Finally got my car back after having the motor replaced -- there is a bolt missing from the timing belt cover. The dealer states not all bolt are used on all cars. Can someone look at theirs and tell me. The bolt position I am concerned about is the second bolt hole down on the left side of the timing cover.
Also, is the oil pan attached with a gasket or glue?
See pics.

Instead of just a CD player, CDP0005 gives you DVD, VCD, MP3 and AM/FM radio. You can play discs, use an SD card or other media player via the mini USB port. The 4 channel MOSFET amplifier stage is rated for 45W RMS per channel. It also has a sub-woofer output, composite video and line level audio outputs. Fits a standard DIN opening, mounting hardware included. The
CDP0005 also has a built-in bluetooth function, which allows you to talk handsfree on your cell phone when driving. For security and theft prevention, it has a detachable front panel. And with it's unique 4.3" rear-view video display, you able to maneuver easily on its touch screen menu. For easy control of this car DVD player by passengers, a remote control is included.

(Moved from another thread per suggestion) I have had 6 Hyundai as rentals as I travel allot with my job and all of them, just like most Asian cars has a "sewing machine" tick. On the older cars this was normal b/c they had mechanical valve lash, however, the newer DOHC engines use hydrolic lifters with an adjusting shim on top of the valve spring. These also make a little noise, mainly when cold. However, with my 2008 Elantra, that has been a different story. In the first 800 miles, the check engine light came on twice and once the car would not start while hot, but the problems went away before I could get it to the dealership. About 800 miles valve train noise started to change and get louder -- I dismissed it as everything settling down and wearing in. By 1000 miles the noise was loud enough to hear inside the car with the windows up, radio on cruising on the highway. You should only really hear this noise at idle. I notified the dealer (Serra -- Birmingham Alabama) and they did not have a loaner car and asked for me to wait on bringing the car in. After a week of calling them, I took the car in, let them listen to it and I was told to limit my driving on it and call back in a few days for a loaner. Needless to say, considering they lost the car I ordered and had to wait nearly four months to get this one, I told them it was going in the shop now and after tracking down the General Manger and he heard it, he nearly had a come apart and found me a loaner right then. After two weeks, they call me and inform me that they had pulled the oil pan and found nothing but found a broken lifter. After repairing it, from what they would tell me the engine dropped a valve and blew a piston. Now I am waiting again and already had round with the dealership b/c they want to rebuild the motor on a car I waited nearly 4 months to get and has less than 2000 miles on it. The car doesn't even have a tag on it yet!!!!!!!! I think they should replace the car -- what advise is out there?
FROM marrug: Well emgal, thats a nightmare of a story...and it deserves a thread all its own....your choices are simple, but theyre all PITA.....first, let em "rebuild" your motor...that sounds strange, considering the amount of internal damage done...you could insist they put a new motor in it, which would probably satisfy me, but what about you?? OR, unfortunately, start checking your states lemon laws, and THAT, more than likely, is going to require you to get a lawyer, at least to write them a nasty letter telling them exactly what it is going to take to satisfy you...as far as them "taking the car back", what??? out of the goodness of their hearts?? sorry, i dont think so...not without some serious activity on your part..good grief!!!!...good luck...
BTW, have you tried calling HYUNDAI direct and "going on record" with your feelings re this???

I have a 2008 Elantra GLS with 6,500 miles. Recently, I noticed that when the car sits for 3-4 hours and I go to start it, I hear what sounds like a chattering/ticking noise from the engine. It lasts about 10 seconds and then goes away as the car warms up. I started noticing the noise as the weather got cooler out. I did hear it this morning after sitting overnight in the garage but it was quite cool this morning. Other than that, the car runs fine. Is this normal? I brought it to the dealer and they checked it out and they couldn't find anything other than the TSB for the loose speedometer cable (fell out of clip). Thanks.

I just ordered one of these, $30 delivered.
Unlike most of them I've seen which just press in.
This one (U8650-01000) looks like a socket for a spark plug
and one end is threaded and apparently just screws into the block.
BUT WHERE? Hope I can get to it without jacking the engine up.
Does anyone know firsthand where this goes or has a schematic to show where.
THANKS

Well I put my oil pan heat pad on today.
Jazz Pro Auto Parts.
I did not peel the paper off and use the self adhesive glue.
I just used 3 (3X.25X.50) special (Neodymium) magnets to hold it on.
That baby ain't going no where.
K&J Magnetics.
Not all magnets are the same. Some lose their magnetism when exposed
to heat, these do not (I use smaller ones on my oil filter and tranny pan too).
That way I can easily remove it when the weather gets warm again.
The cord length was just perfect. I ran it throught the lower grill and
it tucks invisibly behind my license tag when not in use.
I tested this pad a week ago with a pot of water. Within 15 mins. the cold water
( 3 in. deep ) was 140F. . . . So that's 40F to 140F in 15 minutes. WOW. . .
I then let it run for a full hour because I was afraid it might be too powerful and
boil or scortch my oil.
After one full hour The water was steaming hot but did not boil. . . PERFECT.
I'm sure the whole engine will be warmed up by using this for 30 mins. or so.

Greetings,
Just noticed on my new Elantra GLS that the rear door on the driver side is not lined up properly. I've looked things over pretty carefully, and it looks to me like the panel itself may have been contoured wrong. The passenger side is fine.
The door fits/aligns perfectly until about 90% up the rear quarter, and then it bows out at the top, just below the glass. Both of the lines are broken (the black trim, and the body contour), and it's pretty obvious that it's not aligned properly.
Anyone else have this issue? I'm just wondering if it's a problem with the panel itself, as I see no way to adjust it without taking the rest of the panel out of alignment.

Recently purchased an 08 Elanta, and since I added XM radio, I'm CONSTANTLY changing stations. Honestly, its beginning to hurt my arm a little. My car isn't equipped with with the steering wheel audio controls, but I was wondering how much (or where, or even if) that can be reasonably installed. I looked online fpr kits but didn't see anything. About how much would that be with parts/installation?

would you expect your[b
] DVD player [/b]to do more than just play DVDs, particularly if it's an in-dash model and your only option for audio entertainment. Some models such as
CDP0012CDP0012 can play a wide range of formats, including DVD, VCD, SVCD, CD-R/RW, WMA and MP3.Many models come with a tuner built in, so you can watch conventional analogue broadcast radio and TV, satellite TV and Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), where available. You can find these CDP item which support kinds of format in some electronic site.

So yesterday when I was at work I was talking to a co-worker and I was looking around and I had to do a double take, a silver Elantra Wagon! I said to my co-worker that's a new Elantra Wagon! I rushed over to it and it had Jersey Manufacturer plates which means it belongs to a rep.
It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, nevertheless it's very sport looking! It had a completely different interior than the sedan. I got a quick look and it had automatic headlights, a hyundai navigation system (i doubt we will see that), and some cool gauges. It had a black interior as well. There was no badging on the car other than the Hyundai symbol. I took a picture with my camera phone and when I walked away the Hyundai rep. came out and was giving me a dirty look.

This has happened to me twice now and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced it or knows anything about it. It seems weird that I could be the only one, so I imagine someone knows something!
Sometimes when listening to a CD, it plays normally, moving from one track to the next normally, but if I decide to skip a track, it won't skip. Then I realize that the track display has not actually changed for quite a few songs, and it is still displaying the track number / name from a few songs ago. CD will also not eject during this time. I tried turning off the power to the audio and then back on, and no good - still frozen. A few minutes later I tried again and was able to skip the track and eject and everything just like normal, and upon successfully skipping the track, the track display corrected itself. Very very weird. This happened once with a commercial CD and once with a burned mp3 CD. I had my car in the dealership service shop today for the recall and they couldn't reproduce the problem (no surprised there, since I listen to my CD player every time I drive and this has only happened twice), nor could they provide me with any information at all. They said they also didn't get any information from the scans / diagnostics tools, but I am not sure exactly what they use for testing.
Has anyone experienced this or heard anything like it?

Driving by my local dealer last week and I see a sign on a new Elantra that states "38 MPG" in big letters. I emailed the dealer and they said it's the "national average," and that most drivers can expect to get 27 city/39 highway MPG. I'm not sure where this data comes from.
I'd say it would be hard to achieve 12% over the EPA 34 highway MPG for any extended period of time.
So, in the interest of science (and possibly false advertising), is anyone seeing 38 MPG on a regular basis? How about 27 city?
If this is indeed true I may consider trading in my 06 Sonata...
Thanks,
Scott

Just give the trim level, options and actual price. Don't include trade-in as thats a seperate deal.

OK I'm somewhat confused on Oil with the Hyundai Elantra. I have the 2008 Elantra, and am currently a little over 700 miles. In my last car, which was a Ford, I pretty much always had my oil changed at every 3,000 miles, and it was regular oil. With this new car, and the warranty, I want to make sure I do things correctly with oil changes. According to the manual, and the service log that came with the car, it says to change the oil and filter every 7,500 miles. I called the dealership to see if it came with synthetic oil or something, but they stated the cars come with regular oil. My question on that is, doesn't that seem like an awefully long time for regular oil and filter?
Along with that, when I do get my oil changed....prolly still at around 3,000 miles, I'm thinking of switching to synthetic, which I've never used before. A friend of mine uses synthetic, and says he still changes his oil and filter at about every 3,500 miles. I thought you could go longer with synthetic between changes? Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated!
I did try searching for other similar topics like this but couldn't find any, so I hope I've posed in the correct area. Still getting used to the forums here.

Long story short (info in another thread), my Elantra SE w/ auto, heated seats, and sunroof blew an engine 2.5 weeks after I got it. So for the last 5 weeks I have had a loaner from the dealership, a 09 Sonata GLS with the four cylinder and auto with 7500 miles on it. I have an opportunity to swap cars without having to pay out anymore. Here is my dilemma, positive and negative aspects:

I will be loosing my favorite features, the sunroof and heated seats

The Sonata has no dings, but has a few scratches inside and out

The insurance on the Sonata is higher

The sound system in the Elantra is better

The Sonata seems to have more road and engine noise while going down the road.

The Sonata seats and driving position is better than the Elantra b/c of the larger size.

The Sonata has allot further fuel range and only a 2 mpg drop, great 5speed auto, and more pep

The Sonata, while the suspension is soft, is very well planted

The Sonata is manufactured an hour from where I live for whatever that is worth.
So now I am in the bind that both models appeal to me for different reasons, so do I accept their offer to take the loaner car as a replacement or hold out and swap for another Elantra just like my "blown" one?

Anyone know where these can be found ( I saw some at SPX Performance who sells Folia Tec Brand but they charge $19 for them and then $16 for S&H ). And lots of luck trying to guess if they will fit, they are all 2.0+ inches long.
Our's are 15/16" Long x 1/2"" Wide and 7/16" tall.
Trying to find any kind of a part for a 07/08 U.S. Elantra is turning into a nightmare.

Hi everybody,
I was hoping someone may have insight on a problem I just encountered with my 2008 Elantra GLS. I bought it almost 4 weeks ago with 4700 miles - it was being used as a loaner so I got a discount on it. It had a minor scratch and dent on it that the dealership agreed to pay for so I brought it in last Thursday to get that work done. I got my car back yesterday afternoon and now there is a squealing/whistling sort of noise happening when the car is at an idle in all gears. The noise can get to be quite whiny and annoying waiting at a long light. This was not happening before I brought it in for the scratch/dent - it had been wonderfully quiet. I really don't want to bring the car back to the dealership because I was bummed being without it this past weekend and don't want to lose it again. I hope it's one of those easy to fix issues. All the work done on it was bodywork so there was no reason for anyone to be under the hood, making this new noise even more puzzling. I perused the forum and didn't see anything that quite matched this issue, plus my Mac isn't cooperating with the hmaservice site. Any information would be very appreciated!

I have a 2007 Elantra GLS. I know this will sound like a super basic question, but where is the block heater if I even have one? I saw no mention of it in the owner's manual, and have had difficulty finding info online.
If I don't have one, how difficult is it to install one? Any ideas how much it would cost for a shop to install one?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

Hello I'm new to the community here and also new to the Hyundai company. Two weeks ago I bought my first Hyundai and I really enjoy it. I'm looking into debadging the Hyundai letters and the Elantra letters and also taking off both Hyundai emblems and replacing them with the new Avante emblems they have out now. My question is though how are the original emblems stuck on the car? I know the letters I just need to heat up and slowly fish line them off but I'm not sure how the original Hyundai emblems are on this car does anyone know? Are they bolted on or actually snapped on or are they also just adhesive?

My 2008 Elantra GLS, like my 2000 Elantra GLS has a horn that sounds like a dying cow. I changed out the horn on my 2000 model with few problems. How do I access the horn (in front of the radiator) to change it out? Also, are there any particular problems with wiring in a new, generic dual tone horn?

Hello,
I just purchased a 2008 Elantra SE and have a question about the Hyundai anti-theft system. Is this just an alarm that goes off when the doors/trunk/hood are opened after the car is locked with the remote? Does the car have an immobilizer system? I can't find details about the alarm or anti-theft system anywhere, so I am hoping someone here can help me.
Thanks

I noticed pinging upon load/acceleration from my 2007 Elantra at approx. 3000 miles. As per the owner's manual, I use 87 octane regular unleaded fuel. I took to the dealer and they could not replicate the problem. Dealer still performed tests and everything appeared ok. There is a comment on the work order that a trace ping is normal. Quite honestly, I’ve never heard of a trace ping. I now have 4300 miles and it seems the pinging has become more persistent. This is the first Hyundai I have owned. Is pinging a common trait of Hyundai vehicles? Thank you in advance for all feedback / suggestions?

Interior / Present - The dome and map lights in my 08 GLS are too dull to do the night delivery work that I do. I need to read inside my car at night.
Solution - I have six (6) 12 LED Panels ($10 each) on the way from www.iJDMTOY.com. Four (4) for the Dome and one (1) each for the maps.
Interior / Future - Everyone likes the blue interior lighting. That includes me. I would like to add a little more by tracing the built in dual cupholders in the center console with an illuminated blue ring. Not one that shows the LED points but illuminates evenly. Is there anything out there yet ???
Exterior / Present - The oem T15 5W Tungsten backup/reverse lights are terrible.
I replaced mine with T15 9 LED replacements - STILL TERRIBLE and DANGEROUS.
I have more powerful T15 1W ($9 each) on the way from iJDMTOY. These are the most powerful available at this time and should be slightly better than my oem's.
What is needed ( but not yet created ) is a T15 5W input /15 W output or some other type of more powerful LED bulb that can be adapted over to the T15 socket.
Exterior / Present - Rear tag lights extremely dull.
Solution - I have two (2) 36mm white LED Festoon replacement bulbs coming from iJDMTOY and I am sure this will provide the amount of light needed.
I have found iJDMTOY to be the people to deal with as far as price, quality and service. There are others vendors. . .if you like dealing with nasty people that charge too much for inferior goods. I am in no way associated with these people.
I just thought I could save everyone a little money and a lot of trouble.

Quick question... I have been driving VW's for years and the engines were always very quiet. This is my first Hyundai (just purchased it last week) and I noticed the engine ticks (I wouldn't go so far as to call it a knock) when I am parked or sitting still. It is a pretty low sound and it does not knock when I am driving it (totally different sound than the "engine knock" you get when you put cheap gas in it or the engine is under a heavy load). Is this normal? I don't want to take it in to the dealer if it is, but if no one else hears this ticking sound I will have to see what they say. The car has about 600 miles on it. Thanks!

Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at
TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.
Thanks to the help of this forum and its members, for which I am very grateful, the Sonata and Santa Fe have been among the best represented models. Hopefully we can do the same with the Elantra.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.
For the details, and to sign up to help out:
