I have a 2004 Sonata with a 2.4. When very cold the motor or a component is very noisy and even makes a kind of whistle and it stop as soon as it gets warmer. Anybody had this problem ? They replace the alternator, thinking that was the fault and there is even more noise since then.

Hi everyone, i was in a minor accident in my 97 sonota, both bags deployed, no damage to the car. so i got new bags on ebay, and right now, looking at a place that repairs the airbag computers, does anyone know how to put the bags in or a place online that tells how, its not in the chiltons repair manual. also where is the airbag computer located, cause i might need to send that into the place i'm looking at to be fixed.
Thanks,
Chris

About 2 years ago my 1997 Sonata GLS driver's door locking mechanism failed due to a broken spring! The dealer wanted $ 125.00 for a new locking mechanisim, whereas my local garage replaced the broken spring which cost $1.00!
Now the passenger side door will not open by remote central locking or mechanically with the key. So far even the locksmith has failed to open the door (Suspect the spring has broken on this door too). You cannot get the inside panel off as the securing screws are in the door ends! Has anyone encountered this problem before and may have a solution for me?

I love my Sonata I bought new in 2000 and have had little trouble with it until now. I still have warrenty but just on the power train. Got in her one morning and all she'd do was whirr at me when I hit the starter. Sounded just like the starter had gone out. Bought a new starter and put in on and still get the same sound. Had dealer pick up to fix. I'm scared to death this isn't under warrenty and will cost an arm and a leg to fix. Any suggestions as to what's wrong and what the cost to fix would be?

Any help would be appreciated! Our 1989 Hyundai Sonata will not start, won't even turn over. I'm told that the solenoid likely needs to be tightened. We've had this problem a number of times since acquiring the vehicle in August '04 and have had it checked, but it's always started at the garage and I'm not sure if anything was actually done. I'd like to tighten this thing myself if only I knew where to look--any idea?!

This is my third sonata. I like the model. This last one has a habit that needs explaining. Driving into a corner I suddenly find myself much to far into the corner before the expected movement of the steering wheel takes effect. That is to say the amount of turning is much less than expected. Sonata 2004 model with alloy wheels. There is also very little feedback from the road. Have noted that the servosteering is much lighter than previous models but this does not explain the peculiar steering habit. Anyone out there have any ideas??

Hi
I am new to Hyundai - but I now have a 1998 2litre Sonata.
I also have several Nissans including a 240Z and 300ZX TT.
Now on the Nissans I feel I can do just about anything including checking ECU diagnostics.
Am I right in thinking the ECU error codes and diagnostics are not available without specialised equipment (ie another computer and diagnostic software) not available to the "public"?
It worries me a bit that I cannot do everything I want on my Hyundai, and might be reliant on expensive service/repair dealerships.
What's the story on DIY repairs on Hyundai?
Thanks

Hi
I need a proper workshop manual for the 1998 2 litre Sonata.
Anyone got an old or used one they no longer need?
Even better, if some kind person had one in PDF form (or on CD) they no longer need.
Someone must have one in their cupboard or workshop.
(are the manuals from www.cdmanualwarehouse.com any good?)
Also if anyone knows of a website that has basic Sonata tuning, ECU checks , and brake, steering, and other service details could they let me know?
My car came with nothing in the glovebox - not even the Owner Manual.
Cheers, and thanx guys for reading this message.

I started it 4 other times and then it stopped. there is no spark in the spark plug wires. I also changed the noise (reducer)

This morning i tried to start my car only to find that the key wont turn 1 bit, its stuck on lock. Last night it was running fine, there has been no previous problems indicating that this would happen, it was out of the blue. The key goes in and out fine, just doesnt turn.
Ive tried everything from jerking the steering wheel, tripping the shift lock, checked all the fuses and they all seem to be fine. I thought that something may have broken inside the lock barrel so i called an auto locksmith and he quoted about $160 just to come out and have a look at it
Maybe this has happened to someone else before? Any help would be rgeatly appreciated, dont really wanna spend $160 +
The car is a 96 Sonata.
Thx.

I would like to know why some hyundais with power door locks, even if you use the key or remote button why do all the doors unlock. It is nice to have keyless entry but it is kinda dangerous when all the doors unlock all at once, I noticed that they improved the power door locks in the tuscon and XG350. Do koreans cars use cheap central locking systems

I thought I would ask before I started taking measurements at the panel.. Does anyone know if some of the fuses at the inside fuse panel are constantly hot while others are switched... such as the radio should be switched (on/off with the key) while others should be hot all of the time (interior lights). Would appreciate anyone's inputs.. Thank you

When starting, the engine will keep turning over until foot feed is pushed down. I believe the fuel pump is letting the gas drain back down. Where is the pump located and is it easy to get at?

Hello again.
My question today is what is the best, and easiest, way to convert my lighter plugs/power plug to be a hot 12v all of the time?
I was told I could tap off of the hot line to the radio but it might pull too much current. I only use the plugs for charging the cell or running the ipod. Never for using the lighter.
Also, if I do convert them will it void the warranty? Something to consider.
Thanks!

Hi, I think my 1990 sonata is dead. When I started the engine this morning it went fine. I shifted to reverse (A/T) and after a few feet, the engine died. It will not start again. All I hear is a click click click while I'm trying to start it. We tried a series connection with another battery from another car but it did not work. My lights can still be turned on and my horn still works. What could be the problem?

Is the guy exaggerating isolated cases or is there any truth in this? How common is the timing belt failure on this engine?

I own a 2000 Hyundai Sonata 4 cylinder (2.4 liter I think) it has 69,450 miles on it and I only bought it in January with 63,000 miles on it. About 2 months after I bought it the A/C went on it. Then my transmission, my gas mileage sucks. I thought by fixing the transmission it would fix the gas problem. Big problem too...like 50 miles to every quarter tank of gas. Thats definitley not good. Well, I took it back to the place I got the transmission fixed and they couldn't figure it out. There was only four pounds back pressure which from what my understanding is, is nothing!! They replaced my catallitic converter which didn't do much. This was due to there computer saying my car was mis-firing. The only other thing they thought was the timing belt, I looked into it and thats what it needed especially for me being over 60,000 miles. It was off quite a bit. Well after that was replaced my car started vibrating. The motor mount that they have to remove to get to the timing belt just happened to be falling apart (not caused by them because it was plain and simple ware and tare) They're replacing that. Anywas heres what I'm asking. My car doesn't have much power at red lights it doesn't move. Its like stuck or something. Its hard to explain. I have to get up to at least 5,000 RPM's with my foot stuck to the floor just to get up to the speed limit which is only 45 then it stays there. Its like at least maybe 4 to 6 inches of pressing the gas to the front of the car doesn't even move the car. I don't understand it. As you can tell neither do the mechanics that have worked on my car. Any ideas??? Please get back to me at Shyone62184@aol.com if you have any suggesstions. Nearly everything has been fixed. Please help me figure this out. Sorry this is so long. Thanks
