Many people do not realise that Hyundai U.S.A. have provided a free online Workshop Manual for all the Hyundai models that are sold in America.
To use this click :-
http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/default.aspEnter your car`s details & click the `Shop` tab.
It might be an idea to bookmark this to your favourites........& remember you can print off sections (or the whole manual!) as required.
Cheers,
Nick.

O.K. Guys!......over the months to come there will be lots of info. posted on here about basic tuning; which really boils down to engine breathing improvements : often referred to as I.H.E. (intake, headers & exhaust).
Whilst these performance enhancements are easily (but not always inexpensively!) obtained, it is worth rememberlng that, at the same time, THE UPGRADING OF BRAKES & SUSPENSION IS VITALLY IMPORTANT!......I`m sure these necessary improvments will also be covered at length!.
Anyway; once you have fitted your CAI (cold air induction kit), installed that`killer`cat-back stainless steel straight-through exhaust & bolted-on your new headers, most of you will want MORE.....but probably won`t have the means, or knowledge, to go down the Forced Induction path, (meaning turbocharging or supercharging).
If that is the case & you are staying `normally-aspirated`, then this excellent site will fill you in on some of the Stage 2 upgrades possible on the Tiburon`s/Coupe`s.
I.E.
Underdrive Pulleys
Upgraded Clutches
Aluminium Flywheels.... (yes that`s how it should be spelled Yanks!).
Here`s the link :-
My WebpageCheers for now,
Nick.

So last week i was driving down the highway and i had my check engine light come on. So the next day i plugged a scanner to it and i got a trouble code of P1624.MIL Req Sig So i did further research and its a Malfunction in the Indicator Light. then another thing said Its a Malfunction in Indicator Light for the TCM (Transmission Control Module) Then a day later the light went away and it drove fine. Is there any quick fix for this or is it not even worth getting looked at?? Suggestions please

Ok, so driving down the road to work today, I hear a funny noise and think nothing of it. As I pull into the parking lot, I realize my power steering is out and that my battery light and my "brake" light is on on my dash. I park the car, get out and notice there is steam emitting from underneath my hood... Look under the car and see coolant pretty much gushing out. At this point I was sure it was the radiator because of how close it was to the front of the car...
Upon further investigation, I learn that the same belt that runs the alternator and the power steering also runs the water pump (right?)... so now my hunch is that my water pump froze, causing my belt to snap and car to overheat.
My question is this- Is a water pump replacement on a 2000 tiburon a one person job? Or is it more involved (i.e., I attempted to replace a water pump on my little sister's Lexus once until I realized it involved playing with the timing belt, at which point we decided it would be best to take it in to the shop)? Furthermore, if anyone has a diagram of the belt/pulley setup that would be great, too. I really really appreciate all help. Feel free to email me, as well at (remove the stars) triciafitch*@*gmail.*com
Thanks everyone, so much.

Hi. Just signed up here. I have a 2000 Tiburon 5-speed. Got it new 8 years ago and only have 54,000 miles so far (I live very close to work).
I like my car
Anyways, car runs great but I'd like to fix some little things. Is there anyplace besides the dealer or junkyard I might check for parts? Stuff I need:
Antenna (got snapped off at the base)
Driver side door handle interior (broke off in my hand)
Lock assembly for the hatchback (got rear-ended (very minor). It closes but I can only open it from the inside latch)
Center console compartment door (the hinge snapped in 2)
That's about it. I'm sure my dealer in Orlando can get these parts but I'd like to research (possibly) cheaper options.
Thanks for reading!

Hi,
I am new to the Tiburon seen and just bought a 97 1.8L manual. The car has a new motor in it and I have been noticing that some times when I put the clutch in and come to a stop the engine will rev up between 2000 and 3000 RPM. I am not sure what to do now, I have checked the throttle cable and have fixed afew sensors that had bad connections.
I have red about this problem on the net and apperently it is quite common?
any help would be awesome.
Thanks all

Hi, a week ago i found out either my headgasket was blown out or my engine head was cracked (or both ><), and knowing it will cost around 1,000$ + (CAN) to repair, i was thinking about swapping the engine for a mitsubishi (heard its been done before) 4g63 or 4g63turbo engine (they run around 500$ close to where i live).
Since i have little knowladge about engine swaps, im looking for some help with my questions:
Is it possible to swap out the 2.0L DOHC from my 2000 tibby for a mitsubishi 4g63 engine ?
How much will it cost ?
Is it a direct drop ? or will it need fabrication $$$ ?
what year/model does the mitsu 4g63 engine has to be ?
If the mitsu engine does not fit... is their any other engine at all that will fit as a direct drop ?
Thanks!
(sorry for my english.. im from quebec!.. ie: french)

Hi, so my 1999 tiburon (auto tranmission) seems to work for all the gears but when it is shifted into reverse it just countinues to move in the forward direction. I have spoken to a mechanic and apperently the whole tranny needs to be rebuilt or I need a new tranny but has anyone else had this problem and knows of a way to fix it or atleast what is causing this problem to occur?
Thank you.

I am wondering if there are many Tiburon's running out there with over 100,000 miles and if so what work have you needed to do to them. I am trying to determine if it is going to be worth it to replace the timing belt or not on the car.... I have 100,400 miles on it. I have not had to replace anything on the car so far besides the brakes, tires, oil filter, and air filter. I am getting the rest of the blets replaced on tuesday and am wondering if I should get the timing belt replaced as well. I know the reccommended is 60,000 but so far no trouble. And if the rest of the car is going to start to fall apart then it may not be worth the $600 at this point. Let me know what you think......

I have an 08 tiburon that has cold air intake, exhaust, headers. yet i'm told by everyone that i need to rebuild the engine to add on a supercharger and yet im told my tiburon owners that i don't need to rebuild it. except they have the 04 model with the tuscani racing engine in it that puts out 195 hp. unlike my v6 which does 178.
So Should I sell the 08 for an 04 or can i just throw a supercharger in the 08 without having to rebuild the engine??

I have a 99 tiburon with a 2.0 4 cyl. Just started last week and the noise has been increasing. Only happens as I shift it into first and second gear and stops after that. As I let off the clutch going from neutral to 1st it sounds like the engine bogs down or has a tougher time to accelerate. Then the same into second. Once it gets moving into 3 gear and higher it goes away. I do not get that noise if its in neutral and i accelerate or if I roll down a hill. It sounds kind of like a slight grinding noise. or something loose between the tranny and engine? I was going to check the transaxle oil to make sure there was enough fluid in there thinking it may be from low oil. This car has about 175K on it.
Thanks for help

Ok so my girl has a 98 tib and i think theres an electrical issue..
first off the whole left side of the car lights are out.. then on the right side the headlight is out but the turn signal is on.. so basically its narrowed down to an electircal issue..
i checked the fuses by the drivers side panel and they all were ok.. so we took it to a shop and they said its the wiring harness.. he said he tried to find where exactly but couldnt for 3hrs.. he said he would try and put a new fuse in and itll just blow..
so my question is, how much is a new harness, and/or can i check myself for a short somewhere?
thx

My son's 2001 Tiburon developed a squeal when the wheel is turned near the steering stops. Eventually the problem worsened and we replaced the pump with no change. I happened to be looking at the pump when it was making this noise (son in car turning wheel) and realized that the pulley pump was stalling. Aha! I said to myself, all I need to do is replace a worn belt, which solve the problem. Actually replaced all 3 belts.
However, 3 weeks later, the squeal is back and happens when the car is stopped or moving slow when the wheel is turned. The belt is still properly tensioned.
It appears that the pump is under more load when the wheel is turned - especially at a standstill. Enough of a load to stall it. How is that possible?
What could cause this problem? The only things left are the rack and the hoses.
If necessary, how difficult is it to replace the rack (shade tree mechanic)?

I am looking for anyone who can help me or point me in the right direction. I have just bought a 1999 tiburon for dirt cheap as they said that the motor was dead. I got it home and tried to start it and no firing at al but the belts still turned. At one point when I tried it it seemed like I heard a quick faint fire. I dont know much about engines but from what I have heard is that if the belts turn then it is not the engine. Is this true? Now I checked the oil which was full and it looks old, dirty, and not watered down. I open the drivers side door with the key in the ignition and it will make a none stop chime. Not sure if that is any relation just trying to point out everything I have noticed. The lights and radio still come on but when i try to start it everything turns off. If anybody has any ideas for me please let me know them. Thank You!

My Tiburon has 75,000 miles and never had a problem until today. I was driving and first the radio just went out, then the speedometer and the turn signals stopped working. Also the airbag light came on. Then the car completely died and when I tried to start it again it just clicked. The power windows still work as do the interior lights. Does this sound like an electric relay or more like the alternator?

Hey all, I gots me a 99' tibby and she's not doin' well.
Issue 1) Same **** issue as
LinkTHIS, it does not happen all the time but when it does it's damned embarrassing because everyone thinks that I'm revving to race them.
The old people REALLY give me a funny look.
So anyone else with this issue, did you get it fixed? What's the solution?
Issue 2) In EVERY gear when I rev my tib to 3-grand it feels "rough". Best way to say this is it almost feels like when you veer off the high way and you ride that rough concrete that makes your car vibrate loud....like that but not as much. follow? Oh and I swear there's a power loss as well, just doesn't feel as "peppy" when it hits 3-grand.
Issue 3) When ever I take a right hand turn, my tib makes a "clicking" noise that sounds like it's coming from my wheel wells. It's the loudest when the car has not warmed up. I first noticed this about a month back, it was real quiet, now it's just getting worse and worse!
I know I'm mechanic bound, but any help from any of you would be greatly appreciated!!!
-Word to your mother.

I am trying to remove the tranny from a 97 with a 5 speed with a 2.0. I have everything removed from the case. All the bell bolt have been removed and there is a 1/2 inch gap between the block and the case but it will not come out. I think it might be catching on the release bearing but im not sure. If it is, how the **** do i get it off without breaking anything. If anyone has run into this problem i would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

Just wondering what you guys considered a fair price to have the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump replaced, including new parts?
I'm trying to find a shop to do it and have found a large variation in price, also, their parts price is way high compared to like parts' stores prices. I know it might be higher quality parts, but cmon, twice or more as much?
Thanks in advance.

Ok so I bought my 2000 tiburon about a month ago.. and everything was going swimmingly until my cigarette lighter stopped working. I run pretty much whatever I can on my cigarette lighter (phone charger, ipod, gps, etc) and not having it working is driving me crazy! so I looked under the hood for the fuse box and replaced a fuse, but it's still not working so I'm guessing htere is another fuse box somewhere else... my clock was also working at one point but now doesn't work either.. my guess is that maybe they run off the same fuse? I don't have an owners manual so if someone can just tell me where I can look to find these fuses.. thanks a ton!

I just blew a hose on my way home and I cant seem to figure out which one it is i have a few images if anyone can identify it for me.

I'll give a brief description. It looks like it runs from the back of the engine block and runs along the passenger side wheel well.
Also along with that I've been losing power and acceleration. I cant seem to get it up to speed but once I do it'll slow down when i come to a hill. When this started my exhaust got loud like I'm running without a muffler or cat. Thanks for any help in advance.

My friend has a 2000 4-cylinder tiburon coupe. He already has had a custom cold air intake on the car which was place around 6 inches away from the engine block and also sat on top of the compartment very close to his carbon fiber hood. He says this intake sucks and takes in hot air, so he buys a new AEM cold air intake that sits very low, right on top of the splash guard. After we put it all in and were all set he starts the car. The car had no power, the intake manifold was very loud and sounded to be sucking in air from a hole but no hole was clearly visible. Smoke was rising from the engine block. A smell of burning grease (i think) was coming out also. Is the carburetor messed up, is there too much air or not enough? Please help

so i have seen some pictures of 2000 tiburons with different colored spark plug covers and i cant find them for sale anywhere.
i am pretty sure that they are called spark plug covers cuz that is what the repair manual for the elantra calls it. if thats not what they are called other places what i am talking about is the piece of plastic right on top of the engine that has the hyundai symbol and DOHC on it.
my car is blue and i want there to be some blue under the hood too, so i am looking for a blue spark plug cover... does anybody know where to find them?

Hi everyone, I am new here. Let me start out by saying I am fairly unschooled with Hyundai as a whole. I am a Dodge musclecar guy (yes I have heard all knocks you can come up with and I know Dodge could have had better engineers), I am familiar with 1980s GMs because I have had several and I am getting to know Toyotas pretty well too. Well, I have been neglecting my GF car because we werent living together and whatnot and now I have a problem! She took it to a mechanic because we thought the fuel pump was failing and I did not want to deal with it. Long story short, it wasnt- they tuned it up and sent her on her way. I finally drove the car and noticed it had NO power and then the misfiring started. After a lot of head scratching, I noticed her spark plug wires were not correct.
So, my first question: Is this firing order correct for a 1998 2.0 FX:
http://autorepair.about.com/library/firing.../bl-fo-4735.htmThats how I hooked it up and while its immediately better, it still misfires and I fear her coil is toast. I think I might as well get new plugs while I am at it. I welcome any thoughts and thanks-
Let me rephrase- does that page show the correct cylinder numbering?

Hey everybody, I've noticed my tibby start idling oddly and I'm sure it must be the fuel filter. I bought it with 100k miles on it and have driven it 30k without even being able to find the filter but I'm worried to let it go on longer... so here I am.
Any of you know where that thing is?

I have a project where I intend to use the older style MAF sensor (the one that does not have a rectangular box on top) from a 2001 tiburon.
I would like to know what the diameter of the intake piping is. Based on pictures on the internet, I gather it is 2-3 inches, but I can't be more exact than that.
And using 6500RPM redline, 2.0L, 80%VE, I'm getting a high end flowrate of 5200 liters per minute; or ~183 CFM. Knowing the intake piping inner diameter will help me apply it to my use.
Thanks in advance.
