I was going to do a poll, but I can't get the poll function to work.
Anyway, I'm curious to hear how many Azera owners have had suspension issues with their Azera. In particular, the wallowing and harshness and/or clunking over rough/uneven pavement.
Please reply with the following info:
-Year of your Azera
-Mileage at which you began to notice a problem
-How many times your vehicle has been in to the dealer for this issue and the results of each "fix"
As for the Azera owners who don't have problems, please feel free to chime in with your experience as well.
If nothing else maybe one of us can forward this information to Hyundai Motor America. If enough people speak up about this problem they might take the issue a little more seriously.

I see nothing in any Hyundai ads for the Azera. Never. Even when they show the line-up of the Hyundai line, no Azera.
Is the car out of production? Are they phasing out? Did the Genesis take the spot held by Azera?
What gives?

I recently bought an Azera. I'm very curious when I driving to see who is also driving an Azera. I've noticed that it's mostly middle-age-to elderly men. I like to know simply who have you've seen driving our cars. Was this car marketed toward a certain target group?
Thanks -GrayKnight

ON smooth highway at varying speeds I can hear a rhythmic bumping/thumping noise from the front end of our 2008 Limited with 26,000 miles. It is speed sensitive but I can't tell if it would be a wheel bearing going bad or tire noise from the stock Michelins or maybe one out of balance though I don't feel anything as much as I hear something.
I guess I can take it to dealer to see if they can diagnose. Any thoughts or suggestions on what it might be? I've never been a fan of Michelins and I'll be putting a different tire on when i replace these which will probably be by 30K miles.
Thanks Mike

I tried really hard to buy an Azera limited.
I even gave them two different colors but according to the 3 dealers I went to, they couldn't find them anywhere in the country...
Hyundai do you want to sell this car or not, don't understand this, or the lack of advertisement on this model. Even the salespeople were remarking that no advertisement on this vehicle doesn't make sense.

I have a 2007 Azera. Love it. it's the best car I have owned. I have previously owned Fords Fiats Jaguars and Toyota's. This is by far the best car for the buck. It's been gerat except for a seat belt warning light and flat battery, which after reading forums posted here points to a hood close activator that I intend to investigate.
My real problem with the 2007 is the suspension is far too soft. Does anyone know of an upgrade kit? Or a relatively iexpansive way of improving the suspension. I don't want it rock hard like a sports car. I just want it to wallow around less. There was a discussion on this site once I think, but this site's search function is worthless.
So if you know of a previous discussion please snd me the link.
Thanks.

Hi all,
I have joined the forum today after seeing lot of helpful messages/suggestions from you all.
I got a 2006 Azera Limited with 50K miles this month for 10 grand.
Black on black leather. All the features are good.
But started to see some problems.
1. Battery drains completely and engine would not crank at all.
Reason - found the reason from this forum. Its the security system in active mode when hood switch is grounded. So i am planning use a wine bottle cork/rubber bush to stick in the hood and make sure it would work. I will update you if it works. The battery is brand new and yet it has died twice.
2. - Crack in dash. Its in the airbag area in passenger side.
I still have 10K warranty remaining. So can i ask the dealer to fix it for me?
3. Rear sunshade wont work(wont go up/down) and it makes crazy noise when i reverse and again in drive. Do you know how to fix this. I saw that i needs a plastic gear to be changed. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Subbu

Ok I have looked the site over and have a question. My 2009 Azera Limited has a ghost in it. Totally randomly the TPMS (letters) light just comes on and stays on just as randomly. I took it in and the tech said there were several self clearing codes but non specific. He asked me if I had a air freshener plugged in... I looked at him like he needed a drug testing. He went on to explain he had another customer who had one and every time he plugged it in the TPMS would light and when he unplugged it it would go away.
Nothing is plugged in or sometimes something is plugged in and it makes no difference! That light comes on whenever it wants and it is driving me batty!
Other than that we LOVE the Azera.
Any ideas from the techies?

Also whose stupid idea was it to make the DVD stop playing video when you start the engine? I can see it if you put it in gear but c'mon I had to start it to charge the battery and boy do the kids yell then!!!

The Azera was present at the Cincinnati Auto Show which started yesterday. Hyundai was right in front as people walked in the door. The Genesis Coupe was the first car followed by the new Sonata whiche was showcased on a platform Wow the new Sonata is a beautiful car. I looked at the Azera and it looked nice but they should have showed the Ultimate package instead of the lower end Azera. The color featured there was dull it just didn't fit with the rest of the Hyundai's that were on display.
The Azera and the Genesis were next to each other. Both cars are simular to each other except that the Genesis is longer has slightly different lines and the price is much higher. More options of course. I was talking to the gentleman that was overseeing the Hyundai sector there and he said that many people love the new Sonata and the Genesis Coupe. I must say the Genesis Coupe is a sharpe looking automobile. My buddy has never seen one. Again not many on the road. Hyundai did a good job advertising the car when it first came out but now it like Azera doesn't get much press.

Several months back the maintenance guys at the local dealreship somehow managed to screw the AC compressor

which was covered by the warranty and replaced with new one (or so they say). Ever since then the engine noise becomes louder and more audible when I switch the AC.
Can you tell me if you notice anything like that with your Azzie?
A simple experiment to compare - let your car slowly crawl (1st gear or D) with your foot off the accelerator and try to make a difference with the AC on and off. When I do this I can clearly hear louder noise from the engine compartment as if the motor is significantly loaded.

The 2006 and 2007 Azera had its share of problems with the suspension clunk yet the new models don't have the problem. A slight change in suspension and shocks took care of the problem. Hyundai should seize the moment and take advantage of Toyota quality issues that Toyota is now having.
Toyota is now feeling the blues with their new recall that could really spell big touble for the automaker down the road. Hyundai can take advantage of Toyota's recent setback and use it to put a positive spin on Hyundai newer models including the Azera. Hyundai is building consumers by using quality parts yet giving the consumer a stronger lineup with better quality, extended warranties, and solid sales in the last few quarters.

I have a 2008 Azera with 22k miles. For a year I have used it only once or twice a week. One day, I went to start it and the battery was completely dead. After jumping it - I took it to the dealer. They replaced the battery and said that the old one was defective. I then put it back in the garage and let it sit another week. It started right away a week later. Surprizingly (three days later) - the new battery was dead. What could be causing this sudden, intermittant battery drain. The alarm system beeps and flashes correctly when I arm it. I do not use the radio, but I do change the seat position regularly using the seat position memory buttons.

Last year my wife bought a 07 Azera program car. Aside from the usual problems ,handling, cracked dash ect. no major problems. Well a month ago one of the low beams burnt out. She stopped at NAPA picked up 2 bulbs and they won't fit. Well OK she returned them and they couldn't find anything else that didn't have the same base. Same deal at auto zone. So she went to the dealer and after calling one after another, mechanic sales person ect. they were all clueless. They will find out what is going on and get back to us with lightbulbs. It has been over a month ..........nothing. She has been pulled over twice for driving with one headlight. Anybody have a clue what is going on?????

So, here's he deal - I am located in Pennsylvania, which, like all of the Norheast, suffered record-breaking rain over the last 24 hours.
During a break in the rain this afternoon, I was out on a local 2-lane road, when I hit a patch of standing water at about 50mph. The water was several inches deep, and it hit the underside of the car real hard. But, everything seemed OK, so I kept going.
About an hour later, I started hearing a strange noise - it sounded like something dragging under the car. So, I pull off of the road, get out of the car and look underneath.
Since I am 66 years old and it was pouring rain (again), there was no way I could get under the car - but, from getting down on the ground and looking, there is something hanging from the underside.
It looks like it is about 6-8-10 inches wide and a few feet long. Almost definitely plastic, in the center of the underside, starting around the firewall and extending back a few feet. It looks like a plastic shroud that should be covering something in the area of where the driveshaft would be if it was a rear-wheel drive car. It came loose at the front but is still attached at the back end, so when you are moving forward, the air flow gets in there and pushes it down toward the road.
I wound up driving home, since it didn't seem to be any kind of emergency and I will take it to my dealer in a day or two, but I am trying to figure out what it is that's hanging down.
Can anyone give me a suggestion?

Hey guys, just an FYI ...
For those of you who change your own oil, but hadn't been able to track down the oil filter socket tool (hyundai pn 09263-3C100) at a decent price, I tracked down one from OTC tool that costs around $10.00.
It's pn
6904, and the info is
HERE.Made the installation a breeze and I felt good about being able to use my torque wrench with it.
It requires a 3/8" socket wrench.
Hope that helps someone.

I noticed the Azera a little while ago and started doing some research on it. It looks like a nice plush car but I'm hearing mixed reviews on it. On one hand, people are saying that they love it and they've had no problems. On the other hand, people are saying that they're having a bunch of problems with them and people are posting threads about selling them and being ecstatic.
So, what's going on here? Is it a great car that's nice and offers decent luxuries for a fair price. Or is it a bad car that I should steer clear of?
Also, I'm looking to buy either a Sonata or Azera. I'm looking for something that can wow people. I also have 20" rims from my last car I'd like to put on either of them (235/35/20). What's my best choice?

The 2011 Hyundai Azera GLS gets an enhanced 3.3-liter V6 with variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust side; previously it was only on the intake side. The result is an estimated 260 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 233 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm — this is up from 234 hp and 226 lb-ft in the 2010 Azera.
Hyundai predicts the revised V6 will return 20 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway — up from 18/26 on the 2010 version. Also helping economy is the new six-speed automatic transmission, which the company engineered in-house. Hyundai says it's 26 pounds lighter than last year's five-speed automatic. It's standard on all 2011 Hyundai Azeras. Expect to see it used widely in Hyundai's line, as this transmission is compatible with just about any transversely mounted engine.
The 3.8-liter DOHC V6 in the 2011 Azera Limited also gets a horsepower bump, again thanks to the addition of variable valve timing on the intake side. The revised engine delivers an estimated 283 hp at 6,000 rpm and 263 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm — up from 263 and 257, respectively.
Hyundai said it also expects fuel-economy gains with the bigger V6. The previous 3.8-liter V6 returned 17 mpg in city driving and 26 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The revised version is expected to return 19 mpg in city driving and 27 mpg on the highway.
The 2011 Azera models also get a fuel economy indicator that displays a green light to indicate when driving habits are contributing to good fuel economy.
Cosmetic changes on the 2011 Hyundai Azera include a new front bumper fascia, redesigned headlamps, a new chrome grille and round foglights. The rear gets new LED taillights and a redesigned bumper. Cabin changes are minor and include aluminum graining on the center console.

First time to post here. I'm going to purchase either a azera or sonata and would like to know if there is a difference in the interior size of these two cars. I now have a 04 sonata my wife drives. great car no problems since day one of owership. We are both retired and thinking about going to one car. The reason I'm asking is because it seems like very time I'm getting in the sonata I have to almost lay down to get in on the drivers side. Was wondering if the azera is easier to get in and also is it just roomier inside. I drive a pick up. Thinking about the 2011 models, that sonata on the inside looks almost like a 2011 lacross great looking car.

With a mild facelift for 2011, the important changes to the Hyundai Azera come as a result of changes to the two V6 engines, delivering more power and improved fuel economy. Both the standard 3.3-liter V6 and optional 3.8-liter V6 are still part of the package, but both mills now get added power and improved fuel economy thanks to DCVVT (Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing) and a new six-seed automatic transmission. Output for the 3.3-liter V6 is now rated at 260-hp and 233 ft-lbs of torque, an improvement of 26-hp and 7 ft-lbs respectively. Fuel economy is also up, rated at 20-mpg city, 28-mpg highway, an improvement of 11 and 8 percent
As for the 3.8-liter V6, it now makes 283-hp and 263 ft-lbs of torque (and improvement of 20-hp and 6 ft-lbs), while delivering 19-mpg city and 27-mpg highway (and improvement of 12 and 4 percent).
Other highlights include revised headlights and taillights, with revised front and rear bumpers, as well as some new wheel designs.

I have a 2007 Azera which I love. But I have great problems with getting the headlights adjusted. Hyundai dealer in Montreal Canada have tried to adjust them 3 times. On the 4th occasion the mechanic said I will show you how to adjust them otherwise I will have to charge you. All you need is a Philips screwdriver.
I have adjusted them down 3 times since and still I blind the cars in front.
When I drive up to a stop sign/traffic light the level is fine in the middle of the trunk for most cars. But once I start driving the lights raise and I am shining generally above the car.
There is only one way to adjust the lights UP or DOWN. It affects low and high beams together.
Problem is lowering it any further then I have trouble seeing very far in front of me at night on the highway.
I paid money to a web-site Answer-Me and their solution was to switch to Xenon headlamps, which are not cheap!
When I took it for service at Hyundai Prestige In Montreal, the service adviser said "No there is nothing we can do about it" End of story.
I had a Lexus ES300 prior to the Azera and it had an auto leveling feature which was terrific. No matter what you had in the back it would take care of the headlight level. There obviously is nothing on the Azera
Am I the only Azera owner with this problem?

I just installed a High output alternator in my 08 azzie and the mechanic said that I did not need to upgrade the wires running to the alternator and chassis also know as the BIG three upgrade due to the quality of the wires that the azzie comes with. Well after he was done when my subs hit the lights would still dim and it blew a sub? Is there something im missing or should i just do big three anyway?

This same topic I posted on the Edmunds Azera web site and was surprised how many were not aware of this cover. The item is called Upper Frame Partition P/N 85720-3L100, it goes in the trunk and covers the rear shelve speakers from brusing and dirt. It is part of the car and should of been installed during manufacturing but somehow got left off on many cars. If your dealer won't listen and help you, then call Hyundai at !-800-633-5151 and get a case number and tell them who your dealer is. You should not be charged for the cover or the 15 minutes it takes to install. I done this early this year and had the cover installed by the dealer within two weeks of my call. Whenever I'm at the dealer I look in the trunk of the new ones and never see the cover. The guys at the Genisus web site tip me off to this since they are having the same problem.

I would like advice about the adjustable pedals on the 2009 Azera. I do not own a Hyundai and never have, but I am seriously contemplating such a purchase. I want a Genesis but my wife says the front pillar blocks her view on a left turn. I am 6 foot and big, she is 4 ft 11". I heard about adjustable pedals on the 2009 Azera but they were discontinued for 2010.
Are they safe and will they do the job of accommodating 2 different sized drivers? Why were they d/ced for 2010? Should I start a search for a "new" 2009? How is the front leg room in the Azera?
Thanks

I was getting ready to drain and fill the transmission fluid but cant find the plug. Do I have to remove the plastic cover from under the engine. It looks like a protection cover. Also after reading so my of the blogs, I was wondering I should replace the fluid. I have 35k on the car. Some people said they never replaced their transmission oil and some said they did but then had issues afterwards. Any thoughts on this. I want to ensure that if I have a issue later on down the road my warranty will cover it.

I have been reading the post and it seems that most of the issues with the Azera are consistant across the board. I have an issue, i'm hoping that someone can lead me a direction getting a solution.
My 06 azera will not crank or start some times. I put the Key in and nothing happens. The lights and radio all the bells and whistles work but the car wont start or crank. I turn the key and nothing, just silence. I take the key out and wait for 2 to 5 minutes at most then the car starts.
I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this and what was the cause? Or does anyone have an idea of what can be the root of the problem.
I have taken it to the dealer and because the problem will not replicate itself for them, they can not fix it.
so any replies are greatly appreciated.
thanks
Ken

My OEM bulbs lasted into the mid-40K range, but I've had to replace the low-beams twice now within the past year. I am using the Sylvania H7 bulb. Now, I will admit that because the car doesn't have day-time running lights, I keep my low beams on whenever I'm driving the car (about 18K/yr).
What lifespan are other getting from their replacement headlight bulbs ??
TIA

I just purchased an 07 Azera SE with the standard CD sound system. I am going to install an in-line FM modulator so I can use my MP3 player in the car.
Before I go prying around and brake something, I was wondering how to go about removing the dash trim so I can remove the radio? I did a search and didn't find any procedure listed. Can anybody help me out? Thanks.

Question
My Azera 2006 loaded has a set memory of the seat, steering wheel and foot pedels. When one sets everything up the way one whats it it should stay set if one pushes the button on the door that reads SET.
I have done this one time when I got my new Azera but lately I notice everytime I put the key in the ignition to start the car the sterring wheel moves towards me. The same happens when I turn the car off the steering wheel moves back in place. Is there a way to lock the steering wheel so it doesn't move? I never noticed this before so I must have bumped something last week. I see on the bottom of the steering wheel there is a up down front back button. I thought there may be something there that locks the sterring wheel into a lock position, but there isn't.
Do I need to press SET on the door to keep the steering wheel locked?
Thanks

Yesterday (Sunday 9/21) I took a trip from Ft. Worth to Austin, TX. It was 204 miles one way.
Here are the details:
Azera limited/Ultimate 3.8L with no luggage or anything to weigh it down except for my big a&& in the driver's seat.
Departed 5:30 a.m.
Reset all info just after gassing up and two blks from interstate.
Interstate all the way except for all about 3 miles of the trip.
Road was virtually traffic free with little or no wind and a very flat road all the way. No construction slow downs.
I was able to use cruise control for all but about three miles of the trip because there was no traffic to contend with. I kid you not when I say my foot didn't touch the accelerator from the time I got on the freeway in Ft. Worth until my exit in Austin (about 200 miles).
I set cruise control according to the speed limit which was mostly 70 mph except for a few stretches where it was 65 mph and one stretch at 55 mph. I used the buttons on the cruise control to slow down and accelerate when necessary.
I traveled 204.3 miles from start to finish.
I filled up again when I got off the exit and checked the mileage. It was 27.7 mpg give or take a few tenths. This was very close to the car's computer read out on the instrument cluster (27.6 mpg).
My question is, how the he!! are people getting 30-33 mpg in highway driving unless they are traveling 45-55 mph to do it.
BTW, I've been averaging 17.6 mpg in light city driving. This is up from 16.+ since I started using full synthetic oil.

I noticed when I first start of my 2006 Azera at night or even durning the day and make the first turn of of my driveway or out of the parking lot at work there is a high pitched whining sound. Sounds like it maybe coming from under the car maybe from the back. I thought at first it maybe a belt (power steering) under the hood but it sounds like it coming from the back side of the car. It only does it one time mostly when its cold outside. Does anyone have this issue and what can it be?

Greetings,
I absolutely love everything about my 2008 Azera Limited, with one exception... The mis-matched green center stack illumination drives me crazy. Has anyone attempted switching the illumination over to something that matches the instrument cluster better, like perhaps the blue on the 09s? I also have an 08 Veracruz with the blue illumination and I'm kind of addicted to the look of that.
Thanks!!!
Eddie

Anybody have an idea where to install the hood ornament on a '08 Azera hood?
I bought a self adhesive one from a company in South Korea made for the Grandeur over there (same car).
Not sure how to measure on the hood to stick it on.
Any ideas on how to clean the surface before putting it on and the ideal temperature?
Thanks for your help,
M. Karns

Well last week I replaced my battery after 22,000 miles and was going to take my Azera back to get the hightlights checked out because they dim every now and then with the air and wippers are on. I have been watching to see if my lights dim after the battery was replaced last week and guess what. No dimming headlights. Maybe the dealer fixed the harness or something that holds the battery in place because the lights haven't dimmed in over a week.
I will continue to watch it but I think the problem has been solved. Now if I can just get rid of the clunk.
