Hi There.
I am new to this forum and would like to say hello to all. I have a 1999 Sonata with 75K on it and thoroughly enjoy the car, it has run perfectly until recently when it seemed to developed a slight vibration and thunking sound when I was Braking, it has also at the same time it seems to have started running rough like it is only working on perhaps 5 cylnders. Any advice would be quite welcome, thank you for your time.

Noticed a haze, film on my plastic chrome trim on the back bumper of my 02 Sonata. Won't rub off...it will scratch off if you use your fingernail. I really don't know how long it has been on there...seems pretty recent to me or maybe I just don't pay as much attention to things as I should. Any advice on how to get it off? Or what it might actually be? Thanks Much!

A couple weeks ago, all of the sudden, my 2000, 4cyl., Sonata's engine started running rough. It was preceded by an occasional misfire in the engine.
Now, the check light is on, and it runs horribly.
I have had the plus and fuel injectors replaced to the tune of $500. Any suggestion? Mechanic said fuel injector cleaner because maybe something is in my gas.
Help?

The alternator went out on my 2001 Sonata GLS last week. No one had one in stock so I had to wait four days to get one. During that time, I had the battery disconnected. I installed the new alternator tonight. It works fine, but now it kind of hesitates when shifting from 2-3. Does the TCM need to be reset? If so, how do you do that? Will it eventually just learn to shift normally again?
Thanks

Hey all,
It seems that when I brake the car to more than a gradual stop, my CD player in my 02 Sonata skips- this I can deal with, but recently after braking hard, the player froze on one track for around 15 minutes, then reset and began working again, then shortly after that, on another fairly quick brake (I was in traffic) the CD came out, but it left the CD player believing that it was still playing track 13- it has been stuck that way for several days, turning the car on and off doesn't do anything and telling it to eject the CD is not working because... well there's no CD in there to eject- even though it thinks that there is.
This is quite frustrating, I was considering disconnecting the battery to shut the unit down completely, on the hopes that it would flush whatever glitch is afflicting the system. I'd prefer not to have to take it in to a dealer (its rather far) but I will if I have to.
Any thoughts?

Last night my daughter said I left my lights on. I go out and check and the parking lights, dash lights are on. I looked at the switch and it was off. I jumped off the car since they where on for six hours. I turned the headlights off and on, but the parking lights would not turn off. So I disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Same thing.
Has this happened to anyone else?
BTW this is my first post here so be gentle.
I'm thinking a relay is stuck somewhere..
Anyone got a clue?

My 2002 V6 Sonata has about 39,000 miles on it. I wanted to take it in to the dealer for some service, but when I called I got conflicting information regarding what services need to be done.
I asked about replacing the fuel filter, and I was told that it is not servicable because it is in the fuel tank. The service person told me that they only replace it if the fuel pump is having problems. I believe the manual states that it should be replaced at 30,000 miles. Can anyone confirm if they are telling me the truth?
I also wanted to get the transmission fluid flushed and the filter replaced. I was also told that the transmission does not have a filter (only a metal screen) so it does not need to be replaced.
Can anyone confirm this information for me? Thanks!

Greetings:
Just bought a 2004 Sonata and am curious if it is possible to adjust the cluth pedal. I am not worried about the travel of the pedal, just the actual distance from the firewall. To be comfortable, I need to have the seat near the back of the track, but I can barely toe the clutch pedal if I do so. I would like to move the pedal closer to the seat for comfort. Can this be done?
Thanks

Hello everyone,

I need help with the installation of my Motorola Hands Free Kit into my SONATA 2005. One of the wires must be connected to a +12V SWITCHED source but I have no idea were to begin. I do not want to spend $150.00 paying for the installation.
Can anyone help me to find a wire that is +12V SWITCHED Source? I understand this source must maintained HIGH (not switched off) while the vehicle is cranking, but will go low when the ignition is turned off.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

the power door locks in the 2005 sonata are still one stage central locking no matter if you use the key or remote all doors will unlock at one time, i know the the sante fe has a two stage locking system which means when you turn the key it will only open the driver's door lock, when you turn the key twice it will unlock all doors.

Hi everyone...
I've just bought a brand new (although mfr. in 2003) Hyundai Sonata with a 2.0 4-cyl engine, manual shift.
The car, after three months usage (3000km, 1875mi) gives no more than 25 kpg (15.6 mpg) and even less with the AC turned on.
I can't find official data about fuel consuption (even with the authorized dealer) for this specific kind of engine (i live and bought the car in Perú, SouthAmerica)... but i think my car's performance is rather low.
Does anyone reading this lines actually knows the fuel consumption I should expect for my car?
Regards.

Just curious about the capacity of fuel tank in Sonata LX 2005. I thought it was 17 Gal. but when I fill up my tank, when Gas meter on the dash is showing 3/4 mark empty (the needle is at one mark above the empty mark), it only fills up 10 Gal.
Its only a month since I bought this brand new Sonata.

Ok, so the check engine light stays on in my 99 Sonata. So, I brought it back to the dealer where I got it from. He hooked it up and got the error code. It says something about the not being able to test the fuel trim. So, he recommended I get some fuel injector cleaner and try that out. It's been 2 weeks now and the light is still on.
Would anyone have any idea what this could be ?

I just read on another forum that the Honda Accord side markers may fit the 5th gen Sonatas. Has anyone else heard or know about this? If so, what year Accord will fit the new Sonata? I've seen Accord side markers for ~$20. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Also, I wanted to know if there were any other places to order an Ixion Emblem Set IES-02 (the one that fits over the H) besides dream4 and kspec? They both are out of stock. Kudos to dream4 though, they offered me chrome fog light rings and a fs24 emblem for my trouble.

i have a 95 sonata that i love, it has the 2.0 4cyl. when i start the car in the morning it runs great, then when i park somewhere the rpm revs up and down about 500 rpm and the check engine light is on. When i am driving when i give the car gas the check engine light will go back off. I've spent alot of money on this car with motor mounts and cannot afford to have someone diagnos the car.. any suggestions if it is the TPS Sensor?

Gotta question -
I'm getting ready to buy an 2004 Hyundai Sonata next week and was wondering how the warranty will work out? The one that I'm looking at is $14,595 US dollars with 16,330 miles on it. Do I have to pay any extra to have the 100,000 mile warranty on it? And if so does anyone know about how much that runs US Dollars? I'm hoping I will have alot of bargaining room because I'm going to be paying cash in full for the car. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian in St. Louis

Hope to get some pics up soon. got a great deal on it. 2003 GLS with 31,000 miles. got it for $13,300 and that's with adding the extended waranty to 5 years/75,000 miles. I've only averaged 6k a year on my 97 Accord for the last 5 years so i'm sure this warranty will be more than worth it. and for anyone wondering the add on cost me about and extra $1800. But the $13,300 was with that warranty figured in so i think i got a hell of a deal. I'm in the Mid-west (St. Louis, Mo.)
here's a couple pics of it from the dealer website -

really wanted a sunroof, but i just couldn't pass up the deal on this one.
going to bed for now - in the morning plan on placing a couple orders to get my new grill and some other stuff.
FRIDAY the 13th is a GOOD day for me ! ! !

i got my 05 sonata GLS V6 and here in the states i see no reference to EF listed was wondering if that is a package not available here so if anyone could enlighten me it would be appreciated
i looked over at kspec.com and there appears to be a difference , but they only handle the 02-04 models ,they do have a few neat trim goodies i plan on ordering soon
also does anyone know if someone offers a forced induction system for the V6 yet , i dont plan on putting one on yet , only have 1600 miles on it so far but i am thinking about it in the future

just recently purchased a used 2002 sonata 4cyl with 75000 km, when purchased from a hyundai dealer i noticed a mild vibration when idling, the dealer tried to tell me it was just stale gas and after a good burn it should go away, well i recently just came back from a 2200km road trip and the car ran fine but still has that vibration issue, im starting to worry that it is the timing belt, as far as i know the timing belt isnt covered by the warrenty.
should the dealer fix it for free since he sold me the car with the pretence that it was just stale gas.
wish me luck im taking it in today

My 92 sonata timing belt snap that day & all 16 valves damaged.Coz of cost factor it's cheaper to replace a used head from junk shop than replacing the valves. The problem is that the only head available is from 1.8 cc engine but mind is a 2000 cc engine.According to my mechanic it will work,do you think it's advisable, is there going to be any problems

I have a 95 Sonata 4cyl that i just bought. has about 86,000 miles, it had been sitting under a tree for about a year and besides the motor mounts being replaced it seems to be running rough. i tried to unhook the 02 sensor, and that makes no diffrence.. the check engine light comes on and off periodically.. it sounds like a misfire, and tomorrow i am going to replace the wires to see... someone has adjusted the air fuel mixture, and i was wondering if someone knows the setting...

Hello all, I'm glad I found this site. As of today I am the proud owner of a 2004 Sonata V6. I wanted to say hello to everyone and ask a quick question. I wanted to know if adding an aftermarket alarm system will void the warranty on the car (5 year 60K)? I want to install it from my old car, it has an automatic starter and keyless entry. Also, the Sonata keys aren't coded correct? Another quick question, there is a sensor problem when I drive, the door ajar light comes on and off and the dome light comes on too. It thinks a car door is open when none are. Is this something I can take to any Hyundai dealer and they will fix totally free no questions asked? Thanks again, I can't wait to enjoy my car and be a part of these forums!

My first post...
I just bought a 2005 Sonata LX with all of the options (option package 15) or at least I thought I did. While reading the owner's manual I noticed a section on a trip computer. It also says "if installed." You can switch between different modes like time to empty, MPG, etc. You'd think that with the most expensive option package it should have been installed.
Was I supposed to get the trip computer? Is there a trick to get it to work? I’ve tried it about 5 times to no avail and I keep remembering the part in the manual stating “if installed.” My dealer says no it’s only on the XG 350. Then why would they describe it in a Sonata manual?
One more………..does the alarm system chirp when you hit the remote button?

I had a question regarding the Homelink mirrors used on the Sonata's. I have an '02 Sonata LX, fully loaded, but in '02 they did not have an option for the Homelink mirror.
I am in the market of replacing my mirror with the electronics version (for more reasons than just the Homelink). I know the homelink mirror is made for Hyundai by Gentex, if you look at the current models of Homelink mirrors one of them is identical to that of the Hyundai version.
My question is, does the Homelink mirror for the Sonata's have the same type of windshield mount as the stock mirrors? I know the Homelink mirror will have wiring running up into the headliner, so obvously it is different to some extent, but I wanted to know if the mounting is the same?
I looked everywhere for replacement Hyundai mirrors, including Gentex, but even their website says that it cannot replace factory "Hyundai" mirrors.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated (Duke?). Thanks!

the break pedal on my sonata 2.4 ever since I have had the car sink to the floor if you keep you foot on the pedal when the engine is running. First noticed, when the car was 6 months old, while on the ramp of a car ferry when I was asked to wait . Replacement parts were fitted under waranty (took a fortnight) . brakes seized on and after recovery further repairs. It made no difference so I just put uup with it for the past 5 years.
I like the car but not the breaks.

Hey, I'm looking for a tip or two for removing the interior door panel on my driver's side door. I took my car in a while back to the dealer to have them check my crappy power window problems (which I deemed OK for now and not worth fixing for $500). Before I brought the car in, the power to my trunk button and side window adjusters was working, however, after I got the car back, it hasn't. I'm figuring (hoping) the mechanic may have just unplugged it when inspecting my windows and I can hop back in there and plug it back in. Any tips/suggestions/guides would be amazingly helpful. Thanks.

I'm wondering how you like the 5 speed... what is the clutch feel like, ratios etc... is it sporty feeling - like Elantra for example.
I'm thinking about ordering an '05 Kia magentis (canadian Optima) - the first Sonata or Magentis to be sold in canada with a manual since the pre 99 Sonata. none in stock locally so it would have to be sight unseen ordered...
also looking for a Kia dealer that would want my 99 Sonata on trade in southern or central Ontario. anyone know a Kia dealer that might want it? 210KM so local dealer not interested.
it's f/s in the classifieds section too. Thanks

hi guys,
i recently got my self a 2000 sonata with 108,000Km on the clock
today i was sitting inthe maccas drive through and my car began to shutter i noticed the tacho was going eratic, felt like the car was going to stall so i click it into neutral and it was fine. After leaving the drive through it wouldnt go over 2nd gear, it did this for a couple minutes then its shifted roughly through the rest of the gears, to which i had to stop at a red light, the car was idling smoothly and when i took off it didnt faulter, and hasnt done it since,
so my question is: what caused this? and should i be concerned?

Just wondering if anyone else has a 2001 Sonota that has experienced recurring problems with the air conditioning. We bought this car new in April of 2001, in May of 2001 we had to take it back to the dealership because the AC was short cycling, in May of 2002, we had to take it back to the dealership because the AC didn't get cold at all, in May or June of 2003, back to the dealership it went, same problem, and again in 2004, now it is 2005 and I tried to turn on the AC yesterday, and it was short cycling again. We have had numerous problems with this car, recurrent AC, oxygen sensors, broken auto window, would not go back up, Wheel bearings, and now the window that was replaced on the driver's side, sometimes hangs up and doesn't go up smoothly, it gets out of track and you have to pull up on it by hand to get it to go up smoothly.
