I've done some browsing on this site in the past, and noticed that someobody who got an exhaust and intake for his XG was getting like 37mpg highway??
My XG is my highway and travelling car. I take it on trips from NC back home in NY, so I'm trying to get every ounce of better gas mileage i can. This car fits my requirements for a travelling car, I just want to squeeze a bit better mpg's outta it.
I'm thinking 2.5" exhaust and some sort of custom cai, and 4 hi-flow cats? What kind of mufflers can I use to maintain the stock QUIET exhaust note?
What else has everybody done to optimize gas mileage? (I'm talking boltons etc, not driving method)

Hello every one.I have Hundyai XG2001 95000 miles. Last week my check engine light becomes on. When i checked the code it says P0720- O/p speed sensor. I checked with pepboys they says the out put speed sensor is fine, transmission fluidis balck so check with Amaco. i checked with them they says that O/p speed sensor is not able to reconize the speed becuase of some metal paricles in transmission and they have to rebuild my transmission, clean it & to check if any part of trasmission is damaged. It would cost me a lot. Can i do the transmission flush or Only changing the transmission fluid will reduce the problem? Is the transmission flush procedure will be safe for trany of my car.

The blower doesnt work, but it works just fine when connected direcltly to the accu.
But in the car the blower gets 10V only when fan speed is 4, but the fan still aint working... with speed 3 , 2 and 1 the voltage is 0V and of corse fan aint working.
Fuses are good.
So is it a relay or switch or what?

I notice that if I have cruise control set, and I come up to even the slightest hill, the car will do a downshift and just cruise at like 3-3.5k rpm's.. even after the hill diminishes and it's flat surface.
The car has decent power.. even in 5th in overdrive (at btw), but why such a hasty downshift??

The inside of the headlamps is staining and looking rather pooey.. how can that be cleaned? I can't seem to open up the headlamps w/out breaking things. And I'd rather not take the whole assembly out and mess up the alignment of the lights.
Any ideas?

Car: 1999 Hyundai Grandeur XG
Problem: Transmission gets stuck in 3rd gear.
Explanation:
I will be driving along in 5th gear when suddenly BAM i get a huge jerk and my car is RPM'n at 4K and im now stuck in 3rd gear. I can use my tip-tronic to get down to 2nd gear but thats it. My only option is to avoid an accident when ever it happens and pull over, turn my car off.
Now usually i can start it again and be able to drive normally but sometimes it goes straight back to 3rd and sometimes it will even be stuck in 1st and I have to wait until it stuffs up again so i can drive in 3rd gear!!!!!!
I have replaced the input sensor and the output was done 2 years ago.
I took it to hyundai and they got these error codes:
Crankshaft POS Sensor P0335
Variable Induction System P1159
ETS Limphome Mode Valve On P1191
ETS Limphome Low ROM P1193
Now as the car didnt falter when i took it to get the codes read the guy said he could not find any transmission error codes. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do?

I was wondering how much performance difference would putting 4 new hi-flow cats on the XG make.
I'm thinking it will be a large difference, since the stock ones are always really restrictive, and since there is 4... should be a big improvement right?
Thanks all

I bought a used 2002 XG350 and it came with a single key and no key fob. If I picked up a keyfob online and programmed it or had it programmed, would it be able to work with my car? Thanks,

My needs a few items to get it into order. The check engine light came on and threw a DTC code P0350 - "Ignition coil primary/secondary circuit malfunction."
It looks like there are three coils, each driving two cylinders. I do not get DTC codes indicating misfires on any cyls. If I did I suppose I could just swap coils around to ID the bad one.
Any hints on where to start with this one? The engine is running a little rough, but only to the degree that I would think maybe one or two cyls was missing.
Thanks,

Went to start my '04 GX350L after filling the tank up from a day of driving and there was NO power - no lights, no radio, no nothing! I popped the hood to check battery (both cables are tight, very tight) and then the car started up no problem. All the presets went back to factory defaults and the radio had to be reprogamed. I was able to start and drive the car no problem for a couple days, then the same thing happened!?
Any ideas how the car can be completely dead and then fire up? I am going to replace the battery and hope that solves the problem, but wonder if anyone has had the a similar issue and what the solution was.
Thanks!

Alright so on my way home i blew my amplifier fuse for my subs and now when i stop at a light the engine speed drops than goes up to about 1500 rpm than down than back up and eventually stalls. I can do the left on brakes, right on gas but that sucks.
The weird thing is, when its cold and i start it, it will be fine. Put it into gear without moving, good. Let off the brakes and crawl, good. Drive for twenty feet than stop, not good.
I looked around and the only thing i can find that may be a problem would be the idle air valve. I heard you can clean it, but im not positive where its located. I was also wondering if it would do anything if i disconnected it.

The XG350 has what looks like a rear tow hook connected to the gas tank?
Does anyone know the purpose for this? I want to tow a small car for a couple miles and was wondering if I could just hook a tow rope to that hook on the rear. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Mike

(1) I have an intermittent problem with my remote locking on a 2000 Grandeur XG. The problem is that occaisionally when I press the remote, the doors lock but the lights do not flash and I suspect that the immobiliser does not arm. I have 2 remotes, I have replaced the batteries in both but both will give the same problem.
I suspect that I have a dirty connection or a dry joint somewhere on the receiver unit. I would clean the connections and check any joints I could, If I knew where it was.
Please can anyone tell me where it is and how to get at it?
(2) The Grandeur XG is fitted with a 'pollen Filter' on the air conditioner. My vehicle is now eight years old and I do not believe this has ever been cleaned.
I believe the filter is located behind the glove box but I am unable to remove the glove box to get at it.
Has any body seviced this item? Is it necessary to service this item?
If so... how do I get at it?
Many thanks for any replies.

Vehicle : 1999 Hyundai Grandeur (XG) 3.0L V6 engine
There is three devices(one per spark plug) that sit above the spark plugs on the front bank of cylinders.
There seems to be a part number c98-27300 on them, the number may be incomplete due to all three stickers showing signs of wear.
Can anyone help me identify what they are ? Will call up Hyundai spare parts in Australia tomorrow, just wondering if anyone knows what it is.
Thanks everyone, I'll also get a photo up soon.

There seems to be something wrong with the auto mode- or lights.
In the auto mode I remember the parking lights used to go on with the head lamps.
Now only parking lights (5W) go on. Headlights go on when it goes dark outside.
The headlights should be on all the time , correct?
Also the clock lighting seem to work half good. Is it related with the headlamp problem?

Hi all.. I'm about to undertake doing a brake job on my mother-in-law's '02 XG350. I've done brakes before on my US made cars, but this will be my first one on a foreign car. I'm expecting it to be uneventful, but nevertheless, I thought I'd stop by here first.
Her car has the classic brake pedal and steering wheel vibration when braking indicative of a warped rotor. My late father-in-law had the rear brakes done before he passed away last year. The car has 32K mi on it and I thought it very odd that the rears were the ones that needed to be done first but hey, I wasn't asked about it as it wasn't my car or decision.
So, I'm just going to R/R the rotors and pads and be done with it. My question is: Are there any "gotchas" waiting for me on this job / car? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
TIA - Steve

hi.
just bought a '99 XG off a dodgy albanian in sydney.
drove it back and noticed the lcd of the climate control system wasn't lit. came back on when i turned the headlights off. turning headlights on and off - other dash lights/lcd's would also dim a little when h/lights switched on. later, tcs and abs lights came on for around 3 hours. then off.
one day later, speedo went to 85 kmph independent of the speed i was actually doing. returned to normal after 5 mins. later, 85 kmph at faster speeds, 40 kmph at slower speeds. disappeared again after 5 mins.
no other problems.
mentioned it to my local hyundai service dept. they seemed to think it could be the footbrake switch.
is this the alternator or footbrake switch or something else?
many thanks.

I've seen an XG30 (2000 W reg). Is there anything I should be looking out for/checking when buying one?
Is there a Haynes manual or equivalent for this model? (or is it similar to another model)

I am thinking about buying a 2001 XG300L from a private party here in Ohio, USA. I spoke to him for about 30 minutes tonight. He told me that he has had it for 3 years. 3 weeks after he bought it, he had to replace the motor and the transmission. Both have 60,000 miles on them. Since then, he says there were no problems until last November when he had the alternator replaced. (I didnt think twice about it until I read some of the posts from 2007 <YIKES!>)
Anyways, the car drives very nice, the interior is in very good condition and, overall, it would be the nicest car I have ever purchased from a private party.
I didnt take it on the freeway during the test drive, so I dont know if it has the "frightening jerk" problem or not. Just the thought of it scares me! I drive to and from Indiana with my 17 month old daughter twice a month and a jerk like that is liable to cause an accident. Can anyone tell me how common this problem is and how much it would cost to fix it if it happened?
I would appreciate any input anyone can give on this car, it's pro's and cons and it's safety (safety is most important). Are there any recalls on anything? If so, will a dealership fix them for free?
Also, can anyone give me an average gas mileage?
Thanks in advance!

Hi. I replaced the filter and pump on my xg but it won't start now. When I turn the car over some fuel comes out where the fuel line plugs into the top of the pump assy, but it's not much. Any ideas why my xg might not be pumping?
Thanks, Mike

Hey Guys,
I have a 2001 XG thats done 132,000 km, About a week ago it started to play up.
Its like the engine is missing when driving and even idling. I took it to the service center in Wollongong NSW (im on the south coast of NSW) and had them service it and asked them to look at it but after the service the problem was still there.... the service tech said they put it on the computer and it showed all cylinders were not firing correctly but he said he could not work out why! he then went onto say that XG's are incredibility hard to diagnose.
Has anyone out there had this problem ??? does anyone have any advice for me??? maybe you know if a great service center for this model car.

Hi i have just installed an alpine stereo and it seems to be working fine, however i hear alot of static interference.(In all modes tuner/cd/ipod) i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? also does anyone have a schematic as to what all the wires that plug into the factory head unit do? i was also wondering if i need to install a noise canceling filter and i believe the interference is coming from the alternator?
Any thoughts/ suggestions welcome.

Hi Everyone
Well my mechanic had a look at my grandeur and it looks like it is going to cost to much to fix, so i am scrapping it. Apparently there is a fault in the oil pump so it looks the car has got to go.
The car has unmarked leather seats and also the engine has only done 103 ks. Also there is a new battery i bought yesterday.
Call me on 0422 161 902 or email for whatever parts you need.

I saw a post here that replacing power steering hose (high pressure) is not that bad to replace. Did anyone else try this? If so, do you have some steps? I'm pretty good with wrench and do most of the work on the car at home. However, the hose seems to be in a real tight spot and I wasn't sure if I can get my hands in there.
Does anyone have experience replacing one of these and if so, any advice and steps? Or should I just take it to a dealer?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all i have recently come across 2 powerchip modules which can supposedly be fitted to a grandeur. One is the "Juice Box HY3455" and the other is the "Chronic Power Chip Fuel Module". I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these or similar products?
They both offer averages of +25HP for a cheap price. And to me this is very attractive. But i dont want to dive in without some advice.
Cheers.

Hello All-
I purchased a XG350 new in 2002, which until recently has been rock-solid reliable.
First, I replaced the original battery in December. In February, acid leaked out the top of the battery, making quite a mess. A faulty voltage regulator was supposedly to blame, so we replaced the battery and installed an after-market alternator.
Now, 2 months later, a yellow check engine light. We pulled the codes, which read P1191 P1193 P0705. I'm guessing P0705 indicates a "Trans Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction", with the sensor being located under the battery.
I'm getting conflicting information about P1191 and P1193 -- any ideas?
Also, could the after-market alternator cause damage the these electrical components?
Trying to gather information before going to the dealer ($$), any guidance would be much appreciated...
