hi,
does anyone have any experience of the fuel consumption for tuscon. I just got my 2.7 l and it seems to be drinking gas. The trip computer says I get 18.1 L/100km.... which is way off the 10 l/100km in the hyundai brochure.
could this just be that it needs running in? I hope so as its way off even my old santa fe when it comes to fuel ecomony!
anyone else have similar experiences?
cheers
Neil

I am in Canada and own a 2005 Tucson 4wd LX 2.7. I have owned since new and now have 130,000km on it. I have always only gotten 430-460 km to the tank, depending on my driving ..... that's about 12l/100km or 8-9km/litre. MY BEST fuel efficiency is in July, it increases up to July and decreases into the colder weather. My last fill up I got 390km to 55litres. My math shows that at about 14l/100km. This is typical of my last 4years.
QUESTION: Is there a computer setting that effects the fuel consumption based on the ambient temperature?

My '05 2.7L Tucson AWD gets terrible mileage. My old Subaru had a fuse that you could pull out that essentialy turned it into FWD only. Since there are only a couple of months out of the year that I really need AWD, I was wondering if there was a similar ability with the Tucson and, if so, would it make any noticeable difference in the mileage? In the Subaru, I noticed a 2-3 mpg increase. Thanks!

Hi,
I just bought a Tuscon and would like to know if it is better to purchase factory installed sensors or a third party sensor ?
I would also like to know if the sensors that are drilled in to the bumper are the batter ones ?

Hi,
I am planning to buy used Tucson 2006, 2L, 2WD, 30000 KMs, Automatic Transmission. I will appreciate if someone can share gas consumption/driving experience. My weekly journey is about 350 KM (65% City - 35% highway).

Does anybody have an 07 or 08 5 speed manual Tucson front wheel drive?
What fuel economy do you achieve on the highway, and in the city?
I'm interested in purchasing one, but I would like to know the real world fuel consumption, rather than the government issued figures.
I've done a search, but the result was zero

One thing I have noticed with my journeys to and from work. I used to log 28.5 miles each way when driving my Toyota Carina (could sometimes claim mileage if called out) Now I am recording 26.3 for the same journey!! Could the Tuc be under declaring mileage? Has anyone else out there noticed any change in your jouney length?

A question to all Tucson CDX or GSI CRTD 6 speed owners:
If there is an improvement (in reality, not just what is stated in the brochure) in the fuel consumption of the latest Tucson 138 bhp, 6 speed box CDX or GSI over that of the older 5 speed versions, can anyone please comment on how much better (if at all!) it really is?
Or if you didn't have the older one before, and are unable to give comparison figures, please just say what you are now getting in mpg overall.
Many thanks in advance,
Will Owen

Hello Everyone,
I am in the UK and I'm new on this forum, having joined only yesterday, so hi everyone!
I have almost completed a p/x deal; my Vectra GSI 3.2 V6 for a 2005 Tucson CDX CRTd. However, I am holding back at present as I have only discovered some disturbing feedback from current owners concerning fuel consumption. First of all, can anyone please tell me whether or not the consumption on the latest, 138 bhp, 6 sp. box model is significantly better than the 111 bhp, 5 sp. box version that I'm thinking of getting?
I am currenty getting 35 - 37 on a long, mostly motorway, run with our GSI 3.2. If the Tucson is going to be worse than that - or even only roughly the same - then there is little point in changing. I had hoped that dropping from a 3.2 petrol to a 2 litre diesel would mean lower fuel bills, but now I'm not so sure. Please help!
Best regards,
Will Owen

Hi all, this is my first post but I have been a

happy Tucson Elite V6 owner since April this year. We love our Tucson except for, you guessed it fc. We are averaging 14.5l/100k after doing about 8500km.
Anyway getting to my topic title, I spoke with the Victorian state office for Hyundai today wishing to get some Aussie input regarding Hyundai Aust thinking about fc. The guy I spoke with advised they have received very little comments/complaints etc from Aus drivers, as I explained to him about this forum. However he advised from their actual tests (ie office staff driving a Tucson) they have been averaging 13 - 15l/100 and that you will never get the advertised 11l/100. So I suggest any Aus Tucson owner who is not happy to contact their state and or national Hyundai office and voice your concerns.
I will get back to you guys with the response I get from the Victoria state office.
Cheers

Hi:
I have a Tucson 2.0 (2006) and drive mostly in town at 1500 M elevation. Some road driving up to 3000 meters elevation in the Andean region. I have so far 2500 km with my new car and I see about 12.5 L/100 Km of fuel usage, average.
Just to start this topic, I would like to see other owners in the region posting comments and share their experience.
It would be interesting to see improvements from Hyundai on fuel consumption, since fuel price is going high and there are no hopes to see it going down, and as said in other posts, 12.5 is far from the specs fuel consumption. Do we have to wait until 15000 Km to see improvements ? The software mod is available in our region ? Does it work ?
cheers...

Hi All
If you were promised modifications by Hyundai some months ago then Its about time that Hyundai were chased to see when they will be provided.
hope you all agree with me.
My chaser has already been sent.
I am really getting fed up with promises and as its DECEMBER that doesnt leave long till a New year comes around does it?
Put your details here if you do a chase, that way we know how many people need the modifications and how many read this forum
Regards all

Hi all
Had the "upgrade" today, after 34460 miles in my Tucson - too early to tell yet if there is any improvement but I am annoyed that the overall mileage counter has started again from zero - I now have to calculate the service intervals manually and will no doubt lead to some interesting discussions with potential future buyers!
My local dealer said that the mileometer can be reduced but not increased, which didn't seem to make sense to me, surely Hyundai would have thought of that when designing the upgrade - obviously not!

I have never bothered to check the fuel economy of the Tibs i've owned before because i knew they were 'pretty good' . However on a recent trip i decided to find out exactly how good/bad the little v6 is in a Tiburon . I drove from Sudbury , Ont. to Ajax , Ont. at speeds ranging from 90-120 kph , averaging around 100 kph/60 mph . At fillup with the fuel guage showing just below 1/2 full after travelling 401 kilometers the tank took 29 litres .
29 litres = 6.37 imp gal. = 7.63 us gal.
401 km = 250 miles
7.25 l/100 km = 39.3 mpg/imp = 32.3 mpg/us
At 2500 rpm/60 mph/100 kph my dash multi-guage was showing around 7 l/ 100 k , pretty accurate .

Hi All,
I spoke to the dealer again about the fuel consumption problem on the Tucson. He agreed with me but stated quite honestly that unless people complain then Hyundai Korea will do nothing as Hyundai UK is merely a distribution centre in effect.
I'm writing to Korea and suggest that we all do to try and put a bit of pressure on them to alter the EMU as the dealer feels that is where the problem is. He admitted that the car they used for test drives was a concern due the high fuel consumption and he raised it with Hyundai UK.
I'm also writing to a number of motoring magazines and particularly the journalists who recommended the car on the basis of the good fuel consumption.

I apologise for posting this on both Tucson sites but
All over the Tucson site we now see the following message.
Moved to a more appropriate category:)
--------------------
Kia-Forums.com
Please explain to your members where they will find the items that they are seeking or regularly looking at!I know some people are miffed about the number or amount of messages about the fuel consumption.
Is that why they were moved away from the actual site to their own site boards?
We really ought to be told officially as it looks like you are trying to hide the issues that many owners feel this site is good at solving!
You see some of the more cynical may infer that this site is affilliated to Hyundai and maybe Kia and the Company has asked that these issues be moved.Thank you
Itza

Hi giys as promissed I would present test results as soon as available over longer distances
tucson CRDI Total 22118 km
total during test 21081 km
used petrol 2047
makes it 1 litre per 10.3 km
which is 29.1 MPG UK Canada and 24.23 MPG US
these results come from having a lot of different drivers take it for a spin or holiday, on average they probably drove it a bit faster than they would do with their own car as the car magazine pays for the gas/petrol.
Indeed the result is not as good as presented in the catalog where it states that on average it should do 1 litre per 14,3 km
well for what it is worth , hope you appreciate the update

Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket parts available that may reduce fuel consumption? Computer chips are available for most makes that improve performance at the cost of mileage but I want to go the other way. I'll give up a little performance to save at the gas pump. Also what about smaller fuel injectors? Any thoughts?

Hi everyone new owner of a Tuscon also new to the site, although I have been reading the posts for a couple of weeks.
It seems that a lot of people have made a major purchase without researching what they have finally bought.Fuel effiency etc is one of the biggest bug bears that this site's members post. You purchased a 4x4 surely you must have read a little about what was out there before going along to the dealership. My purchase was made on a compromise of not great miles per gallon but at least you had all the comforts that other 4x4 only offer if you had departed with 10 or twenty thousand of pounds more. After only a couple of weeks of driving I still think I have made the correct decision and wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to friends and family.Sorry to bleat on but a positive response was needed to some gripes that people were making......

I have a 2005 base Tucson 2.0 gas 5 speed manual, front wheel drive. Like most here, I complain about the fuel consumption and how it doesn't get what Hyundai says it will. I live in the country and do very little urban driving. I average about 10L/100 kms or 28.5 mpg imperial. At a steady 100 kph in top gear the engine is at about 3000 rpm.
Recently I did an entire tank at about a steady 2000 rpm or 65 kph and below (don't ask). Big difference. 8.5 L/100 kms or about 33.2 mpg imperial. Got over 100 extra kms per tank. I always thought 3000 rpm was too high for steady highway speeds. So maybe it's not the computer after all. Something as simple as a taller tire will drop the rpm and should improve FC.
Now for all you mechanical types out there. The Tucson is just an Elantra underneath. The Tucson is about 210 kg heavier but seems to have plenty of power for normal driving. The final drive of the Tucson is 4.533 while the Elantra is only 3.65. Could you swap out the final drive of the Elantra into the Tucson? In the old days of rear-wheel drive swapping gears was easy. I know nothing about front- wheel drives.

Good day to all Tuscon CRTD Owners
How do you find your new vehicle?
Is it a pleasure to drive?
What mileage have you covered to date?
What mileage to the gallon are you getting?
I am semi-retired and am intending to compile a full Excel spreadsheet showing vehicles spec., (ie 2.0 CRTD CDX) Date of Purchase, Age of Owner (To show we are not speed kings), Current Mileage, Current MPG and anything else that you can provide to prove the problem.
(Your names and addresses and a contact email address would also help).
I fully understand and advise that I have no intention of passing these details on to anyone at all (Unless you agree that I can put them to Hyundai who should really know us all!).
Once completed the Excel report can be presented to Hyundai UK for them to send to Korea to prompt them into providing a solution to what appears at this time to be excessive fuel consumption of one of the most inspiring vehicles that I have owned. (The MPG promised by Hyundai was definitely the clinching factor in my purchase...I could have bought another proven produced 4x4 for the same amount of cash!)
If you agree with this idea please forward all you can to:-
tuscon.dieselmpg@virgin.net
A copy of the final result will be sent to all Owners that assist prior to being sent to Hyundai
Regards
Geoff
SEVERAL REPLIES RECEIVED TO DATE KEEP THEM COMING PLEASE

After 14 months, many letters, solicitors letters, being fobbed off by various members of the 'customer service team' I received a letter two days ago saying my fix would not be available till april. Today two days later I have received the fix and they have cleverley reset my milometer (the one that says how many miles in total my car has done) has been reset to zero. This is illegal in the UK. The dealer who 'fixed' my car has told me to take it up with Head Office. I am now at my wits end with hyundai and I will sue. I recommend you don't take up the fix in its current state. Good Luck.
If any one wants to bring a joint action please get in touch

It looks as if the long awaited mod is about to happen.I have had official notification that I will be contacted by the dealer within the next few days and the mod. will be carried out.
Great news and long overdue.I will be delighted to get a instant view on fuel consumption and hopefully get over the magic 30 MPG on a run.
Has anyone else had the good news yet or has my pestering Hyundai monthly paid dividends?
