I purchased a 2002 Santa Fe new and had no problems with it until last summer. Went out to start vehicle and it was dead. Got boosted and managed to make it to the dealership. It was determined that the alternator needed replacement and this was done. No problems until around October when the weather started to get cold. Consistantly waking up to dead battery. Took it into dealership again a couple times they determined finally that radio and clock were drawing too much power for some reason even when off (3 amps I beleive they said) which was draining the battery. Ended up downloading a program that was only supposed to be for American vehicles to fix a battery draining problem. This worked for a time. Started to have occasional battery problems, fixed with a boost. Last week radio and clock stopped working completely and now vehicle once again is dead. Need a boost every time I try to start (off course this happens on a weekend when dealership is closed!!!!

)
I had expressed concern about the battery being fried by the alternator, but they said it was charging fine. I have 30,000 kms left on the full extended warranty I purchased and would like to get this problem fixed once and for all. Anyone with any suggestions?

I just purchased my Santa Fe LX about 3 weeks ago and for the most part so far, I love the vehicle, except for the one minor defect of the passenger side seat belt being on backwards, heh.
Anyway I think the factory sound in the vehicle is pretty bad, the Monsoon system. With that said I was planning on removing the head unit and replacing it with a Pioneer DEH-P80MP with XM Satellite radio. My only problem is I have absolutely no idea on how to remove the stock unit. I cannot see any screws or tabs in plain sight.
Has anyone removed this stereo that may be able to provide some help please?

I have a 2003 Santa Fe with 24K miles. 3.5 V6. Recently, the rear brakes have begun making a piercing squeal/whistle after 15 to 20 minutes of driving. The dealer told me this is something that happens due to brake dust buildup. I pulled both rear wheels, cleaned all the components. Even so, when putting the pads back into the clips, they are really tight. The dealer said that when the brakes get hot, they expand, and come into contact with the rotors. He also said this is not a covered item, but a chargeable maintenance item. Problem is, cleaning doesn't seem to do anything. I just can't believe something like this normal, yet a quick look at this forum shows many others having a similar problem. What if anything can I do? The pads aren't even 50% worn. I think the pads are too tight in the clips, but then, if they were loose, they'd rattle. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. This noise is horrible.
Thanks,
-Jeff

I noticed a few days ago it took several attempts to set the cruise control. The on/off button works fine but when I hit set it wouldn't take for a while. I tried to use the cruise control the other day and it would not set at all even after turning the car on and off. My husband used the car the next day and it worked fine. Anyone having problems with the cruise control?

Well, I have been having problems with my '01 Santa fe for awhile now. It has about 120,000 miles on it, 2.7L auto. I have changed the ECM but I am still having these problems and I have brought this to the dealer and they told me to cheng the ECM which I did. I am having alot of problems now, the dealer is no help and they just keep giving me the run around. You can see my other posts to see the discription of my problems, but here is a list of the codes that it is throwing out at me.....
P0501
P1529
P0302
P0306
P0300
P0500
P0501
Now for some reason it did give the P0501 code twice and in this oder? Can some please help me fix this thing, or should I just rebuild the motor, 'cause that is what it seems like I am doind anyways.
Thanks,
J

I have a 2005 Santa Fee, bought new in July 2005, shortly after buying it, the rubber around the back drivers seat door came completly loose, took it in, it came off again and tore, took it in again it fell off, the rubber around the grill in the front has come loose and is hanging on, they fixed that this last time, whats going on, it also has a a slipping transmission which they have not found how to fix and the clock totally stopped it was also repaired the last and 4th repair time. I am taking it in again this week for the rubber off the door, the transmission slipping. I am so discouraged with the car but I cannot trade, at this point too soon. Any ideas what I can do. Discouraged and disappointed.

[FONT=Times][COLOR=blue] I have an intermittant, although more on than off alarm on my 2002 Santa Fe.
The Battery light and Brake light come on together while driving. No chime from the brake lever being engaged so I have to assume it is an alarm designating some problem. It seems to have happened AFTER the expensive 60k checkup.
Anybody know the alarm codes or know where I can get them?
Thanks, BW3

If Hynundai replaced Throttle Position sensors in my Santa Fe several times, and now the vechile needs a transmission how relative do you think the two are? Do you think defective TPSs could have damamged transmission? They replaced them for over a 9,000 miles period.

I have a 2001 Santa with a 2.7L. Auto. I have so far replaced the ECM, TPS, Crank shaft sensor. I did the recall for the O2 sensors, and a complete tune up. When I am at a stop while driveing no matter what it seems to spit and sputer, like it is almost going to die, but it is not consistance. I'm at a lost, I have no Idea what to do, It has around 113,000 Miles on it. it seems to happens more often when there is moister in the air.
This all started awhile ago when I brought it to the dealer, they told me that Cyclinder 4 was not comunicating with the ECM so I had the ECM changed, well it didn't seem to work, and the dealer in this area is a real pr**ks. The only error codes that I was getting is a Speed Sensor, and the TPS. I just replaced the TPS.
Any help would be great.....
Thanks,
Jeremy

Ok now I am a little ticked, in Canada the warrenty for my Santa Fe is 5 years 100,000 Klm. In the US it is 10 years 100,000 miles, what gives with this? Shouldn't the warrenty be the same all over? Anybody overseas have something different?

Hello,
I have a 2004 Santa Fe and for the second time I have been unable to fuel it. The first time it was caused by a faulty canister valve. I just called again to schedule it for maintenance and was told that I was the first they know of to have this problem.
Other than this, we have really enjoyed our Santa Fe

Hi all I own a Santa Fe 2.0 diesel which has to work & play towing my boat has anyone out there fitted a push bar to the front end ? As this would make launch & recovery of my boat easy. To date we have covered 28,500 miles with only one minor problem. Early 2001 model anti roll bar bushes slipped out of their holders (knocking noise & vibration felt through passenger footwell ) new modified type bigger bushes & holders fitted under warranty. I have fitted the towbar & reversing sensors myself and am pleased with our average fuel consumption 35 to 40 mpg . My minor dislikes what no deadlocks ! some switches unlite and fiddly rear blind engage brackets not enough V shaped lead in.

Without a certain cause my mechanic has told me that I need to replace my car's ECM. I have found out it is quite costly to do so so Iam looking to buy the part myself on the internet. What would you recommend? I hae a 2001 2WD Santa Fe 2.4.
also what is the difference between the ECM and the ECU?
Any advise is appreciated.

I am looking to install some component speakers into the front doors and I would like to know if there is any trick to removing the front door panels. I have found the screw closest to the door hinge and unsnapped the bottom of the door but I get too much tension when trying to remove the rest of the door. Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings from Madrid
please help..I was wondering if anybody can help me on these procedure, and tell me if this can be done on a 2001 2.4L Santa that's sputtering and CEL on with what it seems (3 cylinders, even 2). I changed the plugs for platinum and the wiring seems okey. It still stalls so I wonder if it could be one of the 2 coils on top of the plugs?. Is it logical? Can I just unplug one of the coils alternatevely with the engine running? Is that logic? Could I mess something up if I do that???.
The shop is full until the 19th :-(
I would appreciate any input on the subject
Thanks in advance for the response

I have a '03 Santa Fe that is currently not "blowing" any air (either hot or cold) out of the vents when we have the air or heat on... we can feel the cool air or warm air out of the vents but when we turn the dial to increase the volume of air that comes out nothing changes and it remains at a trickle. I read in another thread that someone else started about a "click" or something when you turn on the A/C and we don't have any noise (ie clicking of the compressor trying to start up...) We checked the fuses and they all seem to be ok. Does anyone know what the problem could be or where we should be starting to look for the problem? My father-in-law is a mechanic and he is helping me out but I was hoping to be able to point him in the right direction so not to waste too much of his time. Is there a wiring diagram anywhere that I could download and print off to help us out?

my santa fe v6 2005 would not start yesterday. I had been away on holiday and the car was started a week ago and it started first time. Yesterday the engine just kept turning over and over. After quite a long time it caught, backfired and started with lots of vapour out the exhaust!! Took it for a run. Today its fine
Any ideas on this one?

2002 Santa Fe. The Grey rubber coating on the steering wheel is
crumbling off. Mostly on the top where the sun hits it the most,
but there are lots of cracks all over. It looks really bad. I am
thinking of getting a leather wrap for the wheel. I am hesitant
to get another steering wheel due to the cost and the thought
that it will just happen again in 3 or so years.
Anyone else have this problem? I live near Victoria, BC, so we
don't really get high temperatures and blazing sun. At least not
like the US southwest.
Thanks!

On the throttle there are two cables going to it. One goes to the Pedel, what is the other one going to, and would it have anything to do with a skipping feeling in the truck? Is there a way that I can readjust that cable or is there an adjustment for it???

Hi just bought an 05 Santa Fe with the 2.7 in it and now have 1200 klm's on it. I checked the oil yesterday and found it down almost a liter, there are no visable leaks. Now I have had other cars from new that used no oil at all right from the first oil change (95 Dodge Caravan with 115000 never used a drop of oil between changes) also the first oil change is 6000klm where all my other cars was 1500klm on the first change. Does Hyundai not use a break in oil? or do I have a lemon. Have not checked with the dealer yet as I expect I will get the "they all use oil at first until they break in" bit. Anybody experience this?
Thanks
Chris

We have had our Santa Fe almost a year now. Within the past month, the battery had been drained on us about 4 or 5 times. After we use it, and if it isn't run in 2-3 days, it is dead when you go to start it. Just got towed to the dealer again today. Last time they replaced the battery, but obviously that didn't help. Nothing is being left on, so we don't know what is causing the battery to drain. Has anyone else seen anything similar? Thanks.

greetings everyone
my santa fe 2005 v6 2.7 auto has had two problems since delivery. It seems to "hunt"for a gear in 4th ( it is the 4 gear auto version)and the fuel consumption, urban cycle is 16l/100km compared to about 12l/100km on a long drive.
have had the car at Hyundai many times to correct situation but the consumption remains high as well as the hunting...they seem to have lost interest in fixing this now. Anyone else have the same problem?? and how was it cured?

this afternoon a friend and i decided to replace the fuel filter in my wifes santa fe. she has been experiencing problems with a decrease in miles per tank of gas for the last 3 tanks. recently the car has lost most of its power and gives off this high pitched wine while giving it gas.
so we started with the filter. after dropping the tank and replacing the filter and putting everything back where it belonged, we went from a running car to a car that now gets no fuel. (and yes we did notize that we could have just lifted the back seats, pulled back some carpet and got the fuel filter that way)
we removed the filter and pump again and verified that the pump it self is working, it did work. we checked and checked to make sure that we had all the wires and hoses back in the orginal location.
we even verified that it was a fuel and not a spark problem.
so any ideas?
on other question. in the santa fe when you turn the key on, but not all the way over, should the fuel pump kick on then, or does it just kick on when you turn the engine over?
thanks

This probably sounds very stupid, but I'm wondering how I can discover my USA Santa Fe's Year? Is it 2002 or 2003? Ignoring the handbook which was a (dud?) replacement by the garage, is there some label on the chasis or engine that I can find? Thanks for any help...
FYI, the car is a 2.4 base model, manual-shift bought new in New Jersey in April 2003. And it's great...!

Hello everyone
One quick question. Tight now, my A/C is working okey, it is cooling the cabin and all, but the air flow seems reduced. Does anyone know why this happens. I thought it was the cabin paper filter but the 2001 model did'n come with one installed.
Could it be a loose belt? blower about to die? freon gas (I don't thnik so becuse it cools alrite? compressor about to die? BTW where is the blower located? is it easy to change or is it a major process?
thanks in advance and regards
Simon

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the door panel on my Sante fe. The drivers window rattles bad if you close the door with the window rolled down. I removed every screw I could find, even the ones behind the round caps that you remove and the one behind the plastic cover behind the door handle. The panel still will not budge, is the special tools required or more hidden screws or just a trick to get it off. Also has anyone heard of or experienced this problem?
It has power windows and locks.

My question is has anyone gotten the doors to lock automatically when putting it in gear or up to a certain speed?
I purchased an 05 Santa Fe GLS. They now have it so the drivers door only is unlocked on the first push of the remote. Thats an improvement over the 03 Sonata that unlocked all doors first push. But I miss the auto lock that I had on my Dodge van. Any suggestions?

Greetings all,
AC jsut went out in PHX and its hot!!!!! The guy at the Father son type repair shop said my A/C Compressor is bad. Hyundai shop wanted 150$ just to look at it. Basically when I turn on the AC it seems to run fine but no cool air comes out. I dont think he did any tests on it. Bascially he just seemed confident thats what was wrong. Anyway, He could not find a compressor at any of the shops and the only ones I can locate are Junk Yards.
Does anyone know if the same compressors are used in any other Santa fe besides the 2001? Im having alot more luck finding a 2002 compressor. The guy at the shop told me if I can find one he'd put it in for 200$. Any suggestions where to look and should I get a second opinion on AC? THX

Hi everyone
Have a 2003 Santa Fe...
Can anybody recommend something to clean the rubber gaskets around the door windows? The ones at the bottoms of my windows are looking "old" (i.e. almost have a "rusty" or "moldy" appearance), but my Hyundai is only 2 yrs old.
Thanks for any suggestions
