Hello,
My 2000 sonata is getting harder and harder to start when cold or after sitting awhile. After it has been running I can turn it off and hit the key and it will start normally. Does this car have a "fuel pressure regulator?" I had a similar problem with a different car and that was what I had to replace.

Hello. My Sonata 2001 2.0 GLS has suddenly started running unevenly, it starts and ticks over fine but struggles under load. I had the same problem last year when I replaced the plugs and both leads which sorted the problem then.I have replaced the plugs and leads again but uneven running remains. Any ideas please ?

Well... im back just as quickly with a new question; How do you get the alternator out of the engine bay. It seems pretty evident where the bolts are, but how do you physically access it to pull it out and replace it ?
Also, how do you relieve the tension on the tensioner pulley?

While changing the spark plugs on our 2002 Sonata 2.7L V6, I discovered a broken wire on one of the fuel injectors. I'm pretty sure I can fix it if I can get the small wiring harness, which powers 3 injectors, off of the car so I can take to my workbench. However, I haven't been able to get the connectors off of the injectors. I don't want to apply too much force and break them.
Does anybody know the trick to unlocking the fuel injector electrical connectors so they can be unplugged? I couldn't find anything in the online service manual for this model.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Well , after getting an estimate from my local heydumgai (hyundai) dealer for $1100 to fix the following, im going to do some of it myself.
Alternator
tension'r pulley
Serpentine Belt
Timing Belt
-----------------------
$1100
That may not be a bad estimate, but I don't have that so I just spent $93 for them to answer a question (worth it in the end).
Anyway, im going to do the alternator, tension pulley and serpentine belt system over the weekend (I'll leave the timing belt to a pro). I can justify $460 for just the alternator alone when i've changed it on my camaro in the past.
Anything I should know in advance going in about either the alt. , belt, or pulley ?
Wish me luck.

Hi everyone,
I have come to you as my last resort. I purchased a 2000 Sonata gls v6 about a month ago. Since the beginning it has had a hard time starting when the engine is cold. Once it starts the car runs good, except for the random stalling. I'll try to explain exactly what happens.
I turn the key, engine turns for about 10-12 times and then the car starts, very rough idling for about 1 minute and then its fine. I arrive at my destination, turn off the car and for testing purpose i start it again and it starts like a champ. If i leave and come back 10 minutes later, same starting problem again.
So far i've changed the fuel filter, apparently the mechanic told me it was very very rusty, did treatment for injectors (cleaner) and changed spark plugs.
I really need to find a solution to this, i have no background in cars, any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Harry

I tried the search button and didn't get any results. Do you guys think that it would be hard to swap in a manual transmission from a Tiburon into my V6 Sonata. The tiptronic is ok, but it is still an automatic and I'd like a bit more control. Thanks guys.

I have a 2000 Sonata GLS V6. My Fan switch needs replacement and the dealer want $185.00 to do it. I was wonder how hard it waould be to acces the switch? It looks as though I only need to remove the center dash paneling (wood grain
plastic) to get to the switch and pull a few connected wires. If anyone can confirm that the paneling is all I need to remove I'd appreciate it. Also I read somwhere in this fourm that the paneling comes off w/ screw driver wedged for leverage to unsnap it from the dash is all that is needed. Is that true? Anyone w/ a shop Manual out there?
Please Advise,
Carl

been having some issues with the car for a while now so is about time to invest a bit of time to fix it. basically when i start the car in gear with the clutch pushed in the car will move forward unless i keep my foot on the brake. it is also very hard to get out of first gear the first time. once i break it free i have no more issues until i shut the car off for a bit. also when driving if i push the clutch in the rpms dont always drop, its like im not even pushing it in. other than the start up thing it hasnt caused any issues but i can see that happening. ive replaced and bleed the line a few times trying to see if that would work but it didnt do anything. i have no leaks of anything. any ideas?

I just purchased a used 2002 Hyundai Sonata with 55,000 miles on it. I didn't notice when I bought it that the AM radio is very staticky. The FM radio is tolerable, but still a little static. The cd player sounds fine through the speakers.
I assume it is an antenna problem. I've never changed one before. I hear it is quite expensive just for the power antenna part. Maybe I can find a used one. If I try to change it myself, is it do-able in a couple of hours? I printed off some instructions from someone else who replaced it themselves.
If I switch to a non-power antenna, is there a specific one I need to buy to get it to fit?

The windshield wiper motor barely works on low, high and hags in the middle of the intermittent mode. I replaced the motor and now it is doing the same thing plus blowing the wiper fuse? I am at a loss right now! Just scratching my head and thinking I will probably have to bring the car to a mechanic?

The car has now been in the shop 3 times for the same "Check Engine" light indication.. The first time was at 20,000 miles.. the dealer I took it to said the code indicated a loose gas cap.. I questioned that, but made an effort to put it on tight.. then at 52,000 miles, it came on again.. I did the 4 key (on/off) sequence and the light would extinguish for about a week then come back on.. then several days later off... then on again and off again...This week at 54,000 miles I took it to the dealer again, and he said it was a faulty gas cap, and replaced it..All should be fine now I was told.. he very next day the light came on again... and is still on.. but I am sure it will reset after several starts.. I guess it is back to the dealer again who is 50 miles away.. any idea what is going on before I make the return trip?

I just picked up my v6 Sonata from a local shop, having had them replace the drive belt, timing belt and tensioner at 60k miles. As soon as I started it I heard a tapping, and thought this was from it sitting a few days, so I let it idle for a moment then took off. It sounded like the tap died off at this point. After getting home, 3 miles away, and stopping I could clearly hear the tapping again. I lifted the hood and it was very clear. I checked for obstructions, did not find any.
Is this normal in any way? The timing tensioner was straight from Hyundai, the belt from autozone but high quality. The only thing I can think of is the shop screwed the timing, or the tensioner has to wear in? What else could this be?

I've been looking around for a 1989 Sonata owner's manual, but can't find one for the life of me. My car didn't come with one, and no stores in my area carry them. If anyone has a link to one over the internet (downloadable would be nice

) or an idea of where I can purchase one, that would be wonderful.
Thanks

After searching Ebay and such, I found an wire harness for the premium sound system to work with the amplified factory unit. If you are installing a new deck for HD radio or an Ipod....the factory harness couldn't be found to work with the amplified system or the H290 radio.
Scosche has one that will work without having to bypass the amplifier system. It is listed for an 2006 Sonata system but has the proper connector and filter to make it work with aftermarket head unit. Part # HY06B
It has been a pain trying to find one to mate with aftermarket head units without having to cut into anything.
Also, if you are looking into a double din install kit they have one too. Part # HY1602B
Hope this helps someone from wasting time surfing....I know I have the past week.

Hey all!
I did a search but didn't find results.
Our '05 Sonata (V6 - ~63k miles) has occassionally made a high pitched whistle after driving. It seems to do it on a drive after a hot day and seems to come from the passenger side in the engine compartment. Due to the location of the sound, I'm wondering if it has something to do with the air conditioning system.
It's difficult to describe. It's fairly loud. It can start doing it after the car has been sitting for some time (cooling down) and will continue to do it whether the car is running/off, AC is running/off. The pitch of the noise can vary and the length of time it does it is several minutes (+15mins). There doesn't appear to be any driveability issues, but it's concerning.
We initially thought it was coming from a refridgerator that is close by in the garage. I thought the 'fridge compressor might be bleeding off or leaking, but I found out it was actually coming from the engine compartment of the car.
Any help you can offer is appreciated. Any questions I can answer to start pin-pointing the issue, I am glad to (try to) answer.
Thanks,
Paul

I want to change the brake pads because no matter how much water I clean the wheels (inside the holes too) the sqeaking is killing me. I've taken the car to numerous places to check the brakes and I always get "they're fine, just dirty," yet no matter what they do (if anything) I'm squeaking within a day.
Would you spend the big bucks and go to a dealership, or just have somewhere like Firestone, Midas, etc take care of it? If I go to somewhere other than a dealership, what kind of pads should I ask for?
Is it kind of weird to anyone that when I take the car somewhere, they don't try to sell me anything (pads or otherwise) and just tell me they're dirty, yet no one can seem to "clean" them off?
Does anyone know if the 2003 Sonata has disc, or drum brakes, or a combo of both?

So im attempting to put in a head unit from my old vehicle in my sontata. i got the correct wiring harness. i even checked it against the wiring diagram from the hmaservice. i know that the wiring matches up but when i turn the new head unit on i have no sound. i know that sound is coming from the head unit cause i plugged a home stereo speaker up to it which worked fine.. im unsure now why i dont have sound. is there a separate amp system for the speakers? im just dumbfounded as to why its not working with this head unit and it works fine with the stock. i might just go to circuit city and make them do it but i'd rather do it myself if anyone can help.

Hello Experts,
I have a 2002 hyundai sonata driven 85K miles. I have never changed transmission fluid on the car. I had gone for oil change and the mechanic showed that the transmission fluid was black and needed to be changed.
I would really appreciate it if experts can let me know what are the parts that need to be replaced as part of transmission fluid change and what is the average cost. Thanks for your help.

Hey! my first post here!
I'm wanting to flush my own trans fluid (03 Sonata 2.7L V6) next weekend. I can get my hands on the spIII fluid, and the filter/gasket, but was wondering if anyone else has flushed their automatic trans. I've done it on my Chrysler Concorde, and it's pretty easy:
Drop the pan,
replace the filter and pan gasket,
refill to spec (about 4 qts),
pull the trans cooler return hose,
point the hose into a bucket,
get about 4 quarts of new fluid open and ready, and a funnel ready in the dipstick,
have someone start the car,
immediately start pouring the trans fluid into into the trans,
after pumping out about 4 quarts into the bucket. or when fluid pumping into
bucket drops pressure, Yell "stop the car!".
refill flud to spec.
do 4 more qts (for a 12 qt system)
That being said...
I haven't been underneath the Sonata yet!. Is the pan removal straghtforward?
which of the two hoses is the trans cooler "return" line (out of the radiator)?
Anyone???

Having a charging issue on a 01 2.4 Sonata, alt. charges then quits, battery light and brake warning dash lights come on, no output, had alt. bench tested, checked out OK, reconnect and it works for a short while, have battery voltage at hot stud, and 3 terminals on the plug, all connections are clean, the diagram shows a generator relay, which I can't find, and a Pre exitation resistor which I also can't find. I replaced link at pos term. to alt. Any insight into this would be appreciated. For some reason I can't download schematics from Hyundai website. Thanks

I'm just getting a 1989 Hyundai Sonata and everything with it is perfect, except a few minor things. The background with it is, my boyfriend is a tow truck driver and hauld away this car for scrap. The previous owner wanted it gone just because the exhaust had a hole in it, which is getting repaired. It runs and is great but I'm having issues with the Driver's side Rear Door. It won't open at all. Both the handles from the inside and out move but the door wont open. I can't get ahold of the previous owner to get any history on it, but I can tell that the door has been like that for several months at least.
If anyone has ever expirenced this before and/or has any ideas at all on how to fix this, I would love to hear your answers!!!
