My 2006 has the suspension noise up front. I had my car in today for its first service and to get the sunroof adjusted. I talked to the service manager at length about the suspension noise. He told me that Hyundai has admitted there is a problem and is apparently engineering a fix. He told me that in the next 30 days or so they would have revised shock/strut assemblies in stock. I have seen no official TSB or anything yet, but at least if my service manager knows about it there might be some truth to it.

OK, if all things are equal (price, model, accessory package etc) which year Azera would you buy and why! I am trying to decide between a 2006 Limited or waiting a little and getting a 2007 Limited possibly with the Ultimate package.
The concern really is the difference between the two model years (Limited), is the quality slightly improved in 2007 as you would think in the second year? Are there more eliminations in the 2007 base (Limited) ie; full size spare, std floor mats etc? And are there many upgrades to 2007 vs 2006 (Limited).
I have been reading this forum for over a year now and hold all you in high regard for your analness
Much Thanks

I just came back from a bar show in Las Vegas and drove a guy to the airport and back that was also attending. This guy works here in the area and wanted to bumb a ride with me because he didn't want to leave his brand new SUV at the airport for a few days
So I picked him up on Monday morning and we drove to the airport in my Azera.
"So this is an Azera" he said. "Sure has plenty of room and looks nice inside. As we were driving along he asked questions about the car, how much it cost, how I liked it, heated seats, the radio and so on. As we got on the highway he said Wow this thing really rides nice, can't even hear any road noise." "Yea I love it" I said.
When I came back to the long term parking at the airport on the return the lady busdriver said where did you park and what kind of car do you have. I said row 5 first spot and it is an Hyundai Azera. I never heard of that one. I said most likely there isn't one in this entire parking lot which had several thousand cars in it. My buddy said can I drive it back to your house. I said sure and he did. My buddy now says he wished he looked at the the AZERA before he bought his Ford SUV which he has had in the shop three times already.
Lesson Number One
Buy an AZERA need I say more!

This our second night with our new Azera and I just noticed that a red light is blinking from the interior at the bottom of the windshield on the passenger side. The car is unlocked, so it shouldn't be a security light. Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I owned my Azera for couple of months already. Love everything about it, but one feature that I been troubled with was the Fog Light. Sometime I want the fog light on without the headlight on, but have to have both on at the same time. Can this be fix by the dealer or no?

I recently purchased my 2006 Azera SE. After driving it for about a month, I have become more aware of a definite lag when, in the automatic mode, the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. Other shifts do not seem to be affected. This happens under most any type of acceleration, although it is less noticeable under light acceleration. Has anyone else experienced this with their Azera? I am scheduled for my first oil change (dealer paid) in the next week or so and I would like to have more information when I speak with the service writer.

...you know, the one with the "H" on it, would you be willing to part with it? To be honest, I'm looking for a black one.
So...anyone out there that has replaced their Azera grille with the "H-less" version, and you have a black Azera. Please let me know if you would be willing to maybe sell your old grille to me.

I am presently a 2002 XG350L driver (also a 2004 Santa Fe) and am anxiously waiting until the Azera gets the XM radio before buying and selling my wife's XG350. Has anyone seen a 2007 Azera with the XM radio? If so how does it look (screen display), and what was the upcharge for the XM option or is it part of a package? I'm ready to buy as soon as a 2007 Bright Silver with black interior, the Ultimate package and the XM radio is available.

The owner's manual tells you to remove the entire head light assembly to replace the bulbs. There are 2 bolts and one nut to remove to make this happen. However, I have found that one side is easier to remove than the other. The driver's side light came out with only a little effort. The passenger's side light...the best I could do was work it forward a bit and change the bulb that way. It made it a bit more difficult, but I managed. Has anyone else had this issue, is there a trick anyone can post to make it easier in the future???

Hi everyone, does any azera owner use the Hyundai website? I signed up to keep track of my service and oil change, but I been wondering why the service and Maintenance schedule for azera is not available? The service and Maintenance schedule for all other models are there on the site. Am I supposed to acquire the service and Maintenance schedule from the dealer or all of us are having this problem?
Take care everyone, is pretty cold in NYC these days.

I couldn't be happier with my Azera this winter. Here in the Ohio Valley this month has been something else. The temps have not made it over 32 in over a month. Lows have been around -2 and we have had plenty of snow and ice.
The Azera handles so well in the snow and even the ice. I have complete confindence driving my Azera in these conditions. When I had my Camry I got stuck more than one time and it handled poorly in the snow not to mention the ice. It was even hard to start when the temps got down around zero.
The last few nights the wind chill has been at -7 and still no problem starting the car. The tires don't even spin as the car has so much traction in the snow. It could be becasue the car is heavier and maybe the wider tires may have something to do with it but it does very good in the worst conditions.
My dealer called me the other day out of the blue and asked me how I liked my new Azera. I told him I loved it. The only complaint I had was the clunk at low speeds but I can live with it. He told me I am not the first person who complained about the clunk and Hyundai is going to address this matter in a timely manner. So Hyundai does know about the clunk problem which is a good thing.

I found a survey from Hyundai in a pile of papers this evening. I have no idea when Hyundai sent it. It’s an Azera Owner Survey and it covers virtually all aspects of the vehicle.
It starts off with a SE or Limited and then a few options. From there it moves into:
· Satisfaction Rating
· Noise Exterior / Interior
· Body & Exterior Trim
· Heating, AC & Ventilation
· Electrical Components & Accessories
· Steering / Handling & Ride
· Interior
· Brakes
· Engine
· Transmission
· And then some basic info gathering
One thing I found encouraging is that they provided an “Unusual Suspension Noise” choice. Maybe I’m reading into this too much…but we can hope can’t we?
Has anyone else received this? It's a great opportunity to let someone hear your praises and concerns. It gets sent back to:

I continue to look at all the Azera threads to see how my Azera stacks up to the problems other owners have with their Azera. I seen the following.
Wind noise
Sunroof Leaking
Trunk leaks
Of course the Clunk
Trunk lid pops open
Sub woofer vibration
Steering wheel vibration
Tire problems
Engine noise
Headlight problems
Thud of the keys bumping on the plastic
Center storage conpartment vibration
Not much else. I alway heard that cars made on Mondays and Fridays have more defects. Not sure it that is true but it very well could be. On my Azera knock on wood. I only have one problem, and that is with the clunk. I guess the Azera's with the Clunk were made on Tuesday. The Azera's with the wind noise problems were made on Thursday and so on. Its funny that all Azera's have all the problems listed above. Yet the problems above all can be fixed except for the clunk. What do you guys think?

I've seen several kits on-line for the '06 Azera with prices ranging from $175 to $350. Has anyone bought one of these kits yet? What company has the best match?
The last time I bought a wood dash kit I paid $112 for a 2000 Chrysler 300M. Color was lighter than factory plastic so I sent it back. Cannot remember the vendor; it was an e-bay purchase.

To improve the above condition, this bulletin provides the procedure to reprogram the
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) using the Hi-Scan Pro.
VEHICLES AFFECTED:
• Model: 2006 AZERA vehicles

My Azera is about a week old with around 200 miles. I notice that on the highway at speeds of 70MPH the entire front end has a vibration. You can see and feel the vibration in the steering wheel while driving. I also have the suspension clunk problem.
Anyone have and know a fix for the wheel vibration?
I also had the poor lighting problem. I aimed the lights a little higher as suggested by other members. Haven't driven it at night since the adjustment to see if it helped.
I'm beginning to second guess my purchase of the Azera. I have a friend who works at the Hyundai plant in Montgomery, AL. After hearing him talk about how peculiar Hyundai is on quality and their strict factory/assembly inspections; I'm surprised to see so many problems with the car being less than two weeks old. (I know this one is assembled in Korea, but their guidelines on quality/assembly line inspections should be the same)

Well here in the midwest the temps have been under 20 for over a week dropping in the single digits and snow...well here in Cincinnati we have six to seven inches on the ground with a layer of ice in spots, making driving conditions a challenge.
All in all my Azera has done very well in these adverse conditions. The heater is blowing out some very warm air, the seats are keeping my bottom and my back very warm, the car starts up everytime, no matter how long it sits in zero digits and the driving of the car in the snow and ice has been a joy compared to my old Accord and Camry. The Azera drives much better in the snow as the car is heavier. I thought the bigger tires would be a drawback in the snow, but this is not the case.
The other night we had a big snow for Cincinnati and while I was out coming home from work many people were stuck in the snow my Azera made hills with an ease and I got home without any problems.
Knock on wood, My Azera is doing very well in the winter so far and we have another round of snow coming by the first of the week.

This is a great site. I have had almost all my questions answered that the dealership had no knowledge of.
Thanks to all of the participants!!

Lets keep this as a sticky so that everyone can see what the national pricing is.
Please post your price for a new (not used) car with a clear breakup as follows so that comparisons can be made across states.
1. Model year ( some states are still selling 2006)
2. Model Type SE / LTD
3. Option package ( none / Premium / Ultimate)
4. Dealer price (incl all dealer fees, before any trade in or discounts not available to everyone eg. previous owner)
5. Dealer name and State
6. Date bought
Each state has its own TTL so leave it out. Just add +TTL

I had this big idea of ordering the XM capable head unit, trunk mounted XM receiver (they call the set top box) and the antenna from my local Hyundai dealer. No can do, they claim they cannot get those items if they did not already come on the car. ??? They promptly pointed me to installing an after market solution. NOT HAPPENING, I already have that and want it integrated into the factory radio.
So, I posed the question to my sales rep that I was not happy about my 2007 not having XM when the press releases said it was there. (I recently learned that all Azzys manufactured beginning in November 2006 now have XM. I don't know if any are on the ground in the US but I sure would like to know.) So since my Azzy is less than 3 months old, what would it take to swap it for one with XM when they come in?
I know you all think I can crazy, but I am a brat.

Yesterday was my first test run on the Azera in the snow. The steets were covered Sunday morning and I had to get to work. Boy my knees were knocking as here in Cincinnati three inches of snow and the city shuts down.
I cleaned the driveway early and then headed down the road. The car handled very well. Azera has more weight than my 2002 Camry. Of course I took my time and made it without any problem.

The downshift time is very long and should happen quicker to make passing safer. Does anyone know if the time is programmable?
If the TCM 'learns' your driving style there is a program; it may not be easily accessed but if 'learning' is involved there is a program.
Trick is, what is it 'learning'? How much throttle is applied when the downshift is made? And how long does the learned result last?
If there is a learned result there is a permanent fix. I see absolutely no advantage to delayed shifting and many disadvantages, mostly ones involving safety. Surely no one thinks easier engagement, i.e. smoother shifts, are better than quicker downshifts. Would that justify a letter to DOT on grounds of reducing safety far worse than not having ESC? Just think what a massive recall would cost Hyundai. Somebody didn't think this out.

When I joined this forum, I was hoping I'd be communicating with and comparing impressions with a fairly large group of people who owned XG's in the last few years, and when it came time to trade up to a new car, because of the postitive experience with the XG and the great service and warranty, chose the Azera.
I've had mine for two weeks now, and to tell you the truth, I'm a little underwhelmed. What I liked about the XG was it's "HEFT". It looked like a large, luxury car....as a matter of fact, people often mistook it for a Lincoln....and truthfully, it DROVE like a Lincoln. I have to admit, the Azera has a much more sporty feel and look, but I'm truthfully missing the sensation of sitting in a big smooth sedan. Anybody out there feeling the same way????

I just found out that my new 2007 Azera trunk will stay unlocked if the car alarm is not activated. If i forget to alarm the car all you have to do is reach above the rear license plate and open the trunk. Two weeks ago I had a trunk filled with gifts, if the keys deactivated the alarm while in my pocket, trunk opens and gifts are bye-bye.... not good. My old car had a 2 second push button response to opening the trunk to avoid this problem and always was locked independent of the door locks.

ily car began the email from a former employee and pit worker and I heard you bought a Hyundai. After all those years with ... why the azera?
Good question but easy to answer. I'd like to compare my reasons with the rest of you. WHAT REASONS() DID YOU HAVE FOR BUYING YOUR AZERA?
Most quiet, most room and comfort, most power, most useful features and best mechanical specs for the money with the $1000 rebate. I've ridden in Caddys that aren't even as much as half the value.
Yes, I know the handling isn't the best but every family car I've owned got handling upgrade based on SS racing experience so thats not a handicap. Yes. I know I whined about the oil filter and valve adjustment but thats just an old engineer's long-time experience. They aren't a reason to not buy as long as whats there is not incompetent - and neither are. The rest of the specs are first rate. Hondas aren't as well done for more money, neither are Nissans, Mazdas, or Toyotas. I recommended the Azera s to him strongly and he's gone looking.
PS: We think we have improved handlin greatly and about February first, when we're through testing, we'' list the improvements we made. Better, since the cost is less tha $150, plus labor, its better than all the other cars we've (more than 50 models and 200 cars. The results so far run with the BMW 3's and Honda Si's.
But why did you buy your Azera? Looking forward to hearing, especially about any specific reasons or features.
cheers.

Why does azera use shimmed valve clearances ?
When the cam acts dirctly on top of the valve stem its pretty hard to do otherwise.
(as in hard to do another way).
yes, I like the hydraulic you mentioned which sounds very similar to the Suzuki version which I like and has withstood many hours of racing on the Swift. Wish the Azera had those.
Call it what you want but if you change clearances by switching parts of varying thickness, its shimmed. What else would you call it?
All this bench racing is fun, just like teaching my tech classes but eventually has to end. Hope yall enjoyed the discussion as much as this old 70 year old veteran of racing, race car building and parts designing manufacturing. cheers

Azera has a style like no other car on the market today. Toyota Camry and the Avelon have the same body style, BMWs models all have the same or look about the same from the front, GM cars have the same look front or rear, Jags the same way but Azera doesn't copy from their other models.
Its a whole different style, a new crisp look, like no other car on the market today. Its amazing how many people stare at the car trying to figure out who makes it. Who needs a car that has the copy cat look. Azera is new and fresh with a few minor problems that will be worked out in a couple of years. Nothing like my brothers 2007 Ford Focus that has been in the shop for three weeks with starting problems, a radiator leak, and a rattle in the back window of the car. Fitting problems. Ford...FIX OR REPAIR DAILY.
We have a quality car with a look all of its own. So far I love my Azera and when they come up with a fix on the suspension I will keep this car for years.

What is that?
A member made the following statement in other thread:
"You apparently believe that the tappet 'buckets' are not shims; the truth is any clearance adjusted by substituting parts, no matter what shape, of differing thickness is defined as a shimmed adjustment."
Two possibilities here:
1. He actually believes that there's a separate part, a "bucket," on top of the tappet(lifter).
2. He knows what it is; inverted-bucket-SHAPED tappet, but tried to mislead readers.
Here is a dictionary definition of shim, courtesy of The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language:
"A thin, often tapered piece of material, such as wood, stone, or metal, used to fill gaps, make something level, or adjust something to fit properly."
Is there a bucket on top of the inverted-bucket-shaped tappets of the Lambda engine?
No, there is not.
Is there a shim on top of the inverted-bucket-shaped tappets(lifter) in the Lambda engine?
No, there isn't.
Any questions?
i rest my case.

With 10k miles on it, we're now into the rainy season, and I noticed that we're getting some water in through the rear edge of the sun/moon roof. Anybody else noticed this? In a downpour, you can see the water coming through when you slide back the shade. Now, we're getting a yucky smell in the morning that mostly clears out if you roll the windows down for about 10 seconds. We'll be sure to bring this up when we take it in for its next service, but we're curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar. Carpets and headliner are still dry...
