I have a 2001 Tiburon with 147,000 miles on it. How long before I need to worry about having the money to replace the shocks and clutch? Do I need to worry about CV joints?
Thanks!

bought a 1998 tibby for my son about a month ago 2.0 5 speed manual tranny. the problem i am having now is it won't start. I was driving it after boosting the dead battery. while i was driving i heard a pop like a cap gun and shortly after smoke came out of the cassette door. i notice the radio had gone mute before it happened but it didn't loose power. I kept driving and noticed the head lights would go out and come back on seemingly at high rpm's. after i got it back home and turned it off i couldn't get it started again. The alarm light on top of the steering column was out and it's usually on all the time. I just parked it. now i am thinking I have a dead battery, but i don't know what happened to get smoke out of the radio and if the alarm is somehow connected to the radio. i know i am generalizing a lot in this post but i am looking for somewhere to start and i know nothing about a tiburon. btw i checked all the fuses. there is a lot more to ask about but right now i just want to get it running again. even if i have to bypass the alarm if could tell me how to do that i'd appreciate that as well.
thanks

I'm looking at some rims for my 2000 Tiburon. I'm not sure what bolt pattern and all of that means and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with all this stuff. I'm looking for a 5 spoke black rim to go on my cardinal red car (I think it would look pretty sweet) but don't know how to go about measuring. Any help would be great, as well as any places that have been helpful to you guies in the past if you've invested in rims. Thanks

Hey all. I'm new to the forum, so if you could please bear with me. I recently purchased a 1999 Tib FX 2.0L and upon cleaning up the interior I noticed that there are several problems and I was wondering if anyone could offer their input.
The overhead lamps inside the cabin seemed to be wired wrong- so I think. Whenever I open the door from the drivers side, they do not light up. They work and they are toggled to turn on when a door is opened. However, when I enter from the passengers side, the lights turn on. It is the same thing with the courtesy light on the doors (red lights). When I enter from the drivers side, it does not light up, but when entering from the passenger door, that door lights up. If the drivers door in open when the passengers door is open, both lights come on. I would just suspect it's an electrical mishap or for my lack of information this could be normal.
Also, it seems that the rear left seatbelt fastener is the wrong buckle. I would assume it is supposed to fully fold down into the seat in order to make a flat surface when folding the seat down. However, it goes the wrong way- it folds towards the rear of the car and does not go underneath the cushion. This is a silly thing, but how do you gain access to remove it if I choose to replace it?
Again, I would assume most of these are considered problems, but if these are normal if they have been answered elsewhere, please forgive me. Thank you.

OK folks, here's the story.
I bought my 1998 Tiburon with drivers side damage. As a rookie in body work, I replaced the door with a new-used one. There was a blue wire and a red wire that I cut off at the hige because the replacement door didn't have them. They are still hanging from under the dash. I suspect that the wires have something to do with the locks, but that's a guess. If I hold down the #1 button, the panic alarm works. If I hit it once, the park lites blink once. Two times and they blink twice. But the alarm isn't armed. Anyone have any ideas? This is a factory alarm.
Thanks,
Ken In STL
We'll miss you Josh Hancock!

Hi all.
My sidelights are not working. The bulbs are new and I have checked the fuses. Headlights work and full beam is fine.
There is no current reaching the sidelights.
Could this be a relay issue?
I would have thought that the headlights and sidelights share relays/fuses.
If it is a relay issue, which relay is it?
Many thanks.

hi, i am new to the forum and to hyundai's in general. i just picked up my new/used tiburon yesterda and noticed this morning as i was filling the washer fluid resivoir that the engine oil dipstick has a yellow handle and the transmission fluid dip stick has a red handle. is this normal? all of the other cars i have owned have had a uniform colour for both.
also, does anybody have any idea where i can find the paint code for this car? i want to do some minor touch up to some stone chips and dings but i need to find the colour match first.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

So over the winter I bought a used 2000 Hyundai Tiburon with 65000 miles on it. I checked out the breaks and the front ones are fine, but I wanted to replace the back ones. Plus, maybe paint the calipers. Everything was going fine, just time consuming, up to the point where I needed to put the piston back so the new break pads would fit in.
Every time I pushed the piston back in, or rather rotated it back in, it would come right back out in maybe a 45-60 second span. I finally beat that clock and got the break pad in and on the rotor before it all came back out again. I thought I had finally done everything that was supposed to be done and all looked good.
A few weeks later I got some new tires (Christmas Present) and when the guy was putting then on, he commented that I needed new rear breaks soon. Of course I was really mad that I had wasted so much time putting them on in the first place then and that I had wasted 40$.
Anyway, my question is why the piston keeps coming out so quickly and tearing down the break pads in such a short amount of time. I pumped the breaks before installing them but don't want to have to change my break pads every three weeks or so, lol. Any suggestions would be very helpful, thanks.

Hey all:
I was hoping someone might bring a bit of light to my problem. I did buy the car used but it only had 81000k on it. Drove like a dream and power oh I love that power this little car has. But of late after a few nasty snow storms, me getting stuck trying to get up the hill by my apartment. The transmission has started to slip. Well once warmed up all is fine, I have had the fluid and filter changed once after I just bought it. But I am thinking of doing that again, does anyone think that might help this problem? Sometimes the car does not want to back up, then when when driving it, as it moves from 3 into 4, it will sometimes go back to 3 and then finely moves up into 4th. Do you think I need a new transmission or maybe get this one rebuild? Could this be caused by a vacuum leak, something like a switch or what"
Please someone give me some in put here. I am really worried. I don't want to loose this car, I love it to much!
Thanks now: oppedal50

Hello, I have a 2000 Tiburon with automatic user-selectable overdrive tranny.
Sometimes it will not shift into the overdrive when it gets up to 55-60MPH, and I
definitely have it selected in the overdrive-enabled switch position. When this
happens, if I pull the car off the road, and turn it off for a couple of minutes,
then start it back up, the problem goes away (for a while at least). It has been
doing this on and off for about 6 months now, but seems to be getting a little
worse. I had the tranny flushed & serviced when I bought the car, about
8 months ago. Any ideas?

I have already done I-H-E. Will i need to do anything in the way of electrics like engine management? And what kind of power can i expect from this? Whats the pros and cons?
Thanx for the help

Hi
I live in the UK and drive a 1997 tibby 2.0 litre. Over the last couple of weeks my car has started on occasion to lose power and then all of the sudden pick up again after a few seconds or so. It only does with when the engine is warming up.
I've changed the throttle position sensor, leads, plugs, fuel filter, air filter and even cleaned the injectors. This hasn't made any difference!! I'm now thinking of buying a scanner to detect any fault codes rather than take it to the garage for a high-pass scan which will cost me a fortune. I have a feeling the problem could be one or both of the oxygen sensors but I need to be sure before paying out more money.
My question is, are our RD tibs OBD2 compatible and will an OBD 2 scanner be able to read any fault codes? Have any folk on here ever used one with any success?
Thanks for any info/help!

Ok, this one makes me scratch my head real good. I'm in the small engine trade, so I know how an engine works. But this... this is beyond me... and appearnetly beond the dealership. Maybe someone here can help me, or atleast tell me how to manually activate the trouble codes.
So, the car worked fine for the first 4 months I had it. No problems at all (bought back in september). Then come january, I went to start it one night and it didn't start. It turned over fine and everything, it just wouldn't fire. So I wanted a minute and tried again and it went no problem like it usually did. The next day it did it again, except it took 5 min for it to correct itself this time. I didn't know what was going on that would make it not start, and then work. It did this and got progessively worse untill it wouldn't start for about a day.
After that I put some gas and gas line anti freze in it and the problem went away. I thought maybe I had bad gas or somthing (I use shell gas). anywho, it worked fine for a week and then it woudln't start again. I waited 10 min and then it starts. Now it starts fine for about a week, and then once a week it will not work. But you wait 10 min and it works. It has lots of compression, and when it runs it runs normally. However, when it has this problem, you can try to start it 5 or 6 tims and then the check engine light will come on, and go away after you shut the engine off and start about 3 times. So is there a way I can manually activate the codes to flash on the dash?
anywho, thats the basics of whats going on... and I don't know what to do. The dealership couldn't find anything wrong (the codes cleared by the time I got there).

Hey all,
Well i was driving along today and to my surprise, my CEL came on. I got home and plugged in the scanner, and found like 6 freaking codes. They're listed in the following order with the definitions (which i believe are correct):
P0748: Pressure control solenoid A electrical
P0133: O2 Circuit slow response (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
P0136: O2 Circuit (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
P1624: Malfunction of TCM component
OR Cooling fan relay circuit malfunction, low circuit
P0743: Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit electrical
P0747: Pressure control solenoid A stuck on
Anyone have any clue as to what these all mean? Do these all point to a bigger problem that is causing all of this as a result? I have no idea what in the world could be wrong with my poor tibby...any and all help/thoughts/opinions would be
greatly appreciated.

The dash light has gone out on my air conditioning. The light use to flicker periodically but has now gone out totally. Has anyone had this issue before? Could it be a bad connection, fuse or something greater? When the light use to flicker the ac would come on and off with the light, now it doesn't even come on with the defrosters or when the ac button is press in.

The car is a 2001 Tiburon 4 cylinder. The engine temperature guage will not register above cold. The wire is connected to the sensor good and there is continuity through the sensor. Does anyone know of any likely points of failure.
BTW - There are two sensors located side-by-side on the engine. I'm assuming the forward sensor is for the guage and the aft sensor is for the engine management CPU. Am I assuming correctly?
Thank you.

I have a 2000 tiburon and the abs light is on, i found air in the line when i bled the system but now my brake light is on as well. i just bought this car and do not know much about it. also it seems hard to start you need to let it crank for about 20 seceonds and tap the gas before it fires up. then it smell a bit like gas. any ideas. i replaced the plugs last night with NGK witn .04 gap. this problem is still there i had the codes read for the check engine light and they said that the second exhaust sensor is what threw the code up. is something else going on because if i reset the computer the light wont come back on till i go to start the car and it starts hard. then there will be a bit of smoke and the light will come on.
any help would be great.
Thanks,

I have a 2000 Tiburon that has 39,000 miles. I noticed the other while installing a new cd player that when the car is in gear with the key turned on it makes a strange buzzing clicking sound that comes from the front of the car. It makes the sounds both while the car is running and while it is off but only when the key is on and it is in gear. It does not make the sounds while in park or neutral. It has to be something electrical because it does it while the car is turned off as well as long as the key is in the on position. Does anyone have any idea what this might be and if it could be a major problem? T

I get a squeaking noise in the mornings when I start up my car. It's more of a chirping kind of squeak, and it happens more often when I place the car in drive. It happens more frequent with the car is shaking since I can get it to become a constant squeak by pushing the raise window button which causes my car to shake more and since the window is already fully up.
I thought it was a fan belt so I did a quick check and they seem fine. I can push on them just slightly which I believe is enough tension that they need. But since the noise will go away after driving the car for about 15 minutes, I'm left scratching my head on this one. The noise goes away after 15 minutes so is it just something that needs to be oiled?
I figure most other things like a belt would be constant and not go away after a short time. I can't seem to find any noise when I check under the hood that sounds like a squeak. Could the shocks or struts be involved, and if so how can I check them?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and any help for be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Does anybody know what the color codes for a 2001 Tiburon stereo.
The manufacturing harness was damaged when I was taking out the stereo and what not able to fix. I purchased a new stereo and the wire colors are not matching up. Also a few extra questions.
1 Would a dealership be able to supply this information, or infact fix this?
2 will this affect any other part of the car till I get this fixed?

On driving in to work today (100 miles) I hit a bump and what looks like the heat shield for the catalytic converter dropped off. This is what I'm thinking it to be. The piece seems to be a shield of some kind with holes for ventilation and covers part of the exhaust system. Do I need to replace this piece? If it is the heat shield for the catalytic converter, is there a problem of replacing this piece or will the entire converter need to be replaced. Thank you for taking the time to read this and any help or advice would be appreciated.
