Many people do not realise that Hyundai U.S.A. have provided a free online Workshop Manual for all the Hyundai models that are sold in America.
To use this click :-
http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/default.aspEnter your car`s details & click the `Shop` tab.
It might be an idea to bookmark this to your favourites........& remember you can print off sections (or the whole manual!) as required.
Cheers,
Nick.

O.K. Guys!......over the months to come there will be lots of info. posted on here about basic tuning; which really boils down to engine breathing improvements : often referred to as I.H.E. (intake, headers & exhaust).
Whilst these performance enhancements are easily (but not always inexpensively!) obtained, it is worth rememberlng that, at the same time, THE UPGRADING OF BRAKES & SUSPENSION IS VITALLY IMPORTANT!......I`m sure these necessary improvments will also be covered at length!.
Anyway; once you have fitted your CAI (cold air induction kit), installed that`killer`cat-back stainless steel straight-through exhaust & bolted-on your new headers, most of you will want MORE.....but probably won`t have the means, or knowledge, to go down the Forced Induction path, (meaning turbocharging or supercharging).
If that is the case & you are staying `normally-aspirated`, then this excellent site will fill you in on some of the Stage 2 upgrades possible on the Tiburon`s/Coupe`s.
I.E.
Underdrive Pulleys
Upgraded Clutches
Aluminium Flywheels.... (yes that`s how it should be spelled Yanks!).
Here`s the link :-
My WebpageCheers for now,
Nick.

On my son's 2000 Tiburon, the driver side rear caliper parking brake lever is "frozen"
Hitting repeatedlywith a good size hammer did not free up the mechanism.
Passenger side works fine but driver side is frozen solid.
Any suggestions on how to free this up other than replacing the entire caliper?
Would heat help or will it damage internals
As a result, parking brake does not hold car and he failed his State Safety inspection.
I replaced the brake pads as they were worn and hoped it might help but no luck.
Cables work fine and parking brake handle has been adjusted.
Any suggestions????
Thank you in advance,
Kurt

I have a 2000 Tiburon and it was stuck in park. I tested the solenoid and it works, and there is always on power to one side of the solenoid but no ground. I am assuming that the other wire is supposed to supply a ground when the key is on and the brake is pressed but it does not. also my brake lights do work, so does that mean that the brake switch is good?. I do not know where to start to fix this problem any help would be appreciated.

Was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why the headlights no longer work. They were working a couple of weeks ago but now nothing. I can get one to work if I remove the other bulb, the second I install that second bulb the lights dim almost to the point of not being lit. Also if I have the one bulb working and turn on the turn signal the headlight flashes with the turn signal. Any ideas?????
Thanks

Ok, Heres my problem and I really hope some of you can help. I have been searching the forums for the last 6 hours with nothing really helping the problems that I have. First off I purchased a 1997 Tiburon with a blown motor and a new crate engine for 500 bucks. Body and interior in excellent shape. I finally got the motor installed this evening with very little difficulties was actually very surprised at the comparassion of the old 4g63 engines out of the eclipses and talons. Most wiring and everything is exactly the same.
First issue. On the wiring harness on the right side of the block there is a set of three wires. one that goes to the throttle positioning sensor and one that goes to the cam positioning sensor I think, There is one other wire there that is just a single wire with a rubber boot that I can not find where it goes. is this something that would have been just for the 2.0 engine?
Second issue is the fuel pump, The car had been sitting for over 2 years so I figured possibly it was frozen up and would need to be replaced. Took it out hooked it to a battery and it started humming away. I replaced the fuel pump relay still no power is going to the connector. I am getting power on the center top connector but only about 6 volts so I am betting that is to the fuel gauge. If anyone knows anything else to try to do for this i would greatly appreciate any input.

Yesterday, out of no where, my Tib just started giving me problems starting. It just cranks but won't start. Give it an hour or so, and it just fires right up. So where do i start? an interesting note, however, is that my dash-clock, dome-lights, and sun-roof all are out. could this be related? i have not checked into the fuses yet but i did check the master power (yellow) fuse and it was still down. So here are my thoughts:
1. Fuel pump/ fuel pump fuse
2. Fuel Filter (could explain the occasional behavior)
the fuses is where i am gonna start. Can someone give me some advice? if no ideas, can someone at least tell me if there is a fuel pump fuse and what its number is?
thank you!!!

I've got a 5 speed 2001 Tiburon coupe that has basically lost the will to move. The engine sounds like it's over-revving when I drive it, but it won't top 20 miles per hour. At first I thought it might be either the mass airflow sensor, or even the ECU. However, I'm no grease monkey. If anyone can help me out it'd be greatly appreciated. I've tried going to the dealer to run a diag but they gave me some bs about my o2 sensor causing a funky reading. They wanted $200 to change the o2 sensor I'd already replaced that week for all of $70. So I opted out of that one. Any ideas?

After replacing 1 spark plug wire with an old set. The second one cracked. I went to 3 autoparts stores to buy a new set and it seems that there about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to short. The car is a 4 cyclinder and it seems that it share the same engine with other models. The difference that my friend said is that on this car the bracket that holds the coil pack is bigger thus the 3/4 inch diferences. Any one have the same problem and what should I be buying. Don't want to go to the dealer.

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, i'm brand new to this forum.

I was wondering if anyone had a right fender for a 01 Tiburon, preferably the dark blue color (don't have color code). Doesn't really matter tho. Could anyone help out here or would there be a better place for me to look?

Hey everyone, im new to this site and it seems like you guys have a pretty good group here. I drive a 98 z28. Anyways i just signed up because im looking at picking up a 98 tiburon for my girlfriend, she really likes them. It has about 120k on it but its really cheap. I was just wondering if there are any major maintenance issues with these cars and if they generally last much longer than 120k. I don't really know anything about these so any info you guys can provide me i will really appreciate. Thanks

when getting the trouble codes, the machine picked up 7 codes.
i received these codes.
po443 - evaporative emission control system - incorrect purge flow
po743 - torque converter clutch circuit electrical
po745 - pressure control solenoid malfunction
po750 - shift solenoid a malfunction
po755 - shift solenoid b malfunction
po760 - shift solenoid c malfunction
po765 - shift solenoid d malfunction
seems to me we clearly have an issue inside the transmission, could it possibly be my transmission is shot ?
or could it just be i have a loose ground wire from the battery ?
im no expert when it comes to this particular vehicle, but im almost sure its a tranny problem.
if not what else could it possibly be.
i await & appreciate any & all responses & i need my car fully functional asap.
thanks in advance guys.

Hi, my names dan nice to meet you guys. I own a 90 Firebird but my cousin owns the 01 tib and hes mechanically retarded so i just thought id try and fix his car problems for him. His steering wheel cover seems like its about to fall off its very lose and when he turns the wheel if falls out of place. Im a little concerned that if this cover part comes off it might eject the airbag but i dont know tibs very well. His steering wheel/column also shakes and vibrates very loudly sometimes not really sure whats going on with that either maybe thats the reason why whatever nuts or bolts where holding the steering wheel cover are loose. His mom takes it to the shop once in a while for other repairs and they fix the steering wheel cause the cars under warranty and a few weeks later he says is starts shaking again. Im not even sure if steering wheel cover is the right word for the part im trying to describe its the part in the middle of the steering wheel. My cousin has just been wedging it in a unaligned position so it stays for now but im not sure how much time he has left till the thing falls off. Any help and information would be greatly appreciated so i could fix this for him as soon as possible.

ok i have a 1997 tib with a 1.8 and auto now i bought it for $450 with a burned up trans so this may be why it went out in the first place?now my friend sonny ownes a trans shop so he rebuilt my trans and got me a dayco reman converter for $600.00 and i know hes good for he has rebuilt many domestic transmissions for me before although is dosnt know much about foreign cars so he rebuilt this trans as a favor for me this being his first foreign trans rebuild.
now that said the trans is installed, now its stuck in 3rd gear saftey mode me and my friend sonny know that much.
So we started looking around at connections etc to see if it could be a simple connection issue and i found nothing wrong.
the only electrical parts my friend sonny replaced was a shift solenoid because when he tested the solenoids one of them was bad so that being said we dont know where to go from here?
if i scan it do you think that may narrow it down for you guys because i did notice when i first test drove the car the check engine light came on after about 3 miles but when i checked the connections over we took out the battery and the light hasn't came on again because i haven't driven it any further than my driveway so i don't do any more further damage to the trans.
any help is much appreciated, thanks

My 1999 Tiburon had an unfortunate run-in with some roadside structures. The bad news is it will cost more to fix it than it is worth; the good news is that most parts got spared except for the hood, left fender, left headlight, front bumper, left door and radiators. The engine and transmission have 104,000 miles and run great. I have stripped the car completely, so almost every part not listed above is available.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon 4 cyl
Tonight I drove my standard car about a mile, it hiccuped in the movement ?gas? drove normal for about an eighth of a mile then as I was slowing down, it died. It would not restart. We pushed the car to a close by area, and went back to it over an hour later. It started right away but the engine light remains on. I did put $10 gas in the engine and drove it home.
Background:
The car had previously been sitting for a 2 week period with very little gas, put in $5 and then sat a couple of days before driving it tonight.
Any ideas? I think it may be a dirty fuel filter caused by the settled muck in the gas working its way thru.

I own a 1999 Hyundai Coupe SX and have seen other cars of very similar models or almost exactly the same but the difference is the others are always an SE or FX. I have never even seen another SX on the road so my question is, what is the difference between an SX and and SE and the others? And why are there so few of them around?
My other question while I'm here is I'm planning to trade it in or sell it for a newer car, maybe one of those new Hyundai Tiburon which look absolutely great. I have had the car since 2004, has done 138,000 km and is in perfect condition as I keep it well maintained and checked regularly, no major problems, even the mechanics have said it's in top shape for a car this old. Has CD/mp3 player with ipod jack which I had installed a few years back, alloy wheels which I also had put in last year and all the other stuff like spoiler etc. Just wondering, ballpark figure, what should I get for it? I'm hoping for at least $5000-$6000 (Australian dollars by the way) considering the condition of the car and the reasonable mileage.

My 01 Tibby had a little hesitation this morning (after driving 50 miles to work this morning), the car felt a little sluggish after the got to work. The check engine light has come on. I figured it was the plugs, given the way the car was reacting to the acceleration. I've changed the plugs from NGK (old 1 1/2 year old) to Denso U-Groove. The problem was solved, however, the check engine light is still on. Can anyone assist me as to where the check engine light switch is located, or, how would I go about resetting the check engine light.

What do you call a device that just above the surge canister? It appears to be a motor since it has electric connector going to it. It has a 1/2 inch small hose to connect to surge tank and also connects to the air intake system.
It seems that everytime that I "smack" it the throttle/idle changes. I hear some hissing sound from it.
I have been trying to trace an apparent vaccum problem which causes the car to stalh.
thanks

bought car with 127K miles, had rough engine problem. replaced Intake Man + cat convert; new plugs, wires, MAF. Cleaned throttle plate. Had tranny checked. shifts ok. BUT.... It stalls when stopped otherwise idles ok. Good power but at times jerks like it looses gas or vaccum.
went to autozone to check engine codes: P0102, p0748, p1128, and p1613
each is decribed as: Mass airflow circuit low input; liners solenoid electric (tranny?); long term fuel trim - low fuel pressure filter plugged or fuel pump; finally MIL request signal circuit - open or short circuit condition.
Based on the fact that I changed the MAF; plugs, wires and intake man in addition to cleaning the throttle I am inclines to see if the Gas Pump or filter (which are located in the gas tank-?) could be the next logical place to go.
Any ideas? Does this seem reasonable.
P.S. I also have an exhaust pipe leak for which I failed inspection. While I am not sure if this would contribute to a vaccum leak/preassure problem I am looking for confirmation from some of you experts to see if this should also be considered.
I am hoping that the solenoid (p0748 code) does not point to that problem since the tranny guy told me that this will cost me @1,000.00 to fix
any help
Running out of cash

hello all,
newbie here have had my tiburon for about 8 months and three days ago the rear defrogger stopped working. i checked the fuse and replaced it just to be sure, its fine. Still not working and im not sure where to go from here. Also the same day it stopped working the brake light and the battery light came on. Not sure if they are related or just a coinciedince. Car starts and runs fine even here in buffalo ny where its been 20 degrees for the last week, so i dont think i have a battery issue but not sure... brakes seem fine, just had the front caliper replaced about six weeks ago at a garage, fluid fine not low. Not sure where to go from here any help would be apprciated. thanks...

So I know this girl that drives a Hyundai Tiburon 2001 coupe. I don't know if they make the same model in the states but it probably wouldn't matter. Last night she calls me upset and says she broke her car. Apparently she hit a speed bump going about 80 kph (50 mph). She said the car pulled sharply to the left as she continued to drive so she pulled over and looked at the front tires. The left front wheel was turned all the way out while the other one was straight. She said she gave it a push with her foot and it moved very easily back into a straight position. When I got a look at the car a little while later it seemed perfectly fine, the wheels responded to the steering wheel no problem. I drove it around and I couldn't feel any problem with the alignment. Now when I pushed on the front tire with my foot I could move it (along with the other tire and steering wheel etc.) but not very easily. She told me that it had been very easy for her to push it back into place with her foot. Easier than it was to turn the tires with our feet at that moment... right. Does this make sense to anyone who understands the front end/steering box of a Hyundai Tiburon??? I don't know anything about Hyundais but it makes no sense to me. Please speculation welcome.

So I am about to buy a 1997 Tiburon but it has a known problem. The seller told me that the car bogs down going from a stop but drives fine once the car gets up to speed. Also he told me if the car sits for a few days then is started up, for about 30 seconds white smoke comes out and smells like gas. He says it has a brand new tranny and just got a new fuel pump. Any help please?
