We had passed to us by the former owner of our 2008 Azera, a recall notice card he received from Hyundai regarding a recall on certain 2005-2008 Hyundai for a potential problem with the stop lamp switch which may cause the brake lights not to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause the brake lights not to go out when the pedal is released.
The card had the incorrect VIN on it so i don't really know if it affects our Azera or not. Anyone else receive one of these notifications?
The attached letter asks us to make an appointment with the local dealer but i think I'm going to call Hyundai customer service and verify my vehicle is affected since the VIN on the card doesn't match mine though the card was mailed to the previous owner who we go to church with.
Comments?

I was going to do a poll, but I can't get the poll function to work.
Anyway, I'm curious to hear how many Azera owners have had suspension issues with their Azera. In particular, the wallowing and harshness and/or clunking over rough/uneven pavement.
Please reply with the following info:
-Year of your Azera
-Mileage at which you began to notice a problem
-How many times your vehicle has been in to the dealer for this issue and the results of each "fix"
As for the Azera owners who don't have problems, please feel free to chime in with your experience as well.
If nothing else maybe one of us can forward this information to Hyundai Motor America. If enough people speak up about this problem they might take the issue a little more seriously.

As I am driving my 2009 Azerra, every five or ten minutes there is a soft to moderately loud clicking (or clacking) noise for a second or two. I have tried pinpointing the location but it is difficult. When I have other people in the car, we each think the sound is coming from somewhat different locations.
The noise is loudest and most frequent when it is hot and the AC is running, so I am guessing it is associated with the cooling system.
I have taken the car in twice. The first time, a technician did admit he heard the sound but noone in the shop knew what it was so the service manager said she would do some research. The second time, the service manager said she had read the Sonata was making some clicking noises in the moon roof, so she had my Azerra's moon roof serviced. That didn't help.
Before I take the car in for the third time, has anyone else noticed a similar noise or read about the problem elsewhere?

Well last week I replaced my battery after 22,000 miles and was going to take my Azera back to get the hightlights checked out because they dim every now and then with the air and wippers are on. I have been watching to see if my lights dim after the battery was replaced last week and guess what. No dimming headlights. Maybe the dealer fixed the harness or something that holds the battery in place because the lights haven't dimmed in over a week.
I will continue to watch it but I think the problem has been solved. Now if I can just get rid of the clunk.

I have 25,750 mi. on my 06 Azera Ltd. and based on the fact that the car is in service just over 3 years I had a transmission flush (no filter change) at a cost of $240.00 at the dealer. Does this sound like it's in the ballpark? I have never had any problems with the transmission whatsoever.

Last year my wife bought a 07 Azera program car. Aside from the usual problems ,handling, cracked dash ect. no major problems. Well a month ago one of the low beams burnt out. She stopped at NAPA picked up 2 bulbs and they won't fit. Well OK she returned them and they couldn't find anything else that didn't have the same base. Same deal at auto zone. So she went to the dealer and after calling one after another, mechanic sales person ect. they were all clueless. They will find out what is going on and get back to us with lightbulbs. It has been over a month ..........nothing. She has been pulled over twice for driving with one headlight. Anybody have a clue what is going on?????

My 2006 Azera Limitted was at the dealer today as I have noticed the battery has been cranking slower the last few weeks. It has been getting colder at night in Ohio. I noticed this about a week ago. It was starting but it just didn't sound right, so I went to the dealer today.
The service guy said the battery was ok but when it gets colder it may die so he recommend me replacing the battery. It costs me $168.00 just past the 3 year warranty. That sucked then I informed him I am still having problems with the lights dimming when the heater is on or the air. He said they would give me a rental car free of charge and would keep my Azera for a week having one of the service guys driving it home at night to see if they could detect the problem. I guess that is procedure on these types of issues.
So in early November I will make a call to get a rental. I told him I wanted the Genesis as my ideal rent a car for the week. He said no problem. After looking at the Genesis and the Genesis Coupe in the dealer lot today it wouldn't take much for me to trade the Azera and get one of these. Gosh the Coupe is awesome. $33,000 for the Coupe loaded is a high price but I bet they would give me a good deal as nobody was around buying today. I want to see how the Genesis sedan drives and then I may make a move down the road.

Hi.
I have recently noticed that my Azera makes a "knocking" sound right after starting the engine.
It just about a dozen of fast short knocks one after another and it is gone after 2 seconds (like a diesel engine started on low temp. ;-))
It appears more often when the engine is rather cold.
Thanx for any advice.

We have an 08 Limited with the 3 Homelink Channel buttons on the rear view mirror. can anyone tell me if these buttons are supposed to be illuminated when the headlights are on? I can't find anything in the manual but when it's dark and we are wanting to press channel i to open our garage door; it's hard to find the button if it's nighttime. I was just wondering if ours should be lit but maybe it's malfunctioning.
If anyone notices whether their homelink buttons are lighted at night I'd appreciate knowing so i can take it in to the dealer and get it fixed.

I ask Azera owners the questions because The Sonata debuting in spring or summer price as 2011 will be considered a 4 cylinder only model with a estimated 200 or more hp. If the Azera is the only V6 FWD drive sedan would it help it boost sells?

Hello All:
Had the dealer replace both high beam bulbs on my 06 Azera. Now the high beams shine too close to the front of the car. Went to check the bulbs and there is a spring assembly holding the bulb in. How do you move this spring to get the bulb out, or do you have to take the screw out of the spring assembly. Had the car back to the dealer 3 times. Still the same.

Ok I have looked the site over and have a question. My 2009 Azera Limited has a ghost in it. Totally randomly the TPMS (letters) light just comes on and stays on just as randomly. I took it in and the tech said there were several self clearing codes but non specific. He asked me if I had a air freshener plugged in... I looked at him like he needed a drug testing. He went on to explain he had another customer who had one and every time he plugged it in the TPMS would light and when he unplugged it it would go away.
Nothing is plugged in or sometimes something is plugged in and it makes no difference! That light comes on whenever it wants and it is driving me batty!
Other than that we LOVE the Azera.
Any ideas from the techies?

Also whose stupid idea was it to make the DVD stop playing video when you start the engine? I can see it if you put it in gear but c'mon I had to start it to charge the battery and boy do the kids yell then!!!

Does anyone know the TSB number that describes being able to set programming so that when you remove the key from the ignition the driver's seat moves back and the sterring wheel up to make getting in and out easier? I want to get some programming done on my 08 Limited w/Ultimate pkg. and I want to have the TSB's when i go to the dealer. I have TSB06-90-007 which is the Auto Door Lock/Unlock but can't find one for the seat movement.

We just bought a 2008 Azera Limited 3.8L w/22,000 miles. It's been about 2,700 since the last oil change. It was done at the Hyundai dealer so I expect they used synthetic.
Historically I have ALWAYS changed my oil every 3,000 miles and I've always used castrol GTX dino oil NOT synthetic. Even on my 06 Silverado.
I guess I've felt it was cheap insurance to change every 3K. Is this a mindset I need to trash for the Azera?
I will find out when I read the owners manual tonite whether they recommend synthetic or dino.
What do you Azera owners use - dino or synthetic and how often do you change if you use synthetic. I guess gas mileage might be a little better with synthetic but I guess I still like the peace of mind changing every 3K but probably wouldn't do that using synthetic because of higher cost.
I'd appreciate any feedback you could offer.
thanks,
Mike in AL

Trying to figure out some things on the 2008 pre-owned Azera Limited we bought yesterday. Couple of questions i can't find in the manual or else I just missed it.
1. I know there is an auto setting on headlights to have them come on when activated by the dashboard low light sensor but is there a way to have them come on when the wipers are activated? OR do I just have to remember to turn them on when I turn on the wipers? I know the wipers have an auto setting that apparently senses the rain and activates the wipers but not sure whether it also activates the headlights.
2. I have the rear overhead light set on door so that when i open any door it comes on but that doesn't provide much light for the front seats. Is there any way to have the two front map lights come on as well when a door is opened?
Thanks Mike in AL

I'm new to this forum and I'm looking at buying a used 2007 Azera (Ltd. or SE - not sure yet which trim level subject car is yet as i haven't seen vehicle yet) with 16K from a local Hyundai dealer to replace my wife's 2001 Chrysler 300M that was totaled in an accident. The Azera seems like a very nice vehicle but i see enough posts on tire/road noise/suspension issues to make me a little nervous. Is this an issue only on 07's or certain 07's built before a certain date (what's the date and how would I know when the Azera I'm looking at was built?).
Any advice you can give me BEFORE the purchase would help. Also any feelings about what a good price for this car would be. I'm desiring to get it certified by Huyndai so i also get the 7 yr. 100,000 mile powertrain warranty as well.
Never owned a Hyundai before so any help or advice you can offer will be much appreciated. Just don't want to go in and find I've made a mistake.
They have a nice 09 Ltd with 7K but I think it's out of our price range but I might stretch to buy it if there was a huge difference in quality between the 07 and 09.

I have the factory Michelin SV8's (17s 255 whatever..) on my Azera and I can get little to no traction in the snow, especially while trying to stop. The ABS kicks in and makes horendous noise.
I know some have gone with 16" steelies and snow tires, Id rather get a good all-season. Ive driven many different vehicles in snow cars/jeeps FWD 2WD and 4WD and have never had such bad traction and have never needed snow tires.
Has anyone tryed going to a slightly narrower tire? And what all seasons have you found that perform well in the snow/ice?
thanks,
Ron

Has anyone else experienced intermittant resetting of their tripmeter?
This is one of my few gripes about my 2006 Azera, but it does irritate me.
In between gas fillups, occasionally my tripmeter has reset itself to 0.0 miles, AAARRGG!!!
None of the other settings on the scroll display were reset but the trip mileage.
It SEEMS to happen when I shut off the car and leave it on the trip-mileage setting (though usually I leave it on the MPG setting when I shut the car off, just to monitor my approximate driving economy).
I need to take it back into the dealer to see if they can fix it while its still under warranty. I had it in once for several items, but they didn't fix the tripmeter resets .... though the intermittant problems are the worst kind.
As a software developer myself, I know there's a bug in the firmware somewhere!!
Hopefully I'm not the ONLY one with this problem. Misery loves company!
Thanks,
Willis

Hi,
I was thinking about improving milage and power in my Azzy with out any mods of the engine (warranty issues and I'm not a car mechanic).
I heard about air filter replacement K&N. Is it any good?
Doe it really improve fuel consumption or is it just a commercial trick?
I found this one:
2007 HYUNDAI Azera 3.8L V6 F/I - All Automotive Air Filter 33-2346
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2346If it really works - how difficult is to replace air filter?

Hi guys.
I noticed some time ago that engine is making a sound like smth. is spinning very fast (gyrscope? mass wheel?) That happens when it is idle or drives slow, when I accelerate
the sound disappear. The sound is hearable inside and outside of the car.
Anyone knows what's it ?

Yesterday (Sunday 9/21) I took a trip from Ft. Worth to Austin, TX. It was 204 miles one way.
Here are the details:
Azera limited/Ultimate 3.8L with no luggage or anything to weigh it down except for my big a&& in the driver's seat.
Departed 5:30 a.m.
Reset all info just after gassing up and two blks from interstate.
Interstate all the way except for all about 3 miles of the trip.
Road was virtually traffic free with little or no wind and a very flat road all the way. No construction slow downs.
I was able to use cruise control for all but about three miles of the trip because there was no traffic to contend with. I kid you not when I say my foot didn't touch the accelerator from the time I got on the freeway in Ft. Worth until my exit in Austin (about 200 miles).
I set cruise control according to the speed limit which was mostly 70 mph except for a few stretches where it was 65 mph and one stretch at 55 mph. I used the buttons on the cruise control to slow down and accelerate when necessary.
I traveled 204.3 miles from start to finish.
I filled up again when I got off the exit and checked the mileage. It was 27.7 mpg give or take a few tenths. This was very close to the car's computer read out on the instrument cluster (27.6 mpg).
My question is, how the he!! are people getting 30-33 mpg in highway driving unless they are traveling 45-55 mph to do it.
BTW, I've been averaging 17.6 mpg in light city driving. This is up from 16.+ since I started using full synthetic oil.

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of installing an after-market double-din GPS head unit in my '07, and I figure I should be able to mimic what's currently being done on models with the navigation system. I checked out hmaservice.com for '08 and '09, and I wasn't able to determine where they install the GPS antennas (or maybe I'm not looking in the right place).
Do you guys know where a good location for the antenna could be? I'm hoping to "hide" it as best as possible.
Anyone with similar setups?
Thanks for the help,
Carl

After a lot of research and consideration over whether to get a new Azera Limited or an Accord EX V6 (I am driving a 1998 Accord now), I finally decided on the Azera. I just liked the Azera better every time I drove one. I alos liked that you do not see all that many Azeras on the road, while that it seems like every 5th car on the road is an Accord.
I struck the deal on Saturday over the phone with a dealer located about an hour away (he had by far the best price of all the dealers I dealt with), and he will be driving the car to my house tonight to do the paperwork. I got the Smokey Gray with the Ultimate package, and it has the Bluetooth, mats and wheel locks.
After reading all the complaints here about the suspension and other problems, I hoping I didn't make a mistake............ Is there anyone out there who actually likes there Azera?

Hello.
I am a newbie with a 3 day old 07 Azera Ltd/ultimate. I have put on a few miles in last 3 days and must say, I am very impressed with this vehicle. I sold my 1st gen Toyota Avalon and replaced it with my Azera. Azera looks smaller but parked next to old Avalon, it is actually wider and bigger. Only thing that is smaller than Avalon is the length of the hood. LOL. I already have learned a few things just by reading this forum. Thanks to all of you. I have two projects that I want to do right away.
1. replace the light bulb in the trunk with a super bright bulb. It is way too dark in there.
2. somehow find a way to connect my ipod- any try anything and every way not to go to FM modulator.
Thanks everyone.

I live in bahrain and I have a2007 azera with normal yellow lights .
the problem is most of the road lights are orange so i cant see the road very well.
I talked with the dealer garage and the response was they might fix it for me for 800 US dollar , then again they won't because they don not want to be responsible for any electrical problems.
so finally they said go to a company that fix xenon for cars and bring the name of the company for us and we will see if we agree or not .
i brought a company name and they agreed but when the company fixed xenon lights for me the first time although the lighting was great and i was happy with the work one of the regulators burnt and the lights went off . the second time they fixed a Bosch HID conversion Kit but there was different in lighting " one light was weaker than the other one " so finally i gave up and removed the kits .
today i was searching for xenon conversion kits because i am really tired from driving at night and i found the forum " i was reading in it before but i didn't register"
and i decided to register and seek your advise about what should I do
best regards

I have a XG300L and definitely like the car, I have had a lot of problems with it but it has mostly been covered by the warranty.
I have one year left on my warranty and thought I had better start looking around to see what can replace my XG.
Today I ran into a 2008 Azera limited with 19000 miles on it for $20,000......
Without my having to read through all the threads here, how does the Azera stack up... I have had my XG since 2001 and have had in the shop 16 times... A bit much for my thoughts and don't want to repeat that again....
So do the Azera's hold up well and I would assume that since the Azera replaced the XG's it is comparable in ever other way and maybe even plus a bit......
Thanks in advance for any input I receive....

So I noticed my Azera has a leak in the corner of the moonroof. I went to take a closer look with the roof open, where the water goes. I see there is a metal channel that goes somewhere in the roof of the car, but I'm not sure where it goes, and where the water eventually goes. Does anyone know if the channel exits the car somewhere, so water never gets in the actual car? I'm going to take it to get fixed, but not sure of the urgency. If the water is channeled out of the car somewhere then I can wait a week to get it fixed.
Also, is this a common issue?
Thanks all!

My air conditioner (from new) seems to work properly only when I'm driving over 50mph. On the interstate, for example, it's fine. Recently I had a passenger who really drew my attention to it. "What's wrong with your air conditioner. You should get it fix!"
It seems that, when I am stopped (as in stop-and-go traffic) or parked with the car running, the air conditioner blows warm air.
Is this normal for this car? It's a 2006 Azera. If not, is there an easy fix?
This happened from day 1, so I just thought it was normal. But I guess it's not.
I wanted to ask here, before I approached the dealer. I am due scheduled maintenance next week. I was going to bring it up then.
Thanks
Katz

If anyone can give me some advice I would appreciate it very much. I have a 2007 Azera, 30000 miles, Tires are Michelan and have about 15000 miles on them. The problem I am havning is that the rear tires are wearing terrible. The outside and inside threads are cupped and my mechanic says that they have all kind of flat spots on them also. The tires in the front are wearing great, no cupping or unusual wear. I did have a 4 wheel allignment on the car about 6 months ago. Had my car service last night by my mechanic and he says it is possible that the shocks are worn and that is what is causing the unusual wear on the tires. I am considering going back to my Hyundai dealer and having him check this out for me. Has anyone had this problem in the past? and if so, how did you handle it? If the shocks are worn is this a warranty issue? The noise from the tires is driving me crazy and i dont want to replace the tires and have the same thing happen again. At this rate ill be replacing tires more often since I cant rotate them , because the cupped tires on the front arent a good idea, according to my mechanic. Any comments or advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
I have an 06 Azera LTD with about 40k on it. Recently the passenger power seat stopped working. Only going forward, all other directions work. Now the seat is all the way back with no way to move it up. Any suggestions? Can't be a fuse, but maybe a loose connection?
Thanks for the help!

First post here. . . .really enjoy all of the information. I have an '07 limited that I bought with 11K miles. Great car and an even better value. No real problems except for the plastic covers under the car coming loose during a flood. I will replace soon.
I noticed yesterday that the seams around the passenger airbag (in the dash above the glovebox) are visible now. Its like the seams were fused together and have come apart. Is this covered under the warranty? Do they have to replace the entire dash cover. I have an extended warranty too, but only 31K , so the manufacturers warranty is still in effect
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I've searched the forum for a bit but could not find a similar issue as mine, but has anyone (maybe around 35000 miles) like me, experienced a creaking noise when you brake? The car typically does it after warming up, but every time I come to a complete stop, the rear of the car produces a creaking noise right before the braking completes. I brought it to Hyundai, they couldn't replicate it. So I took them for a drive myself, and was able to replicate it, however the technician had never heard or experienced this before. So far it's intermittent, but whenever it's more constant I'll bring it in again. Thanks for any info.

Well...the first MAJOR issue the azzy has had. My 9 month old car just got a crack in the dashboard. I took it in and my dealer is going to fix it under warranty but this means ripping out the whole dash assembly and replacing. Who knows how many clunks and rattles it will have now. Turns out it split where the airbag seam is.
This car has had its minor issues but this one takes the cake. I am seriously starting to second guess my decision to buy. I love the car, its beautiful, but it seems like a bunch of retarded monkeys put it together. I was stoked for the new Genesis to come out thinking i'll trade up when it does but maybe I'll just go reliable and go Lex. or Infinity.
