- are the Veracruz numbers obtained from the new EPA system for measuring, or will its mileage go down next year along with all other vehicles?

Hi everyone,
My wife and I are looking at a '08 or '09 Veracruz and a we have concerns about the accessability of the third row. We have one kid now (22 month boy) and another arriving in July. We definitely want both child's seats in the second row, but we'd really like access to the third row without removing the child's seats. If we have the carrier base (Graco) installed in the middle of the second row and the Britax behind the driver (both on the 60 side of the 40/60 split), will we be able to fold down the 40 side to access the back row? Does anyone have experience with this setup (or a similar one with just one seat installed in the middle)?
Thanks

I just purchased a 2010 Veracruz and found the standard radio on the limited very disapointing. Poor bass response and sound appears to come mostly from the speakers on top of the dasboard. Sound from the tuner is especially poor. XM is good and USB good too, CD's OK. Not what i expected from a 315 watt Infinity system in the luxury version. Any body have similar thought?

I really got a chance to test the all weather performance of my AWD Veracruz this season. 3 semi-apocalyptic snow storms around 40" total in my area and the Veracruz handled each one superbly. My gf gets cabin fever very easily so we ended up going out during the heavy part of downpours and the Veracruz didn't hesitate for a minute. While the 2WDs didn't have a chance, and even saw some 4WD snow plows get stuck we were still happily cruising along. I just turned on the AWD lock and we were ready to go.
We went up and down hills and even had to bust through a snow embankment that the plows left behind, it was easily 3-4 feet high. The ground clearance helped as well. Even though work was optional on these days I was still able to travel the 30 miles through back roads to get to work, no problem. ABS and ESC worked rather well letting me steer around a stuck car on a downhill slope, sure the Veracruz slid down the hill but I could control the slide and avoided an accident.
These are the kind of conditions my old Infiniti would have nightmares about, so I'm glad I picked up a Veracruz last summer. I think I'll go skiing this weekend!

My veracruz has been leaking oil and the dealer contacted me on Friday to let me know...that it wasnt the rear main seal that was bad but it was actually a bolt that holds the engine to the rear of the vehicle that was drilled right into the block from the factory causing the leak.....to say Im **** is an understatement......what a terrible joke for quality control.....they ordered me a new engine......12000 miles on it.....

Hello All, I am new here and hope to find useful info about my Veracruz.
I went to the beach the other day and got bogged in the sand. I pressed the 4WD lock and tried to get out but still got stuck further. At the end I got pulled out by my brothers Ford 4x4 truck. I am not experienced driver when it comes to 4WD but wish to learn. I have faith in my Veracruz, so can anyone please tell me what is the 4WD Lock button and what is the EPS OFF button. Also what is the best way to drive in the sand? What gear should I use, the D or get to the sport + - mode and be on 1st or 2nd gear??
Please answer me quick cause I plan to go again in 2 days and hopefully stay on the sand and not in it!! LOL
Thanks

I have a 2007 Hyundai Veracruz GLS, standard CD player, single disc. It started skipping on all CD's. I used a lens cleaner, took the unit out and blew it out with compressed air, and also cleaned the lens gently with a cotton swab and alcohol. After trying all of this it still skips, sometimes worse than others. It's not just when it's moving, the car can be parked and do this? Any suggestions? It's out of warranty, so if it goes back to the dealer, i know it's gonna cost!!

I took in the Veracruz for 30K service (actual mileage was 33K). In addition to flushing the fluids and such, the dealer replaced the rear brake pads and turned the rotors, found one wheel out of balance, aligned the car, replaced the air and cabin air filter (the cabin filter was $99). Long story short, the tab was $1120. I have nothing to prove that I was taken but the bill seems high. Any thoughts?

OK,
So i purchased the 2009 Veracruz at the beginning of August. I like the vehicle overall, but was a little disappointed in the headlights. I was surprised that HIDs were not an option even for the limited model.
Today, I installed an Oracle H11 HID kit for the low beams. The high beams received a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra upgrade. The 194 "marker" lights that share the reflector with the high beams were replaced with Amber LED components.
I am pleased with the light output, and the way that the headlights look aesthetically. Due to excellent projector designs, the light cut off is well defined, and oncoming traffic is not blinded by the new setup.
Overall, I'm very pleased. I was surprised that I hadn't seen many others doing this yet. Maybe I've just missed it.

So tonight the button for the lift gate decided to go kaput. I'm talking about the actual button on the liftgate itself that you'd use to close the gate. The dash button still works, as does the key fob button.
Is there maybe a fuse somewhere? The button still lights up blue and beeps when you push it, the gate just doesnt close.

Recently on a trip to Flagstaff AZ, going up a long hill with a 7% grade. The VC just shut off. Wouldn't restart after 15 mintues. Called the roadside service and got towed to a dealership in Flagstaff. Fault code indicated fuel starvation. Tech tells me if I have 1/4 tank or less in tank and at that incline carputer thought I was out of gas so it shut off the engine. Anybody else have this issue yet?
Tech also told me to disconnect battery for 10 secs, reconnect then it should reset the sensor and let me keep going. Not a good deal with 1/4 tank left eh???

Hi all, please kindly describe your driving experience in a Veracruz over 70 Mph.
I own a 2008 Veracruz Limited 2 WD with about 4000 miles on the car. Enjoy the car immensely other than the steering wheel vibrates over 70 Mph. The dealer inspected the drive shaft, etc (they are OK, verified by independent mechanic) and concluded the symptomps originated from the tires and wheels. The tires and wheels have been re-balanced 4 times by Hyundai, Firestone and Les Schwab, including using the Road Force Tire Balancing System.
My local Hyundai service manager is very suspicious about the wheel upgrades that come with the car. Hyundai calls it "chrome clad alloy wheel", basically it is a fancy chrome cover welded/fused into alloy wheel. He is requesting Hyundai to provide either new sets of the standard Limited alloy wheels or new sets of the "upgraded wheels" so they can be installed to my car, test theam and see if the problem goes away. As of today, the rep refused to authorize the request but did not provide other alternatives.
Anyway, I am sure the steering wheel vibration is not normal and I'll continue to press the issue till Hyjndai fixes it.
It'll be nice to have fellow owners share their experiences with the car
Thank you

I want to search by GPS co-ordinates in the Veracruz 2008 navi system. can I do that ??
I have obtained the co-ordinates of my destination from Google maps and want to reach that place using the navigation.
But I do not find the ability to search destination by co-ordinates in the navi system.
I thought all GPS systems allow you to reach a place if you know the coordinates of the place.
I am very disappointed.. :-(

I have an 08 LTD Veracruz The other day when starting the car the A/C unit was not working. No lights or anything. We did hear the rear working. After grocery shopping it worked again.
Also, sometimes the steering wheel will not return back to fully recessed after turning the "key' off. If I quickly turn the ign. on and off again (ever so slightly with more force) it does return.

Hey all,
Where do I get this faceplate (or they call it center facia) for NAV unit to be integrated?
Please refer to the picture, I marked it with red box. If anyone got it, how much did you pay for the faceplate? If I get the factory Nav, is it plug-and-play or do I need to do anything? I have Infinity 6CD changer with NO RES and VC is 08 model.
I saw a pic of the factory unit and they seemed to have different connectors. I think mine has 24pin and 8pin connector.
Is there anyone who installed aftermarket Nav unit like Pioneer, Kenwood..etc? How difficult is it to install it yourself?
I like the factory unit but it doesn't have bluetooth and backup cam built in.
Anyway it all starts with faceplate so if anyone got it in the US, where and how much did you pay for it?
Thanks in advance

Hi all~
Recently(about 6 months), I changed my fuel grade from regular to premium(because of more high milage 16 mpg to 20 mpg). Since then I had problem which was misfire. It seems like every 1000mi show misfire. The dealer upgrade the computer system two times and so on. However, it keeps showing misfire.(4 times already)
Is there any correlation between fuel changing and misfiring?
I'm seriously thinking about changing a car.
by the way, I have 2007 SE AWD
Thank you

I own a 2008 Veracruz Limited FWD - almost 10K on in now so far mostly happy with the car (word of warning never break the rear window 1200.00 to replace it - don't ask me how it is embarrasing)
Anyway - is anyone else noticing a severe pull or tramline? My car is terrible even on pretty level raods - if I get on a road that has any tire grooves in it at all it will either pull to the right or left.
car has been aligned twice and tires replaced and it is still there and it is bad if you let go of the steering wheel it shoots right or left - I have found very few roads here in Ohio that are totally flat!
Dealer says everything is in spec and this is normal?????
BTW 18 inch wheels (with fake chrome covers
any help would be apprecaited

I just bought a 2008 limited VC with Nav and I have been trying to find the wiring harness to connect a Parrot 6100 BT. I found 1 company that will build this cable. Apparently it is complicated with all the amps that are installed. I will update this site when I get the cable and let everyone know if it works.

Hi, everyone. I am a newbie and have a quick question about my 2007 Vera Cruz. I have 22000 miles on the vehicle and generally am very pleased with it. Lately, however, I have noticed that as I slow down to stop, the transmission makes a "clunking noise" when down shifting to 1st gear and shifts hard into that gear. All other gears down shift smoothly and quietly. Am I seeing a development that I should be concerned about? Thanks for any advice.

Does anyone know if there is a good company that makes a bull bar for a VC? I have an 08 limited AWD that I'd like to get one for. Post a link or just give me a name that I can track one down with.
Thanks
