Hello Everyone,
2001 Sante Fe 140,000Mi
Need some help again. My A/C compressor is shot, but no money to replace that.
The last few weeks or so my fan would only really blow on high, there was only a trickle coming out of the vents when on any setting but high. Occasionally it would not blow at all unless I wiggled the knob a bit in the dash. Then it would come on.
Today however nothing at all. From reading here in the forum I am guessing it is the blower switch. Is this what you guys are talking about?

Thanks in adavnce,

I'm changing my front brake pads out on my 2003 SantaFe today and I was wondering if there are any things I need to watch out for or be carefull with?
I've done minor repair work on other vehicles with one other disc brake pad replacement on another vehicle we own. The brake pad replacement seemd rather straightforward when I did it.
Is there anything specific to the SantaFe that I need to be carefull with or is it basically the same procedure? Such as any torque specs I have to worry about for the wheel lug nuts or any of the brake caliper hardware?
Is there a step by step procedure that I can reference?

I have a very annoying problem when I go to put gas into my Santa Fe V6 2002.
I put the nozzle in and after like ten seconds the nozzle shuts off. And this is the same thing at every gas station I go. So my logic is telling me that it's not the nozzles at the gasstations. Do you guys have any idea what causes this problem ?
I'll appreciate your input, 'cause to fill up a thank will take me an eternity !
Thanks,

Was under the truck the other day and noticed that the rack was leaking from the back side at a point where I can't see it. Called the service dept and they gave me an appointment two weeks from now to just look at it as they indicated they were busy , can just imagine if they have to order parts when they will get to it. Has anybody else had a problem with a leaking rack. Truck only has 24K on it, and what type of power steering fluid does it use. Manual says something about Hyndai power steering fluid.
Thanks

Have a 2001 Santa Fe with approximately 120,000 miles. It is 2WD automatic transmission. While driving we have been noticing that the tranny seems to stay in 2nd and not changing to 3rd to make a smooth change in gear. If we use the manual mode of the transmission, we have no problem going from 2nd to 3rd to 4th. This happens only when we are in drive. Any idea what this can be and is it something that can be fixed without taking it to a transmission specialist knowing that they will say "It needs an overhaul" That is our experience anyway. Thanks.

I have an 04 Santa Fe, I was wondering when it comes to changing your oil intervals is it more important to pay attention to the number of km's or the number of months.
As they say change it every 5000 km's or every 3 months.
In three months I never get close to 5000 km's, so far now for the 3 months I did 2500 km's.

Hello all,
Just to let everyone know my ABS problem how it started and how it got fixed and the route in between.
About two months into owning our Santa FE 2.0 TD we went on a 155 + mile journey, the ABS light came on, didn't think anything of it as it went off after the ignition switched off. After a month the light was coming on more regularly and then we started having a mechanical whirring sound which stopped when the brakes were touched.
Our local garage had a look and couldn't see anything wrong. A week or so later the light was regularly on or when off we would have either the noise or a judder when braking. Then we started having the ABS kicking in which is almost like having a poor, juddering brake and takes longer to stop.
Here's the fun part:
Took it to a Hyundai dealer (Swansea, South Wales, UK) who plugged it to a monitor and said that all four ABS sensors were inactive and the gravity sensor had failed. They wanted to do a further diagnosis at a cost of £100 and estimated that the work would be £1500 but we asked them to hold off as it was a huge amount of money.
I did a quick search and found the forum (thank god), and from that learned about checking a few things first with this problem. Blocked the car up and turned each of the wheels slowly and sure enough on visual inspection the ABS 'tone' rings were split.
Phoned up another Hyundai dealer this time in Cardiff (http://www.evanwilliamshyundai.co.uk), said what I thought was wrong, they agreed and said it would have been the first thing they would have checked for FREE. Booked it in, they were really pleasent, helpful and honest.
Total cost £161 which included an oil change, tone rings are £8.77p each. Problem gone, brakes fabulous.
Moral - don't trust everyone, use the internet, use the forum.

I just bought a used 2001 Santa Fe and I'm generally happy with it - with the exception of the beep it makes when the door is locked and unlocked which I'm finding increasingly annoying. (I KNOW I just unlocked the door. It isn't necessary to notify my neighbors. Sorry, I guess I'm more annoyed than I thought). Is there a way to disable this without disabling the horn altogether and without taking it to a mechanic? I've searched the site and haven't seen this question addressed before. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

We noticed a few days after Leap Year Day that our Hyundai Santa Fe was still in February! When we think about it, we take a photo. This one was taken on April 7, but according to the Santa Fe, it was Feb. 68th.
We're coming up on Feb. 99th within the next week or so. Not sure what will happen then.
Frankly, we have found the calendar feature to be USELESS, but this has made it a bit more fun.

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5 with a service light and a PO183 checked and cleared at auto Zone. Trouble code came back 30 minutes later.
Called my local dealer and he has never heard of a fuel temp sensor on a Santa Fe and thinks that it might be one of the three sensors in the fuel tank.
Any new ideas?
Thank you for your time.

I have a 2004 Santa Fe. I noticed that on my rear passenger door the bottom right corner of the door molding that is on the bottom of the door had come off a bit.
Can someone tell me what holds the molding on the door? I thought it was some type of clip or something like that.
I was going to try and give it a good push to put it back in place but I wasn't sure if that would work.

I'm attempting to replace the alternator on the 2001 Sante Fe and am having trouble removing the Pivot Bolt. I removed the nut from the front of the bolt and attempted to slide the bolt rearward toward the front of the engine. It seems to run into the front of the engine before it's completely free of the alternator housing.
Is there a step that I'm missing in the process to remove the alternator?

Project for the weekend is to replace the rear wheel bearings in a 2003 Santa Fe.
(reading a couple other threads this seems to be an issue with rear wheel bearing failures )
Have done fronts in my 4x4 Ranger with little issue.
Looking for tips and or need for special tools.

Hi all
My car is a 2001 v6 2.7l AWD Santa Fe. Just this week the rear differential had a bearing go out, so the dealer says. Symptoms roaring noise similar to a wheel bearing gone but as I had suspected from my own examination it was not.
How unfortunate! the new differential is 1450 dollars! plus labour a 1800 dollar hole in my pocket!
This seems mad wondering if its a commom problem the car has 114000 miles on it which is not that much! We have owned the car from new and it has not been abused.
I would like to hear your experiences or comments

Hello,
I just acquired a 05 Santa Fe,
the previous owner lost the keyless remote.
Does anyone know the part number?
I go on Ebay and there are so many different remotes with different part numbers.
My local dealer wants $92.00 for the remote and $49.00 to program it.
He doesn't want to give me the part number.
If I had the part number, I can try and match it on Ebay.
Thanks for your help

There is something smelling mildewy and I think it has to do with the cabin air filter. Thw window was left open and it rained hard. The interior was soaked and when dried up...it started to smell like mildew. Where is it in the 02 SF?

I am installing a Whelen Siren into the vehicle.
For the hands free option it requires me to splice the horn wire after the horn relay.
i checked the hmaservice site and apparantly all this is after the engine compatment junction block.
Where is this wire and how can i get to it.
Thanks all.
Also here is the link to the siren manual with a wiring diagram if anyone needs clarification

I got an Error Code of U0D00. Any ideas of what this is or means. The scan tool says to refer to your manual but I don't have one. Any help.
What the vehicle is doing is that it will work fine for a while then when you stop (in park) the engine will rev really high and back down all by it self for example. It will go up to 3.5 and back to 1 rpm repeated. Then when you start moving the car it will continue to idle higher like you are pressing the gas. During all of this the check engine light will appear?

Has anyone wondered why in Santa Fe maintenance manual it indicates us to change the timing belt at 60K but it's only a recommended act for CA? I inquired from Hyundai and talked to a lawyer. It seems for CA, there's a law which states if car company mandates a service request which normally goes beyond some XXX $$ generally, it really has to prove first it's mandatory. Thus, if you notice, the timing belt really gets replaced AFTER 100K, irrespective for CA or non-CA state.
I think, the timing belt replacement at 60K is really not required, but required at about 105 to 120 K. The problem is, dealers seems to demand it or otherwise warranty is kaput. I challenged on this front to dealer and Hyundai, none had any answers. Any comments?

I own a 2005 Santa Fe with the 2.7L V6 in it. It's just front-wheel drive, but it's loaded otherwise. I was wondering if the new 2.2L diesel will fit in the older Santa Fe's. I live in the US, so the diesels aren't available over here. Is it possible to do an engine swap and put either the 2.0L or the 2.2L diesel in my car? I wanted to convert it to 4WD also, if possible. I'm looking for an engine from an otherwise totalled vehicle. I still have to do the cost analysis to see if it would be cheaper to ship the engine over from where ever, swap it out with mine, and make my car 4WD vs. buying a new diesel vehicle (whether a Hyundai or other). Any one have any ideas if this is possbile, or am I just wasting time. I'm wanting to do this because of the better gas milage of the diesel, and I can run bio-diesel in it. Gas is getting to expensive.

Two questions if I may:
1.) Is gasket sealer required when replacing a 2.4 liter cylinder head?
2.) Is Loc-Tite normally used on the cam drive sprockets (where they bolt to the camshafts)?
Thanks in advance...

I've successfully removed the tensioner, idler, water pump pulley, but i'm stuck at the crankshaft pulley.
I don't have an impact wrench, so I'm using a socket set. Of course, when I try to loosen the large nut, the engine turns as well. How do I lock it out? I see there are 2 raised holes on the pulley itself, but they appear to be blind holes and do not go all the way through. See attached photo.
I'm at a stand-still until I get this pulley out.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can throw in a one-liner to help me out.

Hi folks,
I have had my Santa Fe for a month now and am still getting poor gas consumption and I want to get some idea if it is just my car with the problem or is it the model.
I have a 2005 Santa Fe. 2.7l 6 Cyl, Front Wheel Drive.
I have been averaging about 14L/100Km. The best that I have seen (on a trip with 90% highway) is around 12.2 L/100Km. I have driven it around 2200 km so far and I use 87 octane regular unleaded fuel.
I would really like to hear your experiences and see if any of you have some advice. My dealer just said wait until the 2000km is done and it will settle down and " it is just because of the cold weather" ?!?!?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
-Richard-

OK, I recently purchased a gently used 2002 Santa Fe 2.7L AT. It had 56,000 mines and seems to have been well maintained. I have put about 1000 mines on and something has got my attention.
After shifting from Park To Drive or Reverse to drive the car will hesitate as the gas is pushed. This seems to be a momentary hesitation and it feels as though the engine is reving (no drop in RPM) after a sec theres a slight jerk and forward momentum begins. The car runs beautifully after this point. Shifting from 1 - 4 happen as expected. It never has an issue on the road or freeway. This is annoying after coming to a complete stop however.
Tomorrow bright ant early i plan to have the Transmission oil and filter changed to see if there is any improvement. I check the A/T stick and the Transmission oil seems slightly brown with slight black deposits? I'm already fearing the worst but i am hopeful this solves the problem.
So the reason i am posting this is to get other possible explanations? It was my plan to take it to the dealership for the 60k even though it is well out of warranty. I just didn't want to do it this soon. as i said i JUST bought this car and I a still recovering from the expense.
Thanks for any help

Hi all! I have a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 2WD 4 Cylinder vehicle that I had the dealership flush the transmission 7 months ago. It's been hesitating in shifting in the last couple of weeks and when we checked the transmission fluid levels we found it sorely lacking with no evidence of a leak. I went to Pep Boys and AutoZone but they can't figure out exactly which type of fluid my car needs - their books specify the Hyundai version which they do not carry but I find it hard to believe that I can only get this fluid from the dealer...anybody else out there have any idea?

Greetings all,
I have recently aquired a 2005 Santa Fe and am now in the process of trying to fix/complete the vehicle for my wife.
I notice that the car has the triangle sticker on the window stating that it has "Hyundai Security Installed"... but I did not recieve the FOBs with the car when I got it. I know eBay has many auctions offering the replacement FOBs, but I have noticed there seems to be a few different ways each system must be programmed... The furthest I have gone was crawling under the driver side looking for the box with the switch on it... but I was not able to quite get up under the dash well and behind the fuse box. Is there an easy way to identify if the FOB can be owner programmed vs dealer programmed? Does the driver side lower dash need to be removed to gain access? (if so any removal steps would be appreciated)
Thanks!
