Can anyone explain what i need to do?

I'm pretty sure i got bad spark plugs and now im getting terrible gas mileage, lost a little bit of power, and im not paying my mechanic $350 again for a second tuneup.

Car has 70k miles on it. I tuned it up at 57k using OEM plugs and wires (maybe that was my problem)......

apaprently my mechanic told me its a **** of a job to do, but I need some real advice. I'm not the greatest with cars but if i research enough i think i can figure out what I need to do.

I am having trouble finding the guide on how to replace the spark plugs on the 03 tib v6 on the hma service website. Does anyone know specifically how to find these instructions? I need assistance with removing the intake manifold.

It takes as long as 30 minutes for my cars outside temperature read-out to match the external temperature. It adjusts very slowly. I cannot get an explanation. I read, in a few forums, that it is designed this way, as to not read the engine compartment temperature, and others say it must be defective. Please respond to this message, if you have any knowledge of the outside temperature sensor on a Hyundai. Thanks.

i'm polishing the valve covers and i read on another site that when i'm done with the buffing is should use a clear coat to keep moisture out. is there a special type of clear coat that will resist the heat of the engine, or are they all the same? thanks!

I have the 03 tiburon gt, with the infiniti sound system..i know it has a stock amp and sub, but i was wondering if i would have to do anything special to hook up an aftermarket radio and subwoofer? i don't care to lose my stock sub sound..it doesn't do much anyway...i was just trying to see if the stock amp would be any trouble?

Hello, I am new to this so I hope I am doing this alright.

The battery on my Fob keyless remote died last night. I replaced the battery and the remote works like it is suppose to ( unlocks the car} However, when I try to start the car it just turns over. It is like the alarm system has imobilized the car. I tried disconnecting the car battery in hopes of resetting everything but no luck. dealership is closed for the weekend.

Any suggestions/advice would be welcome.

There must be some sort of reset switch???

Hi, and sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum to post 'problems' about Tiburons, please move the thread if so. Well to get down to it, I ended up losing my Tiburons' real key that the car was purchased with, and stuck a never used imitation key in my ignition, but was still made from the Hyundai local dealer. It felt very like it had a lot of 'smooth' resistance when I stuck it and and turned it all the way to start the car. After many attemps of trying to get it out, I believe the cars' ECU recognized that it felt someone was trying to theive the car, so it has locked itself down, and not letting me charge the battery at all, ruling out being able to enter the key code that I could have tried to enter if the cars' battery was fine to let the ignition release the key, but no power, so nothing able to dial in. I have tried wiggling and reading everything I could on it, about turning the wheels and trying to wiggle the key out, shifting gears while, and letting the car roll in either direction then trying. It just seems to be a stubborn key that has not been worked and hung up because of its 1st time use, also some WD-40. This has now been going on for 4 days and holds me back from being able to take the Tibby anywhere, so help or words of any type will be much help, if I can be clearer let me know. Thank you

As you can tell, Im new, and I dont even drive a tiburon..lol.My girlfriend does however.She has a 06 base model 2.0 liter.Its just about to hit 60k and I am planning on changing her timing belt.Any car I have owned/built, I always do waterpump, idler/tensioning pulleys and any other relative compnents. My question is, what else do you guys change when you do yours?

I have a 2003 Tiburon GT with 5 speed. Recently I installed an AEM cold air intake and Borla exhaust. Since then I have been noticing that when I accelerate in third gear the car hesitates and loses power between 2000-3000 rpm, after 3000 rpm it will accelerate again. It is only in 3rd gear. I just had the transmission rebuilt because my synchro was bad and the hesitation is still occurring.

I picked up a 2003 Tiburon for my daughter and drove it home to SD from Sacramento last week. Only 32,000 miles and in very nice shape.

Problem: When I encountered patches of ice, especially on a bridge, the slightest raise in the ice under one wheel would send the car very noticeably sideways. I've experienced the usual slippage on ice before but never this sudden sidways skip or throw. I assumed it was the tires... but now I'm wondering if the Mussa front strut bar is a better explanation. That is, due to the front strut bar, the force exerted by the ice bump under the left wheel doesn't raise the wheel but instead is being passed on to the front of the car as a whole and there is a sudden shift to the right. Very frightening, especially when the ice continues for several feet and the car is thrown back and forth. Of course the interstate had been closed overnight and there were thousands of semis on the highway too, with one always immediately to the right when this happened.

Am I wrong in thinking the front strut bar may be the problem? Should they be taken off in winter when encountering snow and ice? Thanks for any suggestions here.

I just changed the fluid in my newly purchased used 2005 Tiburon 2.7 automatic with 50,000 miles. I don't think the previous owner did the 30,000 mile change. The fluid was discolored but passed the smell test so it wasn't burned. This ATF change was actually easier than the other vehicles I've changed the ATF in: a Ford Explorer, Ford Mustang and a Toyota Sequoia.

The first thing to do is to purchase 11 quarts of Hyundai SPIII at your dealer. I got mine for $6.47 per quart with a 10% discount because I purchased a bunch of other stuff, cabin air filter, oil filter and touch-up paint. There is alot of discussion on this site about which fluid to use. I like Mobile 1 synthetic and there is no problem using it in place of the MERCON III and MERCON V used in my Fords. In my wifes Sequoia Toyota recommends Toyota Type 4 non-synthetic only. I e-mailed Mobile One to see if they had a synthetic substitute for it. After 3 weeks they replied that they had just introduced a synthetic to replace Type 4. Instead of using a new product, I just used Type 4. I e-mailed Mobile One 2 weeks ago about an SPIII synthetic substitute. No reply yet. There are various reasons to sell a proprietary fluid, but when the warranty on the tranny can be voided by using a different fluid, I decided to used the SPIII.

You will also need 4 feet of 3/8" transmission hose and 1 hose clamp. Autozone sells the hose for about $1.20 a foot. Also needed is a semi-transluscent bucket that will slide under the jacked up car. I use a Home Depot 5 gallon "Homer" bucket cut in half so it holds 2.5 gallons. Also, get a second bucket to dump the fluid into from the first bucket.

Once you have the parts you can get started. The whole point of this procedure is to replace the entire charge of tranny fluid and to accomplish that by keeping enough fluid in the tranny to keep it safe.

Take your smaller bucket, pour (2) quarts of water in it and with a magic marker mark the water line on the outside of the bucket. Pour in (2) more quarts of water and mark that water line. Pour in (2) more quarts of water and mark the waterline. When you're done you will have a bucket with (3) marks on it in 2 quart increments. Dump out the water.

Jack up the front of the car on both the passenger and drivers side so you have lots of room. Make sure you place the drivers side jack stand so that the marked bucket can be placed under the tranny fluid drain plug.

Hyundai makes this project easier because they have a tranny drain plug. The drain plug on the Tiburon is the big nut located in the center of the transmission housing. Someone on this forum said that it takes a 24mm socket to get it off. I didn't have one that big so I used a 15/16" inpact socket which fit perfectly. Unscrew the drain plug and let the fluid drain into the marked bucket. (4) quarts drained out of mine; right up to the second water mark on the pan. I can see the (2) quarts marks that are marked on the outside of the bucket from the inside of the bucket because it is semi-transluscent. You can probably also mark the inside of the bucket after you dump the water out, but I can see the outside marks just fine.

My drain plug is magnetic so it had some black metal dust debris on it. Nothing big so the tranny must be in decent shape. Wipe it off and also wipe the drain plug washer. I asked the Hyundai dealer parts guy if there was a transmission drain plug washer when I bought the fluid and he said no. But I had one. It is not a crush washer like my Sequoia tranny drain plug had and it looked in pristine shape, no gouges or anything so I cleaned it up and reused it.

Once the drain plug and washer are re-installed get a funnel and put it in the transmission dipstick tube after you take the red dipstick out. Since you just drained (4) quarts out you are going to put (4) new quarts of SPIII in. Pour each quart slowly since the air in the sump is being replaced by the fluid. If you pour too quickly the escaping air will bubble up through the fluid causing a splashy "burp" out the top of the funnel. Once done, now it is time to get the balance of the 8.2 quarts of dirty fluid out.

Crawl under the radiator and see if you can identify the two transmission lines that connect to the back side at the bottom of the radiator. One line is on the drivers side of the radiator and the other line is on the passenger side of the radiator. The flow of fluid comes into the transmission cooler through the drivers side line, travels through the cooler and exits out the passenger side line back to the transmission. If you follow both lines up about 10 inches or so you will see that they both join up into a harness as they travel together back to connect to the transmission. The passenger side line comes out of the radiator with a metal tube that connects to a rubber transmission line. Ideally, we should use that one to drain the fluid since we could flush the transmission cooler. But the metal line connects to the rubber transmission hose too high up to comfortably disconnect the rubber transmission line from the metal line so I used the drivers side line.

The drivers side line is just above the red "phillps head" plastic radiator drain plug on mine. It is a rubber transmission hose connected directly to the radiator fitting. Since the drivers side line is easier to work with we are going to disconnect it.

Take a pliers and remove the clamp and pull the hose off the fitting. A few drops of dirty tranny fluid will leak out to confirm that you have the right line. The flow of dirty tranny fluid is going to come out through this disconnected hose.

Take the 3/8" hose you purchased and connect it to the fitting that you just took the transmission hose off of. Use your screwed hose clamp to secure it.

Dump the (4) quarts of dirty fluid you drained into a different bucket so you can use your marked bucket. Put the hose you just secured into the marked bucket. Some residual fluid will backflow out this hose so we connected the line so you won't have a mess to clean up.

The drivers side hose you disconnected is not very long. You actually have to hold it at the end and point it down into the marked bucket. If you want, you could buy a larger transmission hose to connect over this 3/8" hose to extend it, but I just pointed mine down into the bucket.

Have a partner start your car. Remember, the car is on jack stands. Make sure your jack stands are good quality. If they aren't, take the time to lower the car. Once the car is started the flow will start out the disconnected drivers side line. Once the fluid fills the bucket up to the (2) quart line turn the car off. The fluid will stop flowing immediately. Put the funnel in the dipstick tube and pour (2) quarts of new SPIII in.

Now repeat the procedure: point the hose into the bucket, start the car and once it fills to the second (2) quart line stop the car. Fill (2) more new quarts into the dipstick tube.

Repeat the procedure one more time and take out two more quarts. The last of this purge of fluid should be clear, new fluid. Stop the car. You have drained (4) quarts of fluid from the drain plug plus 6 quarts from the drivers side hose for a total of 10 quarts. You have also installed 10 quarts of new fluid for a total replacement of the 8.2 quart capacity in the tranny.

Disconnect the hose from the drivers side fitting, reconnect the transmission hose back onto the fitting and put the new screwed hose clamp on to secure it. Lower the car and you're done.

Turn the car on and go through the gears for 10 seconds each and put in park and check the transmission fluid level. Top off the fluid level as needed with the 11th quart of new fluid.

Discard the old fluid at you local reclaimer.

Check the fluid after driving about 15-20 miles to get the fluid hot and top off as needed.

Some of you may note that the 11th quart of fluid need not be purchased if on the last 2 quart drain, you only take 1.5 quarts out. Then you have .5 quart to top off the fluid level.

My names Jeremie. First time poster on your forum.

I don't actually own a tiburon, but I'm here on account of a friend who loves hers.

She owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon, unfortunetly with only four cylinders. I own a subaru liberty b4 currently.

Anyway, her problem initially was that her right indicator light wouldn't turn off. Thinking this would be a quick fix, she pulled into a mechanic near her work after being abused the whole way down the highway.

When she returned from work to pick up the car. The mechanics had failed to do anything about it, and had managed to stop the car from working. The mechanics said that they tried to pull error codes off the ecu and it was unreadable, and are saying that it might require a new computer at the price of $2000. So from broken indicator to new ecu, well done boys.

That said the mechs were a bit sheepish about the whole thing and are allowing her to leave the car in the workshop for free...

So my questions are:

What could have caused the indicator to do this?
What did the mechanics do? An ecu failing on a 2003 car?

I have a 2003 Tiburon Gt that I just bought and I need to replace the clutch. Does anybody have any suggestions on what brand? I am putting a 13lb flywheel and want to go with a close to stock clutch but I am going to add about 50 HP after I am done and a stage one shoud work. I looked at F1 racing that is who I am buying the flywheel from.

Trying to install a system in my 06 tiburon, i have everything in but the head unit. I wired the wiring harness and when i went to go plug everything in i was left with one small connector that goes to nothing at all. I turned the key to see if the radio would turn on... nothing, so i plugged the stock radio back in to see if it would work... NOTHING only thing that is working is the back lighting when the lights are on. There is no spot at all for this 3 prong connector

hyundai dealership told me that fuel filter is a non-serviceable item, meaning i should not touch it unless it malfunctions. the owner's manual suggests changing every 40,000 miles. car has 106,000. change it?

comin' into work today [about 8 miles] i noticed a very strong smell of gasoline. when i made it into work the smell was still really strong and with the vehicle - obviously not good. with the car parked and engine off i sniffed around the tail pipes and it was perfectly clean. i went around the front and popped my hood and got hit in the face with the smell of gasoline like a dump truck.

bought it new and the car is rollin' on 85k. hasn't given me any major problems up to this point. bone stock. have kept up on all services and oil changes. if i was to take a stab at it i'm suspecting a busted fuel line or crack in the fuel rail but honestly i haven't a clue. i've never done so much as removed the plastic engine covers to take a peak. gonna take it to a local hyundai dealer in the morning, i guess.

has anyone ever heard of this happening, if so what was the diagnosis?

howdy by the way - first post on the forums but i've trolled here and there. hated the tib when i first bought it [was driving a 600hp dodge stealth rt twin turbo but it just got waaaay to expensive] but the car really grew on me. the genesis coupe is a sexy beast and will likely be my next ride in the next few years if i can hack it.

2004, 2.7L, 5 speed manual

I've got a very noticeable vibration (~ 40hz) whenever I accelerate from 55-65mph. No vibration during deceleration. Tires were the first thought but I just replaced them, no change. Also replaced the front shocks/struts. mileage is 190k so I'm thinking it's a drive train member but two mechanics (one independent and the other a Hyundai dealer) can't find anything wrong. The rotors are flat and the alignment is fine.

I've read the other postings and can only find vibration references to worn wheel bearings. This doesn't sound like the whine of a worn bearing. It really feels like an out of balance wheel resonating at 60mph. I'd swear that's what it is if I didn't have new tires on it.

The fact that there is no vibration when decelerating would imply to me that it has something to do with power transfer components.

Please excuse me if I've missed a relevant post. I'd appreciate the link. Otherwise, anyone have any ideas?

I have a 04 Tiburon GT. The lights on the AC buttons flash when the AC is on. Occasionally the air will turn warm for a second, but usually stays cool because the light onLY flickers off and on. Anyone have any ideas or recommendations on where to start first? Thanks!!

I've had my car for a while now it's a 06 Tiburon GT 2.7 and have had no problems so far and love the car. However around last week I started my car in the morning heading to work and the a/c was blasting from the day before so i turned it off normally and it was fine. Then later in the day I turned it back on using the auto button on the climate control settings set to 72 degrees. When it hit that temp. i pressed the off button which turns the climate control off, stop fans, turns the display off ect... but this time it didn't turn off normally instead the fans went on full blast. Now i can not get them to turn off them seem to be going up and down slightly while i drive but never off. I have tried many times to turn the climate control off and on again but i can only control the temperature and make the fans go faster. I've tried turning the car off and on again but every time it just starts up full blast. A/C works fine and heat works fine i just can't get the fans to stop blowing. It is starting to get really annoying hearing the fans roaring all the time. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong??

ok I've had my tibby for about 3 years. i got a run of the mill cold air intake off ebay for it. hooked it up my MAF sensor is a little lower than used to be. ever since that day my car idles low and when i go slow or coast or come to a stop it attempts to stall or sometimes does stall. any help would be appreciated. My brother says its a fuel pressure problem. I think its something serious. Please help me. here's pictures of the intake. also used to get check engine lights for MAF sensor but not in a long time.

Can any one help me out here! I have a 2004 V6 2.7 Tiburon Tuscani and I am considering if I should go with an SRI or a CAI system. Also at the same time what brand would be the best to purchase?

i got the main bolt off, and i put the steering wheel puller on, and i used the old bolt loosely threaded in the hole for leverage, and when i tightened down it looked like something with a gear was slowly making it's way through the seal. this can't be right. can somebody help me?? thanks.

I want to install a Cold Air Intake but i dont want to pay $200 for it. what are some cheaper Cold Air Intakes. What about the stock Cold Air Intake already installed is it worth keeping or to get an aftermarket one.

I bought this Tibby for my 16 yr old daughter 2 months ago. The sound system is great whne the weather is dry but is almost non-existant when its raining. I had an Infiniti Q45 back in 1992 that had a similiar problem with a Bose system and never understood the problem. Anyone have any ideas/solutions.

will a v6 from a 2006 tib go into his 08 relativley easy? does he need a 2006 ECU?

I found an authentic seller for Tuscani badges on eBay, but he said they only fit models 03-06. I have a 2008 model Tiburon. Why would there be a restriction, it's three mm double sided tape, how could it be such a difference? Does it not just stick on there anyway? Can I still buy them?

How would I be able to install Neon or Led Lights without plugging them into the cigarette lighter. What would be the best way to install them if i don't need to use the cigarette lighter.

2 questions: does anyone the spanner wrench size for removing the stock 2.7 liter crankshaft pulley? and second, the new pulley is much smaller, what effect will this have on my power steering a/c and alternator?
