just wondering what some of your experiences are with servicing your car at the authorized dealer or local repair shop. Is there a big difference in pricing, products, and methods in such things as transmission fluid, coolant flushes, etc.?

Hi everyone. I recently saw a picture of a Korean market 2006 Grandeur/Azera and the grille featured vertical chrome bars and not the horizontal ones in all the other pics. Trouble is I can't remember where I saw it. Does anyone have a clue.
By the way my XG with its 18 inch alloys and dark glass is the bomb and creates attention wherever I go as most people don't know what it is. I would deffinately consider a new model if it came to the UK.
Best wishes MARTINES

Is there any benefit in using 98 octane petrol such as Shell Optimax, BP Ultimate or Caltex Vortex in Grandeur? Some car ECUs can sense and adapt to this petrol with resulting increase in power and fuel economy. Can Grandeur do this or it is a waste of money?

My wife just got new 04 [COLOR=blue][COLOR=blue]XG350L , she was used to the Bose sound system in her Caddy and is now dissapointed with the Infinity. Does anyone know a good way to improve this system economicly? Wife loves everything about the XG350 except the sound!
Does any one know where the external Amp is located?

This last week my wife's '01 XG started acting up with the charging light going on for a few miles then off. Next the Brake light came on for a while, then went off. The next day the TCS light came on and stayed on for a good 20 miles and went off when my wife shut the car off at work. Next the ABS light came on and stayed on for a few miles. The check engine light never came on, nor were there any brake problems. A couple nights later my wife called me at home and said the low beams weren't working!

Since we live in Alaska, it's dark a good portion of the time so working headlights are a must! I had just replaced a low beam not more then two weeks ago and when I checked out both low beams, they were burnt out. To make things even more weird, we have a XG with the Stereo that doesn't work worth 2 cents. It has a mind of it's own, it will turn on and off by its self, play a CD by its self, Eject by its self, weak AM Radio. By since this Gremlin has shown up, the Stereo has worked great for over a week now.

Can anybody offer me any advice? We only have 49,000 miles on the car, but I'm sure that does mean much. Thanks for any help, Happy Holidays!

I pulled my car into the garage but didn;t pull the car in far enough. WHen closing the garage door it hit the back bumper scratching the paint off the surface then scratching halfway down to the bottom of the bumper. The bumper wasn't gouged out but i have scratches. I don't think touchup paint will work since the scratches are too long. Have any fellow XG owners suffered through this?

I've tried Les Schwab and Cosco and neither place knows how to get a new battery. Can anyone help? Is my local dealer the only source for a replacement battery?javascript:emoticon('')

I recently purchased a replacement remote keyless transmitter on Ebay. The transmitter came with a set of programming instructions, which call for accessing the alarm system control module. The module has a switch that needs to be repositioned during the programming of the transmitter(s). I am having a devil of a time finding the location or identifying the alarm system control module. The shop illustrations that came with the tranmitter just don't match what I'm seeing inside the car. All efforts to find this module have been on the driver's side - above the brake pedal area and side kick panel. I have even removed the driver's side lower dash facia (everthing below the speedometer) - found what looked like a 4" long (black color) flexible antenna with a coax - but no module. The antenna leads to "somewhere" unknown. To make things more frustrating, access to www.hmaservice.com\webtech is now password protected - so I have not been able to look into the Hyundai web site for clues. This module must be somewhere convenient - but it beats me where. Any clues?

Hello
This is a quite suprising and intresting problem , that i havent been seeing before , hoping you have time to read it:
with half-cold or cold motor everyhing is ok , when the motor gets warmer the TCS light starts blinking as the motor dont work constantly on the smooth ride , this is the first part of the problem i think the secont part is related ..when i turn off TCS the ride is smooth but on the sudden gear change with throttle means heavy rumbling and vibrating of car , every time this rumbling ends im glad that my precious hyundai is still moving , not LEGO parts on the road
Can you please tell me what is the problem ?

Has anybody replaced the radio in an XG? I found a company that makes an adapter that fits in the place where the radio is now and has an opening for a standard Din1 radio. I have heard that putting a new radio in will not fix the problem because it's the in glass antenna that is the problem. Would appreciate any input on this issue.

So the whole left underside of my car is coated with a clear oil, the side of the front header and the frame is dripping.
it's burning and smells like plastic.
I go to hyundai dealer for some emergency service, and after two days they tell me that the system was low.
What type of lubricate is in our system so I can at least know I'm being lied to as they 'give' it to me?
Is it clear and smells like burning plastic when it smokes?
Can my 2001 XG300 a/c system lose gas and oil and suddenly be fixed by a recharge?

My wife will be driving "new to her an" '01 XG 300L for the first time this winter up here in Alaska. To save time and money at the beginning and end of each season, with mounting and balancing tires, I wanted to find a plain set of steel wheels to leave the winter tires on. So far all tire dealers I've spoken with "state a plain steel wheel is definitely unavailable."

Does anybody know if perhaps another car might interchange with the 15" XG300? I know the Kia line is supposed to be the sister company of Hyundai, but I'm sure that would be too easy of a thing to match up. I find it hard to believe that a plain steel wheel is not available some place. I even tried the wrecking yards in hopes of finding a set of factory wheels from a wreck. Does anybody have any ideas? Thank you!

Hi !
My english is very boor, but i'll try to express myself correctly.

Well, I have a problem with my XG25. The alarmsystem doesnt work correctly. I think the problem is with the horn what needs to make the noise. Atleast everything else seems to be OK with the system, but it doesn't make any noise at all
This is just an Example: The alarm is on, and i hold the sensor of the bonnet down and i simply remove the main battery of the car? It should start to make a very very disturbing noise but nothing.......... And every other occasion it doesnt make noise either... Turning alarm on/of etc. But central locking system works....
Could anyone help me please? Where is the location of the alarmsystem?
Again, sry about my enlish and i hope you understand my

Thanks

when driving and the radio is playing lately when you change to CD or back to radio the fuse which controls the trip computer, aircon controls, central locking, and radio/CD BLOWS. The interior light then comes on until the fuse is changed. This does not always happen but it is causing some concern as the dealer doew not seem to have any idea. Does anyone have any Idea.

Wow! I am thankful to find this website! I am a VERY excited new owner of a '05 XG250L, and my husband just got the '06 Sonata. We are all grins so far, although I had the dealership relplace my new car with another after discovering bubbles on the dash. They had the rep in from California, and after some discussion, they wanted to "make me happy because we bought 2 cars" and replaced it. We just dumped our Ford Explorer and are thrilled with our purchase.

l have today changed the auto. trans. oil for the first time in one of my XG's it has 40,000 on the clock which is below the recommended oil change by hyundai.
l was amazed just how dirty the oil was and was glad that l had not left it until the recomended interval.
the point l am making is that there have been quite a few reports on this forum in the past of problems with auto. gearboxes. thease problems are very often caused by dirt and xxxx floating around in the oilways so therefore it is very important that you guys out there get their auto oil changed at regular intervals to avoid something nasty in the future. after my experience today l would certainly not leave it longer than 40,000 miles in spite of what the boffins at hyundai may say, and make sure you use the genuine SP111 oil

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anybody had used an online parts supplier in Korea, called
Carparts.co.kr?
Having a new quote for a Mass Airflow Sensor here in Australia of $1300, I've found an OEM part as above priced at US$210.
Quite a difference.
But I would like to know if anyone has used them and are they reliable and honest before giving card details or sending money.
Any takers?
I hope they're OK,as their parts are dirt cheap!
Cheers,
Engel.

OK,
Hi to all,
How does one go about removing the belt that runs the alternator and A/C compressor? On my Tbird, I can just rotate the tensionor up and off the belt and this will allow enough slack to slid it off. Is there some type of bolt that keeps tensions/pressure on a pulley so the belt can not get slack that can be backed off and allow the pulley to be moved off the belt?
TIA

I bought a new XG350L last week. Great car, except for this:
After 40 minutes or so on the road, when parked or in the garage, the front end of the car, the grill area, the area in front of and over the wheel wells, the entire hood, including the top of the dash!!!! is so hot that it will burn you if you put your hand on it for more than just an instant.
The temp gauge always shows under half, but the heat coming out of that engine compartment and into the sheet metal is hotter than any car I've ever driven, even when one overheated. (Not quite that hot on dash, but it's there.)
I don't think this is right, not only because the heat will break down things under the hood, but also because someone walking past the car in a parking lot, etc, could get a painful burn under the right circumstances.
Is this kind of heat a normal thing?

Hi all,
The Grandeur (2000 3.0 24V V6) is back into the Hyundai dealer again for rough running and no power under load.
They say it may be the mass airflow sensor. At a guess.
If this is the case, how much can I buy one from the U.S. for? (Or elsewhere)
They've quoted me $900 for the part!
Anyone know?
Cheers,
Engel.

[SIZE=7]My newspaper this morning carried a small article about US gas changing to 10% methanol in 2006, and 85% of stations will carry nothing but the mixture.
The owner's manual for my 2005 XG350L gives the advice NOT to use the methanol mixture, as engine problems might develop.
I suppose, if necessary, I can purchase gas at one of the 15% stations that will continue to pump straight gas. I feel backstabbed that the Hyundai folks never mentioned this (I understand why they wouldn't) when I was buying the car. Am I obsolete in one year?
I don't know why this advice should apply only to the XG350, so perhaps this is something we all need to know about.
So, like, what's up wit' this?

Here it is a month later and it's plugged again.
Any suggestions????????

I am a novice in car maintenance but would like to get your guys imput on the top do-it-yourself jobs on the Hyundai XG 300 '01 with 60,000 miles on it. I dont want to do anything too complicated but i would like to save some money. I am getting the feel that the fuel filter might be an easy project, and that the spark plugs may be a little tough. The timing belt seems to be over my head. What about flushing the coolant? Thanks.

I have a 2001 Grandeur XG and the handbrake and battery dash warning lights appear when first starting the car. After a short driving time of around 15 minutes the lights would turn off. Other than this warning the car would drive normally, without any problems.
I took the car in for a service to the local Hyundai Service Centre and reported this fault. Apparently there was fault with the alterator not charging or putting out the require current.
The alternator was reconditioned and warning lights no longer appear. However immediately after receiving the car back we now have some type of "timing" problems with the cars performance.
When idling or in park or gear the car goes through an intermitent cycle of 4-5 thuds or like spark misses which can be felt through the car, more evident through the stearing and peddles, as if like the car wants to stall but doesn't. This occurs even whilst driving the car, more felt around 30-40 Km/h and very noticiable when driving at this speed up an incline.
I reported the problem immediately with the Service Centre. They are claiming that the problem is stemming from faulty spark plug leads or possibly contaminated fuel through the fuel lines-injectors: I can't possibly believe that this could be the case given the fact that the car was running perfectly before the alternaor was worked on.
I have since been in contact with the Service Centre and have booked the car in to checked out. I will know more after the 3 Aug. 2005.
Can any one help me!

Hi all we have a 1999 Grandeur and sadly we have had many problems with it, some small and others quiet big ... the 1st 1 being that one side of the car was longer then the other side, upon finding out this we took it to our dealer and it was rectified promptly as were all the other problems, as I write it is again back in the workshop for a suspected computer problem which could cost us a cool $2,800. not bad eh!!! I have talked to Hyundai and they have happily agreeded to check out the problem and we may come to an arrangement, I can't complain about the integrity of Hyundai but the CAR really makes me sad . Just 3 weeks ago we had the airflow metre (I think that's what it's called) which was just $600 fitted ...wow can anything else go wrong please get back to me and tell me of your experiences
I look forward to your responses ... bye for now

Hi all,
I have finally taken delivery of the 2000 Grandeur 3.0 I viewed a few weeks ago.
It's immaculate throughout. Everything works. 164,000km on the clock.
One problem: The engine badly lacks power.
I test drove another identical car a few weeks ago and it had great acceleration. Mine wouldn't pull the legs off a mosquito!
I can flatten the pedal either from standing start or while cruising, and even though it does change down a gear or two, the acceleration is almost non-existant. Dreadful coming up hills. Almost like "limp home" mode.
The engine starts and runs smoothly, although when starting it seems to idle slightly too fast for a few seconds and then gradually settle down. The previous owner seemed very trustworthy and straightforward, and he said that from cold, the engine always seemed to run a bit hesitantly for a while until it warmed up.
However, driving, shows up how poor the acceleration is. It's almost as if the ECU is limiting the power output of the motor. It revs up to about 5000 RPM if I hold it in gear, but despite that, it has no get up & go.
Any clues? Is there a diagnostic test I can do? The car also has a professionally fitted aftermarket cruise control, possibly fitted by original Hyundai dealer. I would assume that after 164,000 km if this were the problem it would have been sorted by now.
Help!
Engel.

I have a 2002 XG that developed a slight (one of those aggravating ones) steering wheel shimmy at about 70 mph just before changing my first set of tires. I purchased a set of Goodyears and had them rotated and changed out 4 different times because they could not get the shimmy out of the tires. I then replaced the tires with Continentals only to have the same shimmy only so slight now at about the same speed.
I have read that some of the foreign cars are balanced to tighter specifications than american. Specifically balancing to one gram rather than 5 grams.
Does anyone know if this is the case with the XG or Hyundai? If not should I be looking at some other area or.......... do I seek a specialist?
Appreciate the feedback!
