Just bought a new 2008 Elantra a few weeks ago and I'm a little frustrated with the shift points in the transmission. It really seems like the transition from 1st to 2nd as well as 2nd to 3rd occurs too fast. I'm constantly dropping into the 1,500 rpm range while going up hills (I even think I hear a bit of pinging when running at this low rpm) at a lower speed (25mph limits). Does anyone else have this problem or know if the dealer/shop can adjust the shift points? My new car is a replacement for an '01 Elantra which didn't seem to have this problem and never had pinging noises. Thanks!

I have another question as I'm a pretty new driver and not very knowledgeable about cars.
I come from driving a six- cylinder to my 4 cyl '07 Elantra so maybe what I'm complaining about is normal.
When I approach 60 kph (anywhere from 56k to 63 kph) there is a wierd shuddery, hesitant lurch to the drive. Like the car is unsure or about to stall (if it was standard; but it's automatic) and it annoys me to no end. It's like I have to really put the pedal down when I'm at that speed, to get out of it. There is also an accompanying louder noise to the propulsion at this speed-- which unfortunately for me, is exactly city-driving speed.
Does this make any sense to anybody?
Appreciate any thoughts.
Picky new Elantra owner,
Leslie

Does the gas mileage on a new elantra get better the more you drive it?
The reason I ask is because I have a Elantra about 2 weeks old and I drive the hwy most of the time and my average mileage is 29.2, and I want it to be around 34 or more. I don't read line it, and drive it fairly nice and normal for a person. Am I expecting to much or is this part of the break in part?
Thank you!

Had it 2 days and wondered why everyone was passing me like I'm standing still! Hooked up my GPS and discovered @ 65-mph indicated, I was actually going only 59-mph, and @ 72-mph indicated, I was only going 65-mph. Contacted Dealer Service Dept. and was told, "We'll put you on the list for a new instrument cluster."
THE LIST??? I asked. Yep. I'm not the only one. ALL of the new Elantras are having this problem!!! Not only that, I filled my tank today, reset the trip meter, and then drove 6.5-mi home. The trip meter indicated 18.5-mi!!! <- UPDATE: This statement is incorrect (FALSE!). I did actually rack up 18.5-mi. I forgot I didn't go straight home from the gas station.
Other than the inconvenience of the speedometer, I'm generally satisfied with the '07 Elantra.

I was just wondering if anyone had seen a Cold air intake for the 2007+ elantra? Or if anyone has mickey moused one out of a cone filter, some ducting and clamps. I know K&N has a filter for the stock air box. But, i was hoping to get some chrome ducting under the hood.
Someone on Ebay has one listed
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-2005-2...1QQcmdZViewItemIt says it is for an "04, 05, 06, 07. I highly doubt it will work on an 07 as I think the airbox area was redesigned (i may be wrong and i'm sure someone will correct me if i am).
Any input would be appreciated.

Hi all,
I'm having trouble finding seat covers for my '07 Elantra GLS.
I ordered some from Wet Okole but they wouldn't mount. They are a two piece design and there is a plastic panel on the stock seat that prevents the two pieces from hooking to each other as they need to.
Wet Okole's solution was to bend this panel on the seat upwards. That was unacceptable, so I sent them back. They also didn't fit all that snugly.
Has anyone installed seat covers in their car and if so, where did you get them?
TIA,
Eric

Hi allstar

,
"cheap and nice" is usually a bit of an oxymoron.
You don't say what you currently have so I'll assume that you have the standard system with approximately 50watts max per channel.
A good upgrade is to find a specialist electronics store that carry a range of good replacement speakers in a similar power range. This will improve sound quality out of sight. (I run the 5" and 6*9's myself. Very happy

)
An example of what I'm talking about is on this link. Browse Category "Speakers and Audio" & Sub Category "Car Speakers"
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productResults.asp?FORM=CATIf you are going to amp the front speakers and run a sub, using the rear speakers for fill running directly off the head unit, then of course, buy speakers that match or better the amp output.
If you just want to run an amp and sub, I would suggest upgrading your existing speakers first and adjusting your staging(On my Pioneer head unit this is called FIE or Front Image Enhancement) so that you can hear if any low frequency deficiency may be improved by fitting a sub. You may find that better quality 6 * 9's negate the need for a sub.
Obviously, in the end, you get what you pay for. One or two 10" subs or one 12" should be more than adequate for your vehicle. Quality construction and competent fitment should be priorities.
Hoping this has been useful.
Cheers,
Andrew

Ummm....don't know how I came to be posting under your name or where your post went..... Hopefully you'll still read this.

Quick question...
I just got my Elantra in Aug and I've already hit 3000 miles ( I commute). I saw on the news awhile ago that most cars can actually get their oil changed every 5000 or 6000 miles. Is this true? Will I do any damage to my new engine if I let it go to 3500 or 4000 before my oil change( schedule for Oct 6).
Also I'm looking at the preferred maintenance guide that came with my car and it has the first oil change listed for 5000 miles. Do i wait?

Whats going on HF? My name's Cliff, yesterday I became a proud new owner of an 07 Elantra GLS. (cool!) Black w/ tan interior, its a simple car- truely a functional daily driver. I'm really looking to integrate some deutsche to my GLS, if you catch my drift?
First Question - Fog Lamps: This may sound dumb.. Can you override the switch/ Slap the Emergency brake on, so the fog lamps turn on with just the
Parking Lights?
Thanks guys! More to Come soon

I think the Hyundai Elantra should have the have the 2.7 liter has option the base engine has 138 which is 47 hp increase over the base engine i think it would make great marketing stand point for compact cars it would be the first car in class with msrp of under $20,000 to offer a V6, throw in stability control it would be a great contender in my opinion.
What are your opinions ?
Thank you

Hello,
Watch the Elantra frontal, side and rollover crash test.
See it here:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/NCAP/Cars/4230.htmlNow, pay attention to [Frontal crash Fermur Load and Head Injury] and [Side crash Head Injury (rear).] Those numbers are a bit higher than the most common on cars of the same class.
Use this link:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/testing/ncap/ to compare with other cars (OPTION 2).
Should we worry about??
Thanks,
Bumbba from Brazil.

The Elantra user manual says to inflate the tires to 32 psi I have noticed some of you are inflating to 35 psi. Are Kumo tires standard of SE Elantra models?
Does Kuhmo recomend 35 psi?

hey guys....
do you know any place in SoCal where you can install some woofers? also...any suggestions? i have the GLS model with the tweeters and speakers in-doors and i was thinkin of addin 1-2 woofers in the trunk. How big should they be and how much would it cost me ? (including the amp). Also, i wanna hook it up with the stock system and keep all the speakers working: tweeters, front and rear speakers.
Also, I have to mention that I don't want the woofers for cruising at 20MPH in town so i can show off my beats...lol...in an elantra i doubt anyone would; so dont give me like....15 inch speaker suggestions cuz i dun wanna blow off my trunk door.
I want clarity and i want to hear the bass when its there....the elantra stock speakers dont really do a great job at that.
With that said...hope to hear from you guys soon
Thanks
Alex

I just purchased a 2007 Elantra GLS. IS there anyway to add daytime running lights to the vehicle? I figure there must be some way since all vehicles sold in Canada need to have daytime running lights.
Currently all you can do is leave the lights on. The fog lights would probably do the job, but they only come on when the headlights are on. And when the headlights are on the taillights are also.
I would prefer only to have the headlights or even just the fog lights on during the day.

So far I am loving my new (5 day old) '07 Elantra, having traded in my '03 Silverado (Gas Hog). MY only real complaint is the speed sensitive volume on the stereo. If I want my music quiet, I want it quiet all the time, not roaring to life as I increase up to the blazing speed of 35mph!
Is there any way to disable this "feature"??

I'd like to use this thread to post any '07+ Elantra performance links ya'll might come across. If we get enough links to make the thread usefull, then the moderator/admin can sticky the thread and give us a nice little archive to turn to for performance goodies.
BTW, is the 2.0L engine shared with any other Hyundais? I thought I saw something that the Tiburon 2.0L is the same.
Edit I'm adding this
link to the Hyundai Performance Forums. I imagine there are quite a few good resources there, but I will continue to look elsewhere, as well, for Elantra-specific parts.

I usually hang out in the Santa Fe area, but I just read in The Globe and Mail that Hyundai will add a five-door wagon to the Elantra lineup early next year to compete with the Matrix, Caliber, and Mazda 3. It's going to be based on the i30 from the Geneva Auto Show in March. It will be taller than the sedan and the suspension will be tuned for sportier handling according to Wayne Killen, director of product planning at Hyundai Motor America. "We want people who are looking for something sporty, but don't want a small SUV. They still want the car look".
It will be powered by the same 138-hp 2.0 litre inline four engine in the sedan. 5-speed manual is standard, 4-speed auto will be optional.

Since the oil filter is located above a plastic piece which shrouds it from the bottom, simply removing the filter drops a lot of oil onto this plastic shroud which makes a mess as the oil runs off the shroud.
I was wondering how many owners remove the shroud before removing the filter vs. how many just leave the shroud on and deal with cleaning up the mess.

Just tested the 2007 Elantra, my report is as follows, keen engine smooth suspension if not a little soft on uneven road, the electric steering is floaty but tolerable.
The interior is outstanding a true class leader with userfriendly climate control, soft blue ambient lighting, storage aplenty, and soft touch interior trim, leather on the Elite S is excellent.
The only true criticism is the steering, and the input jack for an external audio device should have been a usb port instead that way all systems can plug into it.
I've heard the HD elantra due in November will have auto headlighting and other sweetners.
Another point the car only looks good in black/silver/red/grey. Horrible in beige downgrades the style.
All that hyundai have to do to this car is move the side indicators to the mirrors and ditch the rear keylock on the boot ( which should save some money) and they truly have a european contender.
My score out of 100 is 88/100
Lost points on the steering and the rear indicators being amber instead of clear.
Otherwise a fine effort. Even looks better than a Mazda 3.

I bought a Elantra 2007 SE edition with the sun and sound package. I am very happy with the car, except the speakers bass sucks.
I am interested in adding a sub woofer. Has any one else added one and where is the best place to put it. I am not looking for a bumping sub, just want good sound.
Is it best to:
Put in box in the trunk? Can you hear it well?
Cut a hole in the back dash behind the rear seats and have a speaker there?(not alot of room though!) I did find a 6" by JL audio that might be able to work.
Any other suggenstions?
Thanks!

I'm looking into buying a new Elantra in the near future, but I can't find any information on an auto-dimming rear view mirror. Does the Elantra not have this option? If not, are they after-market available? I really don't want to *not* have one lol. Thanks!

1 Drive by wire. What happens if Electric is off at steering wheel?
2 Does the engine still have a timing belt rather than a chain?
3 Where is the hatch back elantra
4 The price seems to be only a few hundred less than a Sonata and the MPG is not that much higher. If it still has a timing belt the price of that would more than off set the MPG differance.
5How does it handle? I know the I4 Sonata is a little wanting for suspension .

Has anyone plugged their iPod into the Aux in the 07 elantra yet? I did but I can't skip tracks through the steering wheel controls like I thought I was supposed to. I can adjust volume. And when I'm not using the Aux the buttons scan radio stations. Anyone else have this problem, if so can it be fixed?

2 weeks ago got Elantra GLS 2007, auto, preferred package.
In 2 instances already both me and my wife noticed the car drives like there is no suspension at all. The car shakes and rattles quite unpleasantly.
Does not come from the engine, but the suspension.
If there were any hydraulics involved I would guess it's from the cold. But to my knowledge there aren't any. Plus I have another Elantra (2000 wagon), which has no problems.
On the top of it, that car handles very poorly on snow/ice!
If anyone has a clue, please write back at
etkolev@prodigy.net
Thanks,
Evgeny

Few days ago I purchased new Elantra 2007 in Ontario, Canada. I have GL Sport but unfortunately according to my dealer no AUX input is available on any trim level which for me these days is big letdown. So my question is if there is some kind of “quick” fix for it. Maybe cable directly connected to the back of the radio and stereo jack on other end sticking out somewhere under the dash? Does some maybe have back pin out configurations for the radios in 2007 Elantra?
I was looking through US based dealer and I see that AUX input is offered on some of the trim levels. Maybe some could find out for me the part number for Hyundai radio with AUX input and I could just mail order it. I assume that it would not be any issues fitting it to my Elantra.

Hi all,
I'm considering buying a '07 Elantra and the local dealer is pushing hard to get the deal done today since the $1k rebate ends today. He's offering me another $400 if I get it today, so my question is, should I wait for the next Hyundai incentive (could be a risk)? What was the incentive last year for new '06 Elantras?
Maybe the dealer knows the next incentive may be better than the $1K so he's pushing hard today. Then, again, maybe not. What would you do?
He quoted me a SE with AT and Premium Package (sunroof, heated seats) for $16,350 +TTL. That's including all the rebates. Is that good? I'm here in Minnesota.
Thanks!
